How to Improve Your Vocabulary?
Vocabulary (词汇) means all the words that a person knows or all of the words of a language. Everyone has two kinds of vocabularies: words you use in your speaking or writing and words you know but don’t use. How can you turn the second one into the first one?
Jun. 162025 20:19 Amanda
We should pay attention to the importance of synonyms. A synonym is a word that has the same meaning as another. If we find we are using boring words, look for interesting synonyms to take the place of them.
Jun. 16,2025 20:24 Julia
I think the most useful way to improve our vocabulary is to use the new words we have discovered. Using these words in conversations is a great way to practice and understand them.
Jun. 16,2025 20:26 Jeff
When we hear someone use a word we don’t know, don’t forget to ask them what it means. It takes just a short time, but it shows that we are listening to them, and we can also improve our own vocabulary.

Five universities in Australia have partnered with 38 other organizations, including NASA, to develop ideas for how to feed astronauts in space. Over the next 20 years, NASA is planning to send humans to the Moon and Mars. It wants to set up a long-lasting base on the Moon, which would mean having to keep astronauts happy and healthy with nutritious (营养的) meals for long periods.
For now, most space food is pre-made like ready meals. Scientists want astronauts to be able to grow fresh food in space, so they can replace their food and have a healthier diet. It could also stop astronauts from getting bored with their diet.
A team at Melbourne University is using robots to grow food. These “farmbots” can plant seeds, keep the plants watered as they grow and harvest them when they are ready to eat. The farmbots can also measure things like temperature and growth. The farmbots have “E-noses”, which can detect the smells given off by the plants. Used with sensors (传感器) in the soil, the technology can work out what the plants need. So far, leafy greens have been the easiest to grow.
The team has also been testing the effect that the foods might have on humans in space, by putting people in reclining (倾斜) chairs. This tricks the body into feeling it is experiencing the “weightless” condition that people get in space. As they eat in this position, people’s physical and emotional (情绪的) responses are recorded.
The scientists want to make the plant-growing process automatic (自动的) on space missions. Professor Sigfredo Fuentes told that it would be like having “a smart fridge in space” where everything, from food to medicines, can be created from plants when needed.
51. According to Paragraph 1, these organizations are studying ________.
A. how to send humans to Mars. B. how to keep astronauts happy.
C. how to feed astronauts in space. D. how to set up a base on the Moon.
52. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?

C. The effect of the food on humans in space. D. The reason for growing fresh food in space.
53. What does the underlined word “detect” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese?
A. 检测 B. 收集 C. 笼罩 D. 消除
54. What is Sigfredo Fuentes’ attitude (态度) towards growing plants in space?
A. Supportive. B. Worried. C. Puzzled. D. Doubtful.
55. What can we learn from the text?
A. Scientists have grown greens in space so far.
B. The farmbots are the robots to help make ready meals.
C. Pre-made meals can stop astronauts from getting bored.
D. It’s possible for astronauts to eat fresh food in space in the future.

You must have heard of “city bu city” (meaning city or not city) an internet buzzword (流行语) created by foreign blogger Baobaoxiong. It’s used to ask if a place feels like a big, fashionable city.
Millions of foreigners like Baobaoxiong are visiting China and posting their travel videos. The visa-free transit policy (过境免签政策) plays an important role in this trend (潮流). Travelers from 54 countries can stay in China for up to six days without a visa as long as they have a travel document (文件) and a connecting ticket (联程机票) to leave.
The visa-free transit policy started in 2013. Back then, it allowed travelers to stay for 72 hours in seven different big cities in China. Now, travelers can stay for 144 hours in 41 places across 19 provincial areas. It has attracted more travelers to China. In the first three months of this year, 266 percent more foreigners came to China through visa-free policies compared with the same period last year, according to the National Immigration Administration of China (国家移民管理局).
________ Through this policy, more and more people get to see the real China. “This is the whole reason why we decided to come to China-we wanted to see exactly what it’s like for ourselves,” said Irish YouTuber Luke in his online video. He thought Chengdu was “unbelievably good, beautiful and modern”, totally different from what he had heard about China from Western media.
Yuyuantantian, a new media account (账号) under China Media Group, looked at 100 China travel videos made by foreigners. It found foreigners used to visit famous spots like the Forbidden City (紫禁城) and the Great Wall. But now they prefer experiencing everyday activities like shopping at markets, riding shared bikes and joining square dancing in parks. These activities give foreigners a closer look at everyday life in China, said Yuyuantantian.
56. What does the National Immigration Administration of China’s data (数据) show?
A. A decrease in the number of foreign visitors.
B. A significant increase in foreigners coming to China because of policy.
C. Most foreigners prefer to stay in China for more than six days.
D. The policy is only popular among certain people.
57. Which one is the best to fill in the blank?
A. Practice makes perfect. B. No pains, no gains.
C. Seeing is believing. D. When in Rome, do as Romans do.
58. How did Luke feel about Chengdu?
A. He thought it was just as he had heard from Western media.
B. He was surprised by its modernity and beauty.
C. He found it not as good as he had expected.
D. He disliked Chengdu.
59. According to the passage why do more foreigners visit China now?
A. They want to follow the internet buzzword “city bu city”.
B. China has become the most fashionable country in the world.
C. They are curious (好奇) about the Western media’s description of China.
D. They are attracted by 144-hour visa-free transit policy.
60. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The popularity of Chinese cities.
B. The influence of the visa-free transit policy.
C. The influence of internet buzzwords on tourism.
D. The experiences of foreign YouTubers in China.

The 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition (中国国际航天航空展览), China’s biggest air show, opened to the public in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, on November 12, 2024. This amazing event attracted over 1,000 companies from 47 countries and regions, showing the latest advancements in military (军事的) technology.
One of the most exciting things at the exhibition was the uncovering of China’s new military technology. For example, China’s own J-20S fighter jet was shown in public at the first time. This is a new type of stealth (隐形的) fighter jet that can fly long distances and carry out many different missions. It is also a double-seater, which means it has two seats for the pilots, making it even more powerful and flexible.
The J-20S is an improvement from China’s previous J-20 fighter jet. It is designed to be even more stealthy, with special materials that reduce its radar signature (雷达信号). It also has new electronic warfare systems, missiles, and radar, which make it better at finding and attacking enemy targets. The J-20S can fly very fast and move around easily, thanks to its new wing and tail designs, as well as a new type of engine (发动机).
Besides the J-20S, China also showed many other amazing aircrafts and weapons at the exhibition. There were drones that can fly high in the sky, unmanned boats that can sail on the ocean, and even the lunar samples that Chang’e-6 collected from the far side of the moon.
The exhibition was not just about showing off new technology. It was also a chance for companies from around the world to come together and learn from each other. Many important deals were made during the event, including a big order for 130 new Chinese-made passenger planes.
61. Where was the exhibition held?
A. In Beijing B. In Chengdu C. In Zhuhai D. In Guangzhou
62. What can we infer from the passage about the J-20S fighter jet?
A. It is mainly used for transporting passengers.
B. It has limited abilities in finding enemy targets.
C. It shows an important improvement in military technology.
D. It is designed for short-distance flights.
63. What was NOT shown at the exhibition?
A. Drones. B. Lunar samples from the near side of the moon.
C. Unmanned boats. D. The lunar samples collected by Chang’e-6.
64. which is the right structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.
65. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. The exhibition only focused on showing off new technology.
B. It's a good chance for companies to learn and communicate.
C. The exhibition was mainly about military technology.
D. Chinese-made passenger planes were not popular at the exhibition.

A. The diet of the astronauts in space. B. The way of growing fresh food in space.

These activities give foreigners a closer look at everyday life in China, said Yuyuantantian.

In a field in England, three little robots have been given a great job: to find and kill grass before planting seeds (种子) in the soil.
____66____ Tom is the first of the three clever robots to start working. He watches the crops (庄稼) carefully and collects the information about each plant. He can create a short introduction to each plant and even make decisions on what chemicals are needed for your crops.
Dick does the dirty work. ____67____ Plants that are good for the crops are left. He can spray (喷洒) things like chemicals in order to keep plants healthy.
Harry is a planter. He digs holes into the field and puts seeds into the ground and records where he puts them. ____68____
The smart robots are made by Small Robot. The British company says farmers could reduce costs by 40% and chemical usage by up to 95%. ____69____ Using less chemicals is going to save much money and is good for the environment. As well as reducing the use of chemicals, robots will bring us better soil quality and more plants and animals.
