Recently, students at Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School at Yangzhou, Jiangsu, welcomed a group of special friends from Ikast-Brande Gymnasium, a school in Denmark. The students spent four days together, taking part in different activities and getting to know each other better.
From art to PE, the students invited their Danish friends to experience the beauty of Chinese culture in many ways. One activity that won the hearts of many Danish students was the Tongcao Flowers Paper Art Workshop. Tongcao flowers are a form of traditional Chinese paper art. Made from soft and light tongcao paper, the flowers look very real. “Turning simple materials into beautiful flowers is like magic,” said a Danish student. “When I had problems, my ‘teacher’ showed me how to do it again and again.”
There are also guzheng, tai chi and traditional Chinese painting classes. While acting as teachers, the Chinese students learned new things as well. “We painted a panda with Denmark’s national flower, the marguerite (木春菊),” said 15-year-old Wu Zixi. “One Danish student told me there is a driving route (路线) in Denmark named after this flower!” This experience also made Chinese students more interested in Danish culture and inspired them to do research after class.
Outside the campus (校园), the Danish students visited famous places in Nanjing and Yangzhou, where they learned about the history and daily life there. “I love the slow pace of life here,” said Danish student Petersen. “It helped me relax and enjoy the present.” Before saying goodbye, the students gave each other gifts. “I gave my new friend a landscape painting (山水画) I made,” said 15-year-old Huang Chaowei. “I hope he enjoyed Chinese culture, and I also wish to visit Denmark one day.”
59. Where did the Chinese students welcome the Danish students?
A. In Beijing. B. In Yangzhou, Jiangsu.
C. In Ikast-Brande Gymnasium. D. In Nanjing.
60. Which activity was popular among many Danish students?
A. The guzheng class.
B. The tai chi class.
C. The Tongcao Flowers Paper Art Workshop.
D. The traditional Chinese painting class.
61. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A. The Chinese students learned nothing while teaching the Danish students.
B. The Danish students painted a panda with the help of their own teachers.
C. The activity helped both groups of students learn about each other’s culture.
D. The driving route in Denmark is named after the Tongcao flowers.
62. What is the best title (标题) for the passage?
A. Beautiful Chinese Paper Art.
B. The History of Yangzhou and Nanjing.
C. Danish Students’ Meaningful Visit to China.

Colors can affect the way we sense, such as taste and flavour (风味). One thing that red seems to express is sweetness.
One study of more than 5,300 people from around the world found that red-coloured drinks were most likely to be thought to be the sweetest.
Marie Wright, chief global flavourist at ADM Nutrition, a food and drink company, describes a special product test for a strawberry flavour. Volunteers found it difficult to tell changes in sweetness. However, when Wright brightened the redness of the drink rather than adding more sugar, the volunteers began reporting that it was tasting sweeter.
“We found you can make something feel sweeter if it’s brighter coloured,” says Wright. “It’s just like a bright red apple: before you bite into it, you expect it to be sweeter.”
Another study looked at how the colour of a wine bottle label (标签) influenced the way volunteers felt the flavour of the red wine within. Red and black labels, for example, made it more likely that they would describe the wine as “tangy”.
One thing is clear: we do eat first with our eyes. When we see an artificially coloured product, we have many expectations about it before we eat it. We might expect a bright blue ice candy, for example, to taste of mint (薄荷). If the blue ice candy tastes of orange, it would likely take longer to identify that flavour.
63. What does the study of over 5,300 people show?
A. People think red drinks are the sweetest.
B. People prefer red drinks to other colors.
C. Red drinks have more sugar than others.
D. Red is the most popular colour for drinks.
64. What can we learn from the example of the blue ice candy?
A. Blue ice candy always tastes of mint.
B. People’s expectations are influenced by colors.
C. It’s hard to change the flavour of ice candy.
D. The colour of food can change its taste completely.
65. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How to make food taste sweeter by changing colors.
B. Why people love bright colors in food and drinks.
C. The influence of colors on people’s sense of taste.
D. Different colors mean different shapes of food.
D
As we celebrated the 2026 Spring Festival, Chinese astronauts on the Tiangong space station were also celebrating: They grew fresh tomatoes in their “space vegetable garden” successfully.
The tomatoes were able to grow in space thanks to an aeroponic cultivation system (雾培养系统) . This system turns water into a fine mist (薄雾) , which easily reaches and feeds the plants’ roots.
Plants take in red and blue light to grow well, so the system uses red, blue, and white LED lights to help different fruits and vegetables grow. It also saves energy. “The result is this wonderful scene of space-grown tomatoes we have before us,” astronaut Zhang Hongzhang told Xinhua.
Astronauts have also successfully grown other vegetables, such as lettuce, in the “space vegetable garden”. Instead of soil, they use a special substrate (基质) that takes in water well and helps send water to the plant roots. When astronauts need to change plants, they can easily move them without causing any harm. This is very useful in space because there is no gravity (重力) .
Right now, the tomatoes are not only food for the astronauts on board, but they also bring joy with their look and smell. “Every time I pass by this area, I want to take a deep breath and enjoy the nice smell,” astronaut Wu Fei told Xinhua.
66. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The aeroponic cultivation system.
B. The LED light system with red, blue, and white lights.
C. The tomatoes grown in space.
D. The special substrate used in space.
67. How does the substrate help plants grow according to Paragraph 4?
A. It takes in light regularly. B. It can recycle useless plants.
C. It helps water their roots easily. D. It can create Earth-like gravity.
68. Why are the space-grown tomatoes important?
A. They offer both food and joy for the astronauts.
B. They give astronauts a sense of being at home.
C. They have become the main food for the astronauts.
D. They help improve farming technology on earth.
69. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To tell us how astronauts harvested fresh tomatoes in their “space vegetable garden”.
B. To introduce the success of growing vegetables in China’s space station.
C. To compare different ways of growing vegetables in space.
D. To explain why astronauts choose to grow tomatoes in space.

In the summer of 2011, Rachel Beckwith just finished third grade. She was looking forward to riding her bike and playing games like skipping with her friends. Then she heard someone say that there were children in Africa who didn’t have clean drinking water. The person was from an organization called Charity: Water, a charity that digs wells for the towns in Africa. The wells provide people with clean water. Without wells, people often have to walk many miles to find water, and then carry it home in buckets (桶). Usually, the water is not clean.
Instead of asking for presents for her ninth birthday, Rachel asked her family and friends to donate $9 to Charity: Water. If she could raise $300, 15 people could get clean drinking water in Africa.
By the time her birthday came, Rachel had raised $220. That meant that 11 people could get clean water. She told her mother that she would try harder the next year to raise more money for the charity. A month later, Rachel was badly injured in a car accident. What’s worse, she died soon on 23 July 2011.
When Rachel’s story spread, people around the world began to donate money in her name. A month later, 30,000 people donated more than $1.2 million to Charity: Water. Because of Rachel Beckwith, 60,000 people in more than 100 villages now have clean water to drink.
70. How did Rachel Beckwith know something about African children?
A. Her teacher mentioned it in class.
B. Her friends told her about it at school.
C. She heard the news from a charity worker.
D. She once watched a TV programme about Africa.
71. What did Rachel do for Africans in Paragraph 3?
A. She asked her mother to help them.
B. She sold her birthday presents for money to help them.
C. She started an online donation in the world.
D. She actively raised money for Charity: Water.
72. Which of the following best describes Rachel Beckwith?
A. Honest. B. Polite. C. Strong-willed. D. Kind.

Would you like to splash (泼洒) water on your friends on a hot summer day? Water Festival is celebrated in different places in the world. Let’s take a look at how some Asian countries celebrate the holiday.
In China, Water Festival is a big holiday and is usually celebrated by some minority groups (少数民族). During the festival, they have a few days off from work. People usually wear traditional clothes and take part in different activities, such as singing, dancing, splashing water and setting off fireworks.
Thailand’s Water Festival marks the beginning of its New Year. It is one of the largest water celebrations in the world. More than one million visitors take part in this festival every year. People play happily with elephants in the water.
In India, the tradition of celebrating water came from the following story. A wise man asked a clever boy when the pride of men would appear.

A. They offer both food and joy for the astronauts.

69. What is the main purpose of the text?

In the summer of 2011, Rachel Beckwith just finished third grade. She was looking forward to riding her bike and playing games like skipping with her friends. Then she heard someone say that there were children in Africa who didn’t have clean drinking water. The person was from an organization called Charity: Water, a charity that digs wells for the towns in Africa. The wells provide people with clean water. Without wells, people often have to walk many miles to find water, and then carry it home in buckets (桶). Usually, the water is not clean.

By the time her birthday came, Rachel had raised $220. That meant that 11 people could get clean water. She told her mother that she would try harder the next year to raise more money for the charity. A month later, Rachel was badly injured in a car accident. What’s worse, she died soon on 23 July 2011.

Dear classmates,
I’m Li Hui. Today I want to talk about how to protect ourselves from drowning.
Millions of children have died from drowning in recent years, so it’s important to keep safe. First, never swim alone in rivers or lakes. Second, we’d better not swim when we feel tired or hungry. If we see someone fall into the water, save him in a proper way. If we fall into the water, we should keep calm, float on our backs and call for help loudly.
In short, safety comes first. Let’s follow these rules to stay safe.
Thank you!
