【原文】W: Look at this weather. Where has all the sunshine gone?
M: I much prefer it when it’s cool and cloudy like this. Last week it was far too hot for me.
W: Really? I hate the cold and snowy weather.
2.C
【原文】M: Have you always lived in America?
W: No, I was born in England and grew up in Germany. We moved here because my father found a job.
3.A
【原文】M: Don’t forget your swimsuit for tomorrow, Lucy. The swimming class is on Wednesday, remember?
W: No swimming tomorrow, Dad. Our class is visiting the children’s home. We’re going to play with them.
M: Oh, that’s nice. It’s good to help those who are less fortunate.
4.C
【原文】M: It must have taken you ages to learn to draw like this. It looks more like a photo!
W: Yes, years! I used to get annoyed when I made a mistake. Then I realized learning is a marathon; it takes time.
5.A
【原文】M: What is the first thing you remember, Ann?
W: Oh, my goodness. It was about 5 o’clock in the morning. I remember, I woke up when I was thrown out of bed. I tried to walk, but the floor shook terribly.

【原文】W: Dad, guess what? Katie has won tickets to the Dream Voice concert next week! Isn’t that cool?
M: Really? How did she get them?
W: She just happened to be the first caller to get through in a radio call-in competition and she answered all the questions they threw at her about the group, so they gave her two free tickets!
M: Well, she must be pretty pleased with herself, then.
W: Actually, she’s excited. We’ll even be able to meet our favorite singer.
M: We? Who?
W: She asked me to go with her. I can go, can’t I, Dad?
M: Wait, wait. I thought we’d made a deal. I don’t think you should be going to pop concerts when you have exams coming up soon.
W: But Dad, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance! And besides, it’s only one night. I promise I’ll study hard for the rest of the term if you let me go.
M: Fine, but you’d better keep your word.
W: Thanks. You’re the best dad ever.

【原文】W: John, when did you create your app Gimkit?
M: I did that in the year 2019.
W: Why did you create it?
M: I was in my junior year at a public high school then. My school required us to take part in projects. My project that year required me to make an app.
W: What inspired you to make such an app?
M: Back then some of my classmates complained that they didn’t like preparing for their exams. They found it boring. So I wanted to create an app that could make learning more fun. In the end I created an app that lets teachers create resources in the form of game-style quizzes.
W: Is it helpful?
M: I think so. Students love using it. Now it is used by learners in more than 100 countries across the world. Research shows that it can increase learning by up to 14%.
W: I’ll certainly introduce it to my younger brother. I hope it can help him learn better.

【原文】W: Good evening, everyone. I’m Lisa. Our guest today is Clark, a well-known street painter. Welcome to the show!
M: Thanks for having me, Lisa.
W: Many people think street painting is tough — working outdoors for hours. What’s your take on it?
M: Actually, it’s quite peaceful. I love sitting by the sidewalk, with a gentle breeze blowing by. Passers-by often stop to share their stories, which is lovely.
W: You’ve painted so many subjects — city squares, old trees, even street performers. Is there anything new you’re eager to try?
M: Yes! I want to paint pet owners with their furry friends. It’ll be full of warm little moments.
W: Fantastic. Could you also tell us where your inspirations come from?
M: From my daily walks around the neighborhood. Every corner has a hidden story waiting to be painted.

W: Of course. And I will miss you, and miss the tasty food and the friendly workmates who helped me pick up a lot of Chinese. It would have been perfect except for the days of continuous rain in Shanghai. By the way, please let me know if your daughter needs any help while she’s studying in London.

32.主旨大意题。根据第二段“The entire system consists of an unmanned service boat with a small underwater search robot and the diving robot. The service boat supplies the underwater robots with power and data by cable (电缆) and uses ultrasound to map the seabed. After a search robot scans the seabed, the diving robot dives to the rubbish, collects it and puts it into a floating waste container.”(整个系统由一艘无人服务船、一个小型水下搜索机器人和潜水机器人组成。

根据时间状语In recent years可知,句子应用现在完成时,其结构为“have/has + 过去分词”,主语volunteering是第三人称单数,所以用has become。故填has become。

67.
Li Yue slowly walked onto the stage. She felt the bright spotlight shining directly into her eyes. The audience became completely quiet, all eyes focused on her. Just as her mind went blank, she suddenly noticed a familiar figure in the front row — it was Wang Lei, who gave her a warm, encouraging smile and a firm thumbs-up. At that moment, Wang Lei’s words echoed in her ears, “Believe in yourself — you are fully prepared.”
Taking a deep breath, Li Yue calmed down quickly. She no longer focused on memorizing the speech word for word. Instead, she began speaking from her heart, sharing the story of her and Wang Lei. She talked about those late nights spent practicing together, the times Wang Lei patiently corrected her pronunciation, and the warmth she felt during moments of hesitation. Her voice grew steadier and more confident, and the words flowed naturally. When she finished, the hall exploded with applause. At that moment, Li Yue knew she not only overcame her fear but also proved that true friendship is the greatest power of all.

In the late 1980s, Stephanie Garber was driving through downtown Silver Spring, MD, when a large pickup truck hit her car. She wasn’t injured, but the other driver was annoyed, claiming the accident was Garber’s fault. And her car was completely destroyed.
Garber stood on the sidewalk, waiting for rescue to arrive. As she watched her car blocking traffic in the middle of the morning rush hour, Garber couldn’t help crying. “I was standing there. I was anxious and nervous. And I felt guilty about keeping the traffic stopped,” Garber said. “So, I really was not myself.” All of a sudden, a professionally dressed woman approached her. The woman appeared to be on her way to work and she was holding a cup of hot tea from the nearby coffee shop.
Garber recalled, “She handed it to me and said, ‘Maybe this will help.’ And when I looked at her, I just felt such kindness coming my way at a time when I needed it.” They smiled at each other and Garber thought she told the woman thank you, though she’s not sure. Then the woman went on her way. Garber recalled drinking the entire cup of tea. “Actually, I’ve never liked tea at all,” she said. “But I drank every drop and I felt her sympathy coming through with each swallow.”
The next morning, during rush hour, Garber drove a rental car back to the same spot downtown, hoping to find the woman and thank her again. But the woman wasn’t there. Garber held on to the small tag (标签) from the tea bag for about 15 years as a way to remember the woman’s act of generosity.
“I still remember it. I tell all my friends I never forget the kindness,” Garber said. “And this might have seemed like a very small kindness, but it meant a lot.”
24.What was the result of the accident for Garber?
A.She caused traffic jams on purpose. B.She paid for the other driver’s loss.
C.She escaped unhurt but lost her car. D.She was fined by the police officer.
25.Why did Garber cry after the accident?
A.She felt upset and ashamed. B.Passers-by treated her rudely.
C.The rescue didn’t arrive in time. D.She got badly frightened.
26.Why did Garber keep the tea bag tag for 15 years?
A.To remind herself to drink more tea. B.To treasure an unexpected kindness.
C.To prove the power of small kindnesses. D.To look for the woman and return it to her.
27.What message does the text mainly want to convey?
A.Accidents always bring pain. B.Drinking tea can ease anxiety.
C.Tiny acts of care go a long way. D.People in trouble desire material help.

A 62-year-old football fan in Gibraltar underwent remote robotic surgery performed by a surgeon in London, marking a major breakthrough in telesurgery.
Inside the operating theatre at St Bernard’s Hospital, a hi-tech robot with a 3D camera and four arms removed the prostate (前列腺) of patient Paul Buxton, who moved to Gibraltar 40 years ago. Performing the procedure 1,400 miles away from London’s Harley Street was Prof Prokar Dasgupta, a urology (泌尿) professor who heads the London Clinic’s robotic centre of excellence.
Dasgupta used a console (控制台) in London to guide the Toumai Robotic System through a chain of steps. The procedure went smoothly, with a delay of only 0.06 seconds between the surgeon in London and the robot in Gibraltar. A local surgical team stood ready to take over as a backup in case the connection dropped. Within days, Buxton said he felt “fantastic”.
Buxton, originally from Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset, had expected to join the NHS (National Health Service) waiting list and travel to England for surgery after his cancer diagnosis. When offered the chance to undergo telesurgery instead, he jumped at it, calling it “a no-brainer.” He noted that normally, for any major surgery, patients in Gibraltar must travel to either London or Madrid. After the procedure, he said it was “a pleasure to be part of medical history.”
Dasgupta described the surgery as a “milestone” that went “extremely well.” The console in London was linked to the robot in Gibraltar via fibre optics, with a backup 5G connection. He noted that remote surgery is advancing rapidly around the world, with recent breakthroughs enabling real-time, long-distance procedures. Patients in remote areas do not always have access to the best healthcare, he said, and remote surgery can save them “vast expense and inconvenience” in travelling for care. He added that the humanitarian benefit is going to be “very, very exciting”.
A second remote procedure is scheduled for 14th March, this time with 20,000 surgeons watching via live streaming at the European Association of Urology congress.
28.What was unique about the surgery performed on Paul Buxton?
A.It was conducted in Madrid.
B.It was the first robotic surgery in Gibraltar.
C.The surgeon operated from a different country.
D.The patient traveled to London for the procedure.
29.What can be inferred about the local surgical team in Gibraltar?
A.They opposed the remote procedure.
B.They were present as a safety measure.
C.They watched and learned on the spot.
D.They controlled the robot from London.
30.How did Buxton feel about being the patient for the surgery?
A.Adventurous. B.Worried. C.Honored. D.Grateful.
31.What is the main advantage of remote surgery according to Dasgupta?
A.It spares patients great cost and trouble.
B.It reduces the need for advanced healthcare.
C.It makes surgery faster than traditional methods.
D.It enables more surgeons to observe the procedure.

Ocean litter is a major environmental problem around the world. To rise to this challenge, a research team at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) has now developed an autonomous (自动) diving robot that can discover and collect litter. It uses an AI system to analyze objects with ultrasound (超声波) and cameras, picks them up and brings them to the surface.
The entire system consists of an unmanned service boat with a small underwater search robot and the diving robot. The service boat supplies the underwater robots with power and data by cable (电缆) and uses ultrasound to map the seabed. After a search robot scans the seabed, the diving robot dives to the rubbish, collects it and puts it into a floating waste container.
Equipped with a camera and sonar, the system can identify rubbish even in dark and unclear water. Since hardly any image material is available for underwater objects that could help to train the search robot, the team labeled (标记) more than 7,000 pictures to teach the AI to tell rubbish from natural objects. After recognizing waste, the AI displays it in 3D to determine how to grasp (抓取) the object safely and firmly.
The diving robot’s four-fingered hand can use a force of 4,000 newtons when grasping objects weighing up to 250 kg. However, special sensors enable it to gauge how much force it can use without causing damage. For example, this prevents glass bottles from breaking into pieces.
Tested in the Port of Marseille in France and the Port of Hamburg in Germany, the system is expected to be widely used between 2030 and 2033. Project manager Bart De Schutter believes this technology could be game-changing in addressing ocean litter.
32.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.How the system works. B.How the service boat is powered.
C.What rubbish is picked up. D.What the search robot is made of.
33.How does the system tell rubbish from natural objects underwater?
A.By working with divers to check different objects.
B.By measuring the weight and size of the objects.
C.By using a special cable to display the objects in 3D.
D.By examining images with AI trained on labeled pictures.
34.What does the underlined word “gauge” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Prove. B.Imagine. C.Judge. D.Increase.
35.What is Bart De Schutter’s attitude toward the future of the technology?
A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Unconcerned. D.Unclear.

How to Make Friends
Friends are so wonderful because they bring laughter, share adventures and comfort you in hard times. 36 Fortunately, once you know where to look and how to put yourself out there, making new friends doesn’t have to be hard. Here are some tips and strategies for building the friendships you deserve.
37 If you want to make friends, you first need to put yourself out there somehow in order to meet people. If you just sit alone, friends might come to you, but that’s not likely because they might think you want to stay alone. For example, if you’re still in school, sit somewhere with other people. It doesn’t have to be a crowded table, but try to choose one with at least 2 other people.
Join an organization or club to meet new people. 38 You don’t necessarily need to have a lot of common interests with people in order to make friends with them. Some of the most rewarding friendships are between 2 people who don’t have much in common at all.
Make eye contact and smile. If you don’t present a friendly and inviting appearance, people are less likely to be receptive to your friendship. 39
Be reliable. When you say you’ll do something, do it. 40 If you embody this quality in your treatment of others, it will attract others who appreciate reliability and who will be reliable in return.
A.Make yourself available.
B.Look for opportunities to talk to people.
C.Show the good, unique qualities about yourself.
D.Be someone that people know that they can depend on.
E.But sometimes making new friends can feel really hard.
F.This is a great way to find other people who have common interests.
G.Look people directly in the eye when they are speaking to you and offer them a warm, friendly smile.

Li Yue was a hardworking but quite shy student. She loved English and had always been at the top of her class in written exams, but speaking in front of others was her greatest fear. This year, to her own surprise, she had made it to the final of the school’s English speech competition. The topic was “The Power of Friendship”, which made her think immediately of Wang Lei. Li Yue had spent weeks preparing, writing, and rewriting her speech with the help of her best friend, Wang Lei. Wang Lei had always been her biggest supporter, encouraging her to step out of her comfort zone. He had practiced with her for countless hours, patiently listening and giving suggestions. Whenever Li Yue felt nervous or looked unsure, he would smile and say, “Believe in yourself — you’re fully prepared”, a sentence that rang loud in her heart like a steady drumbeat.
Standing backstage, Li Yue’s heart was beating quickly and loudly. She could feel her hands getting sweaty. She looked through the curtain secretly and saw the audience, a sea of faces that seemed to go on forever. Then she saw her main competitor, Sun Qian, walking off the stage with a confident smile, and receiving loud applause (掌声). The sound felt like a wave of pressure crashing over her. Suddenly, Li Yue’s confidence disappeared. Her hands started to shake uncontrollably, and the words of her carefully prepared speech seemed to disappear from her mind, leaving behind a terrifying blank. “What if I forget everything? What if they laugh at me? What if I disappoint Wang Lei after all his help?” she thought, fear rising inside her. She took a deep breath, but it did little to calm her nerves. Just then, the host’s voice rang through the speakers, “And now, let’s welcome our next contestant, Li Yue!”
