How do you feel about your looks? Is it important to have a beautiful face? Are there other things that can make a person special? The way you look is special. Do you know what I mean by that? We all look a little different. Some of us are tall. Some of us are fat. The point is, all of us have our own look—our own face.
Sometimes, we might feel bad about looking different. We might feel like we look ugly or strange. But our differences are what make us special.
I recently watched a speech by a man named Robert Hoge. He was born with a strange-looking face. His mother always worried that he would face many difficulties in life. But what Hoge did changed his mother’s mind little by little. Strangers would stare (盯着) at him or even make fun of him. But he didn't care at all. He decided to accept his face and feel confident (自信的) in himself. He has made a decision to live an amazing life.
It’s hard when you feel like you don’t look “normal” or “perfect”. But the truth is that no one is perfect. The important thing to remember is that you are special, no matter what you look like.
16. According to the writer, all of us look a little different.
17. The writer recently watched a speech by Robert Hoge’s mother.
18. Hoge’s mother used to worry that he would face many difficulties in life.
19. When strangers made fun of him, Hoge lost his confidence.
20. The writer tries to tell us that we are special no matter what we look like.

Dear future (未来的) Linda (or rather myself),
I hope when you read this letter, you don’t find my writing too messy! At the moment, I’m 15 years old and living at home with my family. I love school and have lots of good friends. We have a lot of fun together. My biggest worry is not doing well in my school exams, but I’m working really hard, so hopefully I have nothing to worry about.
There’s so much I (you!) want to do. I hope you’ve travelled all over the world and seen lots of things and met lots of people. I hope you’ve visited the Great Wall in China and the pyramids in Egypt, shopped in New York City and in Paris, seen the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. I’ve just remembered that you always wanted to see elephants in India—I hope you’ve managed to do that, too.
I promise myself I’ll always try my best and have no regrets. I never want to forget where every step of my life has taken me. Already it seems as if so much has happened. I’ve moved from primary to junior high (about to graduate), been taught to swim and dance, learned to speak Chinese and French, and raised money for those in need by selling old toys and books.
I really hope you’re happy. I hope you have an interesting job that you enjoy doing and look forward to each morning when you wake up. I hope you get on well with good friends and family and maybe also have a family of your own. More than anything else, I hope you’ve enjoyed every single moment so far!

Once upon a time, there was a grasshopper who didn’t like to work. He spent his time singing and playing music all day long. One lovely spring day, the grasshopper was singing his favorite song with a guitar in his hands, when a little ant passed by.
“Little ant, why don’t you come and sing along to my songs?” The grasshopper asked. “I must prepare for the winter, and so should you,” replied the ant.
The grasshopper laughed. That sounded like too much work and quite boring. Besides, winter was such a long way away and he had plenty to eat at the moment. Summer and autumn came and went, and the grasshopper continued to laze about while the ant was busy working day and night. The ant reminded him to prepare for the winter but he turned a deaf ear.
But winter came earlier than usual that year and the grasshopper became worried because he hadn’t made any preparations. He saw the ant was happy in his warm house with his food. But he was cold and running out of food. Nor did he have a place to live in. “The little ant was right!” he thought sadly. “I must not be so silly next year. I should have prepared earlier.” Luckily, the ant was glad to share food with him, but the grasshopper learned how important it is to work hard and be prepared.

Since its birth in 1953, the Xinhua Dictionary has been used as an encyclopedia (百科全书) by people across China. More than 600 million copies have been sold.
When the dictionary was first published, the name Xinhua meant the hope of a country reborn (重生). In 1949, about 80 percent of China’s population was illiterate (文盲). However, Xinhua Dictionary succeeded in opening up knowledge to millions of Chinese people. “I had no education when I was little. The dictionary helped me get into high school,” said a woman in her 50s.
Over the past 50 years, the dictionary has been corrected many times. “鲟” was once explained as “suitable to be eaten”. Later dictionaries made it clear that it was “an animal in danger”. Recent dictionaries have included many new words. Popular expressions like “初心” and “点赞” have also been added to the dictionary.
In a way, Xinhua Dictionary has not only explained words, but also shaped the way Chinese people think. “When children write about a spring trip, they describe the sky as ‘cloudless for ten thousand miles’ and they ‘sing and dance’ on the way,” read a 2010 report. “Both sentences are based on examples in the Xinhua Dictionary.”
30. What is the main function (功能) of the Xinhua Dictionary for many people in China?
A. A textbook for schools. B. A guide book for travelers.
C. An encyclopedia (百科全书) for daily use. D. A tool for language learners only.
31. How long is the history of Xinhua Dictionary?
A. 50 years. B. 53 years. C. 73 years. D. 83 years.
32. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. What is in new Xinhua Dictionary.
B. How Xinhua Dictionary keeps up with the times (与时俱进).
C. Why Xinhua Dictionary has been corrected many times.
D. When some new expressions were put into Xinhua Dictionary.
33. What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To show the effect (影响) of Xinhua Dictionary on Chinese people’s thinking.
B. To tell us Xinhua Dictionary controls primary school articles.
C. To explain the two sentences that are used most in China.
D. To prove (证明) Chinese people prefer to copy each other’s articles.

Adras Silk: A Precious Craft with a Long History
Have you ever heard of Adras Silk (艾德莱斯绸)? It’s a famous traditional textile (纺织品) from Xinjiang, China, with a centuries-old history. It began on the ancient Silk Road (丝绸之路) and has been passed down by Uyghur artisans (维吾尔族工匠) for generations. This beautiful fabric (织物) is more than just cloth—it’s a symbol of Xinjiang’s rich culture and local people’s wisdom.
Making Adras Silk is all done by hand, through simple yet careful steps. First, craftspeople (手艺人) prepare high-quality silk, cleaning it to make it soft and ready for dyeing (染色). Then, they tie parts of the silk yarns (丝线) with cotton threads (棉线). These tied sections won’t absorb dye, creating natural patterns like clouds or waves. Next, the yarns are dyed with colorful plant or mineral dyes, often multiple times for bright, lively hues. After dyeing, the cotton threads are cut, and the yarns are woven into cloth on traditional looms. Finally, the cloth is washed and dried to lock the colors in.
Every piece of Adras Silk is unique, as no two handmade works are the same. It’s a wonderful blend of tradition and art, cherished for its beauty and special cultural meaning. It’s truly a magical mix of old traditions and beauty!

How I solved a relationship problem
Today, I’d like to share my own experience of solving a relationship problem.
Last week, I argued with my best friend because of a misunderstanding. I thought he said bads words about me. I felt very sad and ashamed because I valued our friendship. And at that time, I was angry with him and shouted at him. Then he thought I was crazy and didn’t talk to me. To solve it, I decided to say sorry to him first bravely. Then we talked openly about our feelings. Finally, we made up.
From this, I learned that communication is key to friendship. We should understand others more.
