Best known for becoming the fastest women in the world, and the first female to win 3 Olympic gold medals at the same games, Wilma Rudolph’s journey was a long trip far from smooth sailing.
She was born on June 23, 1940, in St. Bethlehem, Tennessee. At two years old, she had several weakening health conditions, which forced her to wear a leg brace (支架) when growing elder. She said, “My doctor told me I would never walk again. My mother told me I would. I believed my mother.”
Despite the disabilities, the young athlete showed surprising promise early on. She began moving around on her brace and by the age of 11 became mobile enough to play basketball. Eventually, she was able to overcome her disabilities and fully devoted her life to athletics. When in the high school, she joined the basketball team, and as a naturally gifted runner she was then admitted to Tennessee State University to train with famous track coach Ed Temple.
Nicknamed “Skeeter” for her intense speed, Rudolph competed for the first in 1956 at the Summer Olympics at Melbourne, Australia. Here, as the youngest member of the team at just 16, she raced in the Women’s 200 meters and the 4×100-meter relay; the latter of which saw her team win bronze. After 4 years at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy, she won a ground-breaking 3 gold medals: Women’s 100m and 200m, and the 4×100m relay. In 1962, she retired from competition and returned to finish her degree at Tennessee State University, after which she began working in the education industry. In 1981, she established the ‘Wilma Rudolph Foundation’, a nonprofit organization based in Indianapolis that promotes and helps amateur athletics, with a focus on track and field stars.
Her amazing life came to an end on November 12, 1994. Of course, she made her mark on sports history. However, she is also remembered for her motto — winning is great, sure, but if you are going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose.
24. Who played the key role in young Rudolph’s belief in recovery?
A. Her doctor. B. Her coach. C. Her mother. D. Her teammate.
25. Which words best describe Rudolph’s early life?
A. Healthy and promising. B. Challenging and difficult.
C. Ordinary and uneventful. D. Wealthy and favorable.
26. Which of the following best reflects Rudolph’s life motto?
A. Never say die. B. Always aim high. C. Lose to learn. D. Victory matters.
27. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To honor Rudolph’s life and spirits. B. To list Rudolph’s Olympic medals.

Like rolling into a gas station during a road trip, whale sharks use oil and gas platforms as a brief stop during their migrations of thousands of kilometers across the oceans. The human-made structures attract marine life — including the sharks’ favorite snack: plankton But experts worry that this attraction could put the endangered giant creatures at risk of ship strike or chemical pollution.
Satellite tracking of whale sharks off the coast of western Australia shows how oil and gas platforms influence the movements of these gentle giants, marine ecologist Ben D’ Antonio, of the Australian Institute of Marine Science and University of Western Australia, and colleagues reported on January 18.
“Think of seafloor features like a truck stop on a highway,” D’ Antonio says. “On a family vacation, we often pull into truck stops to fuel up and grab a quick bite before heading to our final destination. Whale sharks seem to be using seafloor features in a similar way.”
Over 14 years, the researchers tagged 78 whale sharks, tracked their movements and cross-checked the location of landform characteristics to see how these affect the sharks’ routes. While natural canyons and seamounts also act as brief stops, this attraction towards oil platforms — possibly enhanced by plankton’s attraction to the platforms’ rays of light — could put the huge animals at risk of being hit by a ship or pollution from oil spills or discharges. It’s impossible to know exactly how many are being killed by ships because their bodies sink without a sign.
The researchers hope this finding will help decision makers managing marine protected areas and raise awareness of the potential impact on marine life when human-made platforms are disused or new structures are built. “This will become more relevant as developments for renewable energy begin to add additional structure to many coastal areas,” D’ Antonio says.
28. Why do whale sharks use oil and gas platforms as a brief stop?
A. To admire the man-made structures. B. To get food attracted by the platforms.
C. To attract other species of marine life. D. To attack ships stopping at the place.
29. What risk can whale sharks meet when approaching oil and gas platforms?
A. Colliding with ships. B. Missing their snacks.
C. Being hunted by people. D. Being disturbed by tourists.
30. Why is it impossible to know exactly how many whale sharks are killed by ships?
A. Their bodies are quickly eaten by predators. B. Their bodies sink without leaving a trace.
C. Ship strikes are rarely reported by sailors. D. Tracking devices fail to record fatal collisions.
31. What role do the researchers hope this finding will play?
A. Promote the economy of coastal cities.
B. Improve the stability of the gas platforms.
C. Assist decision makers with structure planning.
D. Help countries to upgrade energy structures.
B 29. A 30. B 31. C

根据第一段中“Like rolling into a gas station during a road trip, whale sharks use oil and gas platforms as a brief stop during their migrations of thousands of kilometers across the oceans. The human-made structures attract marine life — including the sharks’ favorite snack: plankton (浮游生物). (就像在公路旅行中驶入加油站一样,鲸鲨在跨越数千公里海洋的迁徙途中,会将石油和天然气平台当作短暂停歇之处。这些人造建筑会吸引海洋生物——包括鲸鲨最喜爱的小吃:浮游生物。)”可知,鲸鲨把油气平台当作短暂停留地是为了获取被平台吸引的食物。故选B。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“But experts worry that this attraction could put the endangered giant creatures at risk of ship strike or chemical pollution.(但专家担心,这种吸引力可能会使这种濒危的巨型生物面临船只撞击或化学污染的风险。)” 故选A。
根据第四段中“It’s impossible to know exactly how many are being killed by ships because their bodies sink without a sign.(我们不可能确切知道有多少鲸鲨被船只杀死,因为它们的尸体毫无痕迹地沉入海底。)”
根据最后一段中“The researchers hope this finding will help decision makers managing marine protected areas and raise awareness of the potential impact on marine life when human-made platforms are disused or new structures are built.(研究人员希望这一发现将有助于海洋保护区的决策者,并提高人们对废弃人造平台或建造新结构时对海洋生物潜在影响的认识。)”
D
Soil creates life from death. The production of more than 95% of the food we eat relies on soil. But this precious resource is eroding (侵蚀) at a global average of 13.5 tons per hectare per year. Instead of nourishing crops, fertile topsoil is washed and blown away, ending up in inconvenient places such as ditches and oceans.
Jo Handelsman and Kayla Cohen try to make readers care about soil in A World Without Soil. Their prologue (前言) takes the form of a letter to the government. With the letter, they hope to make soil management a federal priority. The following chapters cover the basic science of soil as well as the causes and consequences of its erosion. In the last part of the book, the authors turn to possible solutions—many of them simple, and some centuries old. They describe about traditional soil management techniques, including planting diverse crops in rotation (轮种), increasing organic content, ploughing as little as possible, etc. With these techniques, farmers are able to produce rich agricultural production while maintaining deep banks of fertile soil.
Why, then, is fertile soil being allowed to be washed and blown away? The answer, not surprisingly, rests in global capitalism. Farmers' profit is thin, forcing farmers to plant the highest-profit crop from field to field every season. To ensure food security, Handelsman and Cohen urge the world to demand a real top-down change in how agricultural production is managed. "The burden of protecting soil cannot be shifted to farmers and environmental activists," they note. Governments must begin to move towards a model in which farmers are less independent business people growing and selling food, and more government-supported land workers managing both food production and soil protection. This should be the core of agriculture.
Our land and soil are too precious to be destroyed by the market price of crops. We must invest deeply and thoughtfully in our farmers so that they can invest deeply and thoughtfully in the land. This is the future of farming.
32. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. The gradual process of losing soil.
B. The worrying situation of soil erosion.
C. The alarming decrease of food output.
D. The great significance of soil protection.
33. What do we know about the book A World Without Soil?
A. It targets federal officials as its main readers.
B. It puts forward some practical solutions to soil loss.
C. It advocates changing traditional farming techniques.
D. It blames governments for not taking care of farmlands.
34. What do Handelsman and Cohen suggest farmers do?
A. Invest in the most profitable crops.
B. Grow and sell food all by themselves.
C. Shoulder the burden of protecting soil.
D. Work the land with government support.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. A Call to Save Soil B. Tips to Reshape Agriculture
C. Ways to Enrich Farmland D. An Appeal to Guarantee Food Supply
B 33. B 34. D 35. A
根据文章第一段第三句“But this precious resource is eroding (侵蚀) at a global average of 13.5 tons per hectare per year. (但是每年全球平均每公倾有13.5吨这种宝贵的资源正在被侵蚀。)”和第四句“Instead of nourishing crops, fertile topsoil is washed and blown away, ending up in inconvenient places such as ditches and oceans.(肥沃的表土并没有滋养作物,而是被冲走和吹走,最终流入沟渠和海洋等不便的地方。)”
根据文章第二段第五句“In the last part of the book, the authors turn to possible solutions—many of them simple, and some centuries old.(在本书的最后一部分,作者提到了可能的解决方法——其中很多方法许多很简单,并且一些方法有几个世纪的历史。)”
根据第三段倒数第二句“Governments must begin to move towards a model in which farmers are less independent business people growing and selling food, and more government-supported land workers managing both food production and soil protection.(政府必须开始转向一种模式,在这种模式下,农民不再是种植和销售粮食的独立商人,而是更多由政府支持的土地工人来管理粮食生产和土壤保护。)”
根据文章第四段第二句“We must invest deeply and thoughtfully in our farmers so that they can invest deeply and thoughtfully in the land.(我们必须对我们的农民进行深入而周到的投资,以便他们能够对土地进行深入而周到的投资。)” 故选A项。

分析句子结构并参考句意,空白处下文“Su Ming, 16, said he hoped to return to the nursing home regularly to spend time with the seniors that he made friends with.( 16岁的苏说他希望能定期到养老院和与他交朋友的老人们一起度过快乐时光)”为结果状语从句,又因so…that 为固定句型,故填that。

Dear Tom,
Knowing that you are having some trouble in reading the Chinese classics, I am writing to share my opinions and advice on this topic.
First and foremost, it is of great significance for a Chinese learner to read more books in the original language. By doing so, not only can you appreciate the charm of the language, but you can also broaden your views in understanding the culture and history of China. Additionally, reading Chinese novels will surely contribute to good communication and positive interaction with your Chinese classmates and friends. As for how to solve the challenges in reading the Chinese classics, I do think interest comes first and choosing books suitable to your level is equally important. Don’t lost heart, with a little patience, and you will benefit a lot from reading.
I hope what I have mentioned above can help you and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Yours,
Li Hua

Every student at Oakridge High knew that Michael was struggling. His family had recently moved to a smaller apartment across town after his father was laid off from work. The financial pressures at home cast a shadow over everything he did.
Each morning, he arrived at Oakridge High wearing the same faded jeans and worn-out sneakers. Where he once participated eagerly in class discussions, he now sat in the back row, hoping to escape notice. He found himself staring blankly at the whiteboard, unable to focus. The numbers blurred together as worries about his family’s situation crowded his mind.
Mr. Evans, a teacher with twenty years of experience, recognized the signs immediately. After class, he asked Michael to stay for a moment. “I know you’re going through a difficult time,” Mr. Evans said, his voice filled with genuine concern. “But remember this: difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. The struggle you’re facing today is developing the strength you need for tomorrow.” He placed a reassuring hand on Michael’s shoulder. “This temporary setback doesn’t define you — it’s preparing you. I’ve seen your potential, and I believe in you even when you might not believe in yourself.”
Their after-school sessions became regular. He taught Michael how to break down complex problems into manageable steps — a strategy that applied not just to mathematics but to life’s challenges as well. Most importantly, he consistently emphasized Michael’s capabilities, rebuilding the confidence that had been eroded (侵蚀) by recent difficulties.
As weeks passed, Michael’s performance began to improve dramatically. He started arriving early for their sessions, often with questions prepared in advance. The frustration that once clouded his expression was replaced by determination. In class, he began raising his hand again, offering solutions to problems that challenged other students.
注意:
1.写作词数应为150个左右;
The true test came with the annual mathematics competition.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After the award presentation, Michael went to Mr. Evans’s office.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
The true test came with the annual mathematics competition. The mathematics competition was intense, with the brightest students from across the district competing. Michael focused intently, recalling Mr. Evans’s strategies as he solved each problem. When the results were announced, he felt a surge of disbelief and joy upon hearing his name called for second place. Walking to the stage to receive his certificate, he saw Mr. Evans applauding proudly in the audience, giving him a thumbs-up. That moment of recognition meant more to Michael than the award itself.
After the award presentation, Michael went to Mr. Evans’s office. He found Mr. Evans was buried in grading students’ assignments. He approached his teacher, holding the certificate with visible emotion. “Thank you for everything, sir,” Michael said sincerely. Mr. Evans responded with a warm smile, placing a hand on his shoulder. “You earned this through your own determination,” he replied quietly. “Remember that challenges are merely opportunities in disguise.” The brief exchange conveyed profound gratitude and pride, capturing the essence of their special student-teacher bond.

Now i'd like to share my amazing experience volunteering at best friend's animal sancy with you all. I started this journey because of my dad. He is eighty one, and i've always admired his love for animals. I thought I would be a great way to bond with him. So we decided to volunteer together at the sanctuary. We did all kinds of work, from removing goat droppings to building total shelters. IT might sound like hard work, and IT was, but IT was also incredibly rewarding. Every day, I felt a deep sense of joy, knowing that we were making a difference in these animals lives. Volunteering there not only brought my dad and me closer, but also filled my heart with happiness. I truly believe that helping these lovely creatures is one of the most meaningful things we can do.
C. To teach how to overcome disabilities. D. To promote the Wilma Rudolph Foundation.
