Most of the time, people wear hats to protect themselves from harsh weather conditions. Hats are also worn to show politeness and as signs of social position. But nowadays, hats, especially women’s hats, are much more than that. More exactly, hats have changed into fashion and style symbols by many movie stars. What’s more, people now consider many different features when choosing even a simple hat. Many designers point out that, when choosing the right hat, it’s important to consider the color of your skin as well as your hair, your height, and the shape of your face.
First of all, the color of the hat should match the color of your skin and hair. For instance, black hats should be avoided if you are dark skinned. If a purple hat is placed on top of red hair, one will look as attractive as a summer flower. Second, the height of the hat is also an important point. Tall women should not go for hats with tall crowns, just as short women should choose hats with upturned brims to give the look of height. Third, and most importantly, the shape of the face decides the kind of hat one should pick. A small, gentle hat that fits the head looks good on a small face. However, women with big, round faces should choose a different style.
As the saying goes, “Fine feathers make fine birds.” A good hat can not only help your dress but also support your features, so why not choose the best possible one next time you want to be in public?

Plants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. Therefore animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us.
If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants.
Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are protected by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit.
Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores (胚芽). Spores are very small. Some spores are so small and light that they can float in the air. We may say that spores are quite the same as seeds. When these spores are all on wet and shady places, they usually grow into new plants.
46. The main idea of the first paragraph is that ______.
A. plants are important for life B. plants cannot grow without air
C. there are many plants in the world D. we can not live without water

B. Spores are seeds
C. All fruits of flowering plants have seeds
D. Without plants, man will die out
49. This passage may be taken from______.
A. a medicine book B. a novel
C. a science magazine D. an experiment report
50. The underlined word “protected” in the third paragraph can be replaced by ______.
A. damaged B. polluted C. prevented D. guarded
D
It’s good to make mistakes, and here is why.
First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that we are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things because when we are trying new things, we are growing. If we never try anything new, how can we improve? How can we expand? The simple answer is “We can’t”. Around us, everything in our physical world is the result of someone trying something new.
Another good thing about mistakes is this: When we are making mistakes, we are learning. Consider this-Edison failed 10,000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he said that he had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when we make a mistake, we are much closer to success. Why? Because when all is said and done, we will have tried some number of things before we succeeded. Every time we make a mistake, we eliminate one of those things and are one step closer.
But all this doesn’t mean that we should go through life without considering the result of a mistake. Quite the contrary, when we try something new, we have to be willing to set some reasonable limits. We shouldn’t do anything blindly. Because we all have limited resources—in the form of time and money, so we must realize that it probably won’t be perfect the first time and arrange these resources appropriately so we can learn, make corrections, and try it again. Only by accepting and using our mistakes in this way can we make significant advances in our lives.
There is an old saying that goes, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.” So go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow.
51. From the second paragraph, we can conclude that ______.
A. mistakes are unnecessary for development
B. mistakes let us see our own limits
C. it’s common for people to make mistakes
D. making mistakes is better than not trying
52. According to the passage, if we try new things, we can ______.
A. move forward B. never fail C. obtain nothing D. be closer to mistakes
53. The underlined word “eliminate” means ______.
A. make up for B. get rid of C. choose D. solve
54. According to the passage, one thing we should pay attention to about making mistakes is ______.
A. avoiding making the same mistakes
B. accepting the outcome willingly
C. making proper arrangements for our next try
D. hiding the results after each mistake
55. The article is mainly about ______.
A. how to deal with mistakes
B. what benefits making mistakes brings
C. how to achieve success
D. how to make use of our mistakes
五、阅读表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
Before Christmas last year I found a charity that was looking for workers to show care to the elderly. I wrote to the charity and asked if I could send gifts to some elderly people of their choosing, and some Christmas cards to more elderly shut-ins (不方便出门的人). Thankfully they consented.
I left the cards unsealed (未封口的) so the recipients could read the messages. I became really enthusiastic about the project designing colorful decorations on the cards to make them personal. I signed my name and the charity’s name to avoid any confusion about who I was. I left it to the charity to decide who would best receive a card. This was so much fun!
I loved sending these cards to elderly people who might not receive much attention during the holidays. If I had had more money, I would have given more gifts, but I could only send about 20 little gift bags containing candy, special soap, towels, and other items. Despite this, it was a great pleasure for me. The charity kindly wrapped my gifts with the paper I provided and delivered everything to recipients all over the area. According to them, the gifts were much appreciated. I hope so.
But I know I was the one who benefited most. It was a joy trying to cheer up strangers who I knew would be shut-ins due to illness during the holidays. To me, it was truly a glorious experience! Such a little thing to do, but maybe it made at least one person smile. I truly hope so. That was my intention — to spread love and hope for the best.
Reflecting on the experience, I realize how meaningful it was. The joy of knowing that I might have brightened someone’s day, even if just for a moment, was incredibly fulfilling. It reinforced the idea that small acts of kindness can have a big impact I look forward to continuing this tradition and finding new ways to bring joy to those who need it most.

D. Without plants, man will die out

To change the situation, I’d like to offer some suggestions. First, always have breakfast to get enough energy for the day. Second, arrange your time wisely and go to bed early. Finally, take regular exercise to build up your body.
