Dear Li Hua,
I'm glad to hear from you. Knowing that you want to start exercising but find it hard to stick to a plan, I'd like to share some tips based on my own experience.
First of all, start small. Instead of aiming for an hour of exercise right away, begin with just 15 minutes of jogging after school. The key is to make it a daily habit, not a one-time effort. Secondly, find a sport you actually enjoy. If you hate running, don't run—try badminton, swimming, or even dancing. When exercise is fun, you won't feel like giving up. Last but not least, find a workout partner. Exercising with a friend makes it more enjoyable and keeps you accountable.
I hope these suggestions help. Remember, every small step counts. Just get started—you'll feel the difference sooner than you think!
Yours,
Li Ming

Dear Headmaster,
I'm writing to suggest that our school add a 20-minute exercise break in the morning and afternoon.
As you know, we students sit for nearly eight hours a day. This sedentary lifestyle has caused many of us to feel tired and unfocused in class. Research shows that short exercise breaks can improve concentration and academic performance. My suggestion is to set aside 20 minutes after the second period for outdoor activities. Students could choose from skipping rope, jogging, playing basketball, or simply walking around the campus. Not only would this refresh our minds, but it would also help us stay physically active.
I hope you will take my suggestion into consideration. It would make a real difference to our health and learning.
Sincerely,
Li Ming

Dear Wang Fang,
I've noticed that you've been drinking a lot of milk tea and eating fast food lately. I'm a bit worried, because these habits can harm your health in the long run. Here are my suggestions.
First, why not replace the afternoon milk tea with a cup of plain water or freshly squeezed juice? You'll be surprised how refreshing it feels. Second, instead of ordering fried chicken for lunch every day, try bringing home-cooked meals to school. Not only are they healthier, but they also save money. Third, prepare some healthy snacks—like nuts, yogurt, or fruit—so you won't reach for chips when you feel hungry.
I know it's hard to change overnight, but even small adjustments can make a big difference. Let's eat healthier together!
Yours,
Li Ming

Dear Tom,
Thank you for your letter asking about how Chinese teenagers stay healthy. I'm happy to share with you.
In China, most students have PE classes twice a week, where we learn sports like basketball, volleyball, and martial arts. Besides that, many of us do morning exercises or run on the playground between classes. Personally, I play badminton with my friends every weekend—it's a great way to relax and stay fit. If you want to live a healthier life, I suggest you start with a sport you enjoy. The most important thing is to be consistent rather than to go too hard at the beginning.
I hope this gives you a picture of our life. What sports do students in your country usually do? I'd love to know!
Best wishes,
Li Ming

Dear fellow students,
Have you ever felt that your brain just stops working after hours of studying? I certainly have. But I've found a simple solution: exercise.
Let me share my story. Last semester, I spent every evening buried in textbooks, but my grades hardly improved. Then I started jogging for 20 minutes after school. To my surprise, my concentration in class improved significantly, and I could memorize things faster. Science backs this up—exercise increases blood flow to the brain and releases chemicals that make you feel more alert. So my advice is: don't skip PE class or give up sports for the sake of more study time. Twenty minutes of exercise could save you two hours of inefficient studying.
Let's move our bodies and sharpen our minds at the same time! Thank you.

Dear Xiao Wei,
Thank you for trusting me with your problem. I totally understand how you feel—it seems impossible to find time for exercise when exams are coming up. But believe me, it's not only possible, it's necessary.
Here's what worked for me. I use the "25+5" rule: after every 25 minutes of focused study, I stand up and do 5 minutes of simple exercises—stretching, jumping jacks, or just walking around the room. This keeps my body active without taking too much time. Also, I treat exercise as a reward, not a task. After finishing my homework, I go for a run to celebrate. In this way, I look forward to exercising instead of seeing it as a burden.
Balance isn't about giving equal time to everything. It's about finding a rhythm that works for you. Start with something tiny, and build from there.
You've got this!
Yours,
Li Ming

Dear cousin,
I heard that you've been spending a lot of time on your phone and computer lately. While it's fun to play games and watch videos, too much screen time can harm your eyesight and make you feel tired. Here are some suggestions.
First, set a daily screen time limit. You can use the built-in feature on your phone to track and limit your usage. Second, replace one hour of screen time with outdoor activities. Why not go cycling in the park, fly a kite, or simply take a walk around your neighborhood? The fresh air and sunshine will do wonders for your mood. Third, keep your phone out of your bedroom at night—this will help you sleep better.
I'm not asking you to give up your phone entirely. Just try to strike a better balance. Trust me, you'll feel so much better!
Love,
Li Ming

Dear Xiaoyu,
I heard you're thinking about joining a school club but haven't decided which one. May I suggest you try a sports club?
When I was your age, I was shy and spent most of my time alone. Joining the school basketball team changed everything. Through regular practice and matches, I not only became stronger physically, but also made some of my best friends. Sports taught me how to work with others, how to handle losing, and how to keep going when things get tough. These lessons are just as valuable as what you learn in class. I suggest you try a team sport—basketball, volleyball, or football. You don't need to be good at it from the start; what matters is showing up and giving it a try.
Let me know if you want me to go with you to sign up!
Your brother,
Li Ming

Dear fellow students,
Next month is our school's "Healthy Life Month," and as the Student Union president, I'd like to call on everyone to take an active part.
This year's theme is "Move More, Live Better." We have organized a variety of activities for you: a morning running club, a campus badminton tournament, a "Walk 10,000 Steps" challenge, and workshops on healthy eating. Our goal is not to make you athletes overnight, but to help you discover the joy of moving your body. Even if you've never exercised before, there's something here for you. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes and a willing heart.
Don't let this month pass like any other. Come join us, make new friends, and take the first step towards a healthier, happier you!
Let's move together!
The Student Union

Dear Mingming,
I'm writing because I'm genuinely worried about you. I know you've been avoiding PE class and sports activities because you feel self-conscious about your weight. Please let me tell you something important: you don't need to be thin to exercise. Exercise is for everyone.
Let me be honest with you—I used to feel the same way. I was afraid people would laugh at me when I ran. But here's what I discovered: nobody is watching. Everyone is too focused on their own workout to judge yours. Start with something gentle and private, like walking in the park or doing yoga at home. The goal is not to lose weight quickly; it's to feel stronger and happier in your own body. You deserve to feel good about yourself, and exercise can help with that.
I'll go with you if you want company. Just say the word. You're braver than you think.
With love,
Li Ming

1. 滥用 should/must
Why not... / You could... / It might help to... / Have you considered...
"You should exercise more"——这等于什么都没说。
Jog for 15 minutes after dinner every day."
I think you can do it bro"。
用 because / this will help / in this way 等连接词串起因果。
应为"Playing basketball helps you stay fit"。
