Four Top Audiobook (有声读物) Apps
Scribd
If you’re looking to combine your audiobook listening with e-books and news publications, Scribd might be the app for you. Its massive library includes a healthy balance of traditionally published books, bestsellers, and Scribd originals. Scribd also runs an associated program, which gives you one free month for every friend you invite, and gives your friend a two-month trial. If you're a writer, Scribd also has an open publishing platform to help you self-publish your audiobooks in minutes.
Kobo Books
Best known as an e-book retailer, Kobo Books also offers audiobooks on its platform. You get unlimited access to over 100,000 audiobooks in its library for only a few dollars. The app also does a good job organizing your purchased books, and its in-app statistics are brilliant for readers, knowing your reading habits in detail, while suggesting new recommended titles based on your history.
eStories
With over 120,000 different types of audiobooks to choose from, eStories starts off with a half-price offer for your first 3 months, and then switches to a higher-priced subscription. Members get discounted prices on additional audiobooks as well as other benefits such as extra credits and extended periods of use. As a member, you also get 30 days to return a book if you don’t like it. Additionally, the app provides unlimited storage for your own audio that you can upload.
Libby
Libby lets you borrow e-books and audiobooks from your local library. A library membership lets you access several thousand audiobooks on its app entirely free of cost. While the availability of titles depends on the library you're a member of, you’d still be getting free access to a lot of books that you’d otherwise have to pay for. The catch is that since you're technically borrowing the books, you only have two weeks to get through them before they're returned. I’m in Marrakech, the heart of Morocco at the base of the Atlas Mountains, with my son, Sam. He’s eight. We’ve come here with Mohamed, a friend who owns a store in our New York neighborhood. We’re regular customers at Mohamed’s store, where Sam can often be found negotiating with his friend. When they’re not bargaining, they’re chatting about swords, or camels, or the desert. “You need to come to Marrakech,” Mohamed told me. “I’ll show you around and teach Sam how to really get a bargain!” So here we are.
We meet up with Mohamed over a cup of tea at a table outside the tiny Café ben Youssef, deep in the old city of Marrakech. We’re sitting in an area bordering the stalls of the marketplace. Vendors with carts offer freshly squeezed orange juice, others sell dates or figs. Nearby are the workshops that supply the goods to this world-famous market.
Later, as we walk around, Mohamed begins the first of his bargaining tutorials for Sam.
“Everything in Morocco is open to negotiation, Sam. When you hear a price, the first thing you say is Too much-bezaf and then walk away.”
“But what if I like it?”
“When you see something you like, maybe a lamp, you ask about something else instead. Then, as you walk out, you ask, ‘And how much is that lamp?’ as though you’d just noticed it and aren’t really that interested in it.”
We turn a corner and are greeted with sweet-smelling orange blossoms. “Don’t always give an offer. Make them continue to lower the price. Oh, and wear something Moroccan,” Mohamed continues, as we enter a fairly large shop. Most of the stalls in Marrakech specialize in one thing, but not this one. Decorative and lethal-looking swords hang beside soft hand-dyed fabrics; large camel bones covered in writing sit beside massive copper lamps. It is here that Sam spots a box.
“Look, a treasure chest!” It’s made of wood and painted red and gold. He opens the lid, then closes it. “Cool.” Then he spots a tall, cobalt blue, tear-shaped old perfume bottle. “Four hundred dirham,” the shopkeeper pronounces. Fifty dollars. Sam says nothing. Whether he’s too shy or is practicing Mohamed’s bargaining technique, I can’t tell. He eventually agrees to pay 200 dirham, about $24.
I’d say the bottle is worth $10, at most. Clearly, his negotiating skills need a little work. “Just to get started, Dad,” Sam says to me as he pays for the bottle.
4. Why did the author decide to bring Sam to Marrakech?
A. Because Sam had been begging to see camels and the desert for a long time.
B. Because Mohamed promised to teach Sam the art of bargaining in person.
C. Because the author wanted to buy swords at a better price in the local market.
D. Because Mohamed’s store in New York was closing and they needed a farewell trip.
5. What does Mohamed advise Sam to do when he finds something he likes?
A. To look for something similar in another shop.
B. To complain to the vendor about its high price.
C. To conceal his real preference from the vendor.
D. To ask the vendor about the price as soon as possible.
6. What does the writer imply about Sam’s first negotiating experience?
A. It is far from successful.
B. It is a good opportunity for practice.
C. It reveals Sam’s potential in negotiation.
D. It shows that Sam is too shy for negotiation.
7. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?
A. A Shopping Trip B. The Charm of the Market
C. A Busy City D. The Art of the Deal
C
Dreschel is going for his daily morning walk around Thalangama Wetland, in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo. The sun casts a warm glow over flowering pink water lilies (睡莲) as a farmer washes down his water buffalo. A kingfisher hovers (盘旋) nearby.
But this hasn’t always been the case. About 15 years ago, Thalangama’s wetlands were polluted and filled with rubbish. Dreschel, the country manager at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Colombo, recalled a decade ago he began cleaning the lake alone. Surprisingly, passersby stopped to help. Inspired the community formed the Thalangama Wetland Watch.
Colombo, a Ramsar wetland city, located in a river basin and naturally trending to floods, relies on its wetlands as natural flood barriers, absorbing 40% of floodwaters. They also sink carbon, purify air, and control temperatures. Historically central to local life, they now help reduce climate change, pollution, and stress for residents in high-rise buildings.
It is said that after significant flooding events the government realized wetlands are a significant flood control mechanism and began to act, launching a revival strategy to restore these critical ecosystems. The metro Colombo wetland management strategy was introduced in 2016, which aims to include wetlands in urban planning, prevent further wetland loss, restore the ecosystems and involve the local community in their conservation. Following that, wetlands were included into urban infrastructure by constructing cycling tracks, jogging paths and recreational areas around them. Invasive species were almost cleaned and new soil and wetland plants were introduced to attract birds and other animals.
Green infrastructure projects have reconnected people with Colombo’s wetlands. Communities like Wetland Watch now maintain them, boosting property values. The Ramsar status temporarily stopped wetland destruction.
But an expert warns that coordinated efforts are essential to resist growing flood risks. He emphasizes that public education on wetlands is crucial for urban resilience. Another notes a fundamental urgency to protect these ecosystems. “If we lose our wetlands, Colombo will be unlivable.”
8. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Dreschel’s morning walk?
A. To recommend a way to protect wetlands.
B. To show Dreschel’s healthy and peaceful life.
C. To present a scene full of life around The wetland.
D. To suggest benefits of morning walks in Sri Lanka.
9. What is the function of the wetland?
A. Releasing the impact of floods. B. Providing residential areas for people.
C. Preventing climate change and pollution. D. Improving air quality by removing pollutants.
10. What can be inferred about the government’s restoration measures?
A. They removed all invasive species. B. They integrated wetlands into urban life.
C. They prioritized economy over ecology. D. They relocated communities over wetlands.
11. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. How a Walk Saved a Wetland B. Colombo: A City Built on Wetlands
C. The Future of Sri Lanka’s Waterways D. Wetlands: From Wasteland to Lifeline
D
Sound travels as vibrations (振动) through the air. Conventional microphones function by picking up these vibrations. Scientists wondered if they could make microphones that see those vibrations rather than hear them. Now researchers in China have built such a device.
Led by physicist Yao Xuri from Beijing Institute of Technology, the team has built a device that photographs the tiny, imperceptible vibrations that sound waves generate on objects. According to Yao, “This technique enables sound detection using everyday items under natural lighting.”
This is hardly the first attempt to make a microphone that works with light. Alexander Graham Bell built one back in 1880. He called it a photophone. It operated by using sound waves to deform a mirror, causing reflected light to flash along with the sound. These flashes were then changed back into sound. Modern attempts have been trying to copy this, using high-speed cameras or precise lasers (激光), but such systems are often complex and costly.
The Chinese team has adopted an alternative approach: single-pixel (单像素) imaging. “Unlike ordinary cameras which rely on millions of sensors, single-pixel imaging uses just one,” Yao noted. It scans a scene to collect visual data, which is then processed by computers to reconstruct an image. Through this technique, Yao’s team detected how sound waves had shaken a paper card or leaf. A computer then decoded the data into audible sound.
The device successfully captured spoken numbers in both Chinese and English and decoded an excerpt from Beethoven’s Für Elise. “This method creates a relatively small amount of data, making it easy to store or upload,” Yao noted. The team is refining the device’s capacity to detect human heartbeat and heart rate, a development that could enable non-contact patient monitoring in medical settings.
Currently, the technology only works from about half a meter away, and detecting sound in noisy environments remains a key challenge. That will take more advanced technology and extensive field testing. But if they succeed, we might not just listen to the world around us — we might watch it speak.
12. The underlined word “imperceptible” in paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to ______.
A. inaudible B. inaccessible C. unpredictable D. unnoticeable
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. Research background. B. Study design. C. Technical approaches. D. Key challenges.
14. How does the single-pixel imaging device differ from ordinary cameras?
A. It works at a super high speed. B. It processes data with a computer.
C. It uses precise lasers to scan scenes. D. It collects data with only one sensor.
15. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of the technology?
A. Expectant. B. Doubtful. C. Concerned. D. Uncertain.

In the age of short videos and bite-sized information, it seems we’re losing the ability to enjoy good books. Reading is no longer a naturally built-in ability; or rather, it has become something that must be relearned. ____16____ The answer is certainly yes. Here are some tips as you take on the challenge of relearning to read.
Cut yourself off from social media.
Making time for relearning to read is no easy task when every extra hour is flooded with social media and other digital addictions. So instead of trying to find extra time in your daily routine, cut yourself off from these time-wasting distractions for a short period. This alone will leave your brain longing for something to do. ____17____
Read whatever material.
____18____ For example, you can begin with children’s science readers or illustrated texts to help the brain gradually readjust to sustained reading. Rediscover reading as entertainment and fun, and it becomes that much easier to get tuned back in.
Make relearning to read a part of your schedule.
Set specific times to start reading. ____19____ Or just start with 5, 10, or 15 minutes at a time to keep the barrier to entry low. As your brain rediscovers the habit, your sessions naturally become longer.
____20____
When there’s a break in the day, pull out your book instead of checking your social media. Turn waiting rooms into learning centers. Turn bus rides into a time to grow your brain. You’ll fall in love with reading before you know it.
In short, start your reading journey today and rebuild your brain’s ability to focus. In an era defined by speed, to relearn how to read deeply is, ultimately, to relearn how to think for ourselves.
A. Keep a book on you at all times.
B. Set clear goals for what you read each day.
C. And then you can fill that gap with reading.
D. Break your reading sessions up throughout the day.
E. You may wonder whether the effort is actually worth it, though.
F. Instead of forcing yourself through complicated books, start small.
G. Don’t you feel the scenes are not just two-dimensional pictures in your head?

Every day after school, Lucas and Noah pressed their noses against Mr. Henderson’s shop window. They stared at the red bicycle that stood proudly in the center of the display. For months, they had saved every spare coin, yet the price still seemed far beyond their reach.
When the first snow of winter covered their town, the brothers saw an opportunity. They grabbed their shovels (铲子), determined to turn the snowfall into savings through hard work.
They started in their own neighborhood. But many residents had already cleared their walkways, and those who hadn’t only offered a few coins for short paths. After several tiring hours, they had earned just seven dollars — far less than they hoped.
Refusing to give up, they headed to Maple Street, where the houses were bigger and the driveways deeper in snow. Noah knocked on the door of a beautiful Victorian house. Mrs. Williams answered, looking like she was in a hurry. When Noah asked if she needed her driveway shoveled, she agreed at once. She took a twenty-dollar bill from her purse and placed it into Noah’s hand.
“I have to rush out,” she said with an encouraging smile. “I’ll leave it in your capable hands.”
The boys stared at the bill, amazed. Twenty dollars — more than they had made the entire day! Laughing in disbelief, they set to work with fresh energy. The initial excitement carried them through the first hour of work. But as the afternoon darkened and the temperature dropped, the work became harder. Their hands grew numb (麻木), their muscles ached, and the long driveway seemed endless.
Halfway through, Lucas threw down his shovel in frustration (沮丧). “Let’s just go. She’ll never know we didn’t finish.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

B
【答案】4. B 5. C 6. A 7. D

【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第六段中““When you see something you like, maybe a lamp, you ask about something else instead. Then, as you walk out, you ask, ‘And how much is that lamp?’ as though you’d just noticed it and aren’t really that interested in it.”(“当你看到你喜欢的东西,比如一盏灯,你就问别的东西。然后,当你走出去的时候,你问,‘那盏灯多少钱?’就好像你刚刚注意到它,对它并不真正感兴趣。”)”可知,穆罕默德建议萨姆在看到喜欢的东西时,要向卖家询问其他东西,然后假装不经意地询问喜欢的东西的价格,即向卖家隐藏自己的真实偏好。故选C。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“I’d say the bottle is worth $10, at most. Clearly, his negotiating skills need a little work. “Just to get started, Dad,” Sam says to me as he pays for the bottle.(我想说这个瓶子最多值10美元。显然,他的谈判技巧还需要提高。“只是刚开始,爸爸,”萨姆一边付钱一边对我说。)”可知,作者认为萨姆买的瓶子最多值10美元,而萨姆花了24美元,由此可推知,作者认为萨姆的第一次谈判经历远不成功。故选A。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中““You need to come to Marrakech,” Mohamed told me. “I’ll show you around and teach Sam how to really get a bargain!” So here we are.(“你需要来马拉喀什,”穆罕默德告诉我。“我带你四处看看,教萨姆如何真正讨价还价!”所以我们来了。)”可知,文章主要讲述了作者带儿子萨姆到马拉喀什,朋友穆罕默德教萨姆讨价还价技巧及萨姆的首次尝试,因此选项D“The Art of the Deal(交易的艺术)”最符合文章主旨。故选D。

【答案】8. C 9. A 10. B 11.

Sichuan-style cuisine,be known for意为“因……而闻名”。
【37题详解】
考查宾语从句。句意:当食客们发现这些浓郁的味道与意大利葡萄酒搭配得如此完美,在东方美食和西方葡萄酒之间创造出一种独特的平衡时,他们常常感到惊讶。此处为宾语从句,作find的宾语,从句中不缺少主语和宾语,根据语境,此处表示“多么完美地搭配”,强调程度,所以用连接副词how引导。
【38题详解】

【答案】Dear judges and fellow students,
With technology advancing rapidly, driverless taxis have become a hot topic. As a representative of modern AI, they are gradually changing our way of commuting.
Undoubtedly, these smart vehicles have obvious advantages. They not only provide lower fares but also guarantee precise navigation without human fatigue. However, we cannot ignore their drawbacks. Technical failures may occur unexpectedly, and the privacy of passengers might be at risk. More importantly, the rise of machines could threaten the jobs of traditional drivers.
In my view, the benefits outweigh the risks. We should welcome innovation but ensure proper regulations are in place to protect public safety and employment.

【答案】参考范文(162词)
Noah’s aching hands seemed to agree with his brother’s words. For a moment, he stood frozen, torn between exhaustion and responsibility. Walking away meant warmth and rest, yet Mrs. Williams’ trusting smile appeared in his mind, reminding him of the confidence she had placed in them. He held the shovel tightly, bent down, and continued clearing the snow. Lucas watched him quietly and soon joined him without hesitation. Side by side, they worked through the bitter cold. In the fading light, the driveway slowly took shape under their steady effort.
As they cleared the final shovel of snow, Mrs. Williams’ car returned. She looked at the perfectly shoveled driveway with pleasant surprise and expressed genuine appreciation, saying that she had known they would keep their promise. A quiet warmth spread inside the boys. On the way home, Noah touched the twenty-dollar bill in his pocket. Their dream of the red bicycle felt a little closer, yet he realized that what they earned that day was far more valuable than money. The lesson about honesty would stay with them long after the snow melted.
