1.I’d appreciate ________ if you could let me know in advance whether or not you will come. A.it     B.you C.one D.this 【答案】A 【详解】考查it用法。 故选A。 We shall appreciate hearing from you again. I appreciate that you have come here so early. 正:I appreciate your kindness. I appreciate you for your kindness. 正:He thanked her for her kindness. 误:He thanked her kindness. 3)后接if或when从句时习惯上要先接it。 I would appreciate it very much if you would help me with it. We really appreciate it when she offered to help. 如:I deeply appreciateyour kindness. He highly appreciated their help. We much appreciate your invitation.正:We appreciate your invitation very much. 误:We appreciate your invitation much. 2.The factory used 65 percent of the raw materials, the rest of which _______ saved for other purpose. The study was carried out by two researchers, Robert Kraut and his team. They found that even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet felt more lonely than those who spent little time on it. The researchers thought that it might be because people who are already lonely may be more likely to use the Internet to find friends. But they also found that people who spent a lot of time chatting online felt lonelier than those who spent less time. Another reason might be that when people use the Internet, they spend less time with their real-life friends. As a result, their relationships with their real-life friends may become weaker. However, it doesn’t mean that the Internet is bad. We can use it to communicate with our friends and family, get information, and have fun. But we should also make sure to spend enough time with our real-life friends. 41.What did Robert Kraut and his team study? A.How to make friends on the Internet. B.The influence of Internet use on loneliness. C.Why people like using the Internet. D.How to use the Internet properly. 42.What did they find? A.People who use the Internet are all lonely. B.The more time people spend on the Internet, the lonelier they feel. C.People who never use the Internet feel the loneliest. D.People who spend little time on the Internet feel the loneliest. 43.Why might people feel lonelier when using the Internet? A.Because they have no real-life friends. B.Because they don’t know how to use the Internet properly. C.Because they spend less time with real-life friends. D.Because they only chat with strangers online. 44.What does the passage suggest? A.We should stop using the Internet. B.We should only use the Internet to get information. C.We should spend more time with real-life friends. D.We should make as many online friends as possible. 45.What is the main idea of the passage? A.The Internet is bad for our mental health. B.The Internet can help us make friends. As a result, their relationships with their real-life friends may become weaker.(另一个原因可能是,当人们使用互联网时,他们花更少的时间与现实生活中的朋友在一起。 根据最后一段中“But we should also make sure to spend enough time with our real-life friends.(但我们也应该确保花足够的时间和现实生活中的朋友在一起)”可知,文章建议我们花更多时间和现实中的朋友在一起。故选C。 45. C。 C Earth’s biggest problem, according to Douglas Adams, is quite simple: the species of clever ape (猿) that thinks it runs the joint (有控制权,有主导地位) is mostly unhappy most of the time. Computer scientist Cal Newport now adds email to the list of life’s troubles. In his book A World Without Email, he argues this once-brilliant invention has made us suffer. Newport says we’ve become slaves to email trapped in a “hyperactive hive mind” — the reality in which everyone, everywhere, can communicate with everyone else with ease. Studies have shown how dominant email has become in ordinary office life. The average knowledge worker sends and receives 126 emails daily, which ruins focus, making them less productive and more irritable (易怒的). All of this might be bearable but for one problem: the mismatch between modern electronic messaging and our own information-processing capacity. Multitasking is a myth. We can’t think clearly while dealing with an overflowing inbox We’re born to prefer real-time conversations, where everyone gets updates together. Back in small tribes (部落), we needed daily chats to feel connected. Now, in a digital world, that ancient urge makes us anxious if we don’t reply to every email instantly. Despite his book’s title, Newport isn’t against all electronic messaging. What drives him to desperation is how we use it. With office workers nodding in hearty agreement, Newport offers some solutions. A German company invented the No Email Day. Productivity went up, even though it shortened the work time. The goal was for everyone to approach their work more deliberately without rushing. Some companies use an application called Trello to allow workers to access the necessary data and decide when to jump in and get things done. Handling email when it’s out of control is like being pecked (啄) by a flock of geese. But changing this won’t be easy. Our need for focused thinking conflicts with the Dopamine Economy — something designed to keep us unable to resist constant messages. Still, Newport thinks regaining control of our time might be the key to being happier at work. 46.What is a consequence of handling numerous emails daily? A.A drop in work efficiency. B.A lack of social connections. C.A change in office culture. D.A rise in communication skills. 47.What’s the meaning of “hyperactive hive mind” in paragraph 2? A.A busy work state. B.A peaceful team spirit. C.A creative thinking way D.A healthy life habit 48.What causes our anxiety about unreplied emails according to paragraph 3? A.The lack of real-time conversations. B.The myth of modern office multitasking. C.The mismatch with our ancient urges. D.The overflow of daily digital information. 49.What is the purpose of introducing the No Email Day? A.To shorten the daily work time. B.To help workers work more deliberately. C.To test a new digital application. D.To stop all electronic messaging completely. 50.What is the best title for the text? A.The Invention of No Email Day B.How to Be Happy at Work C.The Rise of the Dopamine Economy D.Escaping the Trap of Email Overload 【答案】 根据第二段中的“The average knowledge worker sends and receives 126 emails daily, which ruins focus, making them less productive and more irritable (易怒的). 故选A项。 47. 根据第二段中的“Newport says we’ve become slaves to email trapped in a “hyperactive hive mind” — the reality in which everyone, everywhere, can communicate with everyone else with ease.(纽波特说,我们已经成为电子邮件的奴隶,被困在“hyperactive hive mind”之中——这是一种随时随地每个人都能轻松与他人进行沟通的现实状态。)” 根据第三段中的“Now, in a digital world, that ancient urge makes us anxious if we don’t reply to every email instantly.(如今在数字世界里,这种古老的本能欲望,让我们若没有立刻回复每一封邮件就会感到焦虑。)” 根据第四段中的“The goal was for everyone to approach their work more deliberately without rushing.(设立无邮件日的目的,是让每个人更从容沉稳地处理工作,不必匆忙慌乱。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“In his book A World Without Email, he argues this once-brilliant invention has made us suffer.(在《没有邮件的世界》一书中,他认为这项曾经伟大的发明如今让人们备受困扰。)” D Researchers in the psychology department at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) have discovered a major difference in the way men and women respond to stress. This difference may explain why men are more likely to suffer from stress-related disorders. Until now, psychological research has maintained that both men and women have the same “fight-or-flight” reaction to stress. In other words, individuals either react with aggressive behavior, such as verbal or physical conflict (“fight”), or they react by withdrawing from the stressful situation (“flight”). However, the UCLA research team found that men and women have quite different biological and behavioral responses to stress. While men often react to stress in the fight-or-flight response, women often have another kind of reaction which could be called “tend and befriend”. That is, they often react to stressful conditions by protecting and nurturing their young (“tend”), and by looking for social contact and support from others — especially other females (“befriend”). Scientists have known that in the fight-or-flight reaction to stress, an important role is played by certain hormones (激素) released by the body. The UCLA research team suggests that the female tend-or-befriend response is also based on a hormone. This hormone, called oxytocin, has been studied in the context of childbirth, but now it is being studied for its role in the response of both men and women to stress. The principal investigator, Dr. Shelley E. Taylor, explained that “animals and people with high levels of oxytocin are calmer, more relaxed, more social, and less anxious”. While men also secrete (分泌) oxytocin, its effects are reduced by male hormones. In terms of everyday behavior, the UCLA study found that women are far more likely than men to seek social contact when they are feeling stressed. They may phone relatives or friends, or ask directions if they are lost. The study also showed how fathers and mothers responded differently when they came home to their family after a stressful day at work. The typical father wanted to be left alone to enjoy some peace and quiet. For a typical mother, coping with a bad day at work meant focusing her attention on her children and their needs. The differences in responding to stress may explain the fact that women have lower frequency of stress-related disorders such as high blood pressure or aggressive behavior. The tend-and-befriend regulatory (调节的) system may protect women against stress, and this may explain why women on average live longer than men. 51.The UCLA study shows that in response to stress, men are more likely than women to ______. A.turn to friends for help B.solve a conflict calmly C.find an escape from reality D.seek comfort from children 52.Which of the following is true about oxytocin according to the passage? A.Men have the same level of oxytocin as women do. B.Oxytocin used to be studied in both men and women. C.Both animals and people have high levels of oxytocin. D.Oxytocin has more of an effect on women than on men. 53.What can be learned from the passage? A.Male hormones can help build up the body's resistance to stress. B.In a family a mother cares more about children than a father does. C.Biological differences lead to different behavioral responses to stress. D.The UCLA study was designed to confirm previous research findings. 54.The underlined words in the Paragraph 5 may mean ______. A.managing B.enduring C.claiming D.ignoring 55.Which of the following might be the best title of the passage? A.How men and women get over stress B.How men and women suffer from stress C.How researchers overcome stress problems D.How researchers handle stress-related disorders 【答案】 根据第二段“However, the UCLA research team found that men and women have quite different biological and behavioral responses to stress. While men often react to stress in the fight-or-flight response, women often have another kind of reaction which could be called “tend and befriend”. 根据第三段“While men also secrete (分泌) oxytocin, its effects are reduced by male hormones. 根据第二段“However, the UCLA research team found that men and women have quite different biological and behavioral responses to stress. 以及第三段“Scientists have known that in the fight-or-flight reaction to stress, an important role is played by certain hormones (激素) released by the body.(科学家们已经知道,在对压力的战斗或逃跑反应中,身体释放的某些激素起着重要作用)”可知,生理差异导致了不同的压力行为反应。 54. 根据第五段“The typical father wanted to be left alone to enjoy some peace and quiet. For a typical mother, coping with a bad day at work meant focusing her attention on her children and their needs. 根据第一段“Researchers in the psychology department at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) have discovered a major difference in the way men and women respond to stress.(加州大学洛杉矶分校心理学系的研究人员发现,男性和女性对压力的反应方式存在重大差异)”以及文章内容可知,全文围绕男女面对压力的不同反应方式、生理原因以及带来的影响展开,核心是男女如何应对压力,所以“男女如何克服压力”适合作为文章标题。 Samantha, my childhood playmate living in Florida, had to deal with some complex problems in her life. Her mother recognized the difficulty she was having and understood that things would be much better if I could come and visit and spend a couple of days helping her sort things out. So her mother purchased the tickets for me to fly down and see her. I flew out from Boston in a thunderstorm and it was rainy and thundering most of the way to Charlotte, North Carolina. When I arrived in Charlotte, the flight had been delayed so much that there were no additional flights going out for the rest of the night. I became very grieved and burst into tears. It only took a minute or two before I felt an arm being put around my shoulders from behind. It was a woman that I had flown into Charlotte on the same flight with and she said, “Don’t worry, young girl. You’re with us now.” I cried harder when she said that, because I immediately felt less alone. Deb and Mark were heading to Orlando with their two teenage daughters. We all sat down and started chatting. They treated me immediately as though I was a family member. During the night, I curled up (蜷作一团) with my bag and slept while this family watched over me. In the morning, we were informed that there was a flight to Orlando. That flight had four seats, enough for Deb, Mark, and their daughters. But Deb and Mark declared that they would not be taking that flight to Orlando because I was part of their family for the day, and they weren’t going to leave part of their family behind. We flew into Tampa, on the west coast of Florida, and Deb and Mark rented a car and drove to Orlando. My friend’s mother was waiting for me in Orlando when we arrived. When I left the family, there were tears, a lot of hugs, and promises to stay in touch. This family was an inspiration to me, and they remain so every day. 56.What’s the purpose of the author’s trip?(no more than 10 words) 57.What does the underlined word probably mean in Paragraph 2?(1 word) 58.What made the author feel better that night at the airport?(no more than 10 words) 59.Why did the couple abandon the flight to their destination?(no more than 10 words) 60.What is the most touching personality of this couple? Maria Sibylla Merian Until the 1670s, scientists thought that caterpillars(毛虫) and butterflies were two totally different creatures. Thanks to Maria Sibylla Merian, we know the truth about these winged insects. She began collecting, studying and drawing them when she was young. She was one of the few naturalists of her time who actually studied live insects. It was through her study of caterpillars that she discovered the truth about their life cycles. Lucy Stone If you know a woman who keeps her own family name after marriage, you should know that it's a tradition started by Lucy Stone. She initially changed her name, but decided to change it back a year later. She held the belief that "a wife should no more take her husband's name than he should take hers". She became the first American married woman to keep her own family name for her entire life. Both she and her husband also fought the popular idea that husbands had legal control over their wives. Nellie Bly Nellie Bly, a famous journalist, was born in 1864 in Pennsylvania. When a Pittsburgh Dispatch journalist wrote an article saying that working women were unacceptable, Bly wrote an argument that got her a job offer from the newspaper. What made her well-known was that she spent some time living in a mental institution to expose the conditions the patients faced. In 1889, she set out to travel around the world. And she made it. Alice Coachman Davis Alice Coachman Davis was the first African-American woman to win an Olympic gold medal. She grew up in Georgia, where females were not allowed to join sports teams. B.They were both selfless. C.They both experienced prejudice. D.They were both fond of adventures. B A study shows that the more people use the Internet, the more they may feel lonely. C Earth’s biggest problem, according to Douglas Adams, is quite simple: the species of clever ape (猿) that thinks it runs the joint (有控制权,有主导地位) is mostly unhappy most of the time. A.The Invention of No Email Day B.How to Be Happy at Work C.The Rise of the Dopamine Economy D.Escaping the Trap of Email Overload D Researchers in the psychology department at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) have discovered a major difference in the way men and women respond to stress.
