The Publish of Harry Potter C Chinese astronauts have successfully grown rice seedlings(幼苗)aboard the Tiangong space station and this experiment may offer key insights into how astronauts can grow food to support long—term space missions experts said on Monday. This experiment is the first to produce the complete life cycle of the plant, which begins with a seed and ends with a mature plant producing new seeds. The breakthrough was conducted in the Wentian space laboratory, which was launched into orbit on July 24, 2022. Three astronauts were conducting the experiment smoothly and testing the plants according to the plan. “The rice seedlings are growing very well,” said Zheng Huiqiong, a researcher of the task, adding that the experiment also contained seedlings of a small flowering plant often used by scientists to study mutations(变异). “The astronauts will keep monitoring the plants, and if it is successful, they will collect the newly produced seeds and bring them back to Earth for further studies,” she noted The flowering stage is crucial for plant reproductive development. “We want to investigate how microgravity can affect the plant flowering time and whether it is possible to use the microgravity environment to control the related process,” she said. Since the 1980s, China has been taking seeds of rice and other crops to space to help them mutate and produce higher yields once they were planted on Earth. But growing rice in orbit is a different challenge due to the tough conditions of space such as microgravity and lack of air. Rice has been a main food for astronauts since the early days of space exploration. Freeze—dried chicken and rice was the menu for the Apollo 11 mission, which carried the first humans to land on the moon in July 1969. “But if we want to land on and explore Mars, bringing food from Earth is not enough to provide for the astronauts’ long journey and mission in space. We have to find a food source for long term space explorations,” Zheng added. 8. What’s the significance of Chinese recent space rice experiment? A. It enables human beings to move to another planet. B. It helps people get a better idea of the human life cycle. C. It inspires more other countries to do space explorations D. It makes it possible to carry out long—term space missions 9. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. The mutation. B. The experiment. C. The exploration. D. The space mission. 10. Why have crop seeds been brought to space since the last century? A. To promote genetic changes and increase crop harvest. B. To figure out how to create an earth—like environment. C. To study the impact of microgravity on crop growth. D. To develop new crop species with strong ability to adapt. 11. Where is the text most probably from? A. A medical report. B. A fashion magazine. C. A science newspaper. D. A history book. D A new course on world heritage and its conservation offers a good opportunity for the young people to learn about the legacy (遗产) of humanity and gain a sense of responsibility to help protect the planet we live on. According to a world heritage education programme jointly launched by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and China’s Ministry of Education, the course will first be offered at several schools in Beijing before being included as a mandatory course (必修课) for high school students nationwide. The new course covers photos, slide shows and documentaries on the magnificence of the world heritage sites. The class aims to tell children what world heritage is and why and how it should be protected. A total of 177 nations, including China, have signed the Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage. Listed are 754 sites all over the world, of which 29 are in China — the third most after Spain and Italy. Currently, protection of the country’s cultural and natural resources leaves much to be desired. Education is undoubtedly the best way to cultivate people’s sense for protecting cultural and natural resources. The introduction of such a programme in Chinese classrooms will certainly help our young people realize the significance of common heritage, learning about world heritage sites, the history and traditions of different cultures, ecology, and the importance of protecting biological and cultural diversity. More importantly, it will help cultivate a sense of responsibility in the minds of young participants. This is critical in protecting these cultural and natural legacies, as well as our living environment and the limited resources for sustainable development. 12. What’s the author’s attitude towards this new course? A. Approving B. Neutral C. Objective D. Disapproving 13. The underlined word “cultivate” in the third paragraph probably means ______. A. distribute B. exploit C. develop D. improvise 14. What can you expect to learn at the class? A. What world heritage is. B. Why we should protect world heritage. C. How world heritage should be protected. D. All of the above. 15. Which of the statements is TRUE according to the passage? A. The world heritage education programme was jointly launched by the United States and China’s Ministry of Education. B. The course will first be offered at all the schools in Beijing. C. Protection of the country’s cultural and natural resources has been perfect thanks to people’s efforts. D. All she knew was that he was very sick and they didn't have money for the doctor's bills. Only a very costly operation could save him. She heard Daddy say to Mommy sadly, "Only a miracle can save him now." Tess went to her bedroom and pulled out her piggy bank. She poured all the change out and counted it carefully. No chance here for mistakes. Carefully placing the coins back, she secretly went out the back door and ran to the drugstore in a comer. She waited patiently for the chemist to give her some attention but he was too busy. So she took a quarter from her piggy bank and hit it hard on the counter. That did it! "And what do you want?" the chemist asked in an angry voice. "I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages." “Well I want to talk to you about my brother. He's really, really sick... and I want to buy a miracle.” Tess replied. “I beg your pardon?” said the chemist. “My brother has something bad growing inside his head and Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?” “We don't sell miracles here. I'm sorry but I can't help you,” the chemist said, softening a little. “Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.” The chemist's brother was a well-dressed man. He came over and asked Tess, "What kind of a miracle does your brother need?” “I don't know,” Tess replied with her eyes welling up. “I just know he's really sick and needs an operation. But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money.” “How much do you have?” asked the well-dressed man. “One dollar and eleven cents,” Tess answered in a low voice. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 “Well, what a coincidence,” smiled the man. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The operation was completed for free. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 华师希平双语高级中学2023-2024学年下学期高一第二次月考 英语试题 (满分:150分;考试时间:120分钟) 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. While ____44____ (stay) in orbit, the crew will carry out various experiments and perform two long-duration spacewalks, ____45____ will enable the China Manned Space Agency to accumulate (积累) experience to prepare for the future construction of the space station. 故填was launched。 故填which。 第四部分 写作(满分40分) 第一节(满分15分) 46. 假如你是李华,上周五你校就“庆祝节日是否有意义”展开了一场主题辩论。请你写一篇议论文来介绍辩论情况。内容包括: 1. 正方观点; 2. 反方观点; 3. 你的个人观点。 注意: 1. 写作词数应为80左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Is celebrating festivals meaningful? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Is celebrating festivals meaningful? Last Friday, our school held a debate on whether celebrating festivals is meaningful. The pros agree that celebrating festivals helps pass on traditional culture and gives families a chance to get together, strengthening our relationships. However, the cons think it is a waste of time and money. Many people overspend or even compare with each other during festivals. In my opinion, advantages outweigh disadvantages. If we celebrate festivals in a proper way, it is really meaningful for both our culture and personal life. 【解析】 【导语】题目要求学生写一篇议论文来介绍学校举办的主题辩论的情况,应先引入辩论背景,再分别陈述正反双方观点,最后给出个人结论。 【详解】1. 词汇积累 机会:chance→opportunity 团聚:get together→unite, come together, gather together 加强:strengthen→enhance, reinforce 大于,超过:outweigh→surpass, exceed 2. 句式拓展 简单句变复合句 原句:In my opinion, advantages outweigh disadvantages. 拓展句:I hold the belief that advantages outweigh disadvantages. 【点睛】[高分句型1] Last Friday, our school held a debate on whether celebrating festivals is meaningful. (运用了whether引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] If we celebrate festivals in a proper way, it is really meaningful for both our culture and personal life. (运用了If引导条件状语从句) 第二节(满分25分) 47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 Tess was a five-year-old when she heard her Mom and Dad talking about her little brother, Andrew. "I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages." “Well, I want to talk to you about my brother. “Well, what a coincidence,” smiled the man. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The operation was completed for free. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Para 1: “Well, what a coincidence,” smiled the man. “One dollar and eleven cents. That is the exact price of a miracle for your little brother.” He took her money in one hand and said, “Now, take me to your home. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need.” The well-dressed man happened to be a famous doctor. After carefully examined the little child, he helped the parents send the sick boy to the city’s best hospital, where he performed an operation on him. Para 2: The operation was completed for free. It wasn't long before Andrew was home again and doing well. Great joy filled in the poor house again. The parents couldn’t thank the doctor enough. They simply couldn’t believe what had happened to their boy and the whole family. Mom just kept saying, “That operation was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost.” Tess smiled brightly. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost—one dollar and eleven cents, plus the love of a little girl. 词汇激活 行为类 检查:examine/ inspect 回家:be home/return home 免费:for free / free of charge 情绪类 出名的:famous /noted 快乐:joy / happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] After carefully examined the little child, he helped the parents send the sick boy to the city’s best hospital, where he performed an operation on him. (运用了where引导非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] They simply couldn’t believe what had happened to their boy and the whole family.
