三、阅读理解
Volunteering is a meaningful social activity that allows teenagers to grow and improve themselves. In modern society, more and more young people take part in different kinds of volunteer activities in their free time. These activities include caring for lonely old people, protecting the environment, helping stray animals, guiding public order and supporting rural education. Volunteering is not about making money. It is about giving love, passing warmth and realizing personal value.
Last term, our school organized a volunteer team. I joined it together with many classmates. Every Sunday morning, we go to the old people’s community near our school. Most old people there live alone and seldom communicate with others. We help them clean their rooms, wash clothes and buy daily necessities. We also chat with them, listen to their old stories and sing old songs for them. Some old people have poor eyesight, so we read newspapers and books to help them know new news outside.
I used to be a shy boy who was afraid of talking with strangers. But after months of volunteering, I have changed a lot. I become outgoing, confident and good at communicating with others. I also learn to understand and care about others’ feelings. When I see the warm smiles on the old people’s faces, I feel a strong sense of happiness and achievement. This kind of happiness can never be got from study or entertainment.
Besides helping the elderly, our team also takes part in environmental protection activities. We pick up rubbish in the park, plant young trees and call on people to protect wild plants. We hand out leaflets to tell citizens the importance of low-carbon life and environmental protection. These small actions can make our city cleaner and more beautiful little by little.
Many teenagers think volunteering is tiring and useless, but I hold a different opinion. Volunteering teaches us responsibility, gratitude and teamwork. It broadens our horizons and enriches our after-school life. As middle school students, we are the future of the society. We should take an active part in volunteer activities, use our small power to warm the world and become better versions of ourselves.

Hello, everyone. Today I want to introduce a world-famous charity called Doctors Without Borders (MSF). It is also known as Médecins Sans Frontières in French. 1 It was founded in France in 1971 by a group of caring doctors and journalists. These people hoped to provide fair and quick medical help for poor and sick people all over the world.
2 They are willing to leave their comfortable homes and work in dangerous and poor areas. These places may be war zones, flood-hit areas or places with terrible diseases. Local people there always lack clean water, food and basic medical services. 3
The biggest rule of MSF is simple and warm. 4 No matter what people’s ages, colours, nationalities or religions are, the volunteers will offer free medical treatment to anyone in need. They never refuse patients because of their background.
MSF does not accept money from any government. 5 All the money is used to buy medicine, build simple medical stations and train local medical workers. Thanks to these selfless volunteers, thousands of people’s lives are saved every year.
A. Its volunteers include doctors, nurses and medical workers from different countries.
B. It is one of the most influential international medical charities in the world.
C. So people there are easily hurt or fall seriously ill without proper treatment.
D. It mainly depends on voluntary donations from common people all over the world.
E. It provides medical help for every person in need equally.
F. It only offers help to children in African countries.

Our environment is facing serious problems such as plastic pollution and resource waste these days. It is everyone’s duty to live a green life and protect our only home. Our country encourages all people to follow the 3R rules: reduce, reuse and recycle.
First of all, we should reduce waste in our daily life. We’d better avoid using disposable plastic products which are bad for soil and air. Secondly, we can reuse old items like glass bottles and cloth bags instead of throwing them away. Thirdly, we need to sort our waste so that useful materials can be recycled again.
Besides waste sorting, green travel is also important. We can take public transport, walk or ride bikes to cut down air pollution. What’s more, we should save water and electricity at home. Remember to turn off taps and lights when they are not in use. Small good habits can make a big difference to our green world.
回答下面5个问题,每题答案不超过6个单词。
1. What problems is our environment facing?
2. What are the 3R environmental rules?
3. What plastic products should we avoid?
4. How can we cut down air pollution?
5. What resources should we save at home?
