As a teenager, you are to go through many changes. Your body starts to grow quickly; school becomes more challenging with harder subjects and more homework. Maybe you will have some bad feelings. You might feel worried, unsure (不确定), stressed and upset.
The bad feelings may lead to mental (心理的) health problems. Therefore, it’s essential (必要的) to pay attention to teenage development. Then, how can teenagers deal with the growing pains?
①Speak up. Keeping your feelings to yourself is bad for your health: So be brave to express what’s in your mind. ②Self-care helps too. Try simple things like sitting quietly and focusing on your breathing for a few minutes. ③Build your “superhero team”. Building a support team is about having people you can truly trust, like your family and friends.
Beyond (除……之外) these easy self-help steps, outside support can’t be ignored (忽视). Jordyn was about to turn eight years old when her mom suggested a new way to celebrate her birthday—donating her gifts to a children’s hospital.
At first, Jordyn wasn’t sure. But quickly she made the decision because she thought that she had already had everything she needed, but these kids were having a difficult time in the hospital—they needed more.
Years passed. Now Jordyn is a freshman in high school. She continues doing this to help children with serious illnesses. In April this year, she made her eighth annual (年度的) birthday-gift donation to Baptist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Jordyn’s efforts have also encouraged her friends. They thought of some gift-giving ideas. For the young patients, gifts might include toy trains. And for the teenagers, they might be books.

It can be terrible to be stuck (困于) in a lift. Some people who have such an experience may be afraid to use a lift again. It’s important to know what to do when you are in trouble with a lift.
Firstly, take deep breaths. Don’t shout out. Too many worries will make you too afraid to think clearly. Believe that everything will be okay and that help will come soon.
Secondly, use the call button inside the lift to let people outside know you are stuck in the lift. There is usually a picture of a phone on the call button. It is easy to find. If the call button doesn’t work, try to find the emergency number and use your mobile phone to call for help.
Thirdly, putting up information online is also a good idea to allow more people to know you are in need of help. If help doesn’t come, knock on the door to get attention from other people in the building.
Fourthly, don’t move all the time and try to relax. Even if the workers have known your situation, it may take them a long time to solve the problem. You should keep still and relax yourself as much as possible, or you will make yourself tired out. Try to keep yourself fine before the door is open.
