One afternoon, Peter Bernard returned home from the market. He was tired after an early start.
"Come and have a cup of tea," his wife said. "Then you can rest. You don't need to do any more work today, do you?"
"I want to bring the hay in and put it under cover. It's been cut for several days, and now it's finally dry."
"You don't need to bring it in today," his wife said. "Look at the sky-it doesn't look like rain."
Peter drank his tea. The kitchen was warm, and what he really wanted was to take off his boots and watch TV. But something was stopping him-his family's wise words. Since he was a little boy, his father had always said, "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today." His family had always followed that advice, and it had never let them down.
"Honey," he said at last, "I'm afraid I really need to go and bring that hay in."
"Well then," she shrugged, "if you insist."
Together with his farmhands, Peter went out and brought all the hay in.
That night, a heavy storm broke over the valley. When Peter and his wife woke up, they saw a brown flood of water running through the fields. All the nearby farmers had lost their hay-but Peter had saved his.
Peter's wife sighed. "Your family's wise words were right again."
"Yes," said Peter proudly. "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today."
24.What did Peter want to do first after coming home?
A. Bring the hay in. B. Watch some TV.
C. Have a cup of tea. D. Talk with his wife.
25.Why did Peter want to bring the hay in that evening?
A. Because his wife asked him to do so.
B. Because the hay was already very dry.
C. Because he knew a big storm was coming that night.
D. Because he was afraid it might rain and damage the hay.
26. What does "Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today." mean?
A. Yesterday's lazy cures today's crazy.
B. Today is worth two tomorrows.
C. Tomorrow is another day.
D. What you do today can improve all your tomorrows.
C
Bees in Trouble
A tiny bee flying from flower to flower is very important to the world. Bees help make the food we eat by pollinating(授粉) crops. Without them, our food supply would be in danger.
But now, something mysterious is happening: billions of bees are dying, and scientists aren't sure exactly why. Thousands of bees have flown away from their hives and disappeared. Bees usually return to their hives by following a special smell, but some hives have been left full of honey and young bees. This is very unusual.
Scientists are trying to solve the mystery. Some think one reason is mites. These tiny insects cling onto bees and make them sick. Others believe that certain chemical pesticides(农药) used by farmers are poisoning the bees. Climate change may also be a problem: flowers open earlier, but bees are still sleeping, so they miss the food they need. Also, signals from mobile phones and cell phone towers may confuse bees and make them lose their way home.
It is hard for scientists to find out the truth because most bees die away from their hives, leaving no dead body to study. To learn more, some scientists have glued tiny microchips(微芯片) to bees' backs. The chips send signals, helping scientists know where the bees go.
Another scientist is testing whether bees return to the same hole in their hives. He has put different shapes - triangles, rectangles and circles - on the holes. Bees usually return to the same hole. If bees start choosing a different hole, it might be a warning sign.
Everything must be done to help the bees in trouble.
27.Why are bees so important to human beings?
A. They produce honey and keep balance of nature.
B. They are necessary and vital for the growth of crops.
C. They make the flowers and environment more beautiful.
D. They are the most suitable subjects for scientific research.
28.Which reason for bees' disappearance is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A. Mites make bees sick.
B. Climate change causes food shortage.
C. Cell phone tower signals confuse bees.
D. The bees are attacked and eaten by birds.
29.What can we learn from the testing on bees?
A. Bees can use shapes to communicate with each other.
B. The experiment is not scientific enough to find the truth.
C. If bees start choosing a different hole, they are probably lost.
D. The shape of the hole is very important for bees to find home.
D
How to Deal With Peer Pressure
Peer pressure is part of everyday life for teenagers. It can be positive - a friend encouraging you to study harder-or negative, like being urged to try something harmful. Learning how to manage it is a key life skill.
First, learn to say "no" with confidence. When someone pressures you, make eye contact and say "no" firmly. This sends a clear message that you're not interested. Remember, you don't have to give a long explanation - a simple "No, thanks" is enough.
Second, how can you resist negative peer pressure effectively? One strategy is to have a script (脚本) ready. This is a simple, pre-planned excuse you can use to remove yourself from an uncomfortable situation. For example, if someone offers you a cigarette and asks you to go out for a drink, you could say, "I just forgot - I have to study for the math exam," or even just, "Sorry, that's not my thing." Having a script ready makes it easier to act confidently in the moment.
Third, choose your friends wisely. Your friends should accept you for who you are without trying to change you. If your friends don't make bad decisions, you're less likely to make them, either. Choose friends because you like them, not because they're "cool" or popular. Surrounding yourself with supportive friends who respect your choices makes it much easier to stand your ground.
Perhaps the most important lesson is that peer pressure can sometimes be internal (内在的). This happens when we put pressure on ourselves because we feel we should be doing what everyone else is doing, even if no one is directly asking us. This often begins by identifying (识别) our own personal values. Ask yourself: What is truly important to me? Health? Honesty? Friendships? Once you know your values, you can make decisions that are right for you, not just decisions that seem popular.
Remember, the ability to say "no" and make your own choices is a sign of strength, not weakness. It is about respecting yourself and your future. By practicing these strategies, you can navigate the challenges of peer pressure and build a stronger sense of who you are.
30. What does the writer suggest doing when you feel uncomfortable in a situation?
A. Make eye contact and keep silent.
B. Stay and try to fit in with the group.
C. Make an excuse to leave the situation.
D. Give a long explanation to persuade others.
31. What does the expression "stand your ground" in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. ask for help from trusted adults
B. run away from difficult situations
C. do what others want to get along with others
D. won't change your own views or give in to pressure
32. What can we learn from the passage about choosing friends?
A. Popular friends are always the best choice.
B. You should change yourself to please your friends.
C. It's better to have no friends than to face peer pressure.
D. Friends with common interests are less likely to pressure you.
33. What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To offer practical advice on dealing with peer pressure.
B. To compare different kinds of peer pressure in daily life.
C. To explain why peer pressure happens among teenagers.
D. To describe the effects of peer pressure on school performance.

China's Green Path: Building a Low-Carbon Society
In recent years, China has made great efforts to build a low-carbon society. These actions help cut down on pollution and fight against climate change. Many projects have been carried out across the country to achieve a greener and cleaner future.
One major step is the development of renewable energy. China has become a world leader in wind and solar power. In many areas, huge wind farms and solar panels have been built to provide clean energy for homes and factories. This greatly reduces the use of coal, a major source of carbon emissions(碳排放).
Another important action is the improvement of public transportation. Many cities now have modern subway systems. Furthermore, more electric buses and shared bikes are being used, making it easier for people to choose green travel. For example, in cities like Shenzhen, all public buses are now electric. This change has significantly lowered air pollution.
In daily life, people are also encouraged to play their part. The government has started waste sorting (分类) programs in communities. Citizens learn how to recycle plastic, paper, glass, and other materials. There are also rewards for families who save energy. By turning off lights when not needed, using fewer plastic bags, and walking more, everyone can contribute to the plan.
These efforts have already shown positive results. The air quality in many Chinese cities has improved. Forests are growing, and wildlife is returning. China is proving that economic growth and environmental protection can go hand in hand. By creating a low-carbon society, the country is not only improving the lives of its people but also setting an example for the rest of the world.

2. 答案:A
解析:具体到某一天(his last day)用介词 on。“在工作的地方”是固定搭配 at work,所以用 at。
3. 答案:C
解析:问“多久以后”用 How soon,答语常用 in + 一段时间 或 not in…。How long 问“持续多长时间”,答语要用 for…。
5. 答案:A
第二空 one of + 最高级 + 可数名词复数是固定结构,所以用 the most challenging experiences。
7. 答案:C
解析:right now 表示“此刻”,用现在进行时 is running。in five minutes 表示“五分钟后”,用一般将来时 will be back。
8. 答案:A
用一般过去时疑问句 Did you cut...。回答“我不是故意的”用 didn't mean to(口语中常省略 to)。
时间状语 during the night 表示过去,所以用一般过去时的被动语态 were woken up。
13. 答案:B. worried
14. 答案:D. calm
15. 答案:B. flat
high(高)、large(大)、old(旧)均不正确。
16. 答案:C. think of
17. 答案:D. wondered
remembered(记起)不能表达这种内心的思考。
18. 答案:B. stranger
C. change
19. 答案:A. chain

23. 答案:A
Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today (P22-23)
Peter回家后,妻子让他“Have a cup of tea”,他喝了茶。 A项“Bring the hay in”是后来做的;B项“Watch some TV”是他内心想做的,但没有实际做;D项“Talk with his wife”发生在喝茶之前,但不是他主动“想做”的第一件事。
彼得担心下雨会毁掉干草,原文说“I want to bring the hay in... It’s been cut for several days”,他担心下雨损坏干草。
谚语“Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today”的意思是“今日事,今日毕”。
Bees in trouble
第一段明确指出“Bees help make the food we eat by pollinating crops”,即蜜蜂通过授粉帮助生产我们吃的食物。
文中说“If bees start choosing a different hole, it might be a warning sign”,暗示蜜蜂可能迷路。

第四段提到“Surrounding yourself with supportive friends who respect your choices makes it much easier to stand your ground.”
第四段建议选择朋友是因为喜欢他们,而非因为他们“酷”或受欢迎,并指出“surrounding yourself with supportive friends who respect your choices”有助于抵抗压力。
33. 答案:A

Yes. Because first, it helps protect the environment. For example, by turning off lights and recycling, I can reduce pollution in my daily life. Second, I can influence people around me. When I choose to walk or use shared bikes, my friends may follow. It’s good for our planet and future generations.
· 开头明确回答“Yes”或“No”,未回答扣1分;
(只写“Because it’s good and important.” → 理由不具体,扣1分;两个理由实质相同(如“保护环境”和“保护地球”)→ 扣1分;照抄原文“By creating a low-carbon society, the country is not only improving the lives of its people...”
U3-What makes a great team?
I'm Li Hua from Class 1, Grade 8. I am writing to share our experience of winning the championship in the inter-school competition, and call on everyone to work together.
To win the championship, our team practiced together every day after school. We supported each other when someone felt tired or lost confidence. We also communicated a lot to improve our teamwork. For example, we discussed our strengths and weaknesses and made better plans. By overcoming many difficulties together, we finally achieved our goal.
Teamwork is very important for students because it helps us learn from each other and become stronger. No one can succeed alone. Through this experience, I have learned that trust and cooperation are the keys to success. When we work as a team, we can achieve what seems impossible.
Let’s join hands and achieve more together!
Yours,
Li Hua

U5-Looking into nature
The natural explorer I admire most is Wang Wencai, a famous Chinese botanist.
He spent over sixty years collecting and researching plants across China. He faced many challenges, such as working in wild mountains and studying thousands of plant samples. Through his hard work, he discovered many new plant species.
I admire him for two reasons. First, his strong curiosity drove him to keep exploring even in difficult conditions. Second, he was not afraid of hard work. His spirit inspires me to face my own challenges bravely and never give up.
