When I was a boy, my mom would often let me help her make popcorn to eat while we watched TV. Mom made it in the traditional way.
She would take out an iron frying pan and light the stove (炉子) under it. Then she would pour in a little oil and add a piece of butter. Next she would bring out a big handful of corn from the bag. Together we would wait until we heard the first popping. Then she would hold the pan with a cover and shake them over the fire to keep the popcorn from burning. Shake, shake, shake and pop, pop, pop until the pan was full to overflowing (溢出). Finally, Mom would empty all the popcorn into a huge bowl and shake salt over it.
After this we would all sit down in the living room, with Dad in his rocking chair, Nana in a chair by the stove, and Mom, my brothers and I on the sofa. There was always enough popcorn for everyone and I even ate the corn grains that didn’t quite finish popping.
The funny thing is that I can’t really remember a single one of the programs that we watched on TV on those nights. They are all just a blur to me. What I can remember clearly, however, is the smell of the popcorn, the warmth of the bowl on my lap, and the delicious taste of the popcorn. The strongest impression I had was of Mom leaning against (倚靠着) me. There with my family, all seemed right with the world. ________ We didn’t have a huge home, a lot of money, or even fancy snacks from the store, but we have love and that was all we needed.

During the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), King Zhao of the State of Yan (燕昭王) wanted to gather talented people to make the state strong. He asked the scholar (有学问的人) Guo Wei for advice. Guo told the king a story.
In ancient times, there was a king who wanted a special kind of horse. This horse could run 1,000 li a day. It was called qianlima. He sent many people to find these horses and buy them for him. After three years, nobody found him such a horse.
One day, someone new volunteered to help. Within three months, he heard about a qianlima. He rushed to find it, but the horse was already dead. Still, he bought the bones of the horse with 500 pieces of gold. The king was very angry. “What I want is a live horse, not the bones of a dead horse!”
The man answered calmly (冷静地), “Imagine this. You’re willing to pay a high price for a dead horse, let alone a live one. This shows people that you truly wish to buy the horses. Just wait and the horses you want will come very soon.” As a result, within a year, many qianlima owners brought their horses to the king. Guo told the king that he could see himself as the bones of the horse. “If I am valued (重视), more talents will be glad to serve the state,” he said. On Xiaohongshu, a lifestyle-sharing platform (平台), over 550,000 posts are tagged (加上标签) with “intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产)”, as young people express their love for traditional crafts.
“In the past two years, young people have shown increasing interest in intangible cultural heritage,” said Zhang Dingjuan, 28, who often shares her bamboo weaving (编织) creations on the platform.
Zhang comes from Sichuan province, known for its rich bamboo resource. She explained that bamboo weaving in the area dates back to the Neolithic era (新石器时代) when it was mainly used for making practical tools. It has since developed into a complex (复杂的) art form.
After graduating from Chengdu University in 2019, Zhang returned to her hometown to work as a bamboo crafts designer. As her interest in the art grew, she traveled to Daoming county in Chengdu, known as the “hometown of bamboo weaving”. There she learned after as killed master.
With a background in product design, Zhang loves trying new ideas in her work. She added a modern touch to traditional bamboo weaving by using new colors and patterns.
One of her excellent pieces, for example, adds blue to the bamboo, which makes the patterns appear more lifelike. Zhang also remembers working with an art student who suggested making metal look like bamboo. This led to new creative ideas, as traditional bamboo weavers have always used bamboo, but thinking outside the box offers more possibilities.
Today, Zhang works with different designers and brands to create different bamboo-woven products. One unexpected partnership was with a keyboard brand (品牌), which invited her to design for their panda-themed keyboard. Zhang created a fan with panda designs, with layered (分层的) colors that produced a surprising effect (效果), mixing a classic look with a modern tech feel." Traditional crafts may have gone away, but now they’re being revived (复活) with new energy and becoming part of our modern lives,” she said.
46. What does the number “over 550,000” in the first paragraph mainly show?
A. The long history of bamboo weaving in China.
B. The great popularity of intangible cultural heritage among young people.
C. The high profits (利润) of selling traditional crafts on social media.
D. The number of bamboo weaving artists in Sichuan province.
47. According to the passage, how has bamboo weaving changed over time?
A. It has become less popular among young people.
B. It has remained the same as in the Neolithic era.
C. It has developed from practical tools into a complex (复杂的) art form.
D. It is now only used for making panda-themed products.
48. What can be inferred from Zhang's partnership with a keyboard brand?
A. Traditional crafts are losing their original (原始的) value.
B. Bamboo weaving is mainly used for modern technology.
C. Young designers prefer to work with international brands.
D. Traditional crafts can be creatively mixed with modern products.
49. What does Zhang Dingjuan think about the future of traditional crafts?
A. Worried that they might disappear.
B. Hopeful that they can be revived (复兴) with new energy.
C. Unsure about their role in modern life.
D. Certain that they should remain unchanged.
50. What’s the structure of the passage?

Where does your food come from? How is it made? These days, many people worry about food safety. But food safety is not a new worry. In 1906, Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle. The book is the story of a poor family in Chicago. It is also about the dangerous ways that food was prepared. People were so worried that the U.S. started testing food.
These days, most food in the world is safe. The reason is laws control where food comes from. They also control how food is managed and prepared. Laws are important. But it’s more important to make sure the rules are followed. A good food safety system keeps people safe. It also helps them eat healthy food. Labels (标签) on food give people important information. Then they can make good choices about their food.
Although food safety systems usually work, there can be problems. Sometimes mistakes are made. For example, a truck might carry eggs and then ice cream. The ice cream could make people sick when the truck isn’t cleaned before carrying it. Other problems are not mistakes. Sometimes companies break rules to make more money. When this happens, people don’t know if their food is safe.
As we all know, food is closely related to our everyday life. We should take action to make food safer!

Now although we have grown up and have our own families, we still have memories of the wonderful popcorn from time to time.
36. What BIG question does Paragraph 2 answer?
A. When were they waiting for popcorn? B. Why was the mother making popcorn?
C. How did Mom make popcorn for them? D. Where were the family eating popcorn?
37. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 3 suggest?
A. There was not enough popcorn. B. Some corn grains would never pop.
C. Mom liked this kind of grains. D. I couldn’t stand parting with the corn.
38. What does the underlined word “blur” mean?
A. Something unclear. B. Something delicious.
C. Something impressing. D. Something lovely.
39. Which of the following can be put in ________?
A. Of all the children, Mom loved me best. B. Mom was the best cook in our family.
C. From Mom, we all learned home cooking. D. We felt so loved, so safe, and so happy.
40. What might be the best title for the passage?

【38题详解】
词义猜测题。根据“The funny thing is that I can’t really remember a single one of the programs that we watched on TV on those nights.”可知,有趣的是“我”真的不记得那些晚上我们在电视上看的任何一个节目了,所以它们对“我”来说都是模糊不清的,“blur”意思是“Something unclear.”。故选A。

推理判断题。根据“There with my family, all seemed right with the world.”以及“We didn’t have a huge home, a lot of money, or even fancy snacks from the store, but we have love and that was all we needed.”可知,和家人在一起,一切似乎都很美好,虽然没有大房子、很多钱,但有家人的爱,所以此处应该是表达“我们感到如此被爱,如此安全,如此快乐”。故选D。
【40题详解】

With the development of the Internet, we found that more and more people’s verbal (口头的) skills are getting worse, including our classmates, friends and parents. ____51____
Many people consider that using Internet slang (俚语) too much is the main reason. For example, if we use “666” to show we’re surprised, it’s hard to tell others how shocked we are. That is because when we use the same expression to express different meanings, we cannot express our thoughts exactly. ____52____ To improve this situation, we should use exact words to express our ideas and feelings more often.
Another important reason could be that we hardly check before texting or speaking. The world of digital communication has made it easier for us to communicate with others. ____53____ As a result, when talking face to face, we might have trouble expressing what’s in our minds.
____54____ First, we should use exact words to express our feelings more often. Second, we need to take digital communication seriously and think carefully about what we want to say. We should be responsible for every word we text or say. Besides, it is very important to keep speaking verbally.
All in all, digital communication has both advantages and disadvantages. ____55____ We shouldn’t depend on digital communication too much.

Weight Management: Start Young
In recent years, with the improvement of people’s living standards, weight management has received more and more attention. Around us, many teenagers are troubled by weight problems. Being overweight often makes them feel tired, lack confidence, and even brings potential health risks like high blood pressure at a young age.
What causes this problem? The main reasons are unhealthy diets and lack of physical activity. Many teenagers eat too much fried food and sugary drinks, and prefer staying indoors playing with phones rather than doing outdoor exercise.
As our country advocates healthy lifestyles, we teenagers can manage our weight from small things. Stick to a balanced diet and take at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. Weight management really should start young.
