Unit 8 A green world Period 6 Integration D Teaching aims and demands By the end of the lesson, students will be able to 1. Analyze the structure of the model speech “Let’s go green!” and how the content about “reduce, reuse ,recycle” is developed. 2. Summarize and use the core sentence patterns and transition words for giving suggestions from the model text and “ Useful expressions” to enrich their writing language. 3. Use the “3R” framework to list key points of personal environmental actions, and write an environmental advocacy speech with a clear structure, specific suggestions and appropriate languages. 4. Revise and improve their speeches through self-check and peer assessment, so as to improve writing quality and audience awareness. Main and difficult points 1. Summarize and use the core sentence patterns and transition words for giving suggestions from the model text and “ Useful expressions” to enrich their writing language. 2. Use the “3R” framework to list key points of personal environmental actions, and write an environmental advocacy speech with a clear structure, specific suggestions and appropriate languages. Teaching Procedures Further Preparation Step 1: Lead-in Free talk: How do you feel when you see the color green? How do you feel when you see these pictures? Step 2: Pre-writing 1. Mr Wu asked the Class 1, Grade 8 students to give a presentation on how to go green. Present Tip 1: Before writing a presentation script, it is important to clearly list the main points first. 2. Read Millie’s note and answer the following questions: (1) What is the topic? (2) What are the main methods? 3. Read Millie’s script for the presentation, and catch the main idea of each paragraph. Present Tip 2: Organize an article in a clear structure! 4. Read Para 2. (1) Find out how Millie organizes her sentences. Conclude some expressions and transitional phrases we can learn to use. Step 3: While-writing Write your presentation script on how to go green. 1. Pay attention to the tips we have learnt. 2. Follow the structure. 3. After writing, check and assess your writing. Then, exchange your script with your classmate and assess his/her writing Step 4: Summary Summarize what we have learnt in this unit and call on people to think green, go green and be green in daily lives.
