The wild animals weren’t there in the morning, so the boy, Xury, went to look for some water. He came back with water and a small animal for us to eat.
While he was cooking our dinner, I started to think about the long journey in front of us. I know that we needed to travel south towards the Cape Verde islands. They weren’t far from the coast.
We sailed for many days. Once we saw some people on the shore. They didn’t have any guns (枪), but I was too afraid to leave the boat and talk to them. I made a sign to show them that we were hungry and thirsty. They understood and left some water and food for us on the beach. I was sorry that I didn’t have anything to give them.
But very soon I had a chance to thank them. While we were preparing to leave, two large leopards ran out of the trees and into the water. I quickly loaded my gun and shot (射击) one of them. We continued sailing south along the coast. We saw a lot of wild animals, but we didn’t see anymore people. Finally one morning Xury shouted excitedly, “A sail, master!”
It was a Portuguese ship, but it was very far away. It couldn’t see us. Then I remembered my gun. It made a lot of smoke when fired it. I loaded it and… Bang! Xury and I watched and waited.
After several minutes the ship slowly started to turn around and come towards us. The sailors pulled us on board. They only spoke Portuguese, but luckily, there was a man from Scotland on the ship. With his help, I found that we were going to Brazil.

The Monteverde Conservation League (MCL) often holds rainforest field trips. There, children get to know about the importance of the rainforest and the serious situation of it. One day, the kids happened to know that the rainforest land could be bought through MCL, and they took action immediately.
They wrote plays and songs about rainforests. They made books and paintings about rainforests as well. They held the charity sale (义卖) to sell their works of art. By the end of the trip, they had raised $240 to buy about 0.06km² of rainforest.
A local TV program invited the children to sing their songs and share their experiences. A newspaper reported it on the Internet. To their surprise, many people were interested. More children from different schools joined in the activity. The Swedish government even gave $80,000 for landing. This movement grew quickly, going outside of Sweden and becoming a worldwide activity. At last, kids from 44 countries helped raise $2 million.

Now, with the encouraging policies (政策) from the government, the development of tourism, and the efforts of the people all over the world, the rainforests are being protected and also offering livelihoods (生计) for local families. Costa Rica has become a worldwide model for saving the rainforest.

Recycling is one of the most important things we can do to protect the environment. It helps reduce waste, save energy, and conserve natural resources. However, many people still don’t recycle as much as they should, and there are many common myths about recycling that prevent people from doing it.
One common myth is that recycling is too expensive. However, studies have shown that recycling is actually cheaper than sending waste to landfills. Recycling also creates jobs in the recycling industry, which helps the economy. Another myth is that it’s not worth it because most of the recycled material ends up in landfills anyway. However, this is not true. Most recycled materials are actually reused to make new products, such as paper, plastic, and metal.
Another myth is that you have to sort your recycling perfectly. While it’s important to sort your recycling correctly, most recycling centers have machines that can sort the materials. You just need to make sure that you don’t put any non-recyclable items in the recycling bin, such as food waste, plastic bags, or broken glass.
Many people also think that only certain materials can be recycled, such as paper, plastic, and metal. However, there are many other materials that can be recycled, such as glass, cardboard, batteries, and electronics. Some communities even have programs to recycle things like clothes and furniture.
Recycling is not just good for the environment—it’s also good for our health. By reducing waste, we reduce the amount of pollution in the air and water, which helps prevent diseases. Recycling also helps reduce the need for new landfills, which can be harmful to the environment and human health.
If you want to start recycling more, there are many simple things you can do. First, find out what your local recycling program accepts. Second, set up a recycling bin in your home and make it easy to use. Third, teach your family and friends about the importance of recycling. Finally, look for products that are made from recycled materials.
By recycling more, we can all do our part to protect the environment and create a better future for ourselves and for future generations.
41.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The importance of recycling and common myths. B.How to sort recycling correctly.
C.The cost of recycling. D.The history of recycling.
42.Which of the following is a common myth about recycling?
A.Recycling is cheaper than landfills. B.Most recycled material is reused.
C.Recycling is too expensive. D.Many materials can be recycled.
43.What happens if you put non-recyclable items in the recycling bin?
A.It helps the recycling process. B.It can damage the recycling machines.
C.It makes the recycling process faster. D.It doesn’t affect the recycling process.
44.Which of the following can be recycled?
A.Food waste. B.Plastic bags. C.Batteries. D.Broken glass.
45.What is the writer’s advice for people who want to recycle more?
A.Only recycle paper and plastic. B.Find out what the local program accepts.
C.Sort recycling perfectly. D.Avoid buying recycled products.

Good manners are very important in every culture. However, what is considered polite in one country can be rude in another. When you travel or meet foreign friends, it is necessary to learn about local customs so that you do not embarrass yourself. 46
In China, it is traditional to pick up your bowl of rice when eating. You should never stick your chopsticks upright in the rice, as this reminds people of incense burned for the dead. 47 If you don't know how to use them correctly, just watch others and follow their lead.
48 In many Western countries, especially in France and Italy, bread is eaten with the meal but usually without butter. It is often placed directly on the tablecloth rather than on a small plate. Furthermore, making noise while eating soup is generally considered impolite in the West, which is quite different from some Asian cultures where slurping shows enjoyment.
Mobile phones have also changed our dining habits. 49 Even if you are waiting for an important call, try to keep your phone silent and check it only when you are away from the table. This shows respect to the people who are dining with you.
50 Whether you are in London, Beijing, or Tokyo, smiling and saying "please" and "thank you" will always make you welcome. Being polite costs nothing but makes everything easier and more pleasant.A. Additionally, you should pass dishes with both hands to show respect.
B. Let’s take the example of using chopsticks and bread to see the differences.
C. Technology should never get in the way of real conversations between people.
D. Of course, the basic rule of being kind and respectful is universal everywhere.
E. Different countries have different ways of greeting each other, such as kissing or bowing.
F. For example, in some Middle Eastern countries, it is rude to eat with your left hand.

Costa Rica, a small country in Central America, is famous worldwide for its "Green Revolution." Unlike many places that cut down forests for farming, Costa Rica decided to protect its natural resources nearly 30 years ago. The government realized that biodiversity was more valuable than short-term profit.
Today, about 25% of the country’s land is protected as national parks or reserves. This attracts millions of tourists every year who come to see the amazing wildlife, such as colorful birds and lazy sloths. To keep the environment clean, the government has banned single-use plastics in many areas. Local schools teach children how to compost food waste, turning it into fertilizer for school gardens.
Moreover, Costa Rica runs almost entirely on renewable energy. For weeks at a time, the country uses no fossil fuels at all, relying only on hydro-power (water), wind, and volcanoes for electricity. Citizens are proud of their "Pura Vida" lifestyle, which means living simply and respecting nature. Although challenges remain, Costa Rica proves that economic development and environmental protection can go hand in hand.

Today I will talk about something about Father's Day. People think we may feel safe with our father, so father is very important in a family. We know people celebrated the first Father's Day in the United States. But in 1972, people all over the world began to celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday of June.
On this special day, many children must be thinking of a present to their father. For example, on this year's Father's Day,my friend Tommy bought his father a watch. Some of my classmates gave some flowers or a card to their father. Some prepared a cup of tea or made breakfast for their father. And I made a cake for my father. He felt so happy.
To show our love, I think the most important thing is to spend more time with our father. Do you agree with me?
