Don’t believe me? Here are four people who lived through failure before going on to become names known around the world. Walt Disney Disney began his career by being fired by a newspaper for not being creative enough. Later, his Mickey Mouse cartoons were rejected because they were considered to be “too scary for women”. Also, The Three Little Pigs was turned down because it only had four characters. Thankfully, we have the Disney Company today because Disney chose not to listen to any of his critics and press forward towards his dreams. Stephen King King is a best-selling writer whose work has been made into several motion pictures. However, his first work was rejected 30 times, which led to King throwing it in the trash. Thankfully, his wife persuaded him to keep working at it, and—from that poor start—Carrie was born. Milton Hershey The man who blessed us with the sweet milk chocolate treat we all love wasn’t a hit the first time around. He once worked for a local candy factory. But when he went out on his own, he failed miserably. Then he returned to the family farm and perfected the art of making delicious milk chocolate candy, which we enjoy today. Theodor Geisel This author struggled to write a novel that publishing companies would call “pure rubbish” several times — 27 to be exact. The man just wouldn’t quit, though. One fateful night, he ran into an old friend who was a children’s literature editor. The friend agreed to publish Geisel’s work. Better known today as Dr. Seuss, Geisel was never again called a failure after his first book became a hit. 1. Why is the Disney Company known to us nowadays? A. Disney was rejected many times. B. Disney improved his works later. C. Disney got fired and began his career. D. Disney ignored critics and fought for his dreams. 2. What is Milton Hershey famous for today? A. His big family farm. B. His successful art career. C. His delicious milk chocolate candy. D. His experience in making milk chocolate. 3. What do the people mentioned have in common? A. They have a gift for making money. B. They suffered several defeats on the path to success. C. They are creative and highly educated. D. They were successful at the very start. B I knew I would not see an actual person named Ellie at Ellie’s Eatery because, like most new restaurants these days, Ellie’s is a robot-run restaurant. When I walked in, a cute little robot manager appeared, looking rather like a toaster with bright blue eyes. It showed me to a nice table in the back. A menu screen slid up from the table and displayed pictures of available dishes. I tapped my choices and clicked OK, and the screen slid back down gently. I watched as full plates rode along the conveyor belts (传送带) that ran beside each aisle (过道) of tables. In just a few minutes, my first dish stopped at my table, and I took it from the belt. Later, I placed my empty plate back on the conveyor belt, and it was carried away into the kitchen to be cleaned automatically. I watched the little toaster-like robot showing customers to tables while I ate my main course. The food was tasty, but I was starting to feel annoyed. Dealing with robots always made me feel cold and disconnected from real life. Soon, I found myself longing to talk to someone real, even if it was just a few simple daily greetings. So when my dessert arrived, I took action. I dropped my plate on the floor with a loud crash. I hoped that with the manager robot’s red warning lights flashing, a real human worker would come to deal with the accident. But instead, two robots quickly appeared. A robotic cleaner rushed over and cleaned up the broken pieces into a robotic trash bin. They finished the work quietly and moved back into the kitchen soon. My plan to get a little real human interaction at Ellie’s bakery ended in failure. I hope the robot-bakery trend ends soon. I sincerely look forward to being served by real people while dining out. 4. What happened right after the author finished the first dish? A. Two robots cleaned up the dish. B. The manager robot’s eyes blinked red. C. The robot manager showed the main course. D. The empty plate was sent back to the kitchen by the belt. 5. Why did the author break a plate? A. To try to get human service. B. To attract attention from the robots. C. To show that the food did not taste good. D. To put an end to the robo-restaurant trend. 6. How did the author feel at the end of the story? A. Hopeful. B. Guilty. C. Shocked. D. Disappointed. 7. Where is the text most likely from? A. Science fiction. B. Children’s literature. C. A Food magazine. D. A science report. C Every time AI drafts an e-mail or generates an image, the planet bears extra environmental costs. Creating two AI-generated images consumes almost as much energy as fully charging a smartphone. By 2027, the global AI industry could use as much electricity annually as the whole of the Netherlands. Meanwhile, a new study points out another hidden risk: general AI applications alone could add 1.2 to 5 million tons of harmful electronic waste worldwide by 2030. Such massive waste will add to the tens of millions of tons of electronic waste that the world abandons every year. Cell phones, computers and other digital products often contain mercury (汞) lead (铅) and other poisonous chemical substances. When improperly disposed of, these heavy metals can seriously pollute air, water and farmland soil. In 2022, about 78% of the world’s e-waste ended up in landfills or unofficial recycling sites, where workers risk their health to recycle and extract rare metals from discarded electronics. The rapid boom of the AI industry has greatly increased demand for high-performance data storage devices and core electronic components. Once new upgraded versions are launched, the old ones are usually directly discarded and replaced. To accurately calculate the e-waste produced by the AI industry, researchers comprehensively studied hardware service life, daily energy consumption and the annual growth rate of the global AI industry. Their final prediction is a reasonable estimate, which may vary with economic and technological factors. This study’s greatest practical value lies in its in-depth analysis of AI’s wide negative impacts on the environment, says Shaochi Ren, a researcher at the University of California, Riverside. “We might expect AI companies to slow down their blind expansion,” he suggests seriously. Few countries have clear laws to force standardized disposal of e-waste. Even places with relevant rules often fail to carry out the laws strictly in practice. Twenty-five U.S. states have independent e-waste management policies, yet there is no unified federal law forcing major electronics firms to carry out classified recycling. Thankfully, several leading tech companies say they are taking practical action on their own. Microsoft and Google have promised to reach net zero waste and net zero emissions respectively by 2030. They have many feasible ways to control rising e-waste. For example, server service life can be prolonged through regular professional maintenance and system updates, or outdated devices can be reassigned to low-intensity daily office tasks. Researchers agree that these targeted measures are vital to reducing e-waste pollution and protecting the global ecosystem. 8. What can be inferred from Paragraph 1? A. The Netherlands consumes too much electricity. B. The disadvantages of AI outweigh the advantages. C. AI’s energy-related issues largely result from image-making. D. The environmental footprint of AI is alarmingly extensive. 9. What is Shaochi Ren’s attitude toward the rapid growth of AI companies? A. Indifferent. B. Cautious. C. Positive. D. Ambiguous. 10. What is the core key to reducing AI-related e-waste? A. Adjusting AI application frequency in daily work. B. Prioritizing waste household smartphone recycling. C. Banning the overuse of intelligent AI completely. D. Adopting effective device-lifespan-extending measures. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. AI May Worsen the Global E-waste Crisis. B. E-waste Calls for Standardized Proper Use of AI. C. E-waste Problems Mostly Blamed on Modern AI Technology. D. AI Development and E-waste Pollution Always Go Hand in Hand. D The development of clinical AI has boomed, with researchers developing a wide range of tools — from algorithms that help interpret medical scans to systems that assist in medical diagnoses. While experts acknowledge that the technology could bring huge benefits to healthcare, they also voice widespread concerns: insufficient testing of AI tool effectiveness, as well as uncertainty over who should be held responsible if patients suffer negative treatment outcomes. Prof Derek Angus of the University of Pittsburgh said: “There will inevitably be cases where people believe medical mistakes have happened, and they will start looking for someone to blame.” The 2024 Jama Summit on Artificial Intelligence, hosted by The Journal of the American Medical Association, gathered experts including clinicians, tech companies, regulatory bodies, insurers, ethicists, lawyers and economists. Angus served as the lead author of the summit report. The report not only analyzes the features of AI tools and their application fields in healthcare, but also explores major challenges, especially legal risks. Prof Glenn Cohen from Harvard Law School, a co-author of the report, argues that patients may struggle to prove legal liability when problems arise from AI products. It is often difficult for them to access information about the internal workings of AI systems. Besides, they may find it hard to offer a reasonable alternative design or prove that a poor medical result was directly caused by the AI system. Prof Michelle Mello, another report author from Stanford Law School, believes courts are capable of settling such legal disputes. “The barrier is that legal procedures take time, and inconsistent judgments will be unavoidable in the early stage. Such uncertainty will push up costs for all participants in AI innovation and clinical application.” she said. The report also raises concerns over the evaluation standards of clinical AI tools. Many AI tools are not under the supervision of regulators such as the US Food and Drug Administration(FDA). It lists major obstacles to AI assessment: many tools can only be fully evaluated after being put into clinical use, while current assessment methods are costly and complex. “A striking phenomenon found at the summit is that well-evaluated AI tools are rarely adopted clinically, while those widely used in clinics lack adequate assessment.” Angus pointed out. 12. What is the main concern about AI raised in the first paragraph? A. The high cost of testing clinical AI tools. B. Patients’ negative attitude toward AI-related treatment. C. The low accuracy of AI tools in medical diagnoses. D. Problems of inadequate testing and unclear responsibility. 13. What does the underlined word “barrier” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Standards B. Obstacles C. Secrets D. Rewards 14. What can we infer from Angus’s remark in the last paragraph? A. Well-assessed AI tools fail to meet clinical demands. B. Most AI tools are under strict regulatory supervision. C. Clinical application ensures the quality of AI tools. D. Popular AI tools often lack satisfactory evaluation. 15. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. The Current Boom in Clinical AI Development. B. Legal Risks and Responsibility in AI-assisted Healthcare. C. Key Concerns and Challenges Facing Medical AI. D. Effective Ways to Evaluate AI Medical Tools. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Appreciating a poem begins with understanding the context. I was then a senior high school student. After my father’s funeral, the whole family fell into extremely difficult circumstances. As the eldest son, I had no choice but to drop out of school and take a low-paid job at a local factory. Days passed in dull, endless hardship. I dared not ask for more from life, devoting all my efforts to supporting the family and bringing up my two younger brothers. However, the burden was far heavier than I could bear. Exhausted as I was by working day and night, I still could not afford my brothers’ school fees. Worse still, my mother’s poor health required constant care and extra money. Overwhelmed by hardships, I began to consider going back to school, yet the idea sounded totally unrealistic, for I could not afford to lose my only source of income. A thread of hope sparked in those gloomy days suddenly. It was a cold rainy dusk. Overwhelmed by fatigue and frustration, I dragged myself along the wet street, walking aimlessly in the pouring rain. All of a sudden, the heavy rain seemed to stop. Confused, I looked up and found a dark blue umbrella shading me. Then I heard a warm and gentle voice beside me. “Why not keep walking forward instead of standing in the rain?” A middle-aged man with one leg leaning on a pair of crutches said gently. “If you move on bravely, you will get much less wet.” I shook my head in silence, but his words soon struck a chord in my heart. They inspired me deeply. Without my father’s support, could I only be a slave to fate, letting all my youthful dreams fade away? Life is just like a rainy day. When trapped in the rainy days of life, if you hesitate and yield to difficulties, you will be drowned in misfortune. But if you pluck up courage to move forward bravely, you will find hard times will never last as long as you fear. 注意:1.续写词数应为150词左右; 2.请按如下格式作答。 While walking together in the rain, he told me his story. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then, I decided to return to school and earn money to support my family while studying. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2026年春期新纪元云贵发展中心第二次月考 英语(高二) (考试时间120分钟,满分150分) 注意事项: 1. 1.Why did Graham go abroad according to the woman? Li Hua 第二节(满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】范文 While walking together in the rain, he told me his story. He had lost his leg in an accident when he was young, suffering endless pain and despair. However, he refused to give in to his fate. Instead, he struggled to rebuild his life and finally ran a small shop to make a living. Smiling gently, he patted my shoulder and reminded me that hardships never broke a brave person. His optimistic attitude and sincere words greatly warmed my cold heart. I suddenly realized that it was not the hardship but my negative attitude that trapped me. Then, I decided to return to school and earn money to support my family while studying. I arranged my time reasonably, studying hard in school and doing part-time jobs in my spare time. Though exhausted occasionally, I never complained. Gradually, my efforts paid off. I achieved good academic grades and could afford my family’s daily expenses. Whenever I met difficulties, I would remember the man in the rain. It is bravery and perseverance that light up my life and help me walk out of the rainy days. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
