Passage 2
(25-26八下·广东广州市增城区·阶段检测)
Have you ever tried to enjoy a painting without looking at it? Or read a guide by using hands? For the blind (盲人), this is their daily challenge. But now, more and more museums in China are trying to help.
Take the Guangdong Museum for example. Last year, it added Braille guides (盲文导览) for blind visitors. These guides have raised dots that can be read by touching. Blind people can now “read” the introduction of each artwork by themselves. The museum also provides audio guides with clear and slow descriptions for visitors who have difficulty seeing.
For deaf visitors, the museum offers sign language videos. These videos explain the history of each exhibit in a way that is easy to follow. Some museums even have special apps on mobile phones. Deaf visitors can scan a QR code and watch a sign language interpreter on their phone screen.
Why do museums do all these? “Culture belongs to everyone and we want everyone to enjoy the beauty of art and history.” said a worker at the museum.
These changes may seem small, but they make a big difference. When everyone can visit a museum freely, the world becomes a little warmer.
1.What did the Guangdong Museum add for blind visitors last year?
2.How do blind people read the Braille guides?
3.Who can benefit from the audio guides mentioned in the passage?
4.Where can deaf visitors watch sign language videos according to the passage?
5.Why do museums provide these special services for people with disabilities?

Artificial intelligence (人工智能), or AI for short, has become an important part of our daily life. It is certain that AI will have a great influence on education in the next few years. Let’s see how.
The role of teachers
What will the role of teachers be in this robotic classroom of the future? Many teachers worry that AI will take their position. Actually, human teachers will always be needed to manage the classroom environment and to encourage students. A large part of education for children is teaching them social-emotional skills. While AI programs have proven they can teach students to read and solve math problems, teaching social-emotional skills is more complex (复杂的). That kind of learning needs the human touch that only teachers can provide.
Classrooms
Certain tasks can be made easier through the use of AI. Grading (评分), for example, can be done quickly and easily by using AI. In the future, some believe AI will even be able to tell if students are having problems with a certain subject based on their facial (面部的) expressions. AI can also provide a chance of receiving an education for those who have hearing problems or are unable to speak the local language.
AI outside the classroom
AI in education is extending (延伸) outside the classroom, too. The technology is also being used to help students to prepare for tests, such as college entrance exams. It can also help them do their homework.
Has your school used AI? Do you think AI is the future of education?
1.How soon will AI have a great influence on education?
2.Why are many teachers worried about the appearance of AI?
3.What is it that only teachers can provide for learning social-emotional skills?
4.How can AI benefit the people with hearing problems?
5.What can AI help students to do outside the classroom besides their homework?

Disney’s Zootopia 2 has become a huge success in the Chinese mainland. By Sunday afternoon, it had earned over 3.8 billion yuan at the box office (票房). It is now the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film in China, only behind Avengers: Endgame. Its box office in China is nearly twice that in North America and makes up almost half of its global total, which clearly shows China’s important role in the world’s film market.
Many Chinese audience members love this film deeply. Why is it so popular? First, Shanghai Disneyland has a special Zootopia-themed area, and it just celebrated its second anniversary. Second, the film adds many Chinese cultural elements, like Chinese zodiac signs. For example, the new character Gary De’Snake was created because this year is the Year of the Snake. Also, many Chinese people are touched by Judy Hopps’ story of following her dream in a big city, especially those who live in fast-growing cities. The filmmakers even changed the script to match Chinese culture and funny style better.
Zootopia 2’s success tells us that good quality and cultural resonance (共鸣) are the keys to winning Chinese fans for Hollywood films. It also helps improve cultural understanding between China and the US, since films can build bridges and share common values like friendship and never giving up.
1.How much had Zootopia 2 earned at the box office in the Chinese mainland by Sunday afternoon?
2.What does the box office of Zootopia 2 in China show?
3.Why was the new character Gary De’Snake created?
4.How do many Chinese people feel about Judy Hopps’ story?
5.According to the passage, what are the keys for Hollywood films to win Chinese fans?

Wild animals are our friends, and they play a key role in keeping the balance of nature. However, more and more animals are becoming endangered nowadays. According to a report, over 28,000 species (物种) are at risk of disappearing forever. The main reasons are habitat loss, illegal hunting, and pollution. For example, elephants are hunted for their ivory, and tigers are killed for their fur.
To protect endangered animals, many countries have set up nature reserves where animals can live safely. Laws have been made to stop illegal hunting and trading of animal products. Also, many organizations are working to raise people’s awareness about animal protection.
We can do our part too: we can refuse to buy products made from endangered animals, reduce pollution, and join volunteer activities to protect them.
As human beings, we should value every life on Earth. Animals are important to nature, and they keep the balance of our planet. If they die out, our world will be less beautiful and less lively. Let’s work together to protect wild animals and build a better home for all living things.
1.How many species are at risk of disappearing forever according to the report?
2.What are the main reasons for animals becoming endangered?
3.Why are elephants hunted?
4.What have countries done to protect endangered animals?
5.What can we do to protect endangered animals?
Passage 6

“No print, no year” is a well-known saying in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. The “print” here means Taohuawu Woodblock (木版) New Year Prints, a special kind of nianhua, or New Year pictures. It has been over 20 years since one of its inheritors, Sun Yibo, has worked on Taohuawu prints.
“Though it is generally seen as a kind of nianhua, Taohuawu Prints not only show the traditional pictures, such as menshen (door gods), flowers and birds,” said Sun. “To keep the traditional craft alive, artists now also choose themes from popular culture, like games and films. “
Such rich themes also mean difficult steps. To make a woodblock New Year picture, firstly, artists need to make a rough drawing. And then they carve it on different blocks. The last step is to make the prints one by one on paper. “Each woodblock New Year picture follows the ‘one color on one carved block’ rule and is made with the colors printed on top of each other,” explained Sun. “How many blocks are needed for a picture? It depends on how many colors there are in the picture. One picture comes from at least two blocks.”
However, getting the right color on the block is never easy. Sun said that when he made a woodblock New Year picture, he printed and adjusted each color block more than 100 times to get the right look.
Even so, Sun and other inheritors are finding ways to pass down this traditional culture. “Students who are interested in the exhibitions can learn this skill at a college in Suzhou because we offer exhibitions and classes there.” said Sun.
1.How long has Sun Yibo worked on Taohuawu Prints?
2.How many steps are there in making a woodblock New Year picture?
3.Why did Sun print and adjust each color block more than 100 times?
4.Where can students learn the skill of making Taohuawu prints according to Sun?
5.What can we do to make more people know about traditional crafts like Taohuawu prints?

A Colorful Painting from Ancient China
There is a very famous painting in China. It is called “A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains” (《千里江山图》). It was painted almost 900 years ago, but its colors are still bright and beautiful today. How is that possible? Let’s find out!
A Young Painter
The painter was a young man named Wang Ximeng. He learned to paint at the royal art school. The emperor saw his talent and taught him personally. When Wang Ximeng was only 18 years old, he spent half a year painting this great work. Sadly, he died very young. This is the only painting he left behind.
Big and Beautiful
The painting is huge—more than 11 meters long! It is painted on silk. In the painting, you can see blue mountains and green rivers. There are small villages, bridges, and boats. If you look closely, you can even see tiny people fishing and walking. Every part is painted with great care.
The Secret of the Colors
Why are the colors still so bright after 900 years? The secret is the paint. Wang Ximeng used colors made from real stones. The blue is from a stone called azurite (石青). The green is from a stone called malachite (石绿). Stone colors do not fade easily, so the painting still looks fresh.
A National Treasure

China has made an important step towards sending astronauts to the moon. On 11 February 2026, China carried out a key flight test at the Wenchang Space Launch Site in Hainan Province. This test was for China’s manned lunar exploration programme. It was a big success and attracted wide attention from people around the world.
The test used two important parts: the Long March-10 carrier rocket and the Mengzhou manned spacecraft. The Long March-10 is a new rocket developed for lunar missions. It is much more powerful than earlier rockets. The Mengzhou spacecraft is specially designed to carry astronauts to the moon and back safely.
During the test, the rocket flew up for about 470 seconds. When it reached the right height, the Mengzhou return capsule (舱) separated from the rocket as planned. Then both the first stage of the rocket and the return capsule landed safely in the sea. This was the first time China successfully had got both parts back from the sea. The recovery team quickly found them in the planned sea area.
Although people called it a “low-altitude test”, the rocket actually reached about 105 kilometres. This is well above the Kármán line, the boundary (分界线) between Earth and space. The test proved that the rocket could fly and land as designed. It also showed that the spacecraft’s escape system worked well in difficult situations.
This test went well. It gives a strong base for building future spacecraft. China wants to send astronauts to the moon before 2030. This success brings that goal closer. Chinese scientists and engineers will not stop working hard. They want to make this dream come true.
1.When did China carry out the test?
2.What is the Long March-10 developed for?
3.Where did the return capsule and the first stage of the rocket land?
4.How many kilometres did the rocket reach during the test?

People use body language almost every day. What is body language? How does it work?
Want to speak with your body? Use body language! A “V” gesture shows happiness, victory or peace. Opening the mouth wide shows surprise. This is body language.

For example, when you make faces, people think you are naughty (淘气的) or shy. Frowning (皱眉) shows you are angry. Sometimes your words say one thing, but your body language says another. For example, you touch your face while telling a lie.
In different cultures, the same body language may have different meanings. Nodding your head in most countries means “Yes”. But in some parts of Greece and Turkey, it means “No”.

The meaning of the word “volunteer” may be a little different in different countries, but it usually means one who offers his or her services. There are many different ways in which people can volunteer, such as taking care of sick people, working in homes for homeless children, and picking up rubbish from beaches or parks. Volunteers may work in their own countries or in other countries. They are usually people with a strong wish to help those who have less luck than themselves. Volunteers don’t expect any kind of pay.
At the root (本质) of volunteering is the idea that one person may offer services to help other people. Tracy, a good friend of mine, however, recently came back from India with a new idea of what being a volunteer means. She worked for two and a half weeks in Calcutta.
“I was asked to work in a home for sick people. I helped wash the clothes and pass out lunch. I also fed the people who were too weak to feed themselves and tried to cheer them up. I felt it was better to share with them than to think that I had helped them. So, I don’t think I was helping very much. It was then I knew that I had not really come to help but to learn about and experience another culture that helped improve my own understanding of life and the world,” she said.

2.Whom do volunteers usually help?
3.How long did Tracy work in Calcutta?
4.Did Tracy think she was really helping the sick people?

A baby snail (蜗牛) found that he had to carry a big and heavy shell at any time. He was confused, so he went up to his mother and asked, “Why do I carry a big and heavy shell?” His mother said, “Because we don’t have bones to hold us up. We can only move slowly, so we need a shell to protect us.”
The baby snail asked again, “The caterpillar (毛毛虫) has no bones either. Why can she live without a shell?” The mother snail answered, “That’s because a caterpillar will become a butterfly. She can fly high into the sky. The sky can protect her.”
The baby snail had one more question, “But the earthworm (蚯蚓) moves like us. He has no bones and he won’t turn into a butterfly. Why doesn’t he carry a hard and heavy shell?” His mother said, “He can dig a hole and hide in the ground, and then the earth can protect him.”
Hearing what mom said, the baby snail was full of sadness and cried, “We are so poor! We have no protection from the sky or from the ground!” His mother smiled at him, “My dear, imagine that if we don’t have the shells, what will happen to us? We will have nowhere to sleep and die in the hot sun. How terrible it is! We don’t depend on the sky or the ground for protection. We should depend on ourselves.”

On February 22nd, 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva made history by winning a WTA 1000 title. This great achievement not only brought her honor but also made her the youngest player in the world to break into the WTA’s Top 10.
Andreeva is famous for crying often. After becoming a professional (职业选手) in 2023, she has cried several times when she played poorly. She often gets mad and sad very quickly, and these emotions (情绪) can make her lose hope.
At the beginning of this important match, things didn’t start well. She made two mistakes and lost her first service game. In the past, this might have made her cry or give up. But this time, it was different. Although she still had bad feelings, she learned to control them much better. Instead of crying, she kept cool and won every game after that!
After the match, Andreeva explained how she was inspired by her role model, NBA legend LeBron James. Once, she watched a video of him and heard him say, “You can either let bad feelings enter your mind and kill you, or you can choose to be strong and fight for every point.” She took this advice to heart, believing that no matter how difficult the situation is, staying calm and never giving up is the key to great success.

Wheat Straw Painting (麦秆画) first appeared in the Sui and Tang dynasties. Today, some people are still interested in it, and Zhang Li is one of them. She became interested in Wheat Straw Painting when she was 16 years old. In 2015, she set up her own workroom. Now, Zhang Li realizes that Wheat Straw Painting is what she wants to do for the rest of her life.
She collects lots of wheat straw in the countryside. She dries the straw in the sun and then cuts it by hand. Colorful straws, like red, orange and brown, can be found in her artworks. “They are all natural.” Zhang Li said. Different colors make her paintings beautiful.
In order to develop Wheat Straw Painting, she came up with the idea of mixing it with other traditional Chinese art. So she spent two years learning Suzhou embroidery (苏绣) from some famous artists.
One of her greatest works is a bird among flowers. It took her the whole year to finish it. The bird’s smooth, shiny and colorful feathers are made of wheat straw, while the flowers are made of silk. “In my works, you will find paintings and embroideries mix well.” said Zhang Li.
Through great effort, Zhang Li successfully brought Wheat Straw Painting to people’s attention. She said, “What I have done is just the very beginning. There is still a long way to go.”

Space is a wonderful but challenging environment for humans. Long-term space flights can bring many risks to people’s health. To solve these problems, China has started its space human research program.
This program focuses on studying how space influences the human body. It explores the effects of weightlessness on bones and muscles, and learns more about how space life affects our hearts, blood vessels (血管), metabolism (新陈代谢) and memory.
One of the main goals is to build a research database to support further studies. The other is to help protect the health of taikonauts (中国航天员) during long space tasks, especially as China plans to send people to the moon by 2030.
Space medicine research is of great importance: It not only helps astronauts stay healthy in space, but also brings great benefits to people on Earth. The results can support medical studies on heart disease, aging and new medicines. It also helps China become a stronger space industry and technological power. Besides, it can improve our understanding of human physical changes.

Once I gave my students an assignment (作业): Write a short passage based on a given topic. However, when they handed in their homework, I found many students, about one third of them, used AI tools to create their passages, while the others wrote by themselves.
I was quite surprised to see so many similar passages at first and then I got a bit angry. They cheated me. These passages were created by AI tools. So, I asked them to come to my office and give me an explanation (解释). Here are some of their answers:
I’m sorry I just copied one. I got plenty of homework. When I suddenly thought of the writing assignment, it was too late, so I used AI tools to search for an answer. I didn’t even change anything. I just copied it into my notebook.
I’m sorry, but I have no choice. You know I’m not good at English writing. I had to depend on AI tools. I found AI tools helpful because they could create a composition in less than a minute. Though the composition was not original (原创的), it was better than the one that I wrote.
I’m sorry, but I don’t think it is a big deal. Modern science and technology can provide convenience for us. So, why can’t we make good use of them? I can write my own passage, but it usually takes me half an hour. I think it’s a waste of time. I admit (承认) sometimes I depend on AI tools too much, but we can never deny (否认) that they help us a lot.
Hearing their “perfect” answers, I lost myself in thought. I realized that AI had a big influence on some of the students and they depended on it greatly. Later, I asked them to tell me what they had written in their passages, but they could hardly say anything.
“As we all know, it’s important to think independently (独立地). If we don’t, we might just believe what AI tells us, and then we will be led by the nose by it. So, use it wisely and properly, or it will be a stumbling block (绊脚石) on your way forward, especially for middle school students.” I told the students.
1.What assignment did the teacher give the students?
2.How did the students finish the writing task?
3.What is AI considered as during students’ growth if they depend too much on it?
4.As a junior high school student, how can you use AI tools wisely to help with your study? Give out at least two ways. Write 30 words or more.

Fan Jinshi: the daughter of Dunhuang
Dunhuang’s Mogao Caves, one of China’s first UNESCO World Heritage Sites, houses the world’s largest collection of Buddhist art. However, the site has long suffered damage from sand, weather and human activity. Thanks to Fan Jinshi and her colleagues, these cultural treasures have been preserved.
After graduating from Peking University, Fan worked as an archaeologist in Dunhuang, studying and protecting the artworks. One day, comparing old and new photos, she was shocked to find that some caves and artworks had changed or disappeared. Determined to save them, she and her team tried limiting visitors, adding doors to caves, and controlling temperature and humidity. Still, they realized the damage could only be slowed, not stopped.
Refusing to give up, they developed the Digital Dunhuang project, creating digital copies of the paintings. After years of work, the collection went online in 2016, allowing people worldwide to explore the caves from home.
Fan has dedicated her life to preserving this part of China’s cultural heritage. “The longer I’ve stayed here, the deeper my love has grown for Dunhuang,” she says. That is why she is known as “the daughter of Dunhuang”.

Meng Chen is a university student in Beijing. Almost every weekend, he works as a volunteer guide in the Forbidden City, sharing stories about ancient clocks in the Hall of Clocks with visitors.
Meng is one of around 300 volunteer tour guides at the Palace Museum, and one-third of these guides are university students. “Every brick here has a story to tell,” Meng often says. He loves walking through the buildings where 24 emperors once lived, feeling connected to the centuries of history held within the palace walls.
But being a volunteer guide takes more than just interest. Meng spent nearly three months studying to remember every detail of the clocks—from their design to their history. The work also comes with challenges: many tourists rush through sightseeing and turn down volunteer guides. Shi Hui, another student volunteer, once walked around for three hours on his first day before finding a man in his 50s who was happy to listen to his stories.
For these young volunteers, their work is about far more than giving tours. They are building a bridge between the past and the present, helping visitors feel the warmth and wonder of China’s cultural heritage. As Meng puts it, “History only comes alive when people share it.” By passing on the stories of the Forbidden City, they are not just protecting culture—they are also growing into more confident young people who care about their heritage.
1.Where does Meng Chen study now?
2.How many volunteer tour guides are there at the Palace Museum?
3.Why did Meng Chen spend three months studying the clocks?
4.What can we do in our daily life to protect and spread Chinese culture? (write 30 words or more)

Animations bring stories to life through moving pictures. The process starts with ideas and scripts. Artists then create characters and scenes. After that, they decide how each scene will move. Next, some artists use the computer to draw thousands of frames (帧). And many draw with special pens. Finally, sound effects and music are added to complete the work.
Cartoons and animated movies have a long history. In the 1930s, Walt Disney made the full-colour animation. Snow White was his most famous early work. Today, studios like Pixar use 3D technology to make films more vivid.
Comic books often give ideas to animation makers. For example, Spider-Man first appeared in comic books in 1962. The brave hero quickly won kids’ love. In 1967 it became a popular cartoon character. Animations help people visit amazing places in our minds. People love animations; so they watch them a lot. More people watching means more money for making new ones. Nature is the basis of human life. We get everything we need from it. All living things on the Earth depend on each other and form a friendly system. For example, bees pollinate (传粉) flowers, and plants provide food and oxygen for animals and humans. This balance keeps our planet healthy and lively.
However, human activities have caused serious environmental problems. As a result, natural disasters happen more often and many wild animals are in danger. Some rare species may even disappear forever if we do nothing to protect them.
To solve these problems, many countries take action. People build nature reserves to protect endangered animals. They also call on the public to live a low-carbon life and make good use of energy.
Protecting nature is protecting ourselves. Everyone should take part in it.
1.What do we get from nature?
2.Why do natural disasters happen more often?
3.What do people build to protect endangered animals?

【答案】1.It added Braille guides for blind visitors. 2.By touching the raised dots on the guides. 3.Visitors who have difficulty seeing can benefit from them. 4.They can watch them in the museum, or on their phone screens by scanning a QR code (through special apps). 5.Because they believe culture belongs to everyone and they want everyone to enjoy the beauty of art and history.

Passage 6
(25-26八下·广东省广州市华南师范大学附属中学·阶段检测)

A Young Painter
The painter was a young man named Wang Ximeng. He learned to paint at the royal art school. The emperor saw his talent and taught him personally.

I felt it was better to share with them than to think that I had helped them. So, I don’t think I was helping very much.
【答案】1.Write a short passage based on a given topic. 2.About one third of them used AI tools to create their passages, while the others wrote by themselves. 3.A stumbling block on their way forward. 4.As a junior high school student, I can use AI tools to look up new words and explain difficult grammar rules when reading. Also, I can use them to get ideas for writing or check mistakes in my essays, instead of copying directly.

Passage 12
阅读短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。

Passage 14

This helps animations continue to grow quickly.
