五、阅读理解。
Growing up, students are repeatedly told that their actions and choices in high school will influence the rest of their lives, but to what degree is this actually the case? In fact, far more decisions made in high school matter and can decide the rest of one’s life than many may think, including one’s grades, behavior, friendships, and so on.
Failing to perform well in high school can influence students’ future by reducing their school choices for further education and even their chances of getting a good job in the future. Studies have shown that a student’s GPA(平均学分绩点) is related to his future pay. For example, students who have a 4.0 GPA make more than $50,000 a year, while those with a 2.5 GPA or lower may not even break $40,000.
Yet, the importance of high school is beyond report cards. According to Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist(心理学家), the events happening between the ages of 12 and 18 decide whether or not a person develops a full sense of self. During this stage, teens generally ask themselves “Who am I?”. They often identify themselves with certain types of music, books, etc., through which teens begin to discover themselves and their relationship with the world.
Social circles also play a role in shaping who you are. Schools offer a special environment in which students find themselves in one place for no reason other than age and where they live. Clearly, this provides students with experiences they couldn’t find anywhere else and allows them to develop good and real friendships.
Without doubt, choices made in high school have long-lasting effects throughout one’s life. Therefore, high school students and their families must make sure that they have a good experience and a healthy environment for self-exploration. It is worth mentioning that while students need to focus mainly on their grades and behavior, they shouldn’t fall into the common trap(陷阱) of caring too much.

D.To list the results of different subject choices.
2.Which can replace the underlined phrase “identify themselves with” in paragraph 3?( )
A.Keep away from. B.Think highly of.
C.Fall in love with. D.Feel a connection to.
3.Which can lead to close friendships during teenage years?( )
A.Common study goals. B.The same age and location.
C.Shared hobbies and interests. D.The similar family background.
4.What is the author’s suggestion for high school students?( )

Starting senior high school is an exciting new chapter in your life. However, the heavier schoolwork and more challenging courses can make it stressful at first. 1. ___ Here are some practical tips to help you.
2. ___ Unlike junior high school, senior high school requires more independent learning. You should get into the habit of planning your study schedule in advance. For example, use a planner to write down homework deadlines(最后期限) and exam dates. This way, you won’t miss any important tasks or feel worried by last-minute hurry.
Active participation(参与) in class is another key tip. 3. ___ Don’t be afraid to raise your hand and share your ideas. Teachers are often pleased with students who listen carefully in class, and this also helps you stay focused and understand the material better. If you don’t understand something, ask questions immediately instead of waiting until it’s too late.
Developing effective note-taking skills is important too. 4. ___ Instead of writing down every word the teacher says, focus on key points and main ideas. After class, review your notes and organize them to strengthen your memory.
Finally, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Getting enough sleep, eating healthy meals, and exercising regularly are all important for your academic(学业的) performance. 5. ___ By balancing study and self-care, you’ll be able to stay energetic and perform well at senior high school.
