固定搭配believe in,意为“信任;信奉”;介词at、to不能和believe搭配表达该含义。

固定搭配agree with,意为“同意;赞同”;agree off、agree for不属于固定短语。
Being,“Being true to oneself”与“allowing others to be themselves”是并列关系,形式一致;Be是动词原形,Been是过去分词,均不能直接作主语。

Once upon a time, there was a king who lost his leg and eye during a war. Even with these challenges, his cleverness and kindness made him a great king in his country.
One day, the king saw the pictures of his ancestors (祖先) on the walls. Thinking that one day his children would admire his picture as well, he really wanted to have it painted well.
However, he wasn’t sure what his painting would be like because of his leg and eye. So, he invited a group of famous painters to the palace (王宫), offering a lot of money to the artist who could create a beautiful picture of him.
All the painters began to wonder how to paint the king. They soon decided that it was an impossible thing, being that if the king was not satisfied with their pictures, they would get punished. So, one by one, they started making excuses and refused politely.
Then, one painter named Tom said that he wanted to have a try. The king agreed. Tom started drawing and coloring the picture carefully in a quiet room. After some time, he finally finished it!
All the other painters in the palace couldn’t wait to see what it would look like. When Tom showed the picture, everyone, including the king, was amazed.
Tom made a picture in which the king was sitting on a horse, showing the one-leg side, holding his bow (弓) and aiming the arrow (箭) with his one eye closed. The king was very happy to see this beautiful picture and gave Tom a lot of money as he promised.

One Christmas Eve, old Scrooge and Bob were working busily in his office. The houses were covered with snow. The weather was cold. It was only three o’clock in the afternoon, but it was already quite dark.
“Merry Christmas, Uncle!” said a happy voice. It was Scrooge’s nephew.

Bob, standing in the corner of the room, applauded (鼓掌). He realized his mistake very soon, and went quickly back to his work, but Scrooge had heard him.
“One more sound from you, Bob,” said Scrooge. “And you’ll celebrate Christmas by losing your job!”
“Don’t be angry with him, Uncle. Come and have dinner with us tomorrow.”
“No,” said Scrooge.
“I’m sorry you don’t want to celebrate Christmas. But I do. So a Merry Christmas, Uncle!”
“Good afternoon!” said Scrooge.

B. I like inventing small things, too.
C. How many inventions did it mention?
D. When is it?
E. Some inventions are useful.
F. How do you celebrate it?
G. Can you tell me how it got started?
D 41. G 42. A 43. F 44. B
D项“When is it?”
根据A的回答“Of course. There have been a lot of inventors in history.” G项“Can you tell me how it got started?”
根据A的回应“But you made a mistake. It was Ronald Reagan...who named the date.” A项“You’re very clever.”
根据A的回答“Students show their own inventions.” F项“How do you celebrate it?”
根据B的后一句“Can I show them at your school?” B项“I like inventing small things, too.”

“Stupid!” said Scrooge.
“Christmas is stupid? Surely you don’t mean that, Uncle,” said his nephew.
“I do,” said Scrooge. “Merry Christmas. But why do you feel happy? You’re poor.”
“OK. Then,” replied the nephew. “Why are you unhappy? You are so rich,” said his nephew.
“I live in a world of fools! Merry Christmas! What does Christmas mean to you? It’s a time for expenditure. Shopping, shopping, shopping, people spend a lot of money buying so many unnecessary things! It’s also a time to find yourself a year older, but not richer. Everyone saying ‘Merry Christmas’ should get his tongue (舌头) cut out!”
“Uncle! Please don’t say that,” said the nephew, “I’ve always thought of Christmas time as a good time, a kind, and a happy time. And so, Uncle, Christmas has never brought me any gold, but I think it has done me good. And it will do me good. And I say, God bless it!”
Bob, standing in the corner of the room, applauded (鼓掌). He realized his mistake very soon, and went quickly back to his work, but Scrooge had heard him.
“One more sound from you, Bob,” said Scrooge. “And you’ll celebrate Christmas by losing your job!”
