Have you ever felt like you’re not sure how you’re feeling? Or maybe you’ve tried to tell someone your feelings, but they are hard to put into words? Well, there’s an app for that!
Feel Now is a free app that you can use on your mobile phone. It helps teenagers think about and understand their feelings. It was designed by two 17-year-olds, Taara Verma and Siena Pradhan, from the US.
Each day, Feel Now sends a reminder to users to record a feeling. The users pick one from six feelings: happy, peaceful, angry, sad, disgusted (厌恶的) and scared. Then the app breaks down each one into 10 more feelings. For example, “scared” can be broken down into “worried” and nine other feelings. You can also describe how strongly you’re feeling “slightly (轻微地)”, “moderately (一般地)” or “highly”.
Vibha Kurdikar is a doctor. She said teenagers are often not aware of their feelings. Kids nowadays are under a lot of stress,” Kurdikar said. “But sometimes they don’t realize something is stressful until it’s too late.” Feel Now helps them notice how they are feeling.
Aditi Jha, 14, has been using Feel Now for months. When she stops to examine her feelings, she sometimes notices a feeling she didn’t know about. She might realize that she’s worrying about a test. And then she can do something to make herself feel better.
Feel Now could be more useful if it works with apps that record exercise or sleep. But Taara and Siena think that just recognizing (辨别出) and recording one’s feelings is valuable on its own. “The simpler it is, I think, the more people will use it,” Taara said.
46. What do we know about Feel Now from Paragraph 2?

48. What does the underlined part “aware of” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. 倾诉 B. 释放 C. 意识到 D. 担心
49. What might Aditi Jha think of Feel Now?

When Goldie Nejat began developing robots in 2005, she spent much of her time knocking on doors to let people know how her robots worked but few showed interest. “But now, it’s different,” says Nejat. “People calling from around the world ask when my robots are going to be ready.” Nejat’s robots are designed to meet an increasing need—caregiving for the old. The population of the people over age 80 will be more than 426 million in 2050, about three times larger than that now.
Such robots could be especially useful to patients with Alzheimer’s disease (老年痴呆症). They can help with everyday activities from preparing food to telling the patients to take their medicine on time. They can also play games with patients to keep them active.
Some have worried that care-giving robots might reduce human interaction (互动) and cause more humans to lose their jobs. “But the purpose is to support human care, not to take the place of it,” says Brian Scassellati. He has tested robots with different patients, and found that daily interaction with robots can help children with autism spectrum disorder (自闭症谱系障碍) improve social skills.
As a field grows, scientists try to understand human-robot relationships better. Do robots offer advantages (优点) because they don’t have feelings and don’t give opinions? Will patients lose interest?
“One thing is clear,” Scassellati says. “Robots can give care to the customers and the need for that will increase in the future.”
51. The writer starts the passage by ________.
A. using sayings B. showing some facts
C. raising a question D. providing some suggestions
52. Nejat’s robots are designed to________.
A. treat patients B. make phone calls
C. take care of the old D. knock on doors
53. Paragraph3 mainly talks about ________.
A. what the robots can do
B. a test on the old people
C. serious problems the robots may cause
D. old people’s opinions on the robots
54. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. Scientists aren’t trying to understand human-robot relationships.
B. The need for taking care of the children is increasing these years.
C. Such robots can help autistic children improve their social skills.
D. Many people called to order the robots when they were first made.
55. From Scassellati’s words, we can infer (推断) that Nejat’s robots ________
A. will have feelings soon B. will get more popular
C. can take the place of humans D. can give their own opinions
【答案】51. B 52. C 53. C 54. C 55. B
【解析】

【52题详解】
第一段指出“Nejat’s robots are designed to meet an increasing need--care-giving for the old.”,直接表明机器人的设计目的是照顾老人。
【53题详解】

Silk, the word itself is beautiful. The story of silk started in China over 4,000 years ago. It is said that a silkworm’s cocoon (蚕茧) fell into a woman’s teacup. It then opened into a single, unbroken thread (线).
____56____ The Chinese learned they could use the cocoons to make cloth that was both beautiful to look at and soft to touch.
____57____ In other countries, silk was valuable and not often seen. Often it was worth more than gold. It’s said that the secret finally got out when a princess left China to go to India. In her hair, she secretly carried many silkworms.
By the year 1 AD., silk was sold as far west as Rome, and all along the Silk Road. ____58____ Centuries later, in 1522, the Spanish brought silkworms to Mexico.
Nowadays people around the world still make many beautiful things from silk. Silk isn’t only beautiful. It seems that it’s easy to break. ____59____ For example, it has been used to make bicycle tires (轮胎). And some doctors even use silk threads in the hospital. ____60____ This makes it great for clothes like winter jackets, pants, and shoes.
All of this from a little insect—the silkworm. That is the miracle (奇迹) of silk.
A. Actually, it’s very strong.

C. This was an important discovery.
D. Making silk was a protected secret in China for many years.
E. Around the year 300, silk also traveled from China to Japan.

【59题详解】
第四段提到“It seems that it’s easy to break”,紧接着后文举例“it has been used to make bicycle tires”,选项A“Actually, it’s very strong.”与前文“看似易断”形成转折对比,再用轮胎的例子印证其强度,逻辑通顺。

The oil paper umbrella is a traditional Chinese handicraft (手工艺品). It has a history of over 1,000 years in China. In the early Tang Dynasty, it was introduced to Japan and Korea, so it was called the “Tang Umbrella”. Later oil paper umbrellas were introduced to other Asian countries, such as Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, and each had its own style. However, as steel-ribbed umbrellas appeared in the last century, the hand-made oil paper umbrellas became less used in daily life.
Yuhang in Hangzhou is known for making oil paper umbrellas for more than 230 years. They are mainly made of skin paper, bamboo and Tung oil. They need to take more than 70 steps to make, including making bamboo ribs, pasting paper and painting patterns (图案). It takes at least a week to make such an umbrella. In 2008, these umbrellas were added to Intangible Cultural Heritage List of China.
A young man called Liu Weixue learned the traditional art of making Yuhang oil paper umbrellas from his grandfather. “I want to bring the art to life,” Liu said. He improved the umbrellas to win the hearts of young people. As the traditional paper was easy to break, he started to use a kind of thicker paper. In a test, his umbrellas were opened and closed for 1,000 times without breaking. He used a kind of lighter bamboo to make the umbrellas weigh less.

【答案】例文:
I’m glad to make a speech here. I would like to talk about the mobile phone. It was invented by Martin Cooper in America in 1973. Jason thinks it’s very useful in daily life, while Anna feels upset because her mom stops her from using it too much, worrying that it may affect her study.
In my opinion, the mobile phone is a helpful tool, but we should use it wisely. We can use it to learn, search for information, and keep in touch with friends. However, spending too much time on it is bad for our eyes and study. So I believe teenagers should set time limits and avoid using it during study hours. Let’s make good use of this great invention.

A. 倾诉 B. 释放 C. 意识到 D. 担心
49. What might Aditi Jha think of Feel Now?

50. What do Taara and Siena believe about Feel Now?
A. It should look prettier. B. It should have a higher value.

Now Liu hopes the art can be passed on. He goes to local schools to teach students. He also goes to events in different places to introduce the art.
