Read and enjoy
Let’s enjoy a famous poem written by William Wordsworth.
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud (excerpt)
William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin ofa bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

Listen and read
Listen to the text and read it aloud.
William Wordsworth was one of the leading British poets from 1800 to 1850. He grew up in northwest England. As a kid, he loved taking long walks in the mountains. That was perhaps why he often wrote about nature when he grew up. After finishing his studies at Cambridge University, he moved to France. A few years later, he returned to his hometown.
Wordsworth wrote many poems about the beauty of nature. You could see how much he enjoyed fishing, boating, and swimming outdoors. He believed that nature was one of his best teachers and encouraged people to return to nature for a more peaceful life.
