People should do more things online from home. Why pollute the air by driving your car to the supermarket, when you can order your weekly shopping on the Internet? You can also book holidays as well.

I try to use public transportation whenever I can. I take the bus to college and walk home. When my mum wants to give me a lift, I always refuse, as I can get there quickly by bus. Also the buses in my town are electric(电动的) so they are environmentally friendly!
Posted by Carol on June 12th 10:35 a.m.
Why not use two wheels(轮子)? Any motorcycle will use less fuel(燃料) than a car. You don't get caught in traffic jams(堵塞) either! But I think the best thing is a bicycle. It doesn't produce any pollution and help you to keep fit at the same time.
Posted by Daz on June 12th 16:00 p.m.
I can't get to my university(大学) by bus or train. So I found three other girls who live nearby to have a car to share with. And now we take it in turns to drive every day. I have cut down the costs and most importantly, I am helping the environment.

In the 1500s, South American fishermen said that the sea became warmer every few years. They gave this special event a Spanish name “El Nino”, meaning “the baby”. It is called “the baby” because it arrives around Christmas.
El Nino is a huge area of warm water in the middle of cold water in the Pacific Ocean. It happens every two to seven years. It moves around the ocean and becomes bigger or smaller at different times. This warm water affects the weather. It is always raining over El Nino. El Nino has a lot of energy. Scientists think this energy is formed when wind comes from the northern half of the world. The winds blow across warm sea water in the south. When the strong wind hits the warm water, violent(猛烈的) weather happens. Scientists think El Nino has had for many thousands of years.
El Nino affects every person in the world because it affects the whole world's weather. It can bring the rain that farmers need. It can bring storms that pull down homes. It can mean that fishermen cannot catch fish, and it can cause floods. There is nothing we can do about El Nino. It is an event of nature. We can help the world's weather by trying to stop the greenhouse effect and air pollution. The most important job for scientists is to learn how to predict when El Nino is going to bring dangerous weather. Then, people can try to prepare for storms and floods. New technology like satellite pictures and temperature measuring equipment can help. Still, it is very hard to say when or where El Nino will cause damage.

Plastic straws(吸管) are commonly used in daily life, but people in Hong Kong are not allowed to use plastic straws because of the regulation(法例) on single-use plastic products. Many single-use plastics, like forks and plates, are covered. It started on Earth Day, April 22nd,.
However, the regulation has caused some problems. On the internet, people in Hong Kong have shared pictures of paper spoons that get soft before they finish drinking their soup, especially when the soup is hot. Someone says,“In the past, plastic covers for umbrellas were given out when people walked into a mall on rainy days. But now they aren't available. Rainwater drops from umbrellas, increasing the chance of people falling down.”
According to Zhou Yue, a young man who lives in Hong Kong, the regulation will affect travellers more because hotels in Hong Kong do not provide free plastic products any more. It means they have to bring their own toothbrushes. Many travellers aren't aware of this beforehand, so they feel inconvenient having to buy or bring their own toothbrushes.
“To protect the environment and public health, we need to cut down the use of plastics step by step,”said an officer, explaining the reason for the regulation.“Even small changes in daily choices can come together to guard the planet we share for years to come.”
Carrying out this regulation certainly has a lot of difficulty. To help, the government has set the first six months after the introduction of the regulation as an“adaptation period(适应期)”,during which restaurants and stores are taught how to follow the rule correctly. After that, they might be punished if they are against the regulation.
33.How does the writer show problems caused by the regulation?
A. By giving examples. B. By expressing an idea.
C. By listing numbers. D. By raising questions.
34.What does the underlined sentence mean?
A. Protecting the planet mainly depends on big actions.
B. Tiny daily changes can work together to protect our planet.
C. Daily choices have little influence on environmental protection.
D. Small efforts in daily life can work well with the support of the government.
35.Why did the government set an“adaptation period”?
A. To punish rule-breaking businesses.
B. To test if the regulation works.
C. To let travellers prepare beforehand.
D. To help businesses follow the rule.
36.What is the best title for the passage?
A. Ways to Cut Down Plastic Use
B. Hong Kong's Rule on Single-use Plastics
C. Problems of Using Plastic Products
D. Travellers' Inconvenience in Hong Kong
