阅读理解(本题共8个小题,每小题2.5分,共20分) A The circadian clock, more commonly known as the body clock, is an internal system that tells our bodies when it's time to go to sleep and when it's time to wake up.Scientists track this clock by measuring the amount of melatonin (褪黑激素) circulating in a person's blood at any given time. In a healthy sleeper, melatonin levels rise a few hours before bedtime, stay high through the night, and then settle back down when it's time to wake up. In our modern society, however, most of us stay up many hours past sunset and would probably sleep in many hours after sunrise if we could. And the trouble is, your melatonin levels may still be high when your alarm clock goes off in the morning, which leads to grogginess. It may also have other health consequences as well, such as diabetes (糖尿病),overweight and heart disease. Professor Kenneth Wright of the University of Colorado in the US wanted to see if our body clocks can be reset by a short stay in nature. His team recruited (招募) 14 physically active volunteers in their 20s and 30s.Nine went on a weekend camping trip, while the other five stayed home. At the end of the weekend, the researchers reported that in just two days, the campers' body clocks had shifted to that their melatonin levels began to rise more than an hour earlier than they did before they left on the trip.By comparison, the body clocks of the group that stayed home shifted even later over the course of the weekend. “This tells us we can reset our clocks fast,”Wright said. 1.Which of the following is TRUE about melatonin? A.When melatonin levels are high, we may feel very excited. B.When melatonin levels are low, it's time to go to sleep. C.The amount of melatonin affects our body clock. D.Melatonin tells us when to go to sleep and to wake up. 2.What does the word “grogginess” mean in Paragraph 3? A.Sleepiness. B.Headache. C.Stomachache. D.Homesickness. 根据第二段中“melatonin levels rise a few hours before bedtime, stay high through the night”和第三段中“And the trouble is...such as diabetes (糖尿病), overweight and heart disease.” 故选A项。 3.According to the passage, camping can . A.increase the amount of melatonin B.balance the hours of sleeping and waking up C.control the level of melatonin D.help shift the campers' body clocks 答案:D 解析:细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“At the end of the weekend...before they left on the trip.” 4.What may be the best title for the text? A.Mention melatonin! B.Reset your body clock C.Melatonin and body clock D.Camp, if you can! 通读全文,并结合倒数第二段中“At the end of the weekend...before they left on the trip.” B Have you ever had something good happen to you and felt like shouting it from the rooftops? Sharing positive events with others and receiving an enthusiastic response in return has been tied to many good outcomes, including closer relationships and greater happiness. Now, a new study suggests another benefit of sharing the good stuff:more feelings of gratitude. The researchers started by asking 300 participants how often they tended to share good news, and how other people in their lives generally responded to their good news. Then, six times a day for 10 days, the researchers asked participants to report on how grateful they were in the moment, how recently they'd had a social encounter, whether they'd shared good news with that person, and how close they felt to the person as a result. Afterward, the researchers analyzed the results to look for patterns. They found those who shared positive events with others felt more grateful in the moment and closer to the person with whom they shared the news.In addition, people with a tendency to share good news and receive enthusiastic responses were the most grateful in the group, overall. Sharing good news calls attention to the good things happening in your life, says Alexandra Gray, study coauthor of Northeastern University. For example, you might tell a friend what a great time you had over the holidays, and in recounting what happened, you can reexperience the positive feelings and become even more appreciative. Getting an enthusiastic response to your good news is also important, says Gray, because it makes you feel recognized, and cared for in a way that strengthens your relationship, and also leads to gratitude. Though there's still more research to be done, Gray suggests people not hold back on sharing their good news with others, or on showing enthusiasm when others share good news with them.We all have a role to play in helping positivity spread. 5.How did the researchers conduct the study? A.By analyzing participants' daily reports. B.By observing participants' social encounters. C.By studying participants' attitudes to sharing. D.By tracking participants' interactive behavior. 根据第二段“Then, six times a day for 10 days...and how close they felt to the person as a result.” A。 6.What does the underlined word“recounting”probably mean in paragraph 4? A.Repeating. B.Analyzing. C.Inquiring. D.Recalling. 根据第四段“For example, you might tell a friend what a great time you had over the holidays, and in recounting what happened, you can reexperience the positive feelings and become even more appreciative.” D。 7.What can we infer about positive responses to shared good news? A.They boost the sharer's selfawareness. B.They serve to confirm the listener's opinions. C.They are more influential if given by friends. D.They make people more connected with others. 根据第三段“They found those who shared positive events with others felt more grateful in the moment and closer to the person with whom they shared the news.”以及第五段“Getting an enthusiastic response...and also leads to gratitude.” D。 8.What is the author's purpose in writing the text? A.To discuss the key to strong friendships. B.To encourage people to share good news. C.To compare ways people react to good news. D.To analyze how gratitude improves happiness. 根据最后一段“Though there's still more research to be done...We all have a role to play in helping positivity spread.” When discussing future career options or selecting a major in college, your parents often say this. The very expression is meant to inspire. But is it good advice?“Finding” a passion implies that it already exists and is simply waiting to be discovered.Unfortunately, this idea is not what science tells us.1( ) To study this, researchers use a framework of“fixed”and“growth”mindsets. They argue that encouraging people to“find”their passion may cause them to eventually believe that interests and passions are inborn and relatively unchangeable.2( ) In contrast, people who view interests and passions as developed have a growth mindset of interest. Researchers have revealed that a fixed mindset of interest can decrease creativity. If people believe they are limited to only a few inborn interests and, in consequence, do not explore other areas, they may miss seeing important connections across domains.3( ) Evidently, people can do a lot to embrace a growth mindset of interest.First, realize that your interests and passions aren't preexisting.Take an active role in developing your passions.Second, practise positive selftalk. When you lack interest in a new task, pay attention to your inner dialogue.4( ) For example, change“I'm not interested in this” to “I'm not interested in this yet, but I know that interest can develop with time and engagement.” 5( ) But a growth mindset of interest will help you remain open and curious. The science tells us we should work toward loving what we do.We might become more creative and resilient as a result. A.So can a growth mindset of interest be taught? B.Instead passions, like interests, are developed. C.People who think this have a fixed mindset of interest. D.Of course, not every activity will become a burning passion. E.As such, seeing interests as fixed limits their creative potential. F.Don't expect that pursuing new interests will always be easy or exciting. G.Replace selfcritical thoughts with positive ones that encourage growth and learning. 1.答案:B 解析:根据上文“Unfortunately, this idea is not what science tells us.”可知,空处句子需要照应not,即表达“this idea是什么或该怎样”,再结合前面waiting to be discovered,可以发现B项“Instead passions, like interests, are developed.” C项“People who think this have a fixed mindset of interest.(这么想的人有一种固定的兴趣心态)”符合题意,this指代上文“believe that interests and passions are inborn and relatively unchangeable”。故选C。 3. E项“As such, seeing interests as fixed limits their creative potential.(因此,将兴趣视为固定的限制了他们的创造潜力)”符合题意,creative potential呼应上文explore other area。故选E。 4. 5.答案:D 解析:根据下句“But a growth mindset of interest will help you remain open and curious. The science tells us we should work toward loving what we do.We might become more creative and resilient as a result.”
