When Angel Reese first joined the Chicago Sky as the No.7 pick in the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) draft, the transition was far from smooth. The player known in college for her dominant rebounding (篮板球) and competitive spirit faced a steep learning curve against experienced professionals. Questions were raised about whether her game would translate, and her statistics in the early weeks were solid but not impressive, leading some experts to wonder if she was being overshadowed by other rookies (新手).
But Reese, with her constant efforts, quickly turned a corner. In a decisive mid-season game against the Connecticut Sun, she recorded an incredible 25 points and 16 rebounds, announcing her arrival as a force. Her impact goes beyond numbers; she has transformed the Sky’s defensive identity and become an emotional leader. “Confronted with pressure from the media in the down time, she brings an energy that’s infectious,” said Head Coach Teresa Weatherspoon. “She’s not just playing her best; she’s motivating everyone around her.”
Perhaps Reese’s most significant contribution is happening off the court. Jerseys (运动衫) with her name are flying off shelves, and Sky games, particularly on the road, are drawing new crowds eager to see the “Chi-Town Barbie.” The league’s television ratings and social media engagement see substantial rises during her eye-catching performances. She, along with an exceptional rookie class, is credited with driving a new era of exposure and commercial growth for the WNBA.
The narrative has shifted from questioning her fit to forecasting her ceiling. A strong candidate for Rookie of the Year, Reese is no longer just a prospect; she is a cornerstone. Her journey from a screened newcomer to a league ambassador underscores how the right personality and talent, coupled with resilience, can rapidly reshape both a team’s fortunes and the sport’s cultural footprint.
24. How did the public react to Angel Reese initially?
A. They didn’t pay enough attention to her role. B. They were deeply impressed by her skills.
C. They thought she would win awards quickly. D. They doubted her ability as a WNBA player.
25. What can be inferred about Reese from Teresa’ s comment?
A. She improves the team’s fame. B. She lifts her teammates’ spirits.
C. She plays the best on the team. D. She handles media pressure easily.
26. Why was Reese called “Chi-Town Barbie”?
A. To promote a commercial brand. B. To increase her media engagement.
C. To reflect her popularity and identity. D. To display her catchy performances.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. An introduction to the Chicago Sky. B. The importance of a positive mindset.
C. A player’s journey and her impact. D. The characteristics of sports culture.

Days after Chinese regulators approved what officials describe as the world’s first invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) device cleared for commercial use in patients, Shanghai announced three new research centers aimed at accelerating the technology’s development. The device, known as the NEO system, was developed by Shanghai-based company Neuracle Medical Technology. On March 13, China’s National Medical Products Administration granted it a Class III medical device certificate — the country’s highest regulatory classification—allowing it to enter clinical use.
Zeng Yuhang, an engineer at Neuracle, told Shanghai-based outlet The Paper that the implanted sensors are about the size of a coin. The device uses an epidural implantation (硬膜外植入术) approach that sits above the brain’s protective layer, reducing potential damage to brain tissue while maintaining signal quality. The system is also battery-free. A magnetic coil powers the implant wirelessly, eliminating the need for patients to remove the device for charging. After implantation, patients may be able to operate the system independently at home about one month after surgery.
One participant in the trial, identified only by the surname Dong, joined the study in October2024. After more than a year of rehabilitation (复原) training, he was able to write simple phrases such as “thank you” and his own name without assistance from the brain-computer interface. With the help of the device, Dong was also able to perform tasks he had been unable to do for four years, including lifting a cup, drinking water, and putting the cup back down.
Two days after the NEO system received clearance, Shanghai announced three BCI research centers at the Shanghai International Forum on Lansheng Brain Science and BCI. Two of them led by Shanghai Lansheng Brain Medical Research Co., Ltd., will focus on innovative research and AI integration. And the third led by Tongji University Affiliated Tianyou Hospital will work on targeted neuromodulation (神经调节) therapy.
Mao Ying, president of Huashan Hospital — which has conducted the largest number of clinical trial cases—said future versions of the technology could eventually help paralyzed patients walk again by targeting recovery in the lower limbs. However, he cautioned that BCI technology remains in its early stages. “We hope the public understands that current BCI technology cannot instantly resolve symptoms,” Mao said. “These technologies cannot be used immediately after implantation and require extensive training and rehabilitation.”
28. What makes the NEO system special?
A. Complete cure for brains. B. Frequent battery changes.
C. Direct control of human brain. D. First commercial invasive BCI.
29. What can we learn about the epidural implantation?
A. It causes serious brain damage. B. It is for minor injury patients only.
C. It maintains signal quality while keeping the risk low. D. It costs more than traditional surgeries.
30. Why is Dong’s example mentioned?
A. To present BCI’s commercial use. B. To explain implantation procedures.
C. To show writing without brain signals. D. To prove NEO system’s effectiveness.
31. What’s the author’s attitude towards BCI technology?
A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Optimistic. D. Skeptical.

In the digital age, we live in a world designed by recommendation engines. From the music we stream to the news we read, clever software is constantly predicting what we might want next. This “algorithmic (算法) system” promises to make our lives more efficient by removing the trouble of making choices. In theory, it should make us more satisfied by delivering exactly what we like. In practice, however, it is creating a “convenience trap” that gradually weakens our sense of self.
The fundamental problem with this digital culture is that it is naturally backward-looking. An algorithm functions by analyzing your past behavior — what you clicked, watched, or liked — to suggest something similar. This creates a “repetitive cycle” that strengthens our existing tastes rather than challenging them. If we only ever see what we already like, we lose the chance for unexpected discoveries. We are no longer active explorers of culture; we are merely consumers being fed back our own reflections.
Furthermore, this constant digital guidance has a deep psychological impact. As we rely more on machines to make decisions for us, our ability to judge for ourselves begins to disappear. When an app tells us which restaurant to visit or which route to take, we stop exercising our own minds. This leads to a state of “mental autopilot,” where we drift through life following the easiest path provided by data. The personal will that once defined the human experience — the conscious act of making a choice — is being replaced by a passive acceptance of suggestions.
To resist this, we must reintroduce intentionality into our daily lives. This does not mean abandoning technology, but making a deliberate effort to seek out the unknown. It might mean wandering into a bookstore without a specific plan, or choosing a movie based on a friend’s suggestion rather than a “match” score. By embracing the unexpected, we can reclaim the autonomy that the digital world takes away. The goal is to ensure that technology remains a tool for our use, rather than a blueprint for who we are.
32. What is the primary function of algorithms?
A. To predict future preferences. B. To provide digital security.
C. To record users’ past behavior. D. To encourage creative thinking.
33. What does paragraph 2 mainly discuss?
A. The history of online behavior. B. The restriction of repetitive cycles.
C. The benefits of personalized data. D. The importance of cultural diversity.
34. What does the underlined part “mental autopilot” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. A skill for future life. B. A result of excessive data.
C. A way to save time. D. A loss of independence.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Stay in Control of Our Digital Lives. B. Reflect on the Algorithmic System.
C. Regain the Power of Cultural Tastes. D. Escape from the Trap of Algorithms.

How to Be Friends with Your Siblings as Adults
A positive sibling relationship is a growing source of mutual support. Siblings can form an inseparable part of our social networks. However, it’s not all sunshine and sandcastles. As psychologist Tausig points out, “Siblings can grow apart as they grow up.” ____36____ There is a trick to strengthening your bond with your brothers or sisters.
·Start with regular, genuine conversations.
Stop treating sibling communication like a chore. Take the time to check in with them, find out how they are doing and what they are up to. Learn to listen truly — not the kind where you’re mentally planning your grocery list. Set a reminder to call or text once a week, even for 10 minutes. Don’t just ask simple questions like “How are you?” ____37____
·Respect who they are now.
Your “baby” sibling is now 25, all grown up with their own thoughts and opinions. “No two people grow up in the same family,” Tausig says. “Age, timing, birth order, gender, family structure and other variables influence how people experience the ‘same’ family.” ____38____The solution? Approach your sibling with genuine curiosity about who they are now.
·Drop the ancient complaints.
Yes, your brother stole your favorite toy in your childhood. Your sister told others about that party you slipped out to. “It’s normal to have feelings of guilt, anger or uncertainty over the past,” Tausig says. ____39____ That controlling older brother? He was probably overwhelmed. That annoying little sister who let out your secret? She wanted attention. If old complaints keep coming up, try saying, “I know we had our conflicts growing up, but I’d really like to start fresh.”
·____40____
“As with any relationship, both individuals have to be willing to do this,” Tausig says. You can’t force a friendship, even with family. But you can extend the olive branch and be open to response. This might mean being the one who takes the first step more often or accepting your sibling’s style of connection even if it’s different from yours.
A. Change your style of connection.
B. Be willing to reach a middle ground.
C. It’s never too late to repair a broken relationship.
D. These differences become more evident in adulthood.
E. But with intentional effort, you can build something special.
F. Start with words like “What’s been the best part of your week?”
G. Rather than focusing on old arguments, try to understand your siblings from an adult perspective.

In the heart of the ancient town, there stood a small paper-cutting studio, tucked away between two modern boutiques. Master Lin, the owner, had been devoted to the folk art of paper-cutting for over forty years. His works were breathtaking: vivid dragons and phoenixes and delicate Chinese characters—all lifelike, with every cut precise and smooth. Locals praised his craftsmanship as a living treasure of the town.
He had two apprentices (学徒): his trendy college granddaughter Lin Xue, and Li Mo, a quiet boy who stuck firmly to tradition. Though they practiced hard, Master Lin always shook his head. “You copy the shapes, but not the soul of the craft,” he would say.
Across the street was a popular modern handicraft store. Its owner often mocked the old studio, saying young people preferred fashionable crafts over outdated paper-cuttings. Master Lin remained calm and kept working.
When Master Lin fell seriously ill and later passed away, Lin Xue and Li Mo tried their best to run the studio. However, fewer and fewer customers stepped in. Business decreased day by day, and the studio was on the edge of closing down.
Lin Xue was eager to make changes: replace the old red paper with colorful craft paper, design simple cartoon patterns, and sell small paper-cutting keychains online. But Li Mo firmly disagreed, insisting that they must stick to Master Lin’s traditional techniques. One day, while tidying up Master Lin’s worktable, Lin Xue found a tattered sketchbook filled with his drafts: cartoon-style paper-cuttings of ancient characters, mini paper-cutting bookmarks, and notes written in his shaky handwriting:
“Traditional patterns are the root, but new designs can let more people see the beauty of paper-cutting. Keep the soul, change the form. Pass on the craft, not just the old looks.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Holding the sketchbook tightly, the two youngsters made a decision together.

M: Just a minute. Oh, I apologize, madam. There does seem to be a mistake. I will have the correct size bag sent to you by overnight mail. It should arrive in time for your Saturday trip. Again I apologize for any inconvenience caused by our mistake. I promise it won’t happen again.
W: Well, thank you.
M: You’ re welcome. I hope you will have a wonderful vacation.

A. Negative. B. Objective. C. Optimistic. D. Skeptical.
D 29. C 30. D 31. B

A 33. B 34. D 35. A
根据第一段中“From the music we stream to the news we read, clever software is constantly predicting what we might want next.(我们流媒体播放的音乐到阅读的新闻,精巧的软件不断预测着我们接下来可能想要什么。)”
根据第二段“The fundamental problem with this digital culture is that it is naturally backward-looking. An algorithm functions by analyzing your past behavior — what you clicked, watched, or liked — to suggest something similar. This creates a “repetitive cycle” that strengthens our existing tastes rather than challenging them. If we only ever see what we already like, we lose the chance for unexpected discoveries. We are no longer active explorers of culture; we are merely consumers being fed back our own reflections.(这种数字文化的根本问题在于其本质上具有向后看的倾向。算法通过分析你的过往行为——比如你点击、观看或点赞的内容——来推荐类似的东西。这形成了一种“重复循环”,强化了我们现有的偏好,而非挑战它们。如果我们只看到自己已经喜欢的事物,就失去了意外发现的机会。我们不再主动探索文化,而只是被动地接受来自自身反馈的信息。)”可知,第二段主要讨论了算法形成的 “重复循环”如何限制了用户的视野和体验。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中“When an app tells us which restaurant to visit or which route to take, we stop exercising our own minds.(当一款应用告诉我们该去哪家餐厅,或该走哪条路线时,我们便不再动用自己的思维。)”以及“The personal will that once defined the human experience — the conscious act of making a choice — is being replaced by a passive acceptance of suggestions.(曾经定义人类体验的个人意志——即有意识地做出选择的行为——正被被动接受建议所取代。)”结合划线短语中“This leads to a state of … where we drift through life following the easiest path provided by data.( 这导致了……的状态,我们随数据提供的最便捷路径漂浮于生活之中。)”可知,上文提到我们便不再动用自己的思维,下文说人类体验的个人意志正被被动接受建议所取代,由此可知,划线部分“mental autopilot”指的是人们过度依赖算法做决定,不再独立思考,失去了自主判断和选择的能力,只能被动接受数据的建议,D选项A loss of independence“独立性的丧失”符合语境。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段“In the digital age, we live in a world designed by recommendation engines. From the music we stream to the news we read, clever software is constantly predicting what we might want next. This “algorithmic (算法) system” promises to make our lives more efficient by removing the trouble of making choices. In theory, it should make us more satisfied by delivering exactly what we like. In practice, however, it is creating a “convenience trap” that gradually weakens our sense of self.(在数字时代,我们生活在一个由推荐引擎设计的世界里。

E 37. F 38. D 39. G 40. B

由上文“Siblings can grow apart as they grow up (兄弟姐妹长大后可能会疏远)”以及下文“There is a trick to strengthening your bond with your brothers or sisters. (有一个加强与兄弟姐妹联系的技巧)”可知,本空要说虽然可能疏远但通过努力可以改善关系。E选项“But with intentional effort, you can build something special. (但通过有意的努力,你可以建立起特别的东西)”能承上启下,符合题意。
【37题详解】
由上文“Don’t just ask simple questions like “How are you?”(不要只问像“你怎么样?”这样简单的问题)”可知,本空应承接上文,给出具体的提问建议或替代方案,F选项“Start with words like “What’s been the best part of your week?” (从诸如“你这周最棒的部分是什么?”之类的话开始)”符合语境,给出了具体的沟通话术。
【38题详解】
由上文“Age, timing, birth order, gender, family structure and other variables influence how people experience the ‘same’ family.(年龄、时机、出生顺序、性别、家庭结构等变量,会让每个人对同一个家庭有不同的体验)”可知,本空承接上文,说明这些差异在成年后会更加明显。D选项“These differences become more evident in adulthood.(这些差异在成年后会变得更加明显)”符合语境,该选项中的“These differences”指代上文各种导致家庭体验不同的变量。
和上文“It’s normal to have feelings of guilt, anger or uncertainty over the past(对过往心存愧疚、愤怒、迷茫都是正常的)”以及下文“That controlling older brother? He was probably overwhelmed. That annoying little sister who let out your secret? She wanted attention. (那个控制欲强的哥哥?他当时可能压力太大了。那个泄露你秘密的烦人妹妹?她只是想引起注意)”可知,本空需要过渡,说明不要纠结旧矛盾,要成熟看待手足过往。G选项“Rather than focusing on old arguments, try to understand your siblings from an adult perspective.(不要纠结旧日争执,试着以成年人的视角理解你的兄弟姐妹)”贴合本段主旨,承接上文、引出下文的换位思考。
由本段后文“As with any relationship, both individuals have to be willing to do this(与任何关系一样,双方都必须愿意这样做)”和“This might mean being the one who takes the first step more often or accepting your sibling’s style of connection even if it’s different from yours.(这可能意味着更多地迈出第一步,或者接受你的兄弟姐妹的联系方式,即使它与你的不同)”可知,本段主旨是互相包容、彼此迁就、折中磨合。B选项“Be willing to reach a middle ground.(愿意达成折中)”可以概括本段段落主旨,适合作为小标题。

people with chronic conditions 是固定表达,意为“患有慢性疾病的人”,介词 with 表示“带有、具有(某种特征或疾病)”。
It is recommended to do sth.是固定句型,and连接两个并列的不定式 to go to bed和to ensure,第二个不定式的 to可省略,故将形容词sure变为动词 ensure(确保)。
主语 Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption与动词avoid 是被动关系(这些行为应该被避免),情态动词should后接被动语态结构“be +过去分词”。

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Holding the sketchbook tightly, the two youngsters made a decision together.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Months later, the quiet paper-cutting studio was completely different.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Holding the sketchbook tightly, the two youngsters made a decision together. They would combine tradition with innovation. Li Mo kept using the classic cutting skills Master Lin had taught them, ensuring every piece was delicate and full of soul. Meanwhile, Lin Xue designed fresh patterns: cute cartoon animals, tiny flower bookmarks and keychains. They also packaged the works nicely and promoted them online, hoping to attract more young people. Both were full of hope, determined to carry on the precious folk art.
Months later, the quiet paper-cutting studio was completely different. It was crowded with customers of all ages. Tourists took photos and bought the creative paper-cuttings. Even the owner of the opposite store came over to admire them. More importantly, many young people who were drawn to the fresh designs came to admire the art and even learn basic cutting skills. The old art was reborn, proving that real inheritance means keeping the essence while embracing changes, allowing tradition to shine in modern times.
