3. What have you learnt from this story?
My favourite character is Mary. Because she changes from a spoiled and selfish girl to a kind and happy one because of the garden and her friends.
Because the garden is hidden and locked. It’s the key part of the story—all the characters change because of it.
I’ve learnt that friendship, fresh air, and having hope can make people feel better. It’s good to go outside and not always be alone.

What do you know about this book?

Text analysis
□ My favourite book is The Old Man and the Sea. It was written in 1952 by the American writer Ernest Hemingway.
□ The book became popular very quickly. In 1953, it won the Pulitzer Prize.
□ The main character is a fisherman who hasn’t caught anything for months. One day he catches a huge fish, but he has to fight for days to kill it. He finally succeeds, but he can’t pull the fish onto his boat. When the fisherman is on his way back, sharks eat the fish, leaving nothing but bones.
□ This book has taught me not to give up or doubt myself. I’m inspired by how hard the fisherman fights, even though he loses the fish in the end. As Hemingway said, “Man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”
□ Even though I’ve already read the book three times, I’m not tired of it yet. If you’ve never read Ernest Hemingway, I recommend this book.

A Book Report on Charlotte's Web
I recently read Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, a famous American writer. It is a classic loved by both kids and adults for its warm story.
The main characters are Wilbur, a little pig, and Charlotte, a spider. Wilbur faces being slaughtered, but Charlotte saves him. They become good friends, and Charlotte even sacrifices her life to help Wilbur.
I was deeply moved by their friendship. The story teaches me that true friends help each other selflessly. I highly recommend it to everyone — it's a story full of love and courage.

[Nils, a young Swedish boy, is standing next to a desk. His parents are by the door, ready to leave.]
Mother: Nils, we’re going out. Make sure you study, and don’t be mean to the farm animals.
Nils: I haven’t been mean to the animals in ages.
