The next day, we entered the Strait of Jubail, which leads to the Gulf of Suez (苏伊士湾). A few hours later, Captain Nemo told me that the Nautilus was about to enter the tunnel that led to the Mediterranean (地中海). It was difficult to enter the tunnel, so he drove the ship himself and invited me to watch. It was the first time I had been in the pilot’s dome. The captain turned on a powerful electric light, and we went slowly along a rock wall for about an hour. Then, I saw the opening of the tunnel, and the Nautilus entered it. The water flowed through the tunnel very quickly and carried the Nautilus along with it, and in only twenty minutes, we were in the Mediterranean.
A day or two later, it came closer to the surface again. We were close to Crete. I was looking at the fish through the windows with Captain Nemo when suddenly I saw a man swimming to the window, and Captain Nemo made a sign to him. He swam away, and I did not see him again.
“That was Nicholas,” said the captain. “He lives on an island but spends more time in the water than on land.”
“Do you know him?” I asked.
“Why not, Dr. Aronnax?” He opened a cupboard and I saw that it was full of gold bars. He filled a large box with them, closed it, and wrote an address on it. Four men carried the box out of the room. I went back to my room. What was Captain Nemo doing?
Soon, I realized that the Nautilus was back on the surface, and I heard the dinghy leave. Two hours later, it returned. I wondered where they had taken the gold. I told Ned and Conseil about it. “Where does he get the gold, and where does it go?” we wondered.
Toward the end of the next day, it became very hot in the Nautilus. Captain Nemo explained that we were in a stream of boiling water. We were above an underwater volcano (火山) that was erupting (爆发). It was too hot to stay there long.

A great cultural event took place in Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province. The English-language The Peony Pavilion (牡丹亭) by Tang Xianzu was performed (表演) in China for the first time. At the same time, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Dream of Nanke were also performed. These plays created a dialogue across time and space and showed the shared human feelings of Tang Xianzu and William Shakespeare (莎士比亚).
Tang Xianzu from China and William Shakespeare from England were great writers during the mid-16th century. Though they never met, their works share many similarities. Their works were about themes like love, life and human spirits, and often used “dreams” in plays to express feelings that still touch people today. This idea was shown clearly at a gala held by CCTV in Fuzhou.
In the drama Tang & Shakespeare, The Peony Pavilion and Romeo and Juliet appeared on the same stage. The performance showed Eastern “pure love” and Western “devoted love”, proving that writers from different cultures can express similar feelings about love and life.
The English-language The Peony Pavilion was successful in bringing Eastern and Western cultures together. However, it also faced a challenge: how to make the special singing and music of Kunqu opera easy to understand for English people? To solve this problem, the actors used rhythms (韵律) often found in Shakespeare’s plays and mixed Western and Chinese styles in movement, dance and music. With actors from different countries, the performance became a real cultural exchange, not just a translation.
Another exciting part of the event was the “Tang-Shakespeare Legacy: Youth Dialogue”, which brought together young actors from China and the UK. These young artists not only keep traditions alive, but also bring new ideas to classic works. Their work proves that cultural differences are bridges, not barriers (障碍). As we witness the exchange, we are reminded that the influence of Tang and Shakespeare is not limited to their time but lives on in every play, every shared story, and every heart it touches.
33. What do we know about Tang and Shakespeare according to the passage?
A. They worked together to write plays. B. They were writers in different periods.
C. They wrote plays in the same country. D. They used dreams to express feelings.
34. How did the performers help English speakers enjoy The Peony Pavilion?
A. By inviting many famous international actors. B. By changing the old story into a modern one.
C. By using Western rhythms and mixing art styles. D. By explaining the play before each performance.
35. Why are young artists important in this cultural event?
A. They help make the performance shorter. B. They bring new life to traditional works.
C. They follow old traditions without change. D. They decide which plays to be performed.
36. Which idea is best supported by the passage as a whole?
A. Chinese artists play an important role in this cultural event.
B. Traditional art should be protected without making changes.
C. Cultural differences lead to misunderstandings without dialogue.
D. Cultural exchange helps classical works connect different cultures.
【答案】33. D 34. C 35. B 36. D

As we walk the “path of life”, we may sometimes wish to be alone with our own thoughts, for quiet moments of reflection (反省) can lead to personal improvement. However, when we want to be alone, we must be careful so we do not always jump into our own world. Social life is also important to all of us.
As we live in social groups, there are many advantages of friendship that we can enjoy. Generally speaking, close friendships have three “fruits”: they may comfort the heart, advise the head and help us realize the dreams we are searching for. Through friendship, we can become happier, wiser and more satisfied humans.
The first fruit of friendship is the peace that comes from sharing with friends our joy, sadness, success and failure. Here, friendship has a double advantage. Happiness shared will become happiness doubled and trouble shared will become trouble halved! Naturally, this kind of openness results from a close friendship. We know that our friends will both respect our feelings and treasure these moments of closeness.
The second fruit of friendship is the better understanding and judgement by talking with friendly and wise friends. We often find it easier to recognize other people’s weaknesses than our own. As a result, if we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgements might be one-sided. On the other hand, our friends are better able to offer advice on important decisions that we all have to make. This helps make our thoughts clearer and brings us a more thorough (彻底的) understanding of our problems.
The third fruit of friendship is the help that a friend may offer in many different ways. Sometimes a friend is even known as our “second self”. There are so many things in life that can only be achieved with the help of friends. Friends may have many different ideas and skills.
Finally, it should be pointed out that enjoying the happiness of staying with a group of people is not the same as being with friends. Friends should be carefully chosen and relationships should be carefully developed. In this way, we can better walk the “path of life” with the comfort, advice and help from our trusted friends.
37. According to the passage, close friendships have some “fruits” except ________.
A. making our hearts peaceful B. realizing our dreams with friends’ help
C. guiding our own feelings easily D. understanding our problems better
38. We can achieve better understanding by talking with wise friends because ________.
A. it is more difficult to realize other people’s weaknesses than our own
B. our judgements won’t be one-sided if we are guided only by our feelings
C. our friends are able to offer better advice on our important decisions
D. it gives us a chance to completely understand our friends’ problems
39. Which shows the best structure of the passage?
A. ①/②/③/④⑤⑥ B. ①/②③④/⑤⑥
C. ①/②③④/⑤/⑥ D. ①/②/③④⑤/⑥
40. What is the best title for the passage?

【37题详解】
第二段提到“close friendships have three ‘fruits’: they may comfort the heart...and help us realize the dreams”,A项(making our hearts peaceful)和 B项(realizing our dreams)属于友谊的果实;根据第四段“brings us a more thorough understanding of our problems”可知,D项(understanding our problems better)属于友谊的果实。而第四段提到“if we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgements might be one-sided”,说明仅靠自己的感受容易导致判断片面,并非友谊带来的益处。

第四段提到“On the other hand, our friends are better able to offer advice on important decisions that we all have to make. This helps make our thoughts clearer and brings us a more thorough understanding of our problems.”,通过与明智的朋友交谈能获得更好理解,是因为朋友能对我们必须做的重要决定提供更好的建议,从而使思路更清晰。

Beijing Robot Marathon (马拉松)
Robots can already shop, cook and clean. Now they can run half marathons (21.1 km). On April 19th, 2026 in Beijing, robots crossed the finish line ahead of humans for the first time. And they didn’t even sweat (流汗).
Human runners fell to the ground, red-faced and tired. But the robots stood tall and unhurt. The winning robot, named Lightning, was made by Honor Company. It finished the race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds. That is faster than the human world record of 57 minutes and 20 seconds, set by a Ugandan runner in March.
This is a big improvement from last year’s first robot race. In 2025, the winning robot took 2 hours and 40 minutes—more than twice the human winner’s time. Most robots couldn’t even finish. This year, several robots ran faster than professional human athletes. Nearly half of them navigated (导航) the race by themselves, without remote control.
Engineer Du Xiaodi said Lightning was developed for one year. Its legs are like top human runners. It uses liquid cooling technology from smartphones. It will change many industries, such as manufacturing (制造业).
Audience members were impressed. Sun Zhigang said, “This is the first time robots have beaten humans. I never imagined that.” Wang Wen added, “Robots might bring changes to sports.” However, there were small problems. One robot fell at the start line. Another robot had to stop because of a technical barrier.

To celebrate the Year of the Horse in China, the Spring Festival Gala introduced its new mascots (吉祥物). Let’s welcome Qiqi, Jiji, Chichi, and Chengcheng! These four horses are cute and full of energy. Their designs mix ancient history with modern art. Let’s meet them one by one.
Qiqi’s design is based on the famous Bronze Colt-shaped Zun of Lord Li (蠡驹尊) from the Western Zhou Dynasty. It has a dark colour and wears a high hair bun. Qiqi looks calm, polite, and full of big dreams.
Jiji takes its design from the Han Dynasty. Its body looks like the famous Bronze Galloping Horse (铜奔马). Look at its wings! They spread wide for the horse to fly high. The design of the wings comes from an ancient bronze umbrella handle. How brave and confident Jiji looks!
Chichi shows the style of the Tang Dynasty. It is a Three-maned Horse. Its mane (鬃毛) is shaped into three bunches. This style was for the highest-ranking horses long ago. Chichi looks brave and strong.
Chengcheng is a Przewalski’s horse (普氏野马)—the only wild horse species alive today! China now has the world’s largest number of them. This is a great achievement in wildlife protection. Chengcheng looks strong and fit, showing the good relationship between humans and the earth.
