I intended to meet new people, for I am a social person. Hearing that the Business Confucius Institute (BCI) was offering Chinese evening classes on the university campus, I was determined to sign up for Level 1 class. This initial (最初的)decision was made on a whim. I had no grand career goals or plans to travel to China in the near future. Learning a new language was the fact that it was not something I had done before. My mother is from Spain and I was raised with two languages, but there is a huge difference between acquiring a language in childhood and learning one in adulthood. I expected to find out how I would get along with Chinese. In each class my Chinese teacher would teach us what seemed like thousands of new words and expressions, and then get us to act them out in role plays reproducing basic Chinese introductions and conversations. After each lesson I felt as though my brain had been placed in a deep oil pot for a long time. But then, I began to realize that the more my brain ached right after class, the more information I had taken in. I found that Chinese words and expressions we had covered would rush unexpectedly into my head at any moment, such as when I was in the shower or driving to work. I have now completed the Business Confucius Level 3 class and am able to hold basic conversations with Chinese people on a variety of topics. This experience helped me a lot. Recently I landed a new job at the University of Leeds’ School of Law, providing job opportunities for Chinese students. Learning Chinese will help me in my career, further fuelling my motivation to continue my studies. 24. What was the writer’s purpose of signing up for the Chinese class? A. To make new friends. B. To show off his ability. C. To adapt to the city life. D. To get working experience. 25. What does the underlined word “whim” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Deep love. B. Careful thought. C. Sudden wish. D. Strange dream. 26. What can be known about the writer from Paragraph 3? A. He was an expert in spelling words. B. He enjoyed the Chinese classes a lot. C. He was troubled by those Chinese words. D. He made great progress in learning Chinese. 27. What does the writer think of the experience of learning Chinese in the end? A. Unusual. B. Beneficial. C. Funny. D. Stressful. A 25. C 26. D 27. 根据文章第一段中“Having moved to a new city, I was looking for things to do in my spare time. I intended to meet new people, for I am a social person. ”(搬到一个新城市后,我在寻找空闲时间可以做的事情。我打算结识新朋友,因为我是一个社交人士)可知,作者加入中文课堂是为了结识朋友。故选A项。 根据文章第二段中“I had no grand career goals or plans to travel to China in the near future. Learning a new language was the fact that it was not something I had done before. ”(我没有宏伟的职业目标,也没有在不久的将来去中国旅行的计划。学习一门新语言是因为我以前没有学过)可知, 作者最初学中文的决定是一时的念头,只是为了尝试学一门新语言。由此可知,划线词意为“突然的想法”。故选C项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段中“I have now completed the Business Confucius Level 3 class and am able to hold basic conversations with Chinese people on a variety of topics. ”(我现在已经完成了商务孔子三级课程,能够就各种话题与中国人进行基本对话)可知,作者在中文学习上取得了很大的进步。故选D项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。 根据文章最后一段中“This experience helped me a lot. ”(这次经历对我帮助很大)以及“Learning Chinese will help me in my career, further fuelling my motivation to continue my studies.”(学习中文将有助于我的职业生涯,进一步激发我继续学习的动力)可知,作者认为他学中文的经历是很有益处的。故选B项。 C How many times a day do you check your email? When you wake up? Before bed? A dozen limes in between? The technology that was supposed to make our lives simple has taken up too much time. The average teen spends more than seven hours a day using technological devices, with an additional hour just text-messaging friends. The advantage of technological devices is connectedness. Email lets us respond on the go, and we are in touch with more people during more hours of the day than at any other time in history. But is it possible that we’re lonelier than ever, too? That’s what MIT professor Sherry Turkle observes in her new book, Alone Together, which clearly describes our changing relationship with technology. For Turkic, the biggest worry is the effect the weak connections have on our development. Technology isn’t offering us the lives we want to live. “We’re texting people at a distance” says Turkic. “We’re using lifeless objects to convince ourselves that even when we’re alone, we feel together. And then when we’re with each other, we put ourselves in situations where we are alone—always on our mobile devices. It’s what I call a perfect storm of confusion about what’s important in our human connections.” Moreover, communicating online is not equal to face-to-face communication. Online, you can ignore others’ feelings. In a text message, you can avoid eye contact A number of studies have found that this generation of young people is sympathetic (有同情心的) than ever. “That doesn’t lead to disaster,” says Turkle, “but the disadvantages still cannot be ignored.” 28. From the first paragraph we can learn that . A. Email checking helps people wake up early B. People communicate mainly by text-messaging now C. Technological device production has been simplified D. Using technological devices costs young men much time 29. What is Sherry Turkic’s biggest worry? A. Technology may make human connections confusing. B. Technology can’t help people remove loneliness. C. Technology may make people’s lives hard. D. Technology keeps people together. 30. What is the author’s attitude towards the influence of technology on people’s life? A. Positive B. Negative C. Hopeless D. Uncertain 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. Technology brings many conveniences to people’s lives. B. Young men spend too much time on technological devices. C. Technology also brings people some disadvantages. D. Sherry Turkle observes people’s changing relationship with Technology. D 29. A 30. B 31. 根据第一段“the average teen spends more than seven hours a day using technological devices, plus an additional hour just text-messaging friends.”(青少年平均每天花在使用科技设备上的时间超过7个小时,另外还有一个小时只是给朋友发短信)可推断出,使用技术设备花费了青少年很多时间。 根据第三段“It’s what I call a perfect storm of confusion about what’s important in our human connections.”(我把这称为一场关于人类关系中什么才是重要的混乱的完美风暴)可知Sherry Turkle最大的担心是技术可能会让人类的联系混乱。所以选A。 根据最后一段“Moreover, communicating online is not equal to face-to-face communication. Online, you can ignore others’ feelings. In a text message, you can avoid eye contact. A number of studies have found that this generation of young people is less sympathetic(有同情心的)than ever. “That doesn’t lead to disaster,” says Turkle, “but the disadvantages still cannot be ignored.”(此外,在线交流不等于面对面交流。在网上,你可以忽略别人的感受。在短信中,你可以避免眼神交流。多项研究发现,这一代年轻人比以往任何时候都缺乏同情心。“这不会导致灾难,”特克说,“但其不利之处仍不容忽视)可判断出作者对技术对人类生活的影响持否定态度。所以选B。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段“For Turkic, the biggest worry is the effect the weak connections have on our development.”和第四段“Moreover, communicating online is not equal to face-to-face communication.”结合全文内容,可知本文主要讲了技术在给人们带来方便的同时,也带来了许多不利因素,所以C选项“科技也给人们带来了一些不利之处”符合文章主旨。故选C。 D American billionaire Elon Musk has demonstrated a technology designed to use a computer chip inside the head to control the brain. During a video demonstration on Friday, Musk provided details about the system, called Neuralink. Musk says he hopes the technology can be used to treat neural disorders and help spinal injury victims regain body movement. Musk also believes the system could be used in the future to improve intelligence to help humans keep up with supercomputers and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. During the show, Musk showed off a model of the Neuralink device. It is about 23 millimeters wide. It is designed to be implanted into a person's skull. Small wires would connect the device directly to the brain. The Neuralink system is currently being tested in pigs, with plans to seek government approval for human testing sometime in the future. A pig named Gertrude was also shown during the show. Musk explained that Gertrude had a Neuralink chip inside its head. The device is meant to record nerve activity in the pig's nose and mouth. Musk said the company had three pigs, each with two chips. He described the animals as "healthy, happy and indistinguishable from a normal pig." Musk said the company was able to predict with "high accuracy" a pig's leg movement on a running machine using data from the chip. Musk noted that Neuralink first wants to use the device on people with severe spinal cord injuries to help them talk and move using their brain waves. He said he is hopeful that, in the long term, those people could regain "full-body motion." Some neuroscientists not linked to the company said the presentation suggested Neuralink had made great progress with the technology. However, they warned that many more studies will be needed to test the long-term success of such devices. 32. What good can the Neuralink device do to the disabled? A. Making them think clearly. B. Treating their diseases successfully. C. Having them keep up with supercomputers. D. Helping them to move again. 33. Which can best describe the pigs with a Neuralink inside their heads? A. Normal. B. Active. C. Nervous. D. Intelligent. 34. What do some neuroscientists think of Neuralink? A. it has been a great success. B. it will succeed very soon. C. it has a long way to go. D. It needs support from new theories. 35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. There Will Be Great Progress in Brain Science. B. Musk Shows Technology Linking Computer to Brain. C. Three Pigs Are being Tested Instead of Human Beings. D. The Disabled Will Receive Better Treatment in the future. 【答案】32. D 33. A 34. C 35. He described the animals as ‘healthy, happy and indistinguishable from a normal pig.’”(Musk说,该公司有三只猪,每只猪有两个芯片。他说这些动物是“健康、快乐的,不能把它们和正常的猪区分开来。”)可以推知,脑袋里有Neuralink的猪情况很正常。故选A项。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Some neuroscientists not linked to the company said the presentation suggested Neuralink had made great progress with the technology. However, they warned that many more studies will be needed to test the long-term success of such devices.”(一些神经科学家表示,该节目表明,Neuralink在这项技术上取得了巨大进步。然而,他们警告说,还需要更多的研究来测试这种设备的长期效果)可以推知,一些神经科学家认为Neuralink还有很长的路要走。故选C项。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,根据第一段中“American billionaire Elon Musk has demonstrated a technology designed to use a computer chip inside the head to control the brain.”(美国亿万富翁Elon Musk展示了一项技术,该技术利用头内部的电脑芯片来控制大脑。)等内容可知,文章主要介绍了Musk所展示的一项可以将电脑和人脑进行连接的科技, B选项“Musk展示连接电脑和大脑的技术”突出主题,简明准确,最适合作文章标题。故选B项。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 When it comes to breaking rules during a job search, career coach Angela Copeland encourages jobseekers to think beyond the normal barriers or unspoken rules. “It’s always been my philosophy that you have to think outside the box. ____36____ because then no one is going to know who you are,” says Copeland. The best jobs, she says, go to those who try harder, who are creative and who break the rules in their job search. Copeland offers four top rules to break while looking for a job. 1. Don’t listen to HR about how to apply. The standard line is to apply for a job online. Copeland suggests finding other ways to apply, too, whether it is in person, via a headhunter or through a friend inside the company. ____37____. 2. Don’t worry if you don’t meet all qualifications. ____38____. The hiring manager will be interviewing candidates who don’t have all the qualifications, which often is a wish list for the company. There will be parts of the job description that are optional or that they’re willing to teach you. 3. Don’t worry about bothering people. Put yourself out there and network with people in your industry. Attend events and reach out to people by email or phone. Out of 10 contacts, you may only have three who respond. ____39____. 4. Don’t be afraid of social media. When applying for jobs, know that potential employers will Google you and look through your social media profiles. ____40____. But also use social media to meet new people. Many senior executives manage their own accounts online, and it’s good to engage with them when possible. A. Keep them professional and updated B. You can’t count on everyone to lend you a hand C. But one of those could lead you to your new job D. You can’t be so worried about following the rules E. Applying in person often is the most effective method F. Challenge yourself to think differently and to take risks G. If you want a job and think you can do it, you should apply anyway 【答案】36. D 37. E 38. G 39. C 40. A 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇应用文。文章讲述了职业教练安吉拉·科普兰鼓励求职者超越常规障碍或潜规则进行思考。科普兰提供了四条在找工作时必须遵守的最高规则。 【36题详解】 由上文“It’s always been my philosophy that you have to think outside the box.(你必须跳出框框思考,这一直是我的哲学)”以及下文“because then no one is going to know who you are(因为那样就没人知道你是谁了)”说明你必须跳出框框思考,不必担心那些规则。D. You can’t be so worried about following the rules(你不必那么担心遵守规则)符合题意。故选D项。 【37题详解】 由上文“Copeland suggests finding other ways to apply, too, whether it is in person, via a headhunter or through a friend inside the company. It was the last posting day for Christmas cards if they were to be received before Christmas. Although something happened later that stopped me from posting the Christmas cards on time, I did think that I gave kindness and love to someone else. As I came out of the parking lot I saw a little boy of probably about 12 years of age on the other side of the road. He was alone and was weeping. I thought some bigger boys had perhaps bullied(霸凌)him and he was in pain. I should go to his aid and see if I could help him. He told me that his big sister who was a nurse had bought him a Christmas present. It was a mobile phone, and it was his first mobile phone. He had been allowed to use it before Christmas and had only had it days when he dropped it and cracked the screen! The little boy was very sad, and tears were rolling down his face as he told me this. It was clear he valued his present and knew that this was a lot of money for his sister to spend on him. He’d been to a phone shop and they’d told him it would be $80 to get a new screen. I had no money and was waiting for my next pay cheque, but I knew I had to help him. I knew some people in the mobile phone repair shop. Paragraph 1: So I took him there, I knew they would help me out. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: I took him to an ATM. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: So I took him there, I knew they would help me out. I intended to ask my friends to get the screen of the mobile phone repaired and I would pay for it when I got paid the following week. I knew they would trust me on this. I took the boy there with me, only to find the shop was closed! What could I do now? Paragraph 2: I took him to an ATM. I withdrew all the money in my account, only $20. I was disappointed that I did not have more money to help this little boy. I gave him the only $20 I had and made some excuse as to why I could not help him more. I didn’t want him to know it was all I had until pay day. He thanked me repeatedly. I told him that when he grew up, I hoped that he would pass on kindness. I could not fully pay for his phone to be repaired, but I hoped that the kindness he received from a stranger would stay with him when he became a man. 词汇激活 行为类 ①修理: repair/fix ②付钱:pay for it/settle the bill ③停留,待着:stay/remain 情绪类 ①感谢:thank me/express gratitude to me/be grateful to me ②失望:disappointed/frustrated/discouraged 【点睛】 [高分句型1]. A. Unusual. B. Beneficial. C. Funny. D. Stressful. C How many times a day do you check your email? D American billionaire Elon Musk has demonstrated a technology designed to use a computer chip inside the head to control the brain. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 When it comes to breaking rules during a job search, career coach Angela Copeland encourages jobseekers to think beyond the normal barriers or unspoken rules. “It’s always been my philosophy that you have to think outside the box. ____36____ because then no one is going to know who you are,” says Copeland. The best jobs, she says, go to those who try harder, who are creative and who break the rules in their job search. Copeland offers four top rules to break while looking for a job. 1. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
