Zhang Xue is a famous Chinese businessman and motorcycle racer (摩托车赛车手). He was born in a small village in Hunan in 1987. His story is very inspiring for young people. He left school at 14 and worked as an apprentice (学徒) in a repair shop. His hands were often dirty with oil, but he had a big dream of making the best Chinese motorcycle.
In 2006, when he was 19, he did something amazing to get noticed: He rode his old motorcycle for 100 kilometers in the heavy rain just to follow a TV reporter. He wanted a chance to show his skills. His hard work paid off, and he became a professional racer.
However, he soon realized that he could not always ride the fastest bikes because they were all made by foreign brands. So, he made a brave decision: “If I cannot ride the fastest bike, I will build one.” In 2024, he started his own company, “Zhang Xue Motor,” in Chongqing. He kept his mind on developing powerful engines by himself.
In March 2026, his dream came true. A French rider won the World Superbike Championship in Portugal on a Zhang Xue motorcycle. This was the first time a Chinese brand won this top race, breaking the long history of European and Japanese brands winning.
Zhang Xue did not give up even when people laughed at him. He proved that with love and hard work, an ordinary person can stand on top of the world. On April 19, 2026, the world’s first half marathon (半程马拉松) for humans and two-legged human-like robots was held in Beijing. Around 12,000 human runners and more than 300 robots joined the special race at the same time. It was a new and exciting sports event that drew lots of people’s attention all over the country.
A robot called “Lightning” created a new history in the race. It successfully finished the 21-kilometre half marathon in 50 minutes and 26 seconds. Its speed was even faster than the top human half-marathon world record. At first, a robot controlled by people from far away ran quicker. However, according to the race rules, its final time would be multiplied (乘以) by 1.2. For this reason, “Lightning”, as a fully self-running robot, turned out to be the real winner of the competition.
This year’s event made great progress compared with the one in 2025. The winner robot last year needed over two hours to finish the whole race, and only a small number of teams could finish it with human help. But this year, there were over 100 robot teams in total, and nearly 40 percent of them were able to run independently with the support of sensors (传感器) and cameras.
The race is far more meaningful than just a competition. Running in real outdoor conditions helps robots improve their battery life, heat control and quick decision-making ability. These basic skills are very important for robots to work in factories, provide daily home service, or take part in disaster rescue work. It also makes smart robots come closer to our everyday life.
