后文出现“Something is biting her foot”,biting表示叮咬,符合语境。
前文“They helped me sit down and were about to take off my shoes.”
stand此处意为“忍受”,can’t stand doing sth.

I’m Patrick McCarthy, and you can call me Pat. This is the space where I can help you with your daily life. Go ahead and ask away!
Dear Patrick,
Every time I look through my phone, I see someone having the time of their life. When I miss out on something fun or important that my friends are experiencing, I feel worried. How can I avoid this?
Sarah
Hi! Sarah,
This is a big reason why so many people worry about social media’s influence on teenagers. Feeling worried and lonely as a result of looking through your phone is quite normal, even if it is unhealthy.
Quite a lot of people post their pictures or videos on social media. Most of them share the best parts of their lives. You must keep in mind that they do so to share good feelings with others. It’s hard to find people sharing their bad moments, like feeling stressed about their home life or shame after failing a test.
If seeing these videos and photos still causes bad feelings, stop connecting for a while. Do something that makes you pleased and relaxed. Try to read or spend some time with your family. You don’t need to impress anyone else.
Pat

During the 2021 Shanghai Fashion Week, a young, slim and confident model with a steel leg drew everyone’s attention. Her name is Niu Yu. She lost her right leg in the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. She was only 11 years old then.
Niu Yu used to be in the school sports team. She loved running. But the disaster broke her dream. She had to live with an artificial leg. It wasn’t comfortable, and her leg often bled. People’s curious eyes made her even more uncomfortable. She always tried to hide her leg under jeans or dresses.
With the support of her family and friends, Niu Yu slowly came out from the shadows. In 2018, right before her 21st birthday, she decided not to hide her leg any longer. To her surprise, she received lots of encouraging words. She also finished a half marathon in about 4 hours. She completed the hard 10-year journey of finding herself again.
Now Niu Yu puts her experiences on social media. She listens to disaster survivors and encourages them to look forward. In 2023, she carried the torch (火炬) at the FISU World University Games. “It is a great honour for me,” she said. “But it is also a good chance to show people the power of being brave.”
A disaster can bring wounds and pain. But we should always face them with courage. As the writer Nora Ephron once said, “Above all, be the hero of your life, not the victim (受害者).”

根据“In 2018, right before her 21st birthday, she decided not to hide her leg any longer.”

From time to time, you may suffer from being overwhelmed You may feel disappointed, sad, hurt or even helpless. Dealing with such feelings doesn’t come easy. Here is some advice to help you.
Know your feelings. It can be hard sometimes to find the right words to express what you’re feeling. The Feelings Wheel can help. Start from the inside and move out. Recognize your primary feeling in the middle of the wheel, and then see what other feelings this connects with as you look outwards from the center. This can help you get clear about what you’re feeling.
Accept what you feel. It is okay to feel lonely; it is okay to feel nervous; and it is okay to feel as if the world is going to end. It is quite natural when humans are facing stress. There’s nothing wrong with you feeling this way. Many of us do too, at different points in our lives.
Make a list. Sometimes you may feel overwhelmed when you have too many things to do. Perhaps there is too much to study, or you may have a long to-do list when organizing a birthday party. Write down the things that need to get done. Then, list the tasks in order of importance or urgency. You will feel calmer when you finish the list—you would have control over the tasks and yourself
Learning to manage overwhelming feelings takes time and practice. Be in touch with yourself. Learn what works best for you. You only have one YOU!
28. What can help you express your feelings clearly according to the passage?
A. Making a to-do list in order. B. Using the Feelings Wheel. C. Accepting all your feelings.
29. Why does the writer say it’s okay to have bad feelings?
A. Because everyone may feel like this when facing stress.
B. Because bad feelings will disappear by themselves soon.
C. Because making a list can take away all bad feelings.
30. What does the underlined word “urgency” probably mean?
A. Difficulty. B. Influence. C. Need to act immediately.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Managing overwhelming feelings is easy for everyone.
B. We can find the best way to deal with bad feelings by practicing.
C. We don’t need to care about our feelings if they are overwhelming.
B 29. A 30. C 31. B
根据第二段“The Feelings Wheel can help…This can help you get clear about what you’re feeling.”
根据第三段“It is quite natural when humans are facing stress. There’s nothing wrong with you feeling this way.”
根据最后一段“Learning to manage overwhelming feelings takes time and practice...Learn what works best for you.”
Language changes all the time. New words and phrases appear and grow. The words used by young people in the UK can be very different from those used by adults. Living in a multi-cultural (多元文化的) society has an effect on language, especially on young people, whose friends are often from a mix of backgrounds.
Young British people use lots of language that you usually can’t find in most dictionaries. These informal words and expressions are known as “slang (俚语)”. It is not possible to make a complete list of modern British slang. By the time the list was finished, it would be out of date! Here are a few examples:
“Sorted!” “Sound!” and “Cool!” all mean “That’s good!”
“Whatever” means “I don’t care.” And “He’s fine.” and “He’s fit.” both mean “He’s good-looking.” “Fine” and “fit” can describe a boy or a girl.
However, not everybody likes slang. A school in Sheffield asked its pupils to stop using slang words, such as hiya (hello). The head teacher says that if young people learn to speak “correctly”, this will help them get a place at university.
So, how important is it to understand these slang words and expressions? If you watch movies in English, chat online in English or are interested in English song lyrics, understanding slang will be very useful. You probably won’t see much slang in your English exam, though.
32. What are the informal words and expressions called?
__________________________________________________
33. What do you think Mike means according to the following dialogue (对话)?
David: But the manager says we can’t leave until we’ve finished.
Mike: Whatever. I’m going.

34. Using a word to describe making a complete list of modern British slang.

35. Write an ending for the text. (within 15 words)

32. They are called slang./Slang.
33. He doesn’t care about it./He doesn’t care.
34. Impossible.
35. In my opinion, overusing slang will harm our standard English./To be honest, it makes English more lively and fun./…
根据文章第2段“These informal words and expressions are known as ‘slang’”可知,非正式的单词和表达被称为俚语。
根据文章第4段“‘Whatever’means ‘I don’t care.’”
根据文章第2段“It is not possible to make a complete list of modern British slang.”

Pat
21. What’s Sarah’s problem?
A. She has no time to play with her friends.
B. She feels worried when missing friends’ fun things on the phone.
C. She can’t use social media well to make friends.

A. Post more good moments of her own online.
B. Ask friends not to share fun things on social media.
C. Stop using social media for a while and do something relaxing.
23. Which of the following is TRUE about people’s social media posts?
A. They mainly share their bad life moments.
B. They usually show the best parts of their lives.
C. They post things just to impress other people.

24. What did Niu Yu do in 2018?
A. She joined the school sports team.
B. She finished a full marathon.
C. She decided not to hide her leg anymore.
25. What can we infer from Niu Yu’s experience of showing her artificial leg?
A. People always laugh at those with artificial legs.
B. Hiding the artificial leg can solve all problems.
C. Being open about difficulties can get positive responses.
26. Which is the right order of the facts about Niu Yu according to time?
①She performed in Shanghai Fashion Week.
②She lost her right leg.
③She finished a half marathon.
④She carried the torch at the FISU World University Games.
A. ②①④③ B. ②③①④ C. ③④①②
27. What does the story of Niu Yu mainly want to tell us?
A. Sports can help people recover from disasters.
B. We should be brave in the face of difficulties.
C. Social media is a good place to share experiences.

33. What do you think Mike means according to the following dialogue (对话)?
