When I was twelve, my family took me to Luoyang to visit my grandparents during the Spring Festival. On the second day, Grandma smiled and said, “Tonight, we’re taking you to taste something very special—the Luoyang Water Banquet.”
I had never heard of a “water banquet” before. Was it a meal served on a boat? I was curious.
We arrived at an old restaurant decorated with red lanterns. Soon, dishes began to arrive one after another. First came eight cold dishes. Then the hot dishes started. I noticed something unusual—every hot dish was served in a big bowl with lots of soup! There was tender meat floating in a light, peppery broth. There were soft meatballs in clear soup. And then came the most famous dish: Peony Swallow Dish. Thin slices of white radish were cut to look like flower petals, swimming in a golden soup that tasted both sour and a little spicy. It looked like a beautiful peony flower blooming in the bowl.
“Why is it called a Water Banquet?” I asked my grandpa.
He put down his chopsticks and explained, “There are two reasons. First, all the hot dishes come with soup, just like flowing water. Second, the dishes are served continuously, one bowl after another, just like water running downstream. In total, there are twenty-four courses!”
As I tasted each bowl, I felt the warmth spread through my body on that cold winter night. The flavors were gentle but unforgettable. Grandpa said the Water Banquet has a history of over a thousand years. It began in the Tang Dynasty when Luoyang was the capital of China.
I didn’t just fill my stomach—I tasted a piece of living history. I understood the Water Banquet was more than just a meal. The steaming soup and the endless bowls told a story of Luoyang’s long history.

In the age of booming (迅猛发展的) social media, many young people are used to “fast socializing”; adding hundreds of friends online, exchanging empty greetings, and joining meaningless group chats. Some have thousands of online friends but no one to talk to when feeling bad. But in recent years, more and more young people in China are turning to “slow socializing”, and freely giving up those meaningless social connections.
Slow socializing means building deep relationships with a small group of like-minded people, focusing on (关注) real, heart-to-heart communication. For example, instead of sending a copied holiday greeting to many contacts (联系人), you have a face-to-face talk with a close friend or read a book with a like-minded person.
Many young people say fast socializing only brings them growing nervousness and a sense of emptiness. They spend much time online but still feel lonely when they are in trouble. However, slow socializing brings them a strong sense of safety and belonging. They no longer pursue (追求) the number of friends on their social accounts, but focus on building real, heart-to-heart connections with people who truly understand them. A 2025 national survey found that over 68% of young people aged 16-25 prefer slow socializing, and most of them have better mental health than those who prefer fast socializing.
The writer holds that slow socializing is not refusing to make friends, but choosing the right way to connect with others. It helps young people avoid social chaos (混乱) and focus on what really matters.
根据材料内容选择最佳答案。
31. What makes fast socializing popular among young people?
A. It helps build deep friendships. B. It takes a lot of time every day.

32. Which activity is an example of slow socializing?
A. Liking many posts on WeChat. B. Joining a book club with classmates.
C. Sending the same message to 50 contacts. D. Following celebrities on Douyin.
33. How does the writer show the advantages of slow socializing?
A. By telling a personal story. B. By asking readers questions.
C. By comparing two social ways. D. By showing pictures of friends.
34. What can we learn from the 2025 survey in Paragraph 3?
A. Slow socializing is only for shy people.
B. Most young people will stop using social media.
C. Having fewer friends may lead to better mental health.
D. Having good friends is better than having many friends.
35. Which is the best title of the passage?
A. Social Media: Help or Harm? B. More Friends, More Fun?

Nancy 15 years old
Last Sunday, I finished reading Return to the Wolves for our reading activity.
In 2010, Li Weiyi saved a weak baby wolf and named him Green. She raised him with great care, but finally realized that Green belonged to the wild. She lived on the grassland with him for months, teaching him to hunt and survive alone, until Green successfully returned to nature.
I was deeply touched by this story. This experience taught me that true love is not keeping, but respecting. We should protect wild animals, respect life and live in peace with nature. I really like the book.

C. It’s easy to connect with many people. D. It needs face-to-face communication.
C. Slow Socializing: Real Connections Matter. D. Young People’s Lives Today.

【34题详解】
