Frustrated, I headed to the mall, figuring I get the phone in person. On the way, I passed a tiny pop up repair shop. IT was run by two teams. Curious, I held up my old phone. Its screen was correct, and IT sometimes froze and ask if they could help for just ten bucks. They swapped the broken screen for a recent ycl one when they handed IT back, my broken phone felt brand new. That night, I used my fixed phone to film my little sisters dance. Recycle one small repair saves me hundreds of dollars, and let me hold onto a precious memory. So maybe this black friday taught me something. The real upgrade isn't the newest model. Possible Version 1
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Between the two versions, I highly recommend the first one, “There is no Planet B.”
I prefer this design for two main reasons. Visually, the poster features a crying and sweating Earth, with factory chimneys emitting toxic smoke on its top. It vividly highlights the severe environmental crises we are facing, such as global warming and air pollution. More importantly, the slogan itself is brilliant. By cleverly playing on the phrase “Plan B”, it sends a powerful warning to the public: our planet is irreplaceable, and we have no backup home to escape to. Therefore, we must stop the destruction before it’s too late.
I believe this thought-provoking poster will surely leave a lasting impression on the judges. Best of luck!
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible Version 2
Dear Chris,
Glad to hear you’re participating in the World Earth Day poster contest! Both versions are fantastic, but I favor the second one, “OUR ACTIONS, OUR FUTURE.”
What makes this poster stand out is the perfect combination of its image and slogan. In terms of the image, it presents a hopeful scene where a pair of hands gently holds the Earth. On top of the globe, leafy trees and a bright sun vividly symbolize a green, sustainable future. Moreover, the slogan perfectly matches the drawing. Written entirely in bold capitals, the words create a strong impact, conveying a highly positive message that the destiny of our planet literally lies in our own hands.
I’m sure this inspiring design will shine in the contest and motivate more people to take concrete eco-friendly actions. Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua

Paragraph 1: One day, Emily handed me an application form. I froze, my eyes wide as I took in the official entry for the body - building show. Fear and doubt surged — just months ago, the thought of stepping on a stage would have terrified me. Yet, as I held the paper, I felt something shift inside. Emily’s clam eyes met mine, and she said softy, “You’ve earned this.” Those words, combined with every early morning, every sweaty workout, every disciplined meal I had endured, whispered a quiet truth; I was stronger than I had believed. My trembling hands steadied, and my heart pounded with a new kind of courage. With a deep breath, I signed my name, aware that this act was less about the competition and more about honoring the transformation I had fought for.
Paragraph 2: Her weeks of preparation, the long-awaited day finally came. Waking before dawn, I entered the quiet gym, where only the clatter of weights and Emily's guiding voice filled the space. I pushed past exhaustion, feeling the burn in my muscles not as pain but as a sign of growth, carefully measuring protein, carbs, and fats to fuel each session. Emily corrected my rigid form, timed my breaks, and celebrated every small victory, reminding me that transformation came gradually, step by step. On competition day, standing on stage after months of sweat and discipline, I felt a surge of pride and clarity: strength was not just physical, but also perseverance, courage, and — most importantly — the ability to care for myself, reclaiming both my body and my life one choice at a time.

allows it to process and remember more information. While what is actually happening in the brain when

time seems to expand remains unclear, scientists suspect ii may have something to do with helping the brain process more
information within a limited period of time.
This is especially relevant for the brain's visual system which, subjected to information overload, has to rank in order of
importance.allowing for limited resources Recent research has showed some images are more naturally memorable than
others
To understand how this memorability of an image.along with a few simpler visual features such as scene size and
disorder, might relate to our subjective sense of time.Wiener and bis colleagues conducted related experiments.in which
subjects were shown images with varying duration were asked to categorize whether the length of time on the screen was
either"short!"or"long,he next day they were given a surprise memory test to see which images they recalled seeing.
The researchers found larger scene sizes seemed to extend time while more disorderly scenes seemed to contract it.
Besides the subjects perceived more memorable images as lasting longer even if they were all presented for the same amount
of time.To find the underlying factor, the team fed the same memorability-ranked images to a neural (network
modeled after the brain's visual system and found more memorable images were processed faster.
The explanation for why our brain's faster processing would slow time is that it is increasing the amount of information
the brain can take in at once.Limited resources to process information may act as a sort of bottleneck, which the brain can
widen when it needs to absorb more information, thus extending time.

31.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To contrast sayings with scientific findings.
B.To explain visual features'effect on memory.
C:To describe brain's information overloading in time perception.
D.To explore link between image memorability and subjective time.
It's Sunday evening, and you're reviewing another week of progress on five different goals without truly moving the
needle on any.You worked out twice, read 20 pages of that business book, spent quality time with family, and kept up with
your meditation practice. You're doing everything right according to the productivity experts. So why does meaningful
change feel so difficult to achieve?
The accepted wisdom tells us progress comes from small, consistent changes that accumulate over time.Consistency has
is place. But there's another dimension to transformation we rarely discuss:the catalytic (power of intense
productivity bursts. It's this more intense temporary state of absorption that is key..
Productivity experts often advocate sustainable habits and warn against the dangers of going too hard.Bur neuroscience
reveals something fascinating:Our brains respond strongly to intensity
Our brains are highly malleable;they change, sometimes in dramatic ways.lo reflect new acquisition of skills and
knowledge.Researchers studied London taxi drivers preparing for a test that involved memorizing 75,000 streets. When
examining the brains of these taxi drivers before and after this intensive study period.they discovered something remarkable:
The posterior hippocampus, crucial for spatial navigation, physically enlarges.
This finding points to a broader principle in human neuroscience:Transformation often requires crossing intensity levels
that moderate effort simply can't reach.Al the level of the brain, intense learning looks very different than the
slow, consistent gains we're more familiar with.Research finds that during periods of intense focus, our brains exhibit
transient hypofrontality. The prefrontal cortex()largely responsible for self-monitoring,tends to quiet down,
mirroring what is often seen in"flow states".where the boundary between self and task fades away
Most of us live in maintenance mode We do enough not to lose ground but rarely enough to truly advance Maybe it's
time we stopped feeling guilty about our occasional obsessions and started seeing them for what they are:the catalysts that
make our steady progress meaningful.

Don't Rush Through Books
I love books.I love reading,I do it as much as I can.I tell people they should do the same. But when I hear
that people are using apps to try to read more in less time.I just shake my head.Guys, you're doing it
wrong!Reading is like eating, dating and travelling. The whole point is that it's pleasurable and meaningful.36.
Unfortunately, reading always falls victim to seeking productivity shortcuts.People may rush through books
over dinner table to save ten minutes, but willingly fly across the country for a three-day conference where
nothing gets accomplished.Actually, such an set tends to be penny wise and pound foolish.37.Simply put:
You don't need to squeeze reading into the in-between moments of your life:you need to squeeze out the
non-essentials and make reading,and reading well,the priority.
Once on a flight,I was surrounded by businessmen---the type of people who would say things like rm roo
busy to read".And what were they doing on this flight?Watching videos, texting or chatting.I was the only one
reading. In two and a half hours,I got all the way through the book. But it was not finishing a book that
mattered.38.I he book was about a man's attempt to retrace Coronado's expedition on horseback-I was
transported from that plane to the desert.I was fully engaged.
We have to remember:we don't get a prize at the end of life for having rushed through as many books as
possible.Remember:quality over quantity.Always.39.The time you spend reading them.the time you
carved out and gave to the process-that's what you'll remember at the end of your life. That is the prize.
40.They don't fit it in between other tasks;they make it the priority. And from that, everything

One day, after cleaning up all the mess my kids had made,I went out for a walk.I passed a gym.I
looked away.Healthy people went there, but this was not me.While turning away,I saw an ad for a
six-month fitness challenge.I continued my fast walk in the opposite direction, but that sign just stayed on
my mind.
I still remember what finally motivated me to sign up for the challenge. It was a ten-minute period in
which my son threw his spaghetti plate straight up,sending noodles and sauce flying everywhere. As soon as
my husband got home,I said,"You're in charge.
I made a beeline for the gym, marched straight in and said,"Fix me."And I was assigned a young andfir
trainer,Emily. She asked what my goals were for the six-month challenge.Ai that moment,I was
speechless.Noticing my embarrassment,Emily just handed me the heaviest weights I 'had in my lift and sald,
"Okay,so in six moths you will compete in a body-building show."I tried explaining,"No.I don't want to do a
show. That sounds scary."She ignored my fear, and we jumped into strict workouts and nutrition planning.
Over the next six months.Emily forced me to focus on myself-my wants and my needs.I learned to see
food as strength and sweat as progress.I learned how to fuel my body instead of starving it,balancing
proteins, carbs and fats.Emily pushed me past my limits, correcting my form, timing my breaks, and cheering
me oOwhen I wanted to quit.I improved every day in the gym.
