So, in 2002, Zhang decided to build a free public high school for girls in the mountains. After six years and lots of hard work, she opened Huaping Girls’ High School. However, it was even harder to make sure the girls were able to come to school every day. Zhang walked to almost every household deep in the mountains and talked to parents about the importance of education for girls. Finally, her hard work paid off.
