Have you ever seen or used a saw, or “ju” in Chinese? Do you know who invented it?
The inventor was Lu Ban. He was born in the State of Lu in ancient China more than2,500 years ago. That is where Qufu lies in the east of Jining.
Lu Ban was the greatest carpenter(木匠) in his time. Once the king ordered him and his team to build a palace in a very short time. They would be punished if they missed the deadline(最后期限). They had only axes. Or “fuzi” in Chinese, to cut the trees and prepare the wood for the palace, so work was very slow.
One day Lu Ban rushed up the hill to see how things were going. Suddenly the sharp teeth of a leaf cut his hand. Then a bright idea came into his head. Soon he made a tool with teeth along the side of a long iron bar(条状物). With this tool, work became much faster, and they completed the work before the deadline.
That is how the saw was invented.
Lu Ban invented many other useful tools for carpenters and interesting toys for children. The wooden bird, for example, could stay in the air for three days. That's why he is regarded as the “God of Carpentry”.

Sugar painting is a traditional Chinese folk art that has a history of over 500 years. It is not only a form of art but also a sweet treat. Artists use melted(融化的) sugar to create beautiful designs, such as animals or flowers. The process is like drawing with a brush, but instead of ink, they use sugar syrup(糖浆).
The art of sugar painting is mainly found in the northern part of China. In the past, it was often seen at festivals or in busy markets. People, especially children, loved to watch the artists at work. They would gather around, excited to see what kind of design would be made next. Once the design was finished, the artist would place a stick on the back of the sugar painting and give it to the customer. It was both a toy and a snack!
To make sugar paintings, artists need special skills. They must be quick and exact because the sugar syrup cools down and hardens quickly. They also need to have a good imagination to create different shapes. The most common designs are dragons, phoenixes(凤凰) and flowers, which are symbols of good luck in Chinese culture.
Nowadays, sugar painting is becoming less common because of modern snacks and busy lifestyles. However, it is still loved by many people. Some artists are trying to keep this traditional art alive by teaching it to the younger generation. They believe that sugar painting is not just about making sweets, and it is also about passing down the culture and history of China.
Sugar painting is a wonderful example of how art and life can be combined. It shows the creativity and wisdom of the Chinese people. It is hoped that this traditional art will continue to be passed down and cherished for many years to come.

As we all know, there are kinds of traditional art forms in China. Recently, more and more teenagers are interested in experiencing traditional culture. As for me, I like calligraphy best.
When I was young, I liked the beautiful handwriting of the people in the past. So I started to learn Chinese calligraphy when I was in Grade 2. I listened to the teacher carefully and I spent most of my free time writing on the paper. Although it was difficult, I never gave up. I learn a lot from calligraphy. On the one hand, it helps me be patient. On the other hand, it's a really good way to relax.
In the future, I will join the calligraphy club in our school and call on more people to enjoy the beauty of Chinese calligraphy.
