Just as he was about to eat, something coming made him think of danger! “Oh, don’t be afraid!” said the fox. “I don’t like the taste of squirrel, and there are enough apples here for both of us!” The squirrel decided to stay, but kept an eye on the fox! He picked up an apple and began eating it. When he finished, he put the core (核) on the ground. The fox swallowed (吞) some apples, seeds and all! “Delicious!” he said, with a smile. “Why are you swallowing the apples and their seeds?” the squirrel asked angrily. “If you don’t leave the seeds, how will new apple trees grow?” The fox laughed. “You are silly! There will always be more apples!” The squirrel knew the fox was wrong, so he carried the cores of his apples to the far side of the forest. He dug holes there and put an apple core in each one. Next spring, the squirrel was excited to see little trees. Over the next few years, the small ones grew big. The squirrel and his children often played and enjoyed the delicious apples in autumn! The fox kept going back to the old apple tree every year. As the tree grew older, it gave less fruit. Rainforests (热带雨林) are some of the most amazing places on Earth. They cover only about 6% of the world’s land, but are home to more than half of all living things. These dense forests are full of life, from tiny insects to large animals, and from small plants to tall trees. The rainforest has different layers. The top layer is called the emergent layer, where the tallest trees reach up to 70 meters. Below that is the canopy, a thick layer of leaves and branches that stops most sunlight from reaching the layers below. Next is the understory, with smaller trees and bushes. The bottom layer is the forest floor, where only a little sunlight gets through. Many rainforest animals have special skills to live in their layers. For example, sloths hang from the canopy branches. Their long claws help them stay there, and their slow movement helps them save energy. Toucans have big beaks to reach fruit on thin branches that can’t hold their weight. On the forest floor, jaguars use their spots to hide in the shadows while hunting. Rainforests are important for the whole world. They take in carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) and give out oxygen (氧气), which helps keep the air clean. They also help control the world’s weather. But rainforests are in danger. Every year, large areas are cut down for wood or to make space for farms. This destroys the homes of many animals and plants, and may even change the world’s climate. ( )1.What percentage of the world’s land do rainforests cover? A.About 6%. B.About 16%. C.About 26%. D.About 36%. ( )2.What does the word “dense” mean in the first paragraph? A.Dry. We will just tell it what we want, and it will do it for us. This will make our homes more comfortable and save energy. Fourth, AI will help us stay safe. It will watch over our homes and cars, and let us know if something is wrong. It will also help us find our way if we get lost. This will make us feel more secure. At the break of day, Ehemat Tohti, a 55-year-old electrical (电气的) worker and his workmates prepared their equipment and embarked on their journey into the heart of the Taklimakan Desert, China’s largest desert (沙漠), to begin a day of patrolling (巡逻). They are responsible for checking and fixing a 220kV transmission line (输电线) crossing this desert, also known as the “Sea of Death”. “We need to cross the desert once a month to check the 729 transmission towers in order to ensure the power supply (供电) for counties and villages along the Taklimakan. The work is challenging, yet meaningful,” Ehemat Tohti said. In the fall, at noon, the desert’s surface is still hot, while the temperature between morning and evening has changed greatly. “Now the temperature difference between morning and evening is about 20℃. It was cold when we set off. As we went further, the temperature grew, only to fall down again in the evening. So it’s necessary to take both heavy and light clothing,” he said. Since most of the route was impossible to reach by car, they needed to travel by motorcycle and on foot for their work. Walking through the desert was difficult. “The harsh environment is not only unbearable for people, but also can easily cause breakdowns of their motorcycles. Moreover, the hidden roots of red willow and Populus euphratica trees, buried under the sand, often puncture the tires, making an unseen danger,” he said. “The desert is beautiful, but it’s also unpredictable. So you don’t know what you’re going to meet,” he added. They face lots of challenges during their patrols, including floods, swamps, and meeting wild animals such as boars and foxes. Luckily, in 2022, drones (无人机) came to help their patrol work. “Human workers can patrol up to about 20 power towers a day, but with the help of drones, we can cover nearly 100 towers.” Ehemat Tohti also said that he didn’t plan to retire. “I want to share my experience and skills with more people and keep learning more knowledge.” ( )1.The writer mentions the name of “Sea of Death” mainly to show that ______. The first great invention is the one that is still very important today—the wheel. This makes it easier to carry heavy things and to travel long distances. For hundreds of years after that there were few inventions that had as much effect as the wheel. Then in the early 1800s the world started to change. There was little unknown land left in the world. People didn't have to explore much any more. They began to work in order to make life better. In the second half of the 19th century, many great inventions were made. Among them were the camera, the light and the radio. These all play a big part in our daily life today. The first part of the 20th century saw more great inventions. The helicopter in 1909, movies with sound in 1926, the computer in 1946, jet planes in 1939. It was also a time when a new material was first made—Nylon (尼龙), which came out in 1935. It changed the kind of clothes people wore. The middle part of the 20th century brought new ways to help people get over diseases. They worked very well. They made people healthier and allowed them to live longer. By the 1960s most people could expect to live to be at least 60. By this time most people in developed countries had a very good life. Of course new inventions continued to be made. But man now had a desire (渴望) to explore again. The Earth was known to man but stars were not. Man began looking for ways to go into space. Russia, United States, China and Japan have made their own steps into space. In 1969, man took his biggest step away from the Earth. Americans first walked on the Moon. This is certainly just a beginning, though. New inventions will someday allow us to do things we have never yet dreamed of. ( )1.In the 1800s, people began to work in order to make ________. Talking to yourself actually has a lot of benefits. You probably know that thinking is good for the brain. It helps us do things like making plans and managing our feelings.Speaking out loud is like showing this quiet inner(内在的)speech. It can help us do better in different areas like school, sports and work. When encouragement comes from oneself, it adds to self-confidence.A study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches.Researchers put the players into two groups : one group that said nothing while playing, and the other that talked to themselves while playing. They found that the self-talkers showed more confidence and played better than those in the silent group. Talking to yourself, especially in the third person, can also help us manage bad feelings.“Referring to(指代) yourself in the third person leads people to think about themselves more similar to how they think about others, said Jason Moser, a professor from Michigan State University, US. This can help us see things from a different aspect(角度),especially when we're feeling sad or angry. Self-talking also helps improve memory. Researchers tested four different ways to memorize things : reading silently, reading aloud, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of oneself reading. Those who read out loud recalled the information the best, researchers said in their study. It's because the information is likely to become a long-term memory if it is said out loud. ( )1._________means “benefits" in Paragraph 1. Do you have true friends? Do you want to know better between you and your friends? There are three different kinds of friends; “pest friends”, “guest friends”, and “best friends”. The first kind of friend is an acquaintance (熟人), and all you usually know about them is their names. You may meet this kind of friend at school, or on the bus, but you don't miss them when they're not around. When this kind of friend does something bad, you don't tell them. That is why they are called “pest friends”. The second kind of friend could also be called “social partners”. They are closer than acquaintances, but not as close as true friends. You know their names, a little of what they like or dislike, and a little of their family histories; you usually have a few things in common, but you don't talk about anything deep, such as your wishes or fears (恐惧), and they don't open up to you how they really feel. The last kind of friend, the “best friend”, is the one you know the deepest. You're like family, and know everything about each other. You have no problem staying at each other's houses, and you share your deepest feelings and thoughts. They will correct you when you're wrong. They will always care about you, and never do anything on purpose (故意地) to hurt you. We all have our pest, guest and best friends. We should value (重视) all friendships and remember, all best friends start out as just acquaintances. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案。 ( )1.How does the writer start the passage? A.By giving examples. But what about free time when parents are around? Some teenagers want to play freely without parents watching over them, while parents and experts might think differently. Lin Tao, a middle school student, believes teenagers should be able to play freely. “Last time I played with my parents nearby, I had a knot in my stomach and was unable to have a really good time,” Lin says. “My friend Chen Xiaoxin has the same kind of experiences. Once, he went out to play with his classmates, and everyone felt uncomfortable because his mother was watching.” Wang Min, Lin Tao’s mother, thinks playtime needs parents’ supervision (监督). She says, “People often say I like to restrain my child, but that’s not true. I’m just worried he might get into trouble. Some kids might have a bad effect on him, and some games like LARP (剧本杀) might lead him the wrong way. He could even lose himself into the stories and have a hard time getting back to real life.” Mr. Ma, a social studies doctor, says it’s easy to understand that teenagers want freedom. Playing freely helps them learn to be independent (独立的). Parents can give them more space. They don’t have to watch them all the time. But teenagers should know all the details (细节) about the activities before they go to play. Then they can talk with their parents and decide together if they can go out to play by themselves. In my view, both teenagers’ freedom and parents’ supervision are important. They need free time, and they also need parents’ proper (恰当的) supervision. ( )1.Lin Tao supports his own idea by ________. A.giving examples B.raising questions C.comparing facts D.listing numbers ( )2.What does the underlined word “restrain” probably mean? A.Hurt. B.Control. C.Protect. D.Encourage. D.Xie Hao told his parents where to go and whom to play with before playtime. ( )4.What’s the main idea of the text? A.Teenagers need free time to be independent. B.Parents should keep an eye on their children all the time. C.Teenagers can’t play LARP without parents’ supervision. D.Teenagers need both freedom and parents’ proper supervision. 进阶拔高层 Have you ever heard some people describe themselves as INTJs or ESTPs? Do you want to know what these letters mean? These people describe themselves in terms of the personality types classified (分类) by the Myers - Briggs Type Indicator ( MBTI ). The test was developed by Isabel Myers and her mother Katharine Briggs according to their work with Carl Jung's ideas about personality types. The MBTI is a self - report test developed to help people know about their own personality type, strengths, likes and dislikes. It is not used to test your mental (精神的) health. There are no right or wrong answers. No one personality type is the best or the worst. In recent years, the MBTI has been used in more and more areas.__★__People take the test and it can help them to learn about what the best jobs are for each MBTI type. For example, ESTPs can easily go into marketing (营销), while ISTPs should become engineers. However, we should know that it is only a guide, and it cannot decide our dream jobs. The MBTI personality test may show us something we don't know about ourselves. But we should not take its result too seriously. Who we are is shaped by our thoughts, values and daily behaviours. The result of the test can't define (定义) who we are. ( )1.How does the writer start this passage? A. By asking questions. B. By giving examples. C. By telling stories. D. By showing opinions. ( )2. We should not define ourselves by a simple test. C. The MBTI is a good topic to share with our friends. D. We need to set good values and become nice people. Progress means the act of going forward. Making any kind of progress can make us healthy and happy in life. By setting and actively working towards our goals, we can make progress in our life. To make more progress in life, start looking at problems in a different way. Whatever happens, if we think positively, we can make more progress and become stronger. Having confidence (信心) is helpful for us to make progress. Confidence comes from different places, such as proper education. Slow progress is still progress. Just as the old saying goes, “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” Progress usually comes a lot more slowly than we expect. Even if progress is slow, try not to be worried. One important thing is that we keep taking steps towards our goals. The road to progress is not always smooth. Most progress often comes with setbacks along the way. Sometimes, maybe it feels like we’re taking one step forward and three steps back, but it won’t always be like that. Keep going towards our goals and we can much more easily make the progress we want. Progress doesn’t always happen in a straight line. As long as we keep working, we will achieve higher levels. ( )1.What does progress make us do? A.Set lifelong goals. B.Go forward easily. C.Live healthily and happily. D.Think about new things. ( )2.What does Paragraph 3 tell us? A.We should support different people. B.Some people can push us to failure. C.Confidence helps us make progress. D.Different schools expect the same progress. Have you ever had any conflicts (冲突) with your best friend? In fact, even the closest friends can cause conflicts without understanding or enough communication. Emma and Lily were best friends since junior high school. They shared secrets, hobbies, and laughter. However, things changed when Emma joined a science club. She spent less time with Lily who felt uncomfortable to be ignored (忽视). One day, Lily posted a sad message online, “Some people forget old friends when they find new ones.” Emma saw it and thought Lily was laughing at her. They stopped talking, and their friendship seemed ruined. After a week of silence, Emma felt hurt and turned to Mrs. Li who was her teacher for help. Mrs. Li told her that friendship conflicts often start with misunderstanding. Here are some tips from Mrs Li: 1. Speak calmly: Use “I feel” sentences instead of blaming (责备). 2. Listen patiently: Understand the other’s feelings. 3. Compromise (妥协): Find the ways that work for both to solve problems. Emma decided to talk to Lily. She said, “I miss you. I didn’t mean to make you feel ignored.” Lily said sorry too, “I shouldn’t post the sad message online. I was just sad.” They knew their mistakes. Every friendship has conflicts, but real friends work through them. As the saying goes, “A true friend is someone who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.” When we talk honestly (坦诚地), we can turn conflicts into chances to make our friendship even stronger. Each summer 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy but to find meaning and fun in work. Some teenagers work in the forests or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and to build houses. 2 They have several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. How do you choose and organize your subjects within your photo? 1. Here are some tips from the art, design and photography experts. Find a focus. When taking a picture, ask yourself,“ What's the focus?” If you are taking a picture of a crowded street, choose a subject which draws your eye. 2. If it's a landscape photo of a field, the focus could be a big tree. Remember the rule of thirds. It's a bit boring to put your subject right in the middle.3. . Imagine your photo is divided into a three- by- three grid(网格) of boxes. One of the corners of your central square is where your focus should be. Create colorful contrasts(对比). Color in a picture is more easily noticed if it has a contrast. 4. They will stand out more if they are taken beside a grey stone wall, or photographed against a bright blue sky. Try different angles. To add more interest to a photo, try taking it from different angles. This means you need to move around, taking photos from different sides, from above or from below. For example, if you photograph a building from a plane it looks tiny but a photo of the same building looking up from the street makes it look huge. 5. Practice makes perfect. Try everything for the perfect shot. A.Place the photo correctly. B.It can tell a different story. C.Think about focus, color, light and more. D.It could be a person wearing bright colors. E.If you take a picture of yellow flowers, don't fill your picture with them. F.Place it a little on the  left or right of your photo. 阅读表达 Ne Zha 2 is an amazing film and lots of people go to the cinema to watch it. I also watched it with my friends. The film shows Ne Zha's growth. At first, Ne Zha was an impulsive (冲动的) boy. Later, after going through a lot of challenges, he began to realise his own problems and then changed himself, becoming someone who does the right thing. After watching the movie, some thoughts came to my mind. I used to care what people thought of me. I always worried no one liked me. So I seldom refused others' requests and easily agreed with others' opinions. But now I ask myself," Is that important? The bias (偏见)in people's minds is like a mountain, which can't be removed however hard we try." It's just like after the Chentang Pass was destroyed (摧毁)everyone thought it was Shen Gongbao who did it. After watching this film, I want to say," We cannot change others' minds easily, so just be ourselves. If we are doing what we think is right, just do it. Don't be influenced by others' opinions." Now, I've changed a lot. I pay more attention to myself and speak out my ideas bravely. If I don't want to do something, I will turn it down. I have to say that good films are really important for shaping our values. 1. Who did the writer watch the movie with? __________________________________________________________. 2. What kind of person does Ne Zha become later? __________________________________________________________. 3. Why did the writer care about others'opinions? _________________________________________________________. 4. The Sport of Concentration Every day, it seems, a new gadget (设备) promises to help me run farther and faster, sleep better, or monitor my heart rate more effectively. These gadgets claim they’ll make me a “better me”,  or so the story goes. Some of them might actually help, but a few months ago. I decided to sell all my sports gadgets. I now record my running times with just a pen and a notepad. Soon after, I started training for a marathon the old-fashioned way—without a device on my wrist tracking my pace or heart rate. To my surprise, running without all that information turned out to be a real joy. In the past, whenever my smartwatch told me I was running slower than I “should,” I’d force myself to speed up, even if it was clear that my body didn’t want to. But this time, I ran the way I wanted to. On several occasions, I was surprised to see real breakthroughs (突破) in my running times when I checked my notepad after workouts. If I had seen those numbers during the run, I might have slowed down. But since I didn’t know, I just kept running. Another positive thing about getting rid of all my running gadgets is that it’s helping me concentrate (集中注意力) more on the running itself. Since I no longer feel like I need technology to run well, I can go out and run without worrying about battery life. So, what’s the lesson here? Well, we could very easily replace the example of running with writing, studying, or anything else. No matter what it is, the more we worry about improving, the more it hurts our performance. Should you stop using technology to “improve” your performance? Of course, that’s up to you. However, if I were asked that question, I’d certainly say that I’m better off without it. 1.When did the writer decide to sell all of the sports gadgets? 2.What is another positive thing about not using running gadgets any more? 3.What does the writer learn from the example of running? 4.What do you think of sports gadgets? Why do you think so? (give at least 2 reasons) Would you like to have an electric (有电的) car? Do you know this kind of quiet and clean cars run on electricity? In the future, more and more people will have cars, so the cars will be in great need. But the oil won’t keep up with the number of cars on the road. So the price of oil will go up. Electric cars aren’t perfect just yet. We need spend eight hours charging (充电) a car for only 100 miles of driving. How far that car travels depends on the weather and traffic. Price is a problem, too. Electric cars cost much more than oil cars. The good news is that electric car technology is getting better. As it does, the prices of this kind of cars are going down.To charge the car, the Department of Energy is paying for at least 10, 000 charging stations around the country. And it will cost people about three dollars for each charge. Now car makers are looking for other ways to make the car cheaper. With the widespread use of electric cars, won't we have a clean and nice environment in the future? 1.Why will the price of oil go up in the future? 2.How long can it take to charge a car for only 100 miles of driving? 3.How much should people pay for each charge? 4.If more people use electric cars, what will the world be like in the future? 5.Do you like electric cars or oil cars? Why? “You!” said the Caterpillar coldly, “Who are you?” Alice replied, rather shyly, “I—I hardly know, sir, just at present—at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I have been changed several times since then.” She felt cross and decided to leave. “Come back!” the Caterpillar called. “I’ve something important to say!” This sounded promising, so Alice turned back. “Keep your temper,” said the Caterpillar. “Is that all?” asked Alice, trying not to be angry. “No,” said the Caterpillar. It puffed away without speaking. At last it took the hookah out of its mouth and said, “So you think you’re changed, do you? How tall do you want to be?” “A little taller, please.” said Alice. “Three inches is such a wretched height.” In silence, the Caterpillar smoked its hookah. Then it got down off the mushroom, saying, “One side will make you grow taller, and the other will make you grow shorter.” “One side of what?” thought Alice to herself. “Of the mushroom.” said the Caterpillar, as if she had asked it aloud. Alice looked at the round mushroom carefully. “No sides at all!” she said to herself. At last she broke off a piece from each side. She ate a little bit of the piece in her left hand nervously. 1. How did Alice feel when the Caterpillar told her to keep her temper? _________________________________________________________ 2. How tall did Alice want to be? _________________________________________________________ 3. What could the mushroom do to people? _________________________________________________________ 4. Did the mushroom have two sides? _________________________________________________________ 5. Why did Alice feel nervous when eating the mushroom? _________________________________________________________ Everyone needs friends, Friends bring us happiness and hope. Daisy looks like your grandmother: She loves knitting and talking about her family, and has a cat named Fluffy. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll find that it was created to answer scam calls and keep scammers busy. Here’s how Daisy works. If a phone scammer happens to call one of the special numbers set up by the company, an AI chatbot that sounds like a real grandma answers the phone. O2 says it trained this AI chatbot on several AI technologies and several AI models. With the development of the call, the AI listens and turns their voice into text. Then the AI searches its large database (数据库) to find an answer, and changes that text answer into a speech for Daisy to reply. All this happens in seconds. Unluckily for scammers, while Daisy might sound easy to cheat, Daisy isn’t an easy target. Daisy is so lifelike that she has successfully talked with lots of scammers for 40 minutes at a time. During the scam calls, she might tell stories about her grandkids or hobbies, or give out wrong banking information. Either way, she’s keeping the scammers on the line so that they have less time to cheat real people. And that’s the whole point—Daisy can’t stop scammers, but she can slow them down. 1.Who is Daisy? 2.Why was Daisy created? 3.How does the AI find the answer to scam calls? 4.Is Daisy successful? Why or why not? 5.What other ways do you know to stay safe from scams? In recent years, more and more elderly people in China have been building lasting friendships, which bring them joy and support in their later lives. Ms. Wang, 72 years old, lives in Beijing. She made friends with three other women—Ms. Li, Ms. Zhang, and Ms. Zhao—at a community garden five years ago. Every morning, they meet at the garden to do tai chi (太极) together. After that, they sit on a bench and chat about their daily lives—their children, their grandchildren, or interesting things they saw on TV. “Before I met them, I felt very lonely,” Ms. Wang said. “My children work in other cities, so I live alone. But now, I look forward to every morning because I know I will see my friends.” These four friends also help each other in many ways. Last year, Ms. Li fell and hurt her leg. Ms. Wang, Ms. Zhang, and Ms. Zhao took turns visiting her and bringing her meals. They also helped her clean her house and take care of her plants. “They are like my family,” Ms. Li said. “I don’t know what I would have done without them.” Another group of elderly friends in Shanghai has a different way of staying connected. They formed a “book club” three years ago. Every Saturday afternoon, they meet at a community center to read and discuss books. Most of the books they read are about Chinese history or traditional culture. “Reading together helps us learn new things, and discussing the books brings us closer,” said Mr. Chen, 78 years old. “We also share our own stories and experiences while talking about the books. It’s very interesting.” These friendships are not just fun—they also have many health benefits. Studies show that elderly people with strong friendships are less likely to feel lonely or depressed (抑郁的). They also have better physical health, because they are more active and take better care of themselves when they have friends to support them. Many communities in China are now encouraging elderly people to make friends. They organize activities like tai chi classes, book clubs, and craft (手工) workshops. These activities give elderly people a chance to meet others and build new friendships. “We want to help elderly people live happy and healthy lives,” said a community worker in Guangzhou. “Friendship is an important part of that.” 1.Where did Ms. Wang meet her three friends? 2.When was the “book club” in Shanghai formed? 3.Why do Mr. Chen and his friends read and discuss books at the community center? 4.How can the elderly get more friends? 5.What benefits do elderly people get from having strong friendships? “Nobody” is a great Chinese 2D animated (动画) film. It is very popular this summer. Shanghai Animation Film Studio made it. It came out (上映) on August 2, 2025. By August 11, it made 574 million yuan. It broke the record (打破纪录) of Chinese 2D animated films. It got 8.6 points on Douban, winning the hearts of both young and old people. The film tells a fun and warm story. In the movie, there is a little pig monster in Langlang Mountain. He made the king angry by mistake. So he had to leave with his friend, a toad monster. They joined another two little monsters, a weasel and a gorilla. Then they started a journey to the west. On their long way, they had many problems. But they never gave up. They always helped each other to solve (解决) the problems. They did lots of good things, like helping villagers and fighting bad men. Why is the movie so popular? One of the main reasons is its beautiful ink-painting style. Each picture has many ink layers (墨层). The whole film looks like a moving Chinese ink-painting. It shows us a new way to see the classic story Journey to the West. “Nobody” is more than a movie. It brings happiness and teaches us that everyone can be a hero. It also shows us the power of courage (勇气) and dreams. If you like stories with fun and exciting trips, this is a movie you won’t want to miss. 1.When did the movie come out? 2.Did the movie get popular only among kids? 3.What did the pig monster and his friends do to solve problems on their way? 4.Why is the movie so popular? 5.What can you learn from the story? Curiosity is like a spark that lights up our desire to explore the unknown. In today’s fast-changing world, it’s more important than ever. From the latest AI technologies to space exploration, human curiosity drives innovation and progress. Take Elon Musk, for example. His curiosity about sustainable energy led to the creation of Tesla and SpaceX. He once said, “I want to understand why things are the way they are.” This mindset pushed him to revolutionize electric cars and rocket science. Similarly, young students around the world are using their curiosity to solve real-world problems. A 15-year-old girl in India invented a low-cost water purifier after seeing her community struggle with clean water. Her curiosity turned into a solution that now helps thousands. But curiosity isn’t just for scientists. It’s about asking questions and seeking answers. When you wonder how a smartphone works or why leaves change color, you’re using curiosity. Schools are now encouraging students to explore through projects like coding robots or growing plants. These activities help develop critical thinking and creativity. However, curiosity needs courage. Sometimes, the answers aren’t easy. Thomas Edison failed thousands of times before inventing the light bulb. He saw failure as a step forward, not a stop. This attitude is key: never stop wondering, even when things get tough. As we face challenges like climate change, curiosity will guide us to new solutions. Whether it’s finding renewable energy or curing diseases, the next big idea might start with a simple question. So keep asking, “Why?” and let your curiosity lead the way. The future belongs to those who dare to wonder. 1.What problem did the 15-year-old girl in India solve, and how? 2.How do schools encourage students to explore according to the passage? 3.How did Thomas Edison view failure? 4.What challenges can curiosity help us face according to the passage? 5.What is the author’s advice about curiosity in the passage? Drones are flying robots that can be controlled remotely or by computers. In the past, they were expensive and mainly used by the military (军事). But now, cheaper drones are helping people in many fields, like rescue work and farming. A French company created a drone called “Agridrone” to help farmers. It uses special sensors (感应器) to examine crops. By flying over fields, the drone takes pictures that show which areas need fertilizer (肥料). This helps farmers save money and reduce pollution. Jean-Baptiste Bruggeman is a farmer who uses Agridrone. He says the drone flies over his crops at different times of the year. The pictures tell him exactly where and how much fertilizer to use. Before drones, farmers spread fertilizer everywhere, wasting money and harming the environment. Drones also save time. They can check three hectares of land in one minute. Romain Faroux, the creator of Agridrone, says this technology is like a smartphone with wings. It uses sunlight reflections to analyze (分析) crop health. Thanks to cheaper drones, more people are using them. They’re not just for the military anymore. Drones are becoming a powerful tool to solve real-world problems, especially in farming. 1.What is a drone? 2.What technology does the Agridrone use to analyze crops? 3.How do drones help farmers save money? 4.How much time can drones save when examining crops? 5.Who created the Agridrone and why? The Power of Teamwork in Sports Sports are a great way to learn about teamwork. Whether it’s a basketball game, a soccer match, or a relay race, working together as a team is essential for success. Take basketball, for example. A basketball team has five players on the court. Each player has a different role: the point guard controls the ball and sets up plays, the shooting guard scores points, the small forward is versatile and can do many things, the power forward rebounds and defends, and the center is tall and blocks shots. If each player only thinks about their own performance, the team will not do well. But if they pass the ball to each other, help defend, and work together, they have a better chance of winning. In a relay race, teamwork is even more important. Each runner has to pass a baton to the next runner. If the pass is not smooth, the team might lose the race. So, the runners practice passing the baton again and again until they can do it perfectly. They also support each other, cheering each other on during the race. Soccer is another sport where teamwork is key. The players have to communicate with each other on the field, telling each other where the opponents are and where to pass the ball. They have to trust each other, knowing that their teammates will be there to help. A single player can’t win a soccer game alone; it takes the whole team working together.
