Ever since my childhood, I have been hearing people talking about Rome. Last month, I finally had the chance to visit it. I spent three busy days there, seeing tourist attractions and walking down streets lit by Christmas decorations. There are so many things I love about the city.
Rome is one of the most ancient cities in the world and is full of wonderful relics from its long past. These include the vast Coliseum (竞技场) where gladiators used to fight each other until death and hunt animals coming from another country. The ruins of buildings and temples are fascinating: you can’t quite believe how old they are.
I studied the masterpieces of the Renaissance at university and was very excited to see them in real life. I walked around the museum in the Vatican and saw plenty of famous sculptures. The best part of the visit was, without doubt, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted in the early 16th century by Michelangelo. It was so breathtaking that I couldn’t tear my eyes away from it.
In Rome, there is a lot of food on offer for tourists but some of it isn’t of very good quality. I made an effort to find reliable restaurants to taste the popular meals of the region, like pasta with tomato, onion and bacon. I also loved eating ice cream and hot chocolate under the Christmas lights.
Rome has not only lots of luxury boutiques (精品店) but also plenty of shops that are more in my price range! It was a perfect opportunity to go and buy presents for my family and friends. There was also a Christmas market, where I bought a sparkly decoration for the tree.
24. What does the underlined word “gladiators” mean in the second paragraph?
A. Fighters. B. Butchers(屠夫). C. Soldiers. D. Athletes.
25. Why did the author think the ruins of buildings and temples fascinating?
A. They represent Rome’s religion. B. They are well decorated on Christmas.
C. They are relics with a long history. D. They include the famous vast Coliseum.
26. What should you be careful in choosing while visiting Rome?
A. The attractions. B. The luxury shops. C. The hotels. D. The food.
27. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A travel diary. B. A realistic novel. C. A news report. D. A science fiction.
C
“Long time no see.” is a very interesting sentence. When I first read this sentence from an American friend’s e-mail, I laughed. I thought it was a perfect example of Chinglish.
Obviously, it is a word-by-word translation of the Chinese greeting with wrong English grammar and structure! Later on, my friend told me that it is a standard American greeting. I was too surprised to believe her. Her words were unbelievable at all. So I did research on Google.com. Though it is sort of informal, it is part of the language that Americans use daily.
Nobody knows the origin of this Chinglish sentence. Some people believe that it came from Charlie Chan’s movies. In the 1930s, Hollywood movie makers successfully created a worldwide famous Chinese detective (侦探) named “Charlie Chan” on wide screens. Detective Chan liked to teach Americans some Chinese wisdom by quoting Confucius. “Long time no see.” was his symbol. Soon after Charlie Chan, “Long time no see.” became a popular expression in America thanks to the popularity of these movies.
Some scholars compare America to a huge melting pot. All kinds of cultures are mixed in the pot together, and they change the colour and taste of each other. Language is usually the first thing to be influenced in the mixed pot.
You can have some examples from other countries, such as pizza from Italian, sushi from Japanese, and déjà vu from French etc. There is a long list! Since Americans admire Chinese culture more and more nowadays, I believe more Chinese words will become American English in the future. In this way, the American’s melting pot keeps adding richness and flavour.
28. What did the writer himself feel surprised at?
A. Word-by-word translations in America.
B. The Chinglish expression “Long time no see.”
C. “Long time no see.” used by Americans every day.
D. “Long time no see.” used as a standard American English greeting.
29. What can be inferred according to paragraph 3?
A. All kinds of languages are affected by nature.
B. Hollywood made “Long time no see.” popular.
C. Cultures can’t be changed in the huge melting pot.
D. American detectives translated the phrase “Long time no see.”
30. What’s the author’s attitude to the American’s mixed pot?
A. Opposed. B. Curious. C. Worried. D. Neutral.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Chinese expressions are introduced into English.
B. The melting pot is the symbol of American culture.
C. Some American expressions can be used in China.
D. American English keeps being enriched by different cultures.
D
Understanding how stereotypes (刻板印象) shape human behavior has long depended on surveys asking people to describe their feelings toward social groups. However, these traditional methods often fail to uncover hidden truths, as participants may hide their real prejudices to appear socially acceptable. This gap in research calls for innovative approaches to capture genuine emotional reactions.
To address this, scientists have combined virtual reality (VR) with neuroscience. In a recent study, Finnish participants entered immersive VR environments where avatars (虚拟人物) from different cultural backgrounds (e.g. Somali, Brazilian) gradually approached them. During these encounters, brain scans (fMRI) recorded real-time neural activity. Unlike traditional surveys, VR creates lifelike social interactions, allowing researchers to observe instinctive reactions unaffected by social filters.
The study revealed two critical findings. First, stereotypes were shaped by two factors: warmth (friendliness) and competence (ability). Avatars viewed as competent but unfriendly triggered envy, while those seen as lacking both qualities caused discomfort or dislike. Second, physical distance played a major role in affecting emotions. Initial reactions were guided by existing stereotypes, but as avatars moved closer, negative emotions grew stronger — especially toward groups perceived as threatening. Even in a virtual space, closeness from an “outsider” could feel unsettling.
The research highlights key insights. It reveals stereotypes aren’t mere abstract concepts but are closely linked to emotional responses. Significantly, VR emerges as an effective tool for examining prejudices in controlled, lifelike environments. Furthermore, the study suggests VR’s potential to reduce prejudice by simulating cooperative interactions. By repeatedly exposing users to positive cross-group experiences, researchers propose that VR could gradually reshape negative perceptions, fostering familiarity and reducing threat responses.
32. What is the main limitation of traditional surveys in studying stereotypes?
A. They consume too much time. B. They focus on unimportant details.
C. They require advanced technology. D. They fail to capture genuine responses.
33. How did scientists conduct the study?
A. By analyzing participants’ facial expressions.
B. By conducting interviews about cultural stereotypes.
C. By observing reactions in VR environments with fMRI scans.
D. By measuring physical distances between avatars and participants.
34. What can be learned from the study according to paragraph 3?
A. Incompetent but friendly avatars stirred up envy.
B. Initial reactions focused on cultural backgrounds.
C. Distance reduced discomfort from unfamiliar groups.
D. Closeness increased negative emotions toward threats.
35. What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A. Practical uses of VR against bias.
B. Technical innovations in VR research.
C. Long-term effects of virtual interactions.
D. Psychological roots of emotional prejudices.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lily was a high school student who loved comparing herself with others. She always cared about the latest clothes, expensive phones, and designer bags. Whenever someone showed off a new item, she would feel jealous (嫉妒的) and want to buy something better. Her parents often told her, “True value isn’t in what you own,” but she never listened.
One day, Lily noticed a girl from another class whose name was Coco. Coco’s family was wealthy, but she always wore simple clothes and carried an old schoolbag. Unlike Lily, Coco never joined the students’ discussions about brands or prices. Instead, she spent her time helping classmates with math problems or volunteering in the school library. Her grades were always at the top of the class, and everyone respected (尊重) her.
Lily couldn’t understand why Coco didn’t care about material things. One afternoon, Lily saw Coco sitting alone under a tree, reading a book. She decided to talk to her. “Why don’t you buy nicer things?” Lily asked. “Your family has enough money.” Coco looked up with a smile. “I’d rather spend money on things that matter,” she said. “Like helping others or buying books.”
That night, Lily thought about Coco’s words. She realized that she had been looking for things that didn’t bring real happiness. The next day, she made a decision: she would stop comparing herself with others and start focusing on what was truly meaningful.

Ever since my childhood,I have been hearing people talking about Rome.Last month,I finally had the chance to visit
it.I spent three busy days there, seeing tourist attractions and walking down streets lit by Christmas decorations. There are
so many things I love about the city
Rome is one of the most ancient cities in the world and is full of wonderful relics from its long past. These include the
vast Coliseum where gladiators used to fight each other until death and hunt animals coming from another
country. The ruins of buildings and temples are fascinating:you can't quite believe how old they are.
I studied the masterpieces of the Renaissance at university and was very excited to see them in real life.I walked
around the museum in the Vatican and saw plenty of famous sculptures. The best part of the visit was, without doubt, the
Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted in the early 16th century by Michelangelo. It was so breathtaking that I couldn't tear my eyes
away from it.
In Rome, there is a lot of food on offer for tourists but some of it isn't of very good quality.I made an effort to find
reliable restaurants to taste the popular meals of the region, like pasta with tomato, onion and bacon.I also loved eating ice
cream and hot chocolate under the Christmas lights.
Rome has not only lots of luxury boutiques (but also plenty of shops that are more in my price range! It was a

sparkly decoration for the tree.

"Long time no see."is a very interesting sentence. When I first read this sentence from an American friend's e-mail,I
laughed.I thought it was a perfect example of Chinglish.
Obviously,it is a word-by-word translation of the Chinese greeting with wrong English grammar and structure!Later
on,my friend told me that it is a standard American greeting.I was too surprised to believe her.Her words were
unbelievable at all.So I did research on Google.com.Though it is sort of informal,it is part of the language that Americans
use daily.
Nobody knows the origin of this Chinglish sentence. Some people believe that it came from Charlie Chan's movies. In
the 1930s,Hollywood movie makers successfully created a worldwide famous Chinese detective (named"Charlie
Chan"on wide screens.Detective Chan liked to teach Americans some Chinese wisdom by quoting Confucius."Long time
no see."was his symbol.Soon after Charlie Chan,"Long time no see."became a popular expression in America thanks to
the popularity of these movies.
Some scholars compare America to a huge melting pot.All kinds of cultures are mixed in the pot together, and they
change the colour and taste of each other.Language is usually the first thing to be influenced in the mixed pot.
You can have some examples from other countries, such as pizza from Italian, sushi from Japanese, and deja vu from
French etc. There is a long list!Since Americans admire Chinese culture more and more nowadays,I believe more Chinese
words will become American English in the future. In this way,the American's melting pot keeps adding richness and
flavour.
28.What did the writer himself feel surprised at?
A.Word-by-word translations in America.
B.The Chinglish expression"Long time no see."
C."Long time no see."used by Americans every day.
D."Long time no see."used as a standard American English greeting.
29.What can be inferred according to paragraph 3?
A.All kinds of languages are affected by nature.
B.Hollywood made“Long time no see.”popular.
C.Cultures can't be changed in the huge melting pot.
D.American detectives translated the phrase"Long time no see."
30.What's the author's attitude to the American's mixed pot?
A.Opposed.
B.Curious.
C.Worried.
D.Neutral.
第3页(共8页)
31.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Chinese expressions are introduced into English.
B.The melting pot is the symbol of American culture.
C.Some American expressions can be used in China.
D.American English keeps being enriched by different cultures.

Understanding how stereotypes()shape human behavior has long depended on surveys asking people to
describe their feelings toward social groups. However, these traditional methods often fail to uncover hidden truths,as
participants may hide their real prejudices to appear socially acceptable. This gap in research calls for innovative
approaches to capture genuine emotional reactions.
To address this, scientists have combined virtual reality (VR)with neuroscience. In a recent study,Finnish participants
entered immersive VR environments where avatars (from different cultural backgrounds (e.g.Somali,Brazilian)
gradually approached them.During these encounters,brain scans(fMRI)recorded real-time neural activity.Unlike
traditional surveys,VR creates lifelike social interactions, allowing researchers to observe instinctive reactions unaffected
by social filters.
The study revealed two critical findings.First, stereotypes were shaped by two factors:warmth(friendliness)and
competence (ability).Avatars viewed as competent but unfriendly triggered envy, while those seen as lacking both qualities
caused discomfort or dislike.Second, physical distance played a major role in affecting emotions.Initial reactions were
guided by existing stereotypes, but as avatars moved closer, negative emotions grew stronger-especially toward groups
perceived as threatening.Even in a virtual space, closeness from an"outsider"could feel unsettling.
The research highlights key insights. It reveals stereotypes aren't mere abstract concepts but are closely linked to
emotional responses.Significantly,VR emerges as an effective tool for examining prejudices in controlled, lifelike
environments.Furthermore, the study suggests VR's potential to reduce prejudice by simulating cooperative interactions.
By repeatedly exposing users to positive cross-group experiences, researchers propose that VR could gradually reshape
negative perceptions, fostering familiarity and reducing threat responses.
32.What is the main limitation of traditional surveys in study ing stereotypes?
A.They consume too much time.
B.They focus on unimportant details
C.They require advanced technology.
D.They fail to capture genuine responses.
33.How did scientists conduct the study?
A.By analyzing participants'facial expressions.
B.By conducting interviews about cultural stereotypes.
C.By observing reactions in VR environments with fMRI scans.
D.By measuring phy sical distances between avatars and participants
34.What can be learned from the study according to paragraph 3?
A.Incompetent but friendly avatars stirred up envy.
第4页(共8页)
B.Initial reactions focused on cultural backgrounds
C.Distance reduced discomfort from unfamiliar groups.
D.Closeness increased negative emotions toward threats.
35.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Practical uses of VR against bias.
B.Technical innovations in VR research.
C.Long-term effects of virtual interactions.
D.Psychological roots of emotional prejudices

Lily was a high school student who loved comparing herself with others. She always cared about the latest clothes,
expensive phones, and designer bags.Whenever someone showed off a new item, she would feel jealous and want
to buy something better. Her parents often told her,True value isn't in what you own,"but she never listened.
One day,Lily noticed a girl from another class whose name was Coco.Coco's family was wealthy, but she always
wore simple clothes and carried an old schoolbag.Unlike Lily,Coco never joined the students'discussions about brands or
prices.Instead, she spent her time helping classmates with math problems or volunteering in the school library. Her grades
were always at the top of the class, and everyone respected (her.
Lily couldn't understand why Coco didn't care about material things. One afternoon,Lily saw Coco sitting alone under
a tree,reading a book.She decided to talk to her."Why don't you buy nicer things?Lily asked."Your family has enough
money."Coco looked up with a smile."I'd rather spend money on things that matter,"she said."Like helping others or
buying books.”
That night,Lily thought about Coco's words. She realized that she had been looking for things that didn't bring real
happiness. The next day,she made a decision:she would stop comparing herself with others and start focusing on what was
truly meaningful.

My Views on AI-Driven Mental Health Support on Campus
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, whether to use AI for mental health support at school has attracted much attention. As far as I’m concerned, the benefits of using AI as a helper far outweigh the possible risks.
For one thing, AI offers immediate, around-the-clock access, which is particularly crucial for providing instant support during moments of anxiety, like late at night. For another, shy students don’t have to face real people, so they won’t be judged and can speak their hearts out.
In conclusion, bringing AI into school mental health care is a wise choice that will benefit all the students.
67.【答案】范文
The following week, Lily began to learn from Coco. She started by organizing her own bookshelf, donating clothes she seldom wore to charity, and spending more time reading in the library. Gradually, she found joy in helping others too. When a classmate struggled with English, Lily offered to study together after school. She even joined Coco in the library volunteer team. Instead of checking social media for the latest trends, she now looked for opportunities to make a difference. Her parents noticed the change — she talked less about buying things and more about what she had learned or who she had helped. One afternoon, while walking home, Lily realized she hadn’t compared herself to anyone all week. For the first time, she felt truly content.
Months later, teachers and classmates all praised Lily. Not only had her grades improved noticeably, but she had also become one of the most kind-hearted and respected students in school. During a class meeting, her teacher mentioned Lily’s transformation as an example of “real growth.” Coco smiled at her from across the room, and Lily knew she had finally understood what her parents meant by “true value.” It wasn’t about what you had, but who you became. Lily still liked pretty things, but now she valued kindness, knowledge, and generosity far more. She had learned that happiness comes not from having more, but from being more — for yourself and for others.

W: Do you know today is National Puzzle Day? It’s celebrated on January 29th every year, which is the perfect day to do some brain exercises. I’m sure all age groups across the world have worked on puzzles on the back of a magazine or on dictionary websites. Puzzles come in different forms and kinds, such as jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. ⑱Puzzles help in keeping our brains working and developing our social skills. So it makes perfect sense to celebrate National Puzzle Day. National Puzzle Day was established by Jodi Jill in 2002 to share her love for puzzles with everyone. Jodi Jill is a professional puzzle maker. Jodi Jill has been involved in the development of lesson plans for classrooms to improve students’ powers of observation. On this day, you can invite your friends to figure out interesting puzzles. You can even make new friends. If you are bored with solving problems, why not create your own puzzles? ⑲Arthur Wynne, a journalist from Liverpool, created the modern crossword puzzle. His first puzzle appeared in the New York World on December 21st, 1913.
