This change is driven by a “prediction error” — a mismatch between what we expect and what actually happens. A recent study explored how the size of this error influences memory. Researchers asked people to listen to short, natural-sounding dialogues. Later, some of the dialogues were changed in the middle to create a prediction error. Some changes were very small, some were medium, and some were large. The scientists then tested how well people remembered the old form and the new, changed form. The results were surprising. Very small and very large prediction errors helped people remember the old and the new information clearly. Medium-sized errors, however, led to poorer memory for both forms. In addition, large prediction errors improved source memory — that is, remembering when or where the information was first heard. Brain scans gave further clues. When a large prediction error happened, the brain reactivated the old memory while hearing the new version. This process protected the old memory from being changed. However, medium-sized errors caused the old memory to be updated by mixing new information into it. As a result, the old memory became less steady (稳定的). In short, the size of a prediction error determines whether a memory is changed. When things go as expected (small error) or are completely different (large error), the old memory remains unchanged. When things are only somewhat different (medium error), the old memory is more likely to change. These findings may be useful in real life. For example, they could help witnesses (目击者) keep correct memories or help correct false news without harming the old information. Understanding prediction errors could also improve teaching methods by presenting new information in ways that either strengthen or carefully update what students already know. 27.How does error size influence memory? A.All error sizes affect memory in the same manner. B.Small and large errors improve memory performance. C.Medium errors help to keep the old memory unchanged. D.Large errors strengthen source memory but not detail memory. 28.What can we learn from the passage? A.Memory is fixed and cannot be changed by unexpected events. B.People were asked to listen to dialogues and recall them immediately. C.The brain changed the old memory while one heard the new dialogue. D.The size of prediction errors decides whether memory stays steady or updates. 29.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage? A.To prove that old and new memories can’t be trusted. B.To explain how the size of prediction errors affects memory. C.To describe a specific experiment on memory and brain scans. D.To argue that all sizes of prediction errors should be avoided in teaching. D Mindfulness Matters In recent years, some schools have begun to introduce meditation (冥想), or mindfulness training, into their classrooms. During mindfulness training, students may be asked to sit quietly and observe their own thoughts and feelings to avoid being controlled by them. Mindfulness training can help students overcome anxiety, control their behavior, and improve their ability to pay attention in class. Students are expected to learn how to meditate in order to reduce stress and do better in their schoolwork. Among schools that already teach meditation, the results have been positive. In one study, teachers reported that after five weeks of mindfulness practice, their students were more focused. They also participated more fully in class. A middle school in San Francisco reported that a student meditation program led to higher attendance rates and better grades. Another study suggested that meditation helped students perform better on tests by improving their working memory and reducing their anxiety. Many supporters believe that meditation can also help students overcome anxiety. For example, Headstand is a mindfulness education program designed to help students overcome anxiety. A study concluded that ninety-eight percent of participating students felt less stressed after they completed the Headstand program. In another study, researchers in New Haven, Connecticut, followed students who participated in meditation and yoga classes three times a week. They found that after each class, participants had lower levels of cortisol, a stress hormone (激素), in their bodies. Despite the positive results seen so far, critics also point out that much of the current research is not rigorous (严谨的) enough. Associate Professor Tamar Mendelson agrees that research on meditation in children is still in its early stages. However, even she insists that she has seen the positive impact of meditation on children. Others express worries that meditation is not a valuable use of class time. But many disagree. Denise Pope, a professor from Stanford University, says, “This is something teachers can do immediately. You get a lot of bang for your buck and anyone who is against it isn’t thinking clearly.” Indeed, additional studies will surely strengthen our understanding of the benefits of mindfulness. Although still in its early stages, research shows that meditation can help students. Meditation should be a part of every student’s school day. Participating in “stillness” can be just as productive as other school-related activities. 30.Why do some schools introduce mindfulness training into classes? A.To control students’ working memory. B.To reduce students’ stress and anxiety. C.To increase students’ attendance rates. D.To research students’ thoughts and feelings. 31.What can we learn from the passage? A.Mindfulness training is not a valuable use of class time at school. B.Mindfulness training is more productive than other school activities. C.Students felt more stressed after joining yoga classes three times a week. D.Students paid closer attention in class after weeks of mindfulness practice. 32.What is the writer’s main purpose of writing the passage? A.To explain why students suffer from anxiety and stress. B.To introduce the results of a study on mindfulness training. C.To show different opinions on introducing meditation into classrooms. D.To advise that mindfulness should be part of students’ school life. 33.The writer probably agrees that ________. A.further studies will prove the benefits of mindfulness training B.students will become more talented with mindfulness training C.doctors will do researches on the spread of mindfulness training D.mindfulness training decides students’ mental and physical health Recently, a strange but interesting trend called “keeping lobsters” has become popular among young Internet users. You might be surprised—these are not real sea lobsters. They are AI agents (AI智能体), a new kind of smart computer program that can really do tasks for people. The name comes from a popular AI tool called OpenClaw, whose logo is a lobster. In the past, most AI could only chat with you or answer simple questions. They could not take real actions. But today, these “digital lobsters” are able to work like real helpers. After getting your permission, they can control your computer, manage files, write simple code, send emails, and even organize meeting notes. What’s more, these AI agents can learn from your habits and work independently. That is why young people joke that they are “raising” a smart digital pet. This new fashion shows clearly that AI is rapidly changing from a simple talking tool into a practical and helpful assistant in our daily life. 34.Where does the name “keeping lobsters” come from? 35.What could most AI only do in the past? 36.Why do young people joke that they are “raising” a smart digital pet? 37.Do you think AI agents will be helpful in your daily life? Why or why not? 提示词语:show, popular, spend, balance, helpful 内容提示: ●What can you learn from the results? ●Offer some advice to your classmates on choosing free-time activities. But do you know a (n) 13 six-year-old kid can do a wonderful job? Last Monday, six-year-old Beanie was having lunch at school. Her friend Aniyah sat by her, 14 an apple. It can change when we face something unexpected. 原文第三段“Very small and very large prediction errors helped people remember the old and the new information clearly.” 28.原文第五段“In short, the size of a prediction error determines whether a memory is changed.” D Mindfulness Matters In recent years, some schools have begun to introduce meditation (冥想), or mindfulness training, into their classrooms. A.further studies will prove the benefits of mindfulness training B.students will become more talented with mindfulness training C.doctors will do researches on the spread of mindfulness training D.mindfulness training decides students’ mental and physical health 【答案】30.B 31.D 32.D 33.A 【导语】本文是一篇议论文,讨论学校引入正念训练的益处(如减轻压力、提升专注力),虽有争议,但作者主张正念应成为学生校园生活的一部分。 30. 31.第二段提到:“after five weeks of mindfulness practice, their students were more focused”,即学生注意力更集中。 32.最后一段强调:“Meditation should be a part of every student’s school day”,表明作者目的是建议正念纳入校园生活。 33.第四段提到:“additional studies will surely strengthen our understanding of the benefits”,说明作者认同进一步研究将证明正念益处。 Recently, a strange but interesting trend called “keeping lobsters” has become popular among young Internet users.
