For many years I have been a proud dreamer. I could get lost in the clouds for hours, dreaming of ____26____ to far away countries and enjoying different cultures there. My dream ____27____: a bestselling author, changing people’s hearts with my words, or a reporter, serving the people and giving ____28____ to those who have not been heard for centuries.
I spend most of my time on dreaming. What’s the problem with spending so much time dancing among sunset-painted cotton candy clouds? Well, the ____29____ is that my bare feet seldom kiss the earth, and by being lost in my dreams often, I become ____30____ from my own real life and out of touch with the people I love.
“Stop dreaming. Be a doer not a dreamer,” the famous television producer Shonda Rhimes described in her ____31____ for the graduating class of Dartmouth. “You just have to keep doing something, catching the next chance, staying open to ____32____ something new. It doesn’t have to satisfy your imagination of the perfect job or the perfect life. Perfect is boring and dreams are not ____33____. Just…DO.”
One of the hardest lessons a dreamer has to learn is that in order to have the type of life we imagine so often, we must match our dreams with action. Otherwise, as Shonda puts it, “Dreamers often end up living in the basement (地下室) of relatives.”
Another hard truth that we dreamers must know is that by being lost in dreaming, we overlook (忽视) ourselves. We usually dream of becoming ____34____ else. We dream about the person who is not us, and this is a problem because it means we would rather be others instead of ourselves.
So, this is me waving goodbye to my cotton candy clouds. I am challenging myself to meet my dreams with action. It won’t be easy. Those light and soft clouds have been a great source of comfort through the endless thunder storms that have disrupted (打扰) my life. It’s comfortable.
However, as my best friend often ____35____ me, good things don’t always bring comfort, even hell (地狱) can get comfortable if you stay there long enough.
The best thing for us is challenging. It is a lot more meaningful than those cotton candy clouds.

Gever Tulley is a computer scientist from California. In 2005, he started a summer program called Tinkering School for children: The idea was that children can learn important skills for life by building things together. Gever Tulley and his team help the children to think big and create plans for innovative (有创造性的) things they want to build.
Children have made fantastic things since the school started. They have built a cabin. They have made tree houses, wooden motorbikes and boats.
At Tinkering School, children get all kinds of materials like wood, metal, plastic and ropes. They get lots of real tools too, such as knives, hammers and power drills. Tinkering School has been around for many years now, but nobody has ever suffered a serious injury in all these years. This is because there are strict health and safety rules they must follow. The children always learn how to use the tools safely and they must wear the right clothing and protection at all times.
Gever Tulley’s ideas have worked very well. A lot of children have gone to his summer school over the years. Since it started, Tinkering School has been written about a lot. Most of those articles have been very positive. They have praised the quality of the school. They have found the children are more motivated than at many other schools.
The students at Tinkering School seem to love their school. We spoke to 12-year-old Tina Cooper. She has been a student at the school for 2 months. “Since I started here, I’ve never sat in a ‘normal’ class with a teacher,” she told us. “But it’s been a very exciting experience. I’ve worked hard at my new school for 2 months now, and there hasn’t been one single moment when I found it boring. Before I started here. I was bored quite often.”

A. raise money for his research B. develop children’s skills for life
C. acquire the ability to work in a group D. help children make their dreams come true
40. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?

C. Children must follow strict health and safety rules.
D. The school offers children different kinds of materials.
41. The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refers to ________.
A. the idea B. the school C. the rule D. the summer
42. From what Tina Cooper said, we know that ________.
A. the teachers hardly stay with her in the new school
B. she studies hard and feels ashamed of herself there
C. she is getting more and more bored in her new school
D. she is happy with the experiences in her new school

Not long ago, two of my grandchildren came over for Sunday night family dinner. They walked in and made straight for the sofa to lie down. Aged 10 and 12, they pulled out their smartphones and started gaming.
It saddens me to watch them, and so many other kids today, consider gaming as play. When I was a kid, I knew how to play.
When I wanted a metal pedal car (踏板车) like some of my rich friends, my father made me one out of wood. It had wooden wheels and was pushed along the sidewalk using a broken hockey stick on the back. At first, I was ashamed of the homemade toy. But I soon began to like it when my friends all wanted a ride. Dad also built a huge playhouse and several tree houses. When I was older, he made me a high jump stand. Dad just loved building things or he really loved me, or maybe a little of both.
In my neighbourhood, we didn’t have much to play with. For entertainment, we had to get creative. We put up tents in the backyard and camped out. At night, we looked for adventures on the streets. We once went on a week-long bike trip to Lake Huron.
My grandchildren have no idea how much fun these activities can be. That Sunday night, after dinner, I decided to take them outside to show them “something different”.
The first response was, ① “Why did we have to put our shoes on and go outside?” “Because I wanted to show you something,” I said and picked up my frisbee (飞盘). “I thought we could go outside and throw the frisbee around.”
② I got a slow and unwilling “Sure” for my efforts.
③ With some further unwillingness, we walked out into the street. Then we began throwing the frisbee back and forth badly. “Bend your wrist,” I instructed helpfully.
Slowly, we got the hang of it and hit the neighbour’s car only three times. It’s amazing how much a frisbee hurts when your fingers are cold, but we were making progress. ④ My grandson found three excuses to go inside. Each time, however, his grandma kicked him back out. ⑤ We played until the neighbour came to check on his car.
It was a great success, I think, but alas, you cannot win a war by winning just one battle.
43. How did the writer’s feelings change when he saw the wooden pedal car in Paragraph 3?
A. sad → excited B. excited → sad
C. ashamed → excited D. excited → ashamed
44. What does “something different” refer to?
A. Pulling out smartphones and starting gaming.
B. Going outside and throwing the frisbee around.
C. Making a high jump stand for his grandchildren.
D. Building a huge playhouse and several tree houses.
45. Which of the underlined sentences show grandchildren’s unwillingness?
A. ①② B. ①②③ C. ①②③④ D. ①②③④⑤
46. What will the writer be most likely to do later according to the passage?
A. He will buy a metal pedal car for grandchildren.
B. He will ask grandchildren to enjoy more outdoor fun.
C. He will join them pulling out smartphones and gaming.
D. He will keep throwing frisbee and hitting the neighbour’s car.
D
The Internet lets everyone share their ideas, seemingly creating a more open and colorful world. However, have you ever felt like you’re in your own small world? Everything you hear or see just makes you more sure of what you already think.
In fact, most people are now in what is called an “echo chamber”—also known as an information cocoon—a place where your own ideas keep coming back to you, and you don’t hear any different ones. This isn’t something new and it’s happening a lot more now.
Echo chambers are like “rooms” on the Internet where everyone agrees with you. Think about how people used to sit around a fire, telling stories that made everyone else all nod and smile. The Internet is our modern-day fire.
Social media platforms know exactly what we like. That’s thanks to very smart algorithms (算法). These algorithms watch what we do on the Internet to show us more information that matches our interests.
Being in an echo chamber makes us feel good. However, this can make our opinions and thinking very rigid (僵化的) and make it hard for us to understand people who think differently.
Luckily, there are ways to break free from echo chambers. One big step is to challenge ourselves by looking for information from different sources. Also, ask questions about where the information you’ve found comes from, double-check facts and be open-minded.
47. What does an “echo chamber” do to people?
A. It sends different voices to people. B. It makes people look and think much more widely.
C. It helps people improve their ideas. D. It mirrors their beliefs and prevents new thoughts.
48. How do “echo chambers” come into being?
A. Different people never think the same when facing problems.
B. Internet users don’t like new information provided by the Internet.
C. Online platforms destroy people’s interests by means of algorithms.
D. Algorithms pick information that matches people’s preferences.
49. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. How to meet challenges online. B. How to stay away from the Internet.
C. Ways to get out of echo chambers. D. The bad sides of echo chambers.
50. What is one way to break out of an echo chamber, according to the article?
A. Only talk to the people who agree with you on various matters.
B. Pay no attention to the ideas that are fairly different from yours.
C. Get information from different sources and check if it’s true.
D. On all occasions just follow what most of the people think.

例文:
Hello, everyone! I am so happy to share with you some methods for improving our memory.
First, have a balanced diet and get enough sleep. Eating healthy food like vegetables and fruits helps our brains. Sleeping seven to eight hours a night is also important. Second, when you learn something new, read it aloud. This makes your brain work harder and remember better. Third, review what you have learned in time. Don’t wait until the night before an exam. Go over your notes regularly. Finally, do exercise every day. Running, swimming or even walking can make your brain more active and improve memory.
Try these simple methods, and you will see a big difference. Thank you for listening!
