A group of seventh-grade students in Maine (缅因州) helped bring back an endangered (濒危的) fish — the Atlantic salmon (大西洋鲑鱼). Through a school project, they raised salmon from eggs to fry (鱼苗) and then let them go free into a local river. The pictures below show the four stages of the salmon’s early life and what the students did at each stage.
“I believe hands-on learning, especially in the sciences, is a good way for students to learn more about nature,” said Vanessa Rehmeyer, their science teacher. “By seeing the salmon in little cups, drawing them, and recording their growth, students can be part of their development. Chinese Tea: A Gift to the World
Some American students are talking about Chinese tea. Alice loves Longjing tea best for its nice smell and taste. She knows tea has a long history. It is said that tea was found by Shennong over 4,000 years ago. Today tea is the world’s most popular drink after water. People can drink it hot or cold anytime.
Jack says tea is becoming more popular in America. Every day, more than 159 million Americans drink tea. In 2023, America bought much tea from other countries. The number is much bigger than 30 years ago.
Alice asks why Chinese tea is so welcome in the West. William thinks globalization (全球化) helps a lot. The world is joined together, so Chinese tea houses open in many Western cities. More people can get close to this old culture.
Susan says health is another key reason. Chinese tea is good for people’s body. It helps digestion (消化) and makes people feel focused. Green tea like Longjing is loved for its healthy parts. This matches today’s love for healthy life.
Carol shares her story. She loved coffee before. Last year, she tried Chinese tea at a school culture festival. The tea ceremony (仪式) made her slow down and enjoy the quiet time. Now she drinks tea every day and tells her friends about it. All of them think Chinese tea is wonderful.
In a world that often moves too fast, Chinese tea offers a peaceful moment. Whether enjoyed alone or shared with friends, each cup carries thousands of years of culture and wisdom. As more people discover this, the love for Chinese tea will only continue to grow.

In a Finnish (芬兰的) middle school classroom, the seventh graders are preparing a full meal. Some are cutting vegetables, others are mixing food materials for dessert. After cooking, they put out the dishes, tidy up the kitchen, and sit down together to eat.
This is home economics (家政课), known locally as kotitalous. In Finland, it is not a subject you can choose freely—it is a mandatory subject for all seventh graders, with three hours of lessons every week. The course teaches useful skills including cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, healthy eating, planning money, and food safety. By eighth and ninth grade, students do more difficult tasks and may pick this class as they like.
But home economics are about more than skills. Students learn to use local and seasonal food, cut down waste, and understand how their decisions change the environment. They work in groups and solve problems together. One student explains, “I think it is necessary for all of us. It gets us ready for independent living, so when we leave home, we will know how to deal with daily life.”
Finland has added practical life skills to its national school plans for over a century. The Finnish school system is special as it balances (平衡) learning skills, actions, and happiness. Students get 85% of scores from class work and homework, with only 15% from a final test. Boys and girls take the same classes, changing old ideas about housework. Boys can cut, mix food, and clean as well as girls.
The classroom is a well-fitted kitchen with four cooking areas, each with two ovens (炉子), two cookers, a dish-washing machine, and even a washing machine and a clothes dryer. Rubbish is put into four boxes for plastic, metal, paper and food waste. By the time Finnish students finish school, they are not just full of knowledge—they are able to make meals, keep their homes and work with others.
7. How does the author introduce the topic of home economics in Finland?
A. By comparing it with other school subjects in Finland.
B. By listing all the skills students will learn in the course.
C. By describing a real classroom example to draw the reader in.
8. What does the underlined word “mandatory” in paragraph 2 most probably refer to?
A. 可自由选择学习的。 B. 必须学习的。 C. 太难没人愿意学习的。
9. What is the main purpose of home economics in Finland?
A. To improve only students' cooking skills.
B. To train students to become professional cooks.
C. To help students learn how to live independently.
10. What can be inferred from the last sentence of the passage?
A. Finnish education prepares students for real life.
B. Finnish students prefer cooking to other subjects.
C. Finnish students find it difficult to live on their own.

More than one in three UK teenagers are worried that artificial intelligence (Al) may take their jobs in the future, according to a new survey by BBC Bitesize. The Bitesize Careers Survey 2026 surveyed over 4,500students aged 13 to 16 across the United Kingdom. It found that 36% of them worry that machine work could take away jobs in their chosen nerds. Another 37% believe AI will cut down the number of jobs open to people in the future.
However, there is an interesting paradox (自相矛盾的情况). Although many young people fear AI, they are also ready to use it to help themselves. Two thirds of the teenagers said they would use AI to improve their chances of getting a job. This shows a growing difference between their worry and their confidence in using new technology.
The survey also looked at what jobs teenagers want when they grow up. Traditional careers remain the most popular choices. Doctor continues to top the list, followed by engineer and teacher. Other jobs such as animal doctor, police officer and lawyer also sit high on the list. As for the groups they would most like to work for, the NHS (the UK’s public health service) came out ahead of big tech companies like Google and Apple.
Cerys Griffiths, Head of BBC Bitesize, said: “It’s clear that young people are curious (好奇的) about AI. but they also have serious worries about how it could influence their futures.” (To deal with this, BBC Bitesize has created a free Guide to AI. The guide helps 14 to 19-year-olds understand now AI works, how it is already being used in real jobs, and how to use it safely and in a correct way. It focuses on real-world examples across industries including health, fashion, gaming, and sport. The purpose is to help young people see AI as a helper rather than an opponent (对手) in their future jobs.

And it’s very heartwarming to think that Atlantic salmon can be helped by just a little bit.”
1. Where is this passage most probably taken from?
A. A science textbook about fish.
B. A news report on a school project.
C. A travel guide to national parks in Maine.
2. What can be inferred about the teacher’s main purpose of starting the project?
A. To collect young fish for a local zoo.
B. To help students win a science competition.
C. To give students real-life science experience.

A. Chinese tea is cheaper than all other drinks.

B. To explain how to grow tea in a school garden.
C. To show that coffee is better than tea for busy people.
5. What can we infer from the last paragraph about the author’s view of Chinese tea?
A. The author considers coffee a better choice for relaxation.
B. The author believes Chinese tea offers more than just a drink.
C. The author doubts whether Chinese tea will stay popular.
6. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To compare Chinese tea with coffee in terms of price.
B. To teach readers how to prepare different kinds of tea.
C. To show why Chinese tea is becoming more popular worldwide.

Bringing Art to the Countryside

Xu Honglin, the leader of the project, said, “We hope to change our way from ‘giving blood’ to ‘making blood’.” This famous saying means we do not only offer simple help from cities to rural areas. ____14____ These trained teachers can keep providing great art education for kids in their own communities. In this way, rural art education can develop step by step and last for a long time without continuous help from outside.
This meaningful program tells us a simple truth: good art training can help rural teachers influence countless children’s lives. ____15____ It can start and grow well in every corner of our country, even in quiet and small rural villages.
