It’s all part of their therapy (疗法),” says Molly Cupka, the no-nonsense instructor and cheerleader for this community of courageous climbers. She started this program, called Up ENDing Parkinson’s, as a non-profit 12 years ago. There’s no cure for Parkinson’s disease, which usually affects mobility, coordination, balance, and even speech.Jon Lessin was diagnosed (诊断) in 2003.He was once an all-around athlete.About 12 years ago, he retired because of Parkinson’s disease. It was Lessin who first had that big idea to use rock climbing as a therapy for Parkinson’s disease.“I wanted to do big movement exercise,” he said.“And I found Molly Cupka at this gym.” Lessin proposed the idea to Molly Cupka, who runs the Sportrock Climbing Centers in Alexandria, Virginia. She thought it was worth a try, given the sport requires participants to plan ahead, and to know where to position their hands and feet.“I wish I could go into the brain and see what’s happening while people climb,” Molly Cupka said. There’s no evidence that climbing slows the progress of Parkinson’s disease, but Molly Cupka joined forces with Marymount University last year to study patients climbing for the first time.“We have people literally walking and carrying weights, you know, walking and looking, multitasking,” she said, The study found that, in so many words, if you climb, you may walk better. Marymount University’s Center for Optimal Aging studies on physical and psychosocial effects of rock climbing on individuals with Parkinson’s disease.Mark de Mulder, a musician and former director of the National Geospatial Program, doesn’t need a study to prove what climbing does for him.“It allows me to say, ‘All right, take that, Parkinson’s! I’m doing this!’ It just makes me feel stronger, and I’m fighting it.I’m doing something about it.” Many of the climbers have become friends who climb together several times a week, and they’ve become a support group, Parkinson’s Pals, who encourage each other. 4.How may people feel when seeing those with Parkinson’s disease rock climbing? However, a recent workout led to an epiphany : neglecting physical activity was actually worsening my condition. It appears that engaging in physical activity could be an effective strategy for managing my ADHD symptoms while I await a prescription refill. After a workout, my mind feels quieter, much like when I take my medication. This makes sense as ADHD drugs increase levels of a brain medical called noradrenaline (去甲肾上腺素), enhancing focus, memory, and impulse control.Exercise also increases this chemical. While these insights are promising, I’m not ready to stop my medication.Research on exercise and ADHD has mixed results.A 2023 review of 106 studies showed exercise significantly improves impulse control, attention, and task-switching in young people with ADHD.However, its impact on regulating emotions and working memory is less pronounced, and the benefits are even less for adults. In another study, 10 minutes of exercise improved impulse control in 82 adults with ADHD but had no effect on other symptoms. These findings suggest that exercise has a modest effect on ADHD but highlight additional benefits beyond physical health. The evidence is particularly strong for depression and anxiety.A 2023 review of nearly 300 trials involving over 15, 800 adults found physical activity as effective as talk therapy and medications in reducing symptoms. The benefit was stronger when combined with these treatments. Exercise may also alleviate symptoms of other mental health conditions, such as bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It appears protective as well.A 2018 study of over 12 million adults found that those who exercised experienced 43 percent fewer days of poor mental health than those who didn’t.The link was strongest for team sports, cycling, and aerobic and gym activities. I’m relieved to have found a strategy for managing my ADHD symptoms without medication.Even though exercising is the last thing I want to do when overwhelmed, I now realize its importance. The benefits of exercise for mental health are clear, and I’m committed to making it a priority in my life. 8.What does the underlined part “an epiphany” most likely mean in Paragraph 2? A.A rush resolution or decision. B.A sense of disappointment. C.A sudden realization or insight. D.A moment of great happiness. 根据画线单词后的“neglecting physical activity was actually worsening my condition. It appears that engaging in physical activity could be an effective strategy for managing my ADHD symptoms while I await a prescription refill”可知,此处描述的是作者在锻炼后的感悟,意识到忽视体育活动实际上使他的情况变得更糟。故选C项。 9.What role does exercise play according to the research findings presented in the passage? A.Exercise is a perfect replacement for ADHD medication. B.Exercise has no effect on mental health conditions other than ADHD. C.Exercise can complement medication in managing ADHD symptoms. D.Exercise benefits physical health more than obsessive-compulsive disorder. 根据第四段中的“A 2023 review of 106 studies showed exercise significantly improves impulse control, attention, and task-switching in young people with ADHD.”可知,锻炼对管理ADHD症状有积极作用,结合倒数第二段中的“Exercise may also alleviate symptoms of other mental health conditions, such as bipolar disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.”可知,锻炼对其他心理健康问题也有缓解作用,此外,结合尾段中的“I’m relieved to have found a strategy for managing my ADHD symptoms without medication.” 10.Which of the following best describes the author’s attitude towards exercise? D.Negative but disciplined. 根据尾段中的“Even though exercising is the last thing I want to do when overwhelmed, I now realize its importance.” 故选A项。 11.What can we learn from the experience with exercise and ADHD? A.Prevention is better than cure. B.Every cloud has a silver lining. C.A healthy outside starts from the inside. D.The body is a temple; The mind is a palace. D (2025·八省联考) Want to learn a new language or get A’s in college exams? Previous studies have shown that exercise can help stimulate the areas of the brain that convert (转换) new information into long-term memory.A new study has taken this information one step further and found the best time when exercise can help maximize learning. Building upon past research that found exercise releases biochemicals that improve mental function, scientists at Radboud University and the University of Edinburgh conducted a study to determine when exercise was most beneficial to learning. Participants—72 healthy male and female adults—were first asked to perform a computer test that challenged their visual and spatial learning. After the test, all of the subjects watched nature documentaries, but two-thirds of them also exercised.Half of the exercisers did circuit training on an exercise bike for 35 minutes immediately after the test. The other half did the same exercise but not until four hours after they had been tested. Two days later, all of the participants returned to the lab for a recall test, and they were connected to MRI (磁共振成像) machines to assess their brain activity. The participants who exercised four hours after taking the computer test were able to recall what they had learned most accurately.Their brainwaves also showed more consistent levels of activity, indicating that their brains were less taxed to remember what they had learned. According to this research, the best time to exercise to improve learning is four hours after studying. But why? That’s one question the researchers have yet to answer.Another question left unanswered is the level of exercise that might best improve learning.I’ve run enough marathons to prove the fact that my brain is anything but sharp during or after a tough workout. But the researchers noted that light workouts might not give the brain enough of a biochemical boost to improve learning. 12.What did the new study aim to explore? A.When exercise is best for learning. B.What biochemicals are good for health. C.How brainwaves should be measured. D.Which area of the brain is the most active. 根据第一段中“A new study has taken this information one step further and found the best time when exercise can help maximize learning.” 故选A项。 13.What were all the participants asked to do during the experiment? A.Train on bicycles. B.Do mathematics exercises. C.Play computer games. A.The findings of the study are reliable. B.Long-distance runners are often smart. C.Studies on the marathon are not enough. D.Hard exercise may not sharpen the brain. 根据最后一段中“I’ve run enough marathons to prove the fact that my brain is anything but sharp during or after a tough workout.” Ⅱ.阅读七选五(每小题2.5分,共12.5分) (2025·湖北省新高考联考协作体高三一模) Watching TV, in general, can help to improve your mental health. 1 .Moreover, if friends or family accompany the viewer, watching sports becomes a shared experience and social activity.Connecting with and enjoying others’ company, while viewing sports, can prevent feelings of loneliness. Professor Alan Pringle, a mental health nursing specialist at the University of Nottingham, explains men tend to contain their emotions.Because in a lot of cultures, it’s often seen as inappropriate or unusual for men to exhibit emotions such as crying, laughter, or affection. However, sports such as football offer a safe space for men to hug other fans or cry tears of joy without the fear of being judged. 2 . Maybe you haven’t played in the NBA, or won the World Cup, but perhaps the team you chose to support has! And from this, fans feel a sense of success.Feeling a sense of victory, even if indirectly, is precious, particularly if you’re experiencing troubling times.Life is always full of constant ups and downs. 3 .Thus, gaining a sense of accomplishment by watching our sports team win can help boost the all-important feeling of success. From meeting deadlines at work to running a critical task, most people have to cope with an abundance of stress every day.To effectively manage your stress levels, taking regular breaks to unwind and have fun is vital. 4 .Switching on the sports game allows people to switch off their stress-increasing thoughts. As a result, individuals gain a sense of calm and happiness. 5 .That’s where other forms of modern entertainment might fail. After all, sports have a deeply rooted heritage that people of all ages can learn and take joy in.For example, older generations may not be too interested in playing shooter games with their grandchildren. However, they may take pleasure from watching cricket (板球) with younger members interested in the sport. A.Sports is a healthy distraction B.Sports can fill a gap between generations C.Too much stress can cause you to burn out D.The road to attaining success is also often challenging E.Therefore, watching sport can be a healthy emotional outlet F.Everybody can take part in sports guessing, chat, cheer and have fun G.But sports can bring about relaxed feelings in the viewer in particular 【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。 1.答案:G 解析:根据下文“Moreover, if friends or family accompany the viewer, watching sports becomes a shared experience and social activity.” 2.答案:E 解析:根据上文“However, sports such as football offer a safe space for men to hug other fans or cry tears of joy without the fear of being judged.” 3.答案:D 解析:根据上文“Life is always full of constant ups and downs.”及下文“Thus, gaining a sense of accomplishment by watching our sports team win can help boost the all-important feeling of success.” 4.答案:A 解析:根据上文“To effectively manage your stress levels, taking regular breaks to unwind and have fun is vital.”及下文“Switching on the sports game allows people to switch off their stress-increasing thoughts.” 故选A。 5.答案:B 解析:根据下文“That’s where other forms of modern entertainment might fail. After all, sports have a deeply rooted heritage that people of all ages can learn and take joy in.” 阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共20分) A (2025·江西省萍乡市高三下一模) Before joining Washington D.C.-based District Running Collective, Fallon Jones wasn’t a runner.“We were doing CrossFit then—there’s this group of people who run up the street,” says Jones. She was attracted after her first run with the group the following week.“I was in the slower pace group, but everybody was there at the end to cheer me on,” she adds. The first known running club, the Thames Hare and Hounds, was established in 1868 in London, promoting the sport as a social activity.Over the decades, running clubs have spread across Europe and North America, initially attracting competitive runners but gradually appealing to a broader audience seeking support, motivation and friendship. In recent years, online platforms have allowed runners to connect, making running more accessible and inclusive. Nowadays, conversational running is becoming a trend.Conversational running, which refers to maintaining a pace at which you can comfortably speak as you move, is often associated with Zone 2 training, which involves an intensity of 60—70 percent of your maximum heart rate.Kristen Hislop, a certified running coach, says people often struggle to achieve this pace though it doesn’t feel like an “ arduous ” workout; it’s often much slower than you’d anticipate.“But while it isn’t especially challenging, doing low-intensity exercise regularly can build endurance (耐力) so you’ll be able to go longer and further,” says Hislop.“You’re also going to recover faster and reduce your risk of injuries.” Conversational running is also good for your relationships.“If you’re near somebody but not necessarily facing them eye to eye, you might be more willing to express yourself or you might just feel a little bit less shy,” says Rachel Goldberg, a licensed family therapist who incorporates walk-and-talk sessions into her practice. This can lead to deeper conversations and stronger connections. Despite the benefits of running with others, finding the right run club to fit your needs is crucial.Jones knew her club was the right fit after her first outing.“They did a really good job in explaining the different pace groups,” she says.“As someone who’s approaching 40, it has been a blessing to find friends of all ages here at this stage in life.” 1.What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A.The popularity of running clubs. B.The origin of conversational running. C.The development of running clubs. D.The advances in fitness technologies. 根据第二段开头提到“The first known running club, the Thames Hare and Hounds, was established in 1868 in London, promoting the sport as a social activity.”接着又说“Over the decades...making running more accessible and inclusive.” 2.What does the underlined word “arduous” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Exceptional. B.Annual. C.Rewarding. D.Tough. 3.What does Rachel Goldberg say about conversational running? A.It is a high-intensity exercise. B.It makes people willing to open up. C.It frees people of work stress. D.It enhances people’s mental clarity. 4.What attracts Jones best about District Running Collective? A.Its capability to group. B.Its access to local cultures. C.Its promising future. D.Its obvious health benefits. 故选A项。 B (2025·山东省泰安市高三下二模) Chances are that you don’t regularly lift weights.Nor do you likely have a resistance band exercise or do squats (深蹲) while watching TV.But you may need to reconsider.Strength training, whether performed with weights, bands, machines or your own body weight, is important for your long-term health. Also known as resistance training, it increases muscular strength, endurance and bone density. These exercises also decrease the risk of falls and breaks as you age, thus promoting independent living, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That’s why the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends adults do muscle-strengthening activities two or more days per week, working all major muscle groups with a higher level. Unfortunately, a mere 30.2% of Americans meet these guidelines, according to a 2017 data analysis published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. In the same study, nearly 60% of participants said they did no strength training at all.The guideline emphasizes that strength training is especially vital for those over 65, as it fights sarcopenia (肌肉萎缩) and enhances daily functionality. It also notes that no equipment is inherently superior—effectiveness depends on individual goals.Short, intense sessions multiple times a week can get significant benefits. Resistance training also varies by locale, according to a 2020 analysis of National Health Interview Survey data.Specifically, those living in larger metropolitan(大都市的)areas and in the West US Census Bureau region were more likely to meet the CDC’s physical activity guidelines than those in less populated areas and other regions. It’s not enough to advocate for exercise. We won’t reach those who are the most sedentary (久坐).We need to build physical activity and exercise into the environment. We need to have green areas, and we need to have more outdoor gyms, maybe more physical activity in school. It has to be easier to take the stairs instead of the lift. That perspective is important if you really want to change public health. 5.What can be inferred according to Paragraph 1? A.Most Americans like to work out for strength training. B.Resistance training can be carried out in several forms. C.It’s not effective for you to exercise while watching TV. D.Muscle strengthening activities don’t need to be intense. 根据第一段“Strength training, whether performed with weights, bands, machines or your own body weight, is important for your long-term health.” B。 6.Why is strength training crucial for people over 65? A.It helps them lose weight faster. B.It directly extends their lifespan. C.It improves their physical function. D.It realizes their individual goal effectively. 根据第二段“The guideline emphasizes that strength training is especially vital for those over 65, as it fights sarcopenia(肌肉萎缩)and enhances daily functionality.” C。 7.What factor could improve public health outcomes? A.Banning lifts to force stair use. B.Transforming daily exercise in schools. C.Reducing healthcare costs for the elderly. D.Building more outdoor gyms and green spaces. 根据最后一段“We need to build physical activity and exercise into the environment. We need to have green areas, and we need to have more outdoor gyms...” D。 8.What is the main purpose of the passage? A.To compare different strength-training methods. B.To criticize Americans for ignoring exercise guidelines. C.To stress the critical role of strength training in long-term health. D.To promote briefly the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. Ⅱ.阅读七选五(每小题2.5分,共12.5分) (2025·河南省信阳市二模) Often when my family travels to a natural place like a national park I say to my husband, “While we’re there, I want to make sure we climb a thing.” By setting this vague agenda, I mean I want to get out into nature and experience any “thing”, usually through a hike. 1 Emotional Well-Being We can’t have physical health without mental health, and hiking delivers on both.Emotionally, a hike challenges us to persevere and follow a path wherever it may lead. 2 And of course, being in natural spaces inspires us to feel awe, the sense that there are forces larger than us at work in the world. Heart Health Heart disease and high blood pressure are killers in this country, but hiking is a way to build cardiovascular (心血管的) health.A simple walk increases the rate of our breathing, which benefits our hearts and lungs. 3 Strength and Balance 4 But even a stroll down a gentle wooded path requires us to pay attention to where our feet are landing. To keep our balance when climbing past roots, stones and dips in the landscape, we need core and leg strength. It literally contributes to our overall health in ways ranging from preventing back pain to keeping weight off. Stronger Relationships The safest way to hike is with a friend or companion, in case one of you stumbles or needs a hand. 5 The National Park Service puts it this way: “Because hiking ranges in difficulty from an extremely challenging climb to a casual way of spending time outside, it’s a great way to strengthen the friendships or bonds you have with your companions.” When the outdoors is the safest place to gather with loved ones, why not combine your social connections with physical activity and hit the trail together?
