Mia’s father had a laboratory, but she had no idea what was in it. Her dad always closed and locked the door when he went in. She knew that he used it to do projects for work. He never told Mia what these projects were.
One night, Mia approached the door to the laboratory. She stopped and thought, “I wonder what crazy experiment he is doing now.” Suddenly, she heard a loud noise. It sounded like an evil laugh. The noise scared her, so she walked quickly back to her room.
The next night, her friend Liz came to her house. When Liz arrived, Mia told her about the night before. “Oh, it was terrible,” she said. “Why don’t we see what is in there?” Liz asked. “It will be a fun adventure!” Mia felt nervous about going into her father’s laboratory, but she agreed. As always, the door was locked. They waited until Mia’s father left the laboratory to eat dinner. “He didn’t lock the door!” Liz said. “Let’s go.”
The laboratory was dark. The girls walked down the stairs carefully. Mia smelled strange chemicals. What terrible thing was her father creating? Suddenly, they heard an evil laugh. It was even worse than the one Mia heard the night before. What if a monster was going to kill them? Mia had to do something. She shouted for help.
Mia’s father ran into the room and turned on the lights. “Oh, no,” he said. “You must have learned my secret.”
“Your monster tried to kill us.” Mia said.
“Monster?” he asked. “You mean this?” He had a pretty doll in his hands. The doll laughed. The laugh didn’t sound so evil anymore. “I made this for your birthday. I wanted to give it to you then, but you can have it now. I hope you like it!”

(B)
Most 15-year-olds are busy with homework, but Lu Yulong was busy building a plasma speaker (等离子扬声器). Born in 1995 in China, this young inventor later became famous as the “Lightning Man”. But his journey was not easy. When he was 12, a chemistry experiment went wrong and he was badly hurt. However, he did not give up. By 16, he had already built a plasma speaker and gotten a national patent (专利)!
Instead of going to a top university, Lu chose to start his own company, Yulong Aerospace. In February 2026, his team successfully launched a 12-meter liquid rocket named “Shenzhen Pioneer.” It flew 3.7 kilometers high.
So, what makes Lu special? He wants to make space travel very cheap. How? He uses common things like metal parts and everyday computer chips. He does not copy traditional rocket designs. Instead, he uses a simpler way called the “pressure-fed cycle,” which saves a lot of money. His goal is to send one kilogram of things into space for only 480 US dollars. That is much cheaper than SpaceX’s Falcon 9, which is a rocket made by an American company called SpaceX!
Another secret to Lu’s success is location. His company is in Shenzhen, a city with thousands of factories. Need a metal part? There is a factory nearby. Need a computer chip? Another factory can make it fast and cheap. Instead of buying expensive “space-grade” parts, Lu uses cheaper “industrial-grade” parts. He believes that building rockets should be like building cars—using factories to make many of them at a low cost.
Lu does not want to be called “China’s Elon Musk”. He says, “I just want to be Yulong from China.” By using the powerful factories in Shenzhen, he is building a new path for China’s space industry. His story tells us: you don’t need to come from a big name to reach for the stars. You just need a big dream—and the courage to build it yourself.
30. Which of the following is one of Lu Yulong’s secrets to success?
A. He follows traditional rocket designs.
B. He got a national patent at the age of 16.
C. He studied at a world-famous top university.
D. He makes good use of Shenzhen’s local factories.
31. Which is Lu’s way of cutting down the cost of rockets?
A. By making use of simpler designs. B. By copying traditional rocket designs.
C. By producing all the parts by himself. D. By choosing cheaper “industrial-grade” parts.
32. What can we learn from Lu’s words, “I just want to be Yulong from China”?
A. He wishes to just stay in China.
B. He doesn’t like Elon Musk at all.
C. He wants to have a bigger name than this.
D. He is proud of himself and his motherland.
33. Why does the writer write this passage?
A. To compare Lu Yulong with Elon Musk.
B. To explain how to build a rocket step by step.
C. To encourage young people to follow their dreams.
D. To introduce the history of China’s space industry.
【答案】30. D 31. A 32. D 33. C

(D)
Imagine eating only hamburgers every day. At first, it tastes great. But after a month, your body would be weak and sick because you need different kinds of food. Your brain works the same way. If you only read or watch one type of information, you will trap yourself in an information cocoon (信息茧房).
An information cocoon is like a mental bubble. It happens when you only see information that you already like or agree with. Social media apps make this worse. Their algorithms (算法) notice what you click on and keep showing you more of the same. For example, if you watch one funny cat video, your phone will give you a hundred more. If you agree with one political opinion online, the algorithm will hide the opposite view. Soon, you feel like everyone thinks the same way you do — but that is not true. You are just inside a cocoon.
Staying in an information cocoon can hurt you in three ways. First, it narrows your mind. You stop hearing different opinions. Over time, you may become stubborn or even angry when someone disagrees with you. Second, it makes you easy to fool. Bad people can use closed online groups to spread lies or extreme ideas. If you never see the facts from the other side, you might believe those lies. Third, you miss the real world. Our world is full of different cultures, ideas, and people. Staying in your comfort zone means you lose the chance to learn something new and exciting.
The good news is that you can escape from the cocoon. Here are some simple ways. First, search actively. Do not just wait for the algorithm to feed you. When you have a question, look for answers from different sides. Second, follow respectful “opponents.” Find one or two people who think differently from you but are still polite and logical. Listen to them not to argue, but to understand. Third, take a “news break.” Spend a few hours each week without short videos or recommended news. Instead, read a book, talk to a friend, or go outside.
Your brain needs different kinds of information. Break the cocoon today, and you will see a bigger, more beautiful world.
37. How does the writer lead in the topic “information cocoon” in Paragraph 1?
A. By giving scientific facts.
B. By comparing it with eating habits.
C. By providing readers with survey data.
D. By asking readers a series of questions.
38. What is the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A. How to avoid opposite views online.
B. Ways to use phone algorithms more wisely.
C. The working principles of social media algorithms.
D. What an information cocoon is and how it happens.
39. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A. Online lies or videos can hardly influence teenagers.
B. Comfort zones help people learn more about the world.
C. Staying in the cocoon harms people’s thinking and judgment.
D. People in an information cocoon are more open to new ideas.
40. Which of the following is not a good way to escape from the “information cocoon”?
A. Cindy watches her favorite short videos every night.
B. Leo checks different websites for a school project.
C. Anna listens to different opinions from her classmates.
D. Tom looks for information in the library about chemistry.
【答案】37. B 38. D 39. C 40. A

第三段指出待在信息茧房中的危害:“First, it narrows your mind... Second, it makes you easy to fool... Third, you miss the real world.”,由此可以推断出“待在茧房中会损害人们的思维和判断力”。
【40题详解】
第四段给出了逃离信息茧房的建议:“First, search actively... Second, follow respectful ‘opponents’... Third, take a ‘news break’.”,选项A中“Cindy watches her favorite short videos every night”恰恰是陷入信息茧房的行为,与文中建议相悖,因此不是好的逃离方式。

Mia replied: “…”

C. “Dad, I really had a good time in the laboratory.”
D. “Dad, I’m sorry for shouting and causing troubles.”
(C)
As we all know, environmental pollution is serious nowadays. Our group wanted to know how much our Chinese young people knew about this problem and we wanted to learn whether they realized the situation of our environment. So we did a survey among Chinese young people.
This survey was mainly about some kinds of environmental problems in China and the situation of the polluted environment. What’s more, we also focused on the environmental awareness of our Chinese young people. In the project, we also designed a questionnaire to survey the young people in our society.
The questions in the questionnaire could be divided into two parts. The first part was mainly about some knowledge of the environmental problems in China. And the second part was about awareness of protecting the environment.
Here are the results of our questionnaire.

34. Why did the group do the survey?
A. To study ways to solve pollution problems.
B. To ask young people to protect the environment.
C. To find out the causes of environmental pollution.
D. To learn young people’s views on the environment.
35. Which problem is known by the fewest people?
A. Air pollution. B. Water pollution. C. Soil pollution. D. Global warming.

A. Young people know much about environmental problems.
B. Young people should care more about environmental problems.
C. Most young people refuse to use plastic bags in their daily life.
D. Young people care about global warming more than air pollution.
