Delilah was born in London, the capital city of England in 1968. When he was twelve years old, he went to Paris with an uncle. There, he finished his studies in marketing. After working as a casting director for nine years, Delilah got a job at Rue Dieulafoy. It is a popular place in Paris and many Parisian fashion designers like to go there.
While working there and watching the customers, Delilah came up with the idea of making clothes for the European market. He wanted to give new life to the clothes that were sold in Africa. This idea started to become real. The England designer opened his first showroom. There, he began to sell his own brand of products. If you look carefully at the clothes in his showroom, you can see how special his design process is. He takes the clothes that come to Africa from Europe and the US through charities. Then he gives them a new look and sells them in France.
Every year, a large amount of clothes are sent from Europe and the US to Africa. Just Italy sends more than 150 tonnes. The second-hand clothing market in Africa started because people wanted to help poorer countries. But it has two problems. First, many clothes can’t be used again. These clothes that no one buys make more waste. Second, since the late 1980s, too many second-hand clothes have come into the African market. This has made the African cloth industry face a big crisis and it is still having a hard time getting better.
Delilah goes to Africa several times a year to buy second-hand clothes. In fact, 95 percent of the clothes he makes come from the markets in London. “We don’t want to teach people with fashion. Instead, we want to show them what they can do with what they have. Give me the clothes and I’ll show you how to wear them without having to buy new ones,” he said.
The African designer’s words, which he said in an interview with the British broadcaster BBC, can show his idea.
4. What do you learn about Delilah from paragraph 1?
A. He helped his uncle at Rue Dieulafoy. B. He worked at a nice place in Paris.
C. He studied marketing for nine years. D. He became a casting director in London.
5. What is the idea behind Delilah’s clothing brand?
A. The use of different clothes. B. The jobs of fashion designers.
C. The importance of recycling. D. The value of good quality.
6. What can you infer about the second-hand clothes in Africa?
A. They are a good way to help poorer countries.
B. They have made the African industry grow fast.
C. They have made clothes environmentally friendly.
D. They have done no good to the African economy.
7. What is the main aim of this text?
A. To tell the story of an excellent designer. B. To encourage more designers to be creative.
C. To analyze the result of second-hand clothes. D. To help a designer’s fashion business grow.

The Internet is full of such tips that say some mushrooms have magical effect on health. A kind of fungi called “adaptogenic” (helping the body deal with stress) and “nootropic” (improving cognitive function) is popular now online. A market research firm reports that mentions of mushrooms have risen on major social platforms in the past two years, and that the Internet searches for “mushroom coffee” have risen by 1,000% since 2022.
Products are popping up to meet the demand. Supermarkets sell mushroom chocolates and sweets, while many brands add mushrooms to relaxing drinks or offer related drinks and fruit juices. Some companies provide multi-flavor mushroom powder, and mushroom chocolate makers suggest eating a piece before bed can be good for better sleep or more emotional health. These products are especially popular with health-conscious young people, who are eager to try food that boosts energy or immunity (免疫力).
Yet these food-labelled products have little regulation on their so-called medicinal ingredients (成分), and scientists hold a practical view on their benefits. Nicholas Money, a professor at Miami University in Oxford, says there is no medicinal proof that mushroom drinks work as advertised for humans. For example, mushrooms may help nerve cell growth in lab tests and mouse healing, but this does not prove it improves human brain power. He also added that drug companies would invest heavily if there were real evidence.
In short, these mushrooms are better enjoyed as food — like mushrooms in Asian soups, which tastes delicious. Remember never to pick wild mushrooms yourself, or you may mistake poisonous ones for the supposed healthy kind.
8. What can we know from the first paragraph?
A. All mushrooms boost brain power.
B. The Internet searches of mushrooms have risen since 2022.
C. The Internet mentions of mushrooms have decreased.
D. Mushrooms have no health benefits.
9. What can we infer from what Nicholas Money says?
A. Current mushroom products are overpriced.
B. Drug research is unreliable.
C. The scientific proof about mushroom drinks is lacking.
D. Mushrooms are already used in medicine.
10. What advice is given regarding wild mushrooms?
A. Considering their commercial values.
B. Pick them to improve sleep and mood.
C. Use them as medicine or treatment.
D. Avoid picking poisonous ones.
11. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Magical Mushrooms: Food or Medicine?
B. How to Use Mushrooms to Keep Healthy?
C. The Popularity of Mushroom Coffee.
D. Different Kinds of Eatable Mushrooms.
B 9. C 10. D 11. A
根据第一段中“A market research firm reports that mentions of mushrooms have risen on major social platforms in the past two years, and that the Internet searches for “mushroom coffee” have risen by 1,000% since 2022.(一家市场调研机构称,近两年各大社交平台上有关蘑菇的相关讨论热度持续攀升,自 2022 年起,“蘑菇咖啡”的网络搜索量更是暴涨十倍。)”
根据第三段中“Nicholas Money, a professor at Miami University in Oxford, says there is no medicinal proof that mushroom drinks work as advertised for humans.(牛津市迈阿密大学教授尼古拉斯・莫尼表示,目前没有任何医学证据能够证实,各类蘑菇饮品能达到宣传中所说的人体养生效果。)”
根据最后一段中“Remember never to pick wild mushrooms yourself, or you may mistake poisonous ones for the supposed healthy kind.(记住永远不要自己采摘野生蘑菇,否则你可能会把有毒的误认为是所谓的健康品种。)”
D
Bosses are increasingly cutting jobs while boasting about their AI initiatives. Last month, a computer company announced 5,000 job cuts in three years as the firm integrates AI into all its work, and the head of a Dutch bank announced major lay-offs the same day, saying the bank is using AI to boost client services and cut costs.
Up to now, there is little proof that AI is greatly changing the labour market, but this may change with its wider use. Many researchers have tried to find out which jobs are most in danger.
Computer programming is the first field affected. A survey from an online forum shows about two-thirds of programmers use AI tools at least weekly. A well-known tech company’s coding tool has 26 million global users, and an AI model developer says one-third of the questions to its chatbot are about programming. Customer service is the second. A research finds 85% of customer service managers plan to try AI this year. Big companies in different industries are applying AI to their customer service work. Investment companies also support AI start-ups for this field.
What connects these two jobs? Let’s start with their work nature. Both include a lot of repetitive tasks. And the tasks of programmers and customer service agents are usually “context-light” — they don’t need a deep understanding of the company to do the work. These tasks are also “easily verifiable”: Programmers can test code (代码) to make sure it works, and supervisors can check if customers’ problems are solved and how satisfied they are after communication.
Another reason AI thrives in these two fields is the large amount of data for training AI models. The coding tool mentioned earlier has a huge code library to learn from, and customer service departments have years of conversation records. Besides, both fields are big targets for AI companies, which drives more investment in customized AI software.
With AI costs falling and its application expanding, more white-collar roles stand to be impacted by this technological shift in the time ahead.
12. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3?
A. Two specific fields affected by AI.
B. Ways to improve AI for programming.
C. Reasons for AI’s popularity.
D. Data about AI development in industries.
13. What is one key feature of the tasks in programming and customer service?
A. Requiring deep company knowledge.
B. Being hard to check the results.
C. Having repeated work content.
D. Needing creative thinking.
14. What does the underlined word “thrives” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Fails quickly. B. Exists long. C. Spreads slowly. D. Develops well.
15. How does the author develop the argument in the text?
A. By comparing AI’s impact across different continents.
B. By giving data, examples and reasons.
C. By sharing personal experiences.
D. By offering various views.
A 13. C 14. D 15. B
根据第二段中“Many researchers have tried to find out which jobs are most in danger. (众多研究人员一直在探究哪些职业最容易受到冲击。)”和第三段中“Computer programming is the first field affected.(计算机编程是第一个受影响的领域。)”和“Customer service is the second.(客户服务是第二个。)”
根据第四段中“Both include a lot of repetitive tasks.(两者都包含大量重复性任务。)”
根据第五段中“Another reason AI thrives in these two fields is the large amount of data for training AI models.(AI在这两个领域thrives另一个原因是有大量数据可用于训练AI模型。)”
第三段中“A research finds 85% of customer service managers plan to try AI this year. (一项研究发现,85%的客服行业管理者计划在今年尝试使用人工智能。)”通过列举数据来展开论证;第一段中“Last month, a computer company announced 5,000 job cuts in three years as the firm integrates AI into all its work, and the head of a Dutch bank announced major lay-offs the same day, saying the bank is using AI to boost client services and cut costs.(上个月,一家计算机公司宣布,随着人工智能全面融入各项业务,将在三年内裁员五千人;同日,一家荷兰银行高管也宣布大规模裁员,称该行正借助人工智能优化客户服务、缩减开支。)” 和第五段中“Another reason AI thrives in these two fields is the large amount of data for training AI models.(AI在这两个领域发展得好另一个原因是有大量数据可用于训练AI模型。)”

How to Stop Laughing at Inappropriate Times
Although laughing at inappropriate times can be embarrassing, it’s actually a natural reaction for some people when they’re facing a highly stressful situation. It can help you relieve stress and release your own tension. ___16___ Here are some ways to stop laughing.
Distract yourself from your urge to laugh.
It takes time to learn how to curb your tendency to laugh, but distraction is an easy way to stop yourself, in the meantime. For example, you can pinch yourself. The slight pain will distract you from your urge to laugh. ___17___ Choose any color and see how many places you can spot it in the area. This small goal will shift your focus from laughter and your emotions.
___18___
What can you do instead of laughing nervously? For example, nod, lick your lips, exhale slowly, or click a pen. What you decide to replace your laughter with depends on the circumstances that are causing your laughter. For example, you may laugh nervously during work meetings. ___19___ If you tend to laugh at serious moments, take a deep breath at moments when you’d typically laugh.
Identify what makes you laugh inappropriately.
Do you laugh out of nervousness, or do you laugh to cope with painful feelings? Maybe you laugh because you have a lot of energy or have trouble finding the words you want to say. Whatever your reasons for laughing, write down when your laughter is causing you issues. Consider the time, location, occasion, and people who could be causing your laughter. These are called your triggers. ___20___
A. Create a plan for replacing your laughter.
B. Choose replacement behaviors for the laughter.
C. You can also look for a certain color in the room.
D. Tell yourself, “The next time I feel awkward in a work meeting, I will click my pen.”
E. Once you know what they are, you can begin to address your habit of laughing.
F. But the inappropriate laughter may negatively affect your life.
G. If this is the case, click your pen instead of laughing.
F 17. C 18. B 19. G 20. E

It can help you relieve stress and release your own tension(尽管在不合适的时候笑可能会让人尴尬,但这实际上是一些人在面临高度压力时的自然反应。 F选项“But the inappropriate laughter may negatively affect your life.(但不恰当的笑可能会对你的生活产生负面影响。)”
根据本段段旨“Distract yourself from your urge to laugh. (分散你想笑的冲动。)”可知,本段主要介绍的是分散注意力的途径;同时根据后文“Choose any color and see how many places you can spot it in the area. This small goal will shift your focus from laughter and your emotions.( 选择任何一种颜色,看看你能在多少地方发现它。这个小目标会把你的注意力从欢笑和情绪上转移开。)”可知,此处强调通过在房间中寻找颜色,看多少地方发现某种颜色的方式转移注意力。C选项“You can also look for a certain color in the room.(你也可以在房间里寻找某种颜色。)”
该空时本段的小标题,根据后文的内容“What can you do instead of laughing nervously? (除了紧张地笑,你还能做什么呢?)”可知,本段讲述的是代替笑的一些其他的做法。B选项“Choose replacement behaviors for the laughter.(选择笑声的替代行为。)”
根据前文的“For example, you may laugh nervously during work meetings. (例如,你可能会在工作会议上紧张地笑。)”可知,此处强调的是在开会的时候可能会紧张地笑,后文应该针对这种情况提出解决办法。G选项“If this is the case, click your pen instead of laughing.(如果是这种情况,点击你的笔,而不是笑。)”
根据本段段旨“Identify what makes you laugh inappropriately.( 找出让你笑得不恰当的原因。)” E选项“Once you know what they are, you can begin to address your habit of laughing.( 一旦你知道它们是什么,你就可以开始解决你笑的习惯了。)”

My sister and I are twins. People say that the sisters are very close, but the two of us are not like sisters. We always quarrelled with each other until the day which I would remember forever.
It was a Monday morning. Because we slept too late the night before, we got up a little late. After getting up, we quickly packed up the books and school supplies for the class. At the urging of our mother, we hurriedly took a few bites of breakfast and got in the car to school. On the way to school, our mother criticized us, “You two should go to bed on time and pack school supplies and textbooks one night in advance. If you don’t bring textbooks or school supplies because of getting up late, I won’t send them to school.” My sister and I nodded.
Unfortunately, I really forgot something of great importance. After coming to the classroom, the art teacher said that she would check the watercolor pens in the afternoon. I was anxious because I found I left them at home.
Seeing this, the art teacher said to me seriously, “You must have the pens during my class. Otherwise, I have to talk to your head teacher and your parents.” The words made me even more anxious. Remembering the words of my mother, I realized I had to find another way to get the watercolor pens. But what should I do? No one was willing to lend me as they also needed the watercolor pens. I tried many ways, but the problem wasn’t solved. Suddenly, a thought flashed through my mind: I could borrow some from my sister, who was not in the same class with me.
Thinking of this, I hurried to my sister’s classroom and called my sister out loud at the classroom door.

On the way back to the classroom, I gradually calmed down.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Thinking of this, I hurried to my sister’s classroom and called my sister out loud at the classroom door. I explained my awkward situation nervously and asked to borrow her watercolor pens. At first, she stared at me in surprise, for we had quarreled only the day before. I thought she would refuse me without hesitation. However, after a moment of silence, she nodded gently. She took out her favorite watercolor pens and handed them to me, saying she could share a set with her deskmate in the afternoon. Her kindness instantly warmed my anxious heart.
On the way back to the classroom, I gradually calmed down. I felt extremely guilty for our endless quarrels over trivial things these days. My sister always tolerated my bad temper, yet I never cherished our sisterhood. This small incident made me realize that family bond is the most precious treasure. From that day on, I stopped arguing with her. Instead, we learn to understand and support each other, becoming the close twin sisters that everyone admires.
