It was written in 1909 by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The book became very popular and is still one of the greatest books for children. The main characters are Mary, Mr Craven (Colin’s father), Dickon, and Colin. After her parents die, Mary goes to live at her uncle’s manor house. One day, she finds the secret garden, which looks wild and neglected. With her friend Dickon, she makes the garden beautiful again. Later, they meet the sick and unhappy Colin. Finally, with the help of nature and friendship, both Mary and Colin become happier and healthier. This book has taught me to love nature and see how it can help us. I’m inspired by the author’s description of nature. As Burnett said, “If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” I’ve read the book twice and still enjoy it. If you have never read anything by Frances Hodgson Burnett, I recommend starting with this book.
