Ahead of me stood an elderly man in a faded grey coat. His hands trembled slightly as he counted out coins onto the counter. “I’m sorry,” he whispered to the cashier, his voice thin and shaky. “I thought I had enough.” The cashier, a young woman who looked equally tired, sighed. “You’re short by five dollars, sir. Do you want to put something back?” People behind me became impatient. The old man looked at his things: a carton of milk, a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, and a small box of chocolate cookies. He slowly reached for the cookies. “I... I don’t need these. They were for my grandson, but...” I could see how embarrassed he was. Without thinking twice, I walked forward and paid with my card. “I’ll pay for it,” I said. “Please keep the cookies.” The man froze. He looked at me, his watery blue eyes wide with shock. “No, Miss, I couldn’t...” “It’s fine,” I smiled, hoping to ease his worry. “Consider it a gift for your grandson.” He tried to speak but choked up. He simply nodded, took his bag, and waited for me outside. When I walked out, he grabbed my hand. “You don’t know what this means. My pension (养老金) hasn’t arrived yet, and tomorrow is his birthday. Thank you.” A week later, I was back at the same store. As I walked down the passage, a little boy ran up to me, holding a familiar box of chocolate cookies. Behind him was the old man, smiling happily. “He wanted to share one with you,” the man said. That chocolate cookie tasted better than any fancy dessert I’d ever had. It tasted like connection. It tasted like hope. 24.Why did the author want to get home quickly? A.She was tired after a day of work. B.She was eager to meet her grandson. C.She didn’t like shopping at that store. D.She needed to prepare for tomorrow’s class. 25.What made the old man choose to put the cookies back? A.His own preference. B.Lack of money. C.High price of the cookies. D.The cashier’s suggestion. 26.How did the old man feel when the author paid for the cookies? A.Embarrassed and angry. B.Doubtful and cautious. C.Surprised and grateful. D.Indifferent and calm. 27.What message does the text mainly want to convey? A.Patience is a virtue in public. B.Kindness can create connections. C.Elderly people need more pensions. D.Family bonds are the most valuable. 根据第一段“I was standing in line at the grocery store, scrolling through my phone, impatient to get home after a long day of teaching.(我正站在杂货店的队伍里,一边用手机浏览着信息,迫不及待地想结束漫长的一天的教学工作后回到家)”可知,作者想要尽快回家是因为她工作了一天,感到很疲惫。 25. 根据第三段“The cashier, a young woman who looked equally tired, sighed. “You’re short by five dollars, sir. Do you want to put something back?”(收银员是一位看上去同样疲惫的年轻女士,她叹了口气说道:“先生,您少付了五美元。您想把某件东西放回去吗?”)”和第四段“The old man looked at his things: a carton of milk, a loaf of bread, a dozen eggs, and a small box of chocolate cookies. He slowly reached for the cookies. “I... I don’t need these. They were for my grandson, but...”(老人看着自己买的东西:一盒牛奶、一条面包、一打鸡蛋,还有一小盒巧克力饼干。他慢慢伸手去拿那盒饼干。“我…… 我不要这个了。本来是买给孙子的,可是……”)”可知,缺钱让这位老人决定把那些饼干放回去。 26.细节理解题。根据第六段“The man froze. He looked at me, his watery blue eyes wide with shock. “No, Miss, I couldn’t… ”(那个男人愣住了。他看着我,他那双清澈的蓝眼睛因震惊而睁得大大的。“不,小姐,我不能……”)”可知,当作者为这些饼干付钱时,那位老人惊讶又感激。 27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“It tasted like connection. It tasted like hope.(它有着一种让人联想到联系、让人充满希望的感觉)”可知,文章想说明的是善良能够建立联系。 C We’ve all seen this happen in a science-fiction movie: The super heroes jump into a shaky spaceship and escape the bad guys by flying through the asteroid (小行星) belt, where huge rocks fall and spin (旋转) so close that the crew has to duck and dive to avoid being broken into pieces. It’s exciting, but it’s wrong: In our solar system, the odds are pretty good that you could stand on the surface of an asteroid and not even be able to see another. Yet they do interact if given enough time. Even in the main asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, crashes are ineluctable. And when two space rocks go “crash” in the main belt, big impacts blow lots of asteroid fragments (碎片) out into space. In many cases, these fragments stay on much the same orbital path as the parent asteroid, although they gradually separate from it because of slight speed differences. After thousands of years, some fragments might be clear across the Sun, but their distance from the Sun and the shape and direction of their orbits remain similar. Such conserved features are collectively called an asteroid’s orbital elements. The groupings sharing orbital elements are identified as “families”, which are named after the largest asteroid in the group. Studying asteroids by focusing on their families can help us make a good guess about what properties a newly-found one has if it belongs to a better-studied family. Care must be taken, though. Some very large asteroids have differentiated materials in the center and on the surface, so confirming those guesses usually requires taking spectra (光谱), the time-consuming process of breaking an object’s incoming light into individual colors to reveal its composition. It’s more than a mere academic exercise to find this particular branch of an asteroid family tree: Some asteroids are potentially risky, meaning they could crash with Earth some time in the distant future. If we know how they find their way to the inner solar system from the main belt to pose threats in the first place, we can defend our planet from future worrisome asteroids. 28.What is the author’s view on the scene in the sci-fi movie? A.It ignores the special visual effects. B.It goes against the established facts. C.It overestimates the super heroes’ role. D.It fuels people’s interest in the asteroid. 29.Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “ineluctable” in paragraph 2? A.Unlikely. B.Uncommon. C.Unavoidable. D.Unimportant. 30.What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A.The formation of asteroid families. B.The definition of orbital elements. C.The moving pattern of asteroid fragments. D.The naming rule of asteroid groups. 31.What can be inferred about the study of asteroid family? A.It is a high-risk practice. B.It is built on assumptions. C.Its range needs to be expanded. D.Its value can’t be overstated. 根据第一段中“It’s exciting, but it’s wrong: In our solar system, the odds are pretty good that you could stand on the surface of an asteroid and not even be able to see another.(这很刺激,但这是错误的:在我们的太阳系中,你很有可能站在一颗小行星的表面而甚至看不到另一颗小行星。)” 根据第二段中“Yet they do interact if given enough time. Even in the main asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, crashes are ineluctable.(然而,如果给它们足够的时间,它们确实会互动。即使在火星和木星轨道之间的小行星带,碰撞也是ineluctable。)”以及“when two space rocks go “crash” in the main belt(当两块太空岩石在主带中“撞击”时)”可知,小行星在长时间下会发生相互作用,并讲述了两块岩石撞击的情况,由此可推测出,碰撞应该是必然会发生的。ineluctable意为“不可避免的”,与unavoidable意思相近。 30.主旨大意题。根据第三段“In many cases, these fragments stay on much the same orbital path as the parent asteroid, although they gradually separate from it because of slight speed differences. After thousands of years, some fragments might be clear across the Sun, but their distance from the Sun and the shape and direction of their orbits remain similar. Such conserved features are collectively called an asteroid’s orbital elements. The groupings sharing orbital elements are identified as “families”, which are named after the largest asteroid in the group.(在许多情况下,这些碎片与母小行星保持在大致相同的轨道上,尽管由于速度略有不同,它们会逐渐与母小行星分离。数千年后,一些碎片可能会完全在太阳对面,但它们与太阳的距离以及轨道的形状和方向仍然相似。这些保存下来的特征统称为小行星的轨道要素。共享轨道要素的组合被确定为“家族”,以该组合中最大的小行星命名。)”可知,本段主要讲述了小行星碰撞产生碎片,碎片因保留相似的轨道要素而形成“小行星家族”的过程,即小行星家族的形成。 31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“It’s more than a mere academic exercise... we can defend our planet from future worrisome asteroids.(这不仅仅是单纯的学术练习……我们可以保卫我们的星球免受未来令人担忧的小行星的威胁。)”可知,对小行星家族的研究不仅具有学术意义,更重要的是它能帮助我们了解威胁地球的小行星的来源,从而保卫地球。由此推断,这项研究的价值极其重要。 D The variety of bacteria (细菌) in our guts (肠道) has been used as a measure of overall health for years now. But recent studies suggest that what makes the guts of centenarians (people who live to be 100 or older) different is not the variety of bacteria species living there, but the balanced spread of those species. A 2023 study looked at the guts of over 1,500 people, including 297 centenarians. Dr Shuai Wang at China’s Guangxi Academy of Sciences says that while this study’s findings support the idea that centenarians have special gut bacteria linked to their long life, it showed that rather than variety, their good health was better reflected by balance. In fact, says Wang, “in many diseases, the variety of gut bacteria can be greater in sick patients than healthy people. This increase often happens due to a loss of gut barrier (屏障) resistance, allowing rare bacteria or bacteria that usually live elsewhere to settle there.” In older adults, he says, “A weaker gut barrier can cause a sudden increase of rare gut bacteria, which may lead to more types of bacteria, but not necessarily bring any extra health benefits.” The key to improving a weak gut barrier is fibre. Eating a high-fibre diet with plenty of vegetables keeps those barriers strong, and so does avoiding alcohol. Dr Mary Ni Lochlainn is another expert who thinks that bacterial variety isn’t everything. She ran an experiment providing older twins with prebiotic (益生元) fibre and found that “they all had a decrease in variety, because the prebiotic was causing certain bacteria to grow,” she says. “But they also all had improved cognition (认知), so it shows me the limitation of variety.” While variety may not be the most important thing for gut health, it can still play a positive role in later life. A 2016 study into weakness and the gut by Lochlainn’s colleagues at King’s found a link between weakness and lower bacterial variety. 32.What is the key to centenarians’ good health according to Dr Shuai Wang? A.A high-fibre diet with vegetables. B.A wide variety of gut bacteria. C.The strong function of gut barriers. D.A balanced spread of gut bacteria. 33.Why do some sick patients have higher gut bacterial variety? A.They take some vitamin pills. B.They eat more fibre-rich food. C.Their gut barrier becomes weaker. D.Their illness leads to more bacteria. 34.What can be inferred from the experiment led by Dr Mary Ni Lochlainn? A.Higher bacterial variety can improve cognition. B.Lower bacterial variety may not harm cognition. C.Prebiotic fibre can promote people’s physical health. D.Prebiotic fibre increases the total number of bacteria. 35.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.The Secret of Long Life: Regular Exercise. B.Prebiotic Fibre: The Way to a Healthy Gut. C.Weakening Gut Barrier: Survival of Rare Bacteria. D.Balance Over Variety: A New View on Gut Health. 根据第一段“But recent studies suggest that what makes the guts of centenarians (people who live to be 100 or older) different is not the variety of bacteria species living there, but the balanced spread of those species.(但近期研究表明,百岁老人(寿命达到 100 岁及以上的人)肠道的独特之处,不在于肠道内细菌物种的种类多少,而在于这些菌种分布的均衡性)”可知,百岁老人健康的关键是肠道细菌的平衡分布。 33. 根据第三段“In fact, says Wang, “in many diseases, the variety of gut bacteria can be greater in sick patients than healthy people. This increase often happens due to a loss of gut barrier (屏障) resistance, allowing rare bacteria or bacteria that usually live elsewhere to settle there.” (王博士表示:“事实上,在许多疾病中,患者肠道细菌的种类多样性反而会高于健康人群。这种细菌种类增多的现象,通常是因为肠道屏障抵抗力下降,使得稀有细菌或原本栖息在身体其他部位的细菌得以在肠道内定植存活。”)”可知,有些病人的肠道细菌种类更多是因为他们的肠道屏障抵抗力丧失,肠道屏障变弱了。 34.推理判断题。根据第四段“She ran an experiment providing older twins with prebiotic (益生元) fibre and found that “they all had a decrease in variety, because the prebiotic was causing certain bacteria to grow,” she says. “But they also all had improved cognition (认知), so it shows me the limitation of variety.”(她说,她做了一项实验,给老年双胞胎补充益生元膳食纤维,结果发现:他们肠道细菌的种类多样性全都下降了,因为益生元促使特定细菌大量繁殖。“但他们的认知能力反而都得到了改善,这也让我看到了(细菌)多样性这一指标的局限性。”)”可知,玛丽·尼·洛赫兰博士的实验表明,虽然益生元纤维导致肠道细菌种类减少,但受试者的认知能力却得到了提高,这说明较低的细菌种类多样性可能不会损害认知能力。 35.主旨大意题。根据第一段“The variety of bacteria in our guts has been used as a measure of overall health for years now.(多年来,我们肠道中的细菌种类一直被用作衡量整体健康的标准)”,第二段“it showed that rather than variety, their good health was better reflected by balance.(这表明,与多样性相比,他们的健康状况更能通过平衡来反映)”和最后一段“While variety may not be the most important thing for gut health, it can still play a positive role in later life.(虽然多样性可能不是肠道健康最重要的因素,但它仍然可以在以后的生活中发挥积极作用)”可知,文章主要讨论了肠道细菌种类与健康之间的关系,特别是关于长寿者肠道细菌的特点,即肠道细菌的平衡分布比细菌种类的多样性更为重要。 How to Make Friends Friends are so wonderful because they bring laughter, share adventures and comfort you in hard times. 36 Fortunately, once you know where to look and how to put yourself out there, making new friends doesn’t have to be hard. Here are some tips and strategies for building the friendships you deserve. 37 If you want to make friends, you first need to put yourself out there somehow in order to meet people. If you just sit alone, friends might come to you, but that’s not likely because they might think you want to stay alone. For example, if you’re still in school, sit somewhere with other people. It doesn’t have to be a crowded table, but try to choose one with at least 2 other people. Join an organization or club to meet new people. 38 You don’t necessarily need to have a lot of common interests with people in order to make friends with them. Some of the most rewarding friendships are between 2 people who don’t have much in common at all. Make eye contact and smile. If you don’t present a friendly and inviting appearance, people are less likely to be receptive to your friendship. 39 Be reliable. When you say you’ll do something, do it. 40 If you embody this quality in your treatment of others, it will attract others who appreciate reliability and who will be reliable in return. A.Make yourself available. B.Look for opportunities to talk to people. C.Show the good, unique qualities about yourself. D.Be someone that people know that they can depend on. E.But sometimes making new friends can feel really hard. F.This is a great way to find other people who have common interests. G.Look people directly in the eye when they are speaking to you and offer them a warm, friendly smile. 根据上文“Friends are so wonderful because they bring laughter, share adventures and comfort you in hard times.(朋友之所以如此美好,是因为他们能带来欢笑,与你一同经历冒险,并在你困难时给予你安慰)”以及后文“Fortunately, once you know where to look and how to put yourself out there, making new friends doesn’t have to be hard. Every time she opened her mouth, people would stare at her mouth. She had heard the whispers — “like a frog” — and learned to keep quiet, feeling extremely bad about her appearance. She spent her days hiding in corners: the back of the classroom, the farthest table in the library, the bench (长椅) behind the gym. She carried a book everywhere, holding it close like a shelter. But it was not a textbook. It was field guides, filled with leaves and flowers, their names and secrets. She knew every plant around the school, though no one knew she did. One afternoon in biology class, Ms Taylor announced a project. Each student had to collect different plants, press them, and put them on paper with descriptions. Her classmates were not happy about it. Tessa said nothing, but something woke up inside her quiet heart. After school, she walked to the woods behind the football field, walking slowly with her eyes on the ground. She found a lovely branch of yarrow (蓍草), a heart-shaped violet leaf, and a soft lamb’s ear leaf, picking each one carefully. By the playground, she discovered a tiny plot of moss, no bigger than her finger. On her way back, she picked a maple leaf still holding its autumn red. Back home, she pressed them between the pages of an old dictionary. Three days later, she took them out, finding them flat and perfect. She arranged them on a white paper, leaving space for each one. Then she began to write. Her handwriting was small and steady, each letter formed with care. Under each plant, she put the common name, the scientific name, where she found it, and a small detail only she would have noticed. She finished late at night. The next morning, she slipped her work into all students’ homework, saying nothing. She returned to her seat, opening a book as usual. She expected nothing. She never did. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 But when the teacher walked into the classroom, she was holding Tessa’s paper. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The students’ reaction gave her a great deal of confidence. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: But when the teacher walked into the classroom, she was holding Tessa’s paper. She held it up for everyone to see, a big smile on her face. “Look at this wonderful work!” she said loudly. “Tessa knew every plant’s name, even the smallest details. This is amazing!” All the students leaned forward, their eyes wide with surprise. Then someone started clapping. Soon the whole class joined in, their hands coming together. Tessa felt her face burning, her eyes fixed on her desk. The students’ reaction gave her a great deal of confidence. For the first time, she felt truly seen — not for her mouth, but for what she knew and could do. After that day, she began to change. She raised her hand in class, her voice shaking at first but growing stronger. She talked to her classmates during breaks, finding them kind and curious. More of her good sides came out, surprising everyone, including herself. Slowly, she came to understand that a person’s worth cannot be judged by appearance alone. 词类激活 行为类 ①鼓掌:clap/applaud ②交流:talk to/communicate with/interact with 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/astonishment ②(因害羞)脸红:face burning/face flaming/face blushing 【点睛】【高分句型1】All the students leaned forward, their eyes wide with surprise. B I was standing in line at the grocery store, scrolling through my phone, impatient to get home after a long day of teaching. C We’ve all seen this happen in a science-fiction movie: The super heroes jump into a shaky spaceship and escape the bad guys by flying through the asteroid (小行星) belt, where huge rocks fall and spin (旋转) so close that the crew has to duck and dive to avoid being broken into pieces. D The variety of bacteria (细菌) in our guts (肠道) has been used as a measure of overall health for years now. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Make Friends Friends are so wonderful because they bring laughter, share adventures and comfort you in hard times. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 When I was a little boy, after playing outside for a few hours, I would come back inside the house and have a deep smell. They managed 56 (join) their music, stories and performance techniques and what had already existed in the capital together. This combination (结合) also created 57 all-round stage system that is still popular in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and other cities. Peking Opera 58 (feature) four primary performance skills: singing, reciting, stylized movement and martial arts (唱念做打). Performers begin their training at a young age, learning to use their voices, control their breath, hold postures, and do martial movements 59 (perfect). Actors train in role types known as hangdang, which are broad types 60 (base) on age, personality and social position. The main groups include “sheng” for male roles, “dan” for female roles, “jing” for painted-face roles, 61 “chou” for clown roles (丑角). The art reached global 62 (audience) in the early 20th century through the work of Mei Lanfang, 63 was one of China’s most famous performers and specialized in playing female roles. Now, Peking Opera performances are staged across the world through cultural events. Young artists perform at universities, museums and cultural institutions across the US and Europe. This helps foreigners understand the art, even if they are unfamiliar 64 the language. It truly builds a bridge between China and other countries, 65 (allow) more people to fall in love with this traditional art. 第四部分 写作(共两节, 满分40分) 第一节(满分15分) 66.假定你是李华,受学生会的委托,围绕“垃圾分类,保护环境”这一主题,为学校宣传栏“英语天地”写一封倡议书,内容包括: 1.倡议的原因和目的; 2.倡议的具体内容; 3.呼吁学生行动起来。 注意:1.词数 80左右,开头和结尾已给出,不计入总词数; 2.可以适当增加细节,使行文连贯。 参考词汇:区分(differentiate);垃圾分类(garbage sorting) Dear fellow students, ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           The Students' Union 第二节(满分25分) 67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Tessa never spoke unless she had to. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
