Feng Peiyou was born in a mountain village in Guizhou. At first, he never thought that he had a talent for running. Many boys from the mountains ran well, and he was only a little faster than most of them.
In the autumn of 2016, 14-year-old Feng entered Zunyi Sports School. After two years of hard work, he joined the Guizhou provincial team. There, he had strict training: morning exercises, afternoon running, and night strength training. At first, it was hard for him to get used to it. He often felt sick after long and tiring running practices.
In 2021, Feng took part in his first official marathon (马拉松) in Huai’an, Jiangsu, and he got second place. At the 2023 Wuxi Marathon, he finished in 2:09:21. He became the first Chinese athlete born after 2000 to run a marathon in under 2:10:00. He found his weak points in races, so he did special training to become stronger. This helped him make many big breakthroughs (突破). At the 2025 Shanghai Marathon, he was the top Chinese runner. Later that year, he won two more races.
On March 1, 2026, at the Tokyo Marathon, 24-year-old Feng ran in 2:05:58. He set a new national record. He was the first Chinese runner to finish a marathon in under 2:06:00. It took him 10 years of hard training to show that talent alone cannot bring success.

In old China, how many meals people ate each day was not always the same. It depended on farm work, how strong the country was, people’s ways of life and so on.
Before and during the Qin and Han times, most people ate two meals a day. They did not have enough food because farm work was poor. Usually, one meal was eaten between 7 and 9 AM, and the other was eaten between 3 and 5 PM. The morning meal was the big one. Still, at that time, some rich people had three meals a day. But this was not common.
Three meals a day became common during the Sui and Tang times. At that time, the country was stronger and farm work was better. The midday meal became the big one. Many famous writers, such as Bai Juyi and Jia Dao, used the word “lunch” in their works.
The number of meals someone ate also depended on their place in society and their group’s ways. For example, emperors of the Han times had four meals a day. However, emperors of the Qing times had only two. They were from a special group of people. Two meals a day was the way of this group.
In short, meals in old China were not always the same. From two meals to four, changes in farm work, society, and old ways all played a part. Learning about these habits helps us know how people lived in the past.
31.Why did most people eat two meals a day before and during Qin and Han times?

According to scientists, a lake with a round shape (形状) is very common. However, Kingsley Lake in Florida, the USA, makes them very surprised.
Kingsley Lake is one of the best fishing places in Florida, but few people know what really makes this place special. It’s an unusually round shape. The lake is considered the roundest lake in the world. In fact, we can only see how round the lake is from the air.
What caused Kingsley Lake to have this special shape? Some people think human beings have changed the structure (结构) of Kingsley Lake so that it is unusually round. However, in fact, this lake is completely free from human activities. It is believed to have formed naturally. It also appears that the lake is the result of the movement of rocks, which gave the present shape of Kingsley Lake.
Kingsley Lake has a diameter (直径) of about 3.2 kilometres. It is 53.7 metres above sea level, which makes Kingsley Lake one of the highest lakes in Florida. Kingsley Lake is about 27.4 metres deep and it is also considered one of Florida’s deepest lakes.
According to the survey, Kingsley Lake has an unchanging water level because of its surface drainage (排水) system. This system helps the floodwater easily run from the lake to the areas around. What’s more, the lake has many shallow (浅的) water areas, so it can be filled with water again in no time, creating the balance of the water in the lake.
Kingsley Lake is now a famous tourist destination in the summer. Each year, it attracts about 120,000 tourists. It also provides a home for a lot of endangered animals.
36.Why do scientists feel surprised when they see Kingsley Lake?
A.Because it looks so beautiful. B.Because it is a good fishing place.
C.Because it is a tourist destination. D.Because it has quite a round shape.
37.How can we see the shape of the lake clearly?
A.By taking a plane. B.By using a camera.
C.By walking around it. D.By crossing it in a boat.
38.What’s Paragraph 3 mainly about?

2.When ________ parents went away on business, I looked after ________.
A.my; myself B.my; mine C.me; myself D.me; mine

A.habit B.style C.method D.custom
【答案】C
【详解】句意:这种新的耕作方法极大地提高了水稻的产量。

5.When the temperature reaches 100℃, the water starts ______.
A.boiling B.melting C.freezing D.burning
【答案】A
【详解】句意:当温度达到 100 摄氏度时,水开始沸腾。

A.will B.would C.has D.had
【答案】B
【详解】句意:他说他一收到工资就会捐款给救灾基金。

A.that B.when C.what D.who
【答案】B

考查宾语从句。when何时;where哪儿。分析句子可知,此句为宾语从句,应该用陈述句语序,排除AC;根据“Tibet.”可知,此处对地点询问,用where引导宾语从句。故选B。

A.Let me have a look. B.That’s the problem.
C.That sounds wonderful! D.Come this way.
