Plains wanderers(领鹑) are small, rare(稀有的) birds that live in grasslands. Unlike most birds, female plains wanderers are larger and stronger than males. Mother birds take the lead in protecting their homes and babies from animals like foxes, while males often sit on the eggs to keep them warm. These birds are hard to find because their feathers(羽毛) blend into the grass, making them look like part of the landscape. Sadly, their numbers have been dropping because people are taking over their grassland homes for farms and cities.

To save them, scientists are using AI. The key is the birds’ calls. Mother wanderers make soft sounds to talk to their babies and warn about danger. These calls are quiet and easy to miss, but AI can hear them clearly.

Scientists put microphones in the grasslands to record sounds all day and night. Then they put these recordings into a computer program. The AI learns to tell the difference between the wanderers’ calls and other noises, like the wind blowing or water running. This helps scientists find where the mother birds are and how many babies they have.

“AI helps us watch these birds without influencing them,” says Dr. Lee, who leads the project. “We can find the most important areas for them and work to protect those places.” Once, the AI helped scientists find a hidden nest with three baby birds. Without AI, they might not have found it. Thanks to this technology, there is new hope for these rare birds.

Parents have a new tool in the argument over screen time, with a British app asking kids to solve a maths or an English problem before they can unlock their phones.

London couple Issac and Ann Edward turned their bright idea into an app called 1Question and tried it on their daughter Elisa." At first I wasn’t sure about it," Eliza said. “I didn't want my friends to blame me if their parents made them get it. But once I started using it, I realized it doesn't take that long to answer a question and it's actually very cool.”

Research has shown that almost half of children aged between 6 and 13 either have a mobile phone or

have access to one. Most of them play games or use apps like YouTube for about five hours a day.

“Much like adding vegetables into a cake, the 1Question app creates micro learning time," Mrs. Edward said." We created a way that mixes screen time with study." Parents can download the app onto their child's phone, choose their grades and subjects, then keep an eye each time their child. correctly answers a question to open a game or app.

" We designed the user experience to be really simple, but in the process is our AI," Mr. Edward said." As your children learn, so does the AI, which works out each child's area of weakness. It makes a customized path for their learning. That means every child has a different learning plan that fits their own situation.

The app has a base of 12,000 questions developed by teachers from the US and UK for primary school children. There are plans to develop the app for senior high school students. The couple has also won the support of their neighbors, including actor Brian Sting, who replied to the thoughts of many parents when he said," Where was this app a few years ago?"
