Time management techniques are some of the most important skills that you can learn. Effective time management will help you to boost your productivity, achieve a more successful and fulfilling ____1____ and get the most out of your personal life.
Prioritization is the key to time management. It drives us from reaction mode to ____2____ mode and helps us to avoid wasting valuable time on less important choices. Time is an extremely ____3____ commodity (商品) and is one that is always in short supply. In both our professional and personal lives, most of us are confronted with a daily barrage of tasks, and we usually spread ourselves too thin trying to accomplish them all. As a result, we often fail to accomplish any of them effectively. Since we cannot ____4____ the supply of time, all we can do is manage the demand. This is the basic ____5____ underlying effective time management.
Scheduling is the tool you must use to make time for your priorities and to cut out things for low priority. Scheduling is best done on a regular basis, such as at the start of each week. By using a schedule properly, you can understand what you can realistically achieve with your time, and plan to make the best use of your time. Firstly, identify the time you want to make ____6____ on your work. This will depend on the way your job is structured and on your personal life goals. Then identify the actions that you absolutely must complete in order to do a good job.
It is possible to finish a project on time and still be late — if you don’t realize that it’s finished! To some extent, perfectionism can be a subtle ____7____. You are doing a job, and doing it well, but somehow you’re never satisfied and keep on making changes. Some of the brightest people ____8____ the most from perfectionism — they just don’t know when to stop. Identify the tasks you tend to linger on, and set clear ____9____ on them because you have to move on to finish other tasks.
Good time management moves you from being active to being effective. Learn to use your time intelligently and creatively and your small investment of time will be ____10____ many times over.

What does it mean to live a good life? This question has been debated for centuries. In the field of psychology, two main concepts of the good life have been quite popular: A happy life full of pleasure and positive emotions, and a meaningful life full of purpose and sacrifice. But what if these aren’t the only options?
In recent years, a long-neglected version of the good life has been receiving greater attention: the psychologically rich life. It is full of complex mental engagement, a wide range of intense and deep emotions, and diverse, novel, surprising and interesting experiences. Sometimes they are neither pleasant nor meaningful. However, they are rarely boring or monotonous.
After all, both happy and meaningful lives can become monotonous and repetitive. A person with a steady office job, married with children, may be satisfied and find his or her life meaningful and still be bored. Also, the psychologically rich life doesn’t necessarily involve economic richness. For instance, consider Hesse’s character Goldmund, who has no money but pursues the life of a free spirit.
Research has found psychological richness is related to, but partially distinct from, both happy and meaningful lives. Psychological richness is related with openness to experience and experiencing both positive and negative emotions more intensely. But is the psychologically rich life one that people actually want?
In a new study, Oishi and his colleagues asked people in nine countries the degree to which they value a psychologically rich life, a happy life and a meaningful life. They found many people’s self-described ideal lives involve psychological richness. When forced to choose a life, however, the majority chose a happy life and a meaningful life. Even so, a minority of people still favored the psychologically rich life, ranging from 6.7% in Singapore to 16.8% in Germany.
These numbers went up when the desire for a psychologically rich life was measured indirectly. To understand what a person wishes their lives might have been, it is important to explore what people wish they had avoided in their lives. When asked what they regret most and whether undoing this event would have made their lives happier, more meaningful or psychologically richer, about 28% of Americans said undoing the regrettable event would have made their lives psychologically richer.
These findings suggest that while most people strive to be happy and have meaning in their lives, a sizable number of people are content merely living a psychologically rich existence.
As Oishi and his colleagues conclude, “We believe that taking the psychologically rich life seriously will deepen and enrich our understanding of well-being.” At the end of the day, there is no one singularly acceptable path to the good life. You have to find a path that works best for you.
24. According to the passage, the psychologically rich life _______.
A. means living a luxurious life
B. involves various intense emotions
C. combines pleasure with purpose
D. emphasizes openness and repetition
25. What does Oishi’s research indicate?
A. The Germans prefer psychological richness to a happy life.
B. Undoing regrettable events has enriched many people’s lives.
C. A hidden desire for psychological richness exists among some people.
D. People with psychological richness tend to describe their lives as ideal.
26. We can learn from the passage that _______.
A. purpose outweighs pleasure in terms of significance
B. the choice of a good life differs from person to person
C. a positive mindset helps us understand our well-being
D. we should never be content and always strive for the best
27. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To compare different concepts of a good life.
B. To explain how to live a psychologically rich life.
C. To persuade people to attain psychological richness.
D. To draw attention to a less familiar version of a good life.
【答案】24. B 25. C 26. B 27. D
【解析】
【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章提出除了传统观念的好的生活之外,另一种好生活——心理丰富的生活应该得到关注。
【详解】1.细节理解题。根据第二段第二句“It is full of complex mental engagement, a wide range of intense and deep emotions, and diverse, novel, surprising and interesting experiences.”(它充满了复杂的心理参与,广泛的强烈和深刻的情感,以及多样的、新奇的、惊奇的和有趣的体验。)可知,心理丰富的生活包含了各种强烈的情感。故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据倒第二段“These findings suggest that while most people strive to be happy and have meaning in their lives, a sizable number of people are content merely living a psychologically rich existence.”(这些发现表明,虽然大多数人努力让自己快乐,让自己的生活有意义,但仍有相当数量的人仅仅满足于心理上丰富的生活。)可知,Oishi的调查显示在一些人当中,隐藏着一种对心理丰富的渴望。故选C。
3.推理判断题。根据第五段最后两句“When forced to choose a life, however, the majority chose a happy life and a meaningful life. Even so, a minority of people still favored the psychologically rich life, ranging from 6.7% in Singapore to 16.8% in Germany.”(然而,当被迫选择一种生活时,大多数人选择了幸福的生活和有意义的生活。即便如此,仍有一小部分人青睐心理富裕的生活,从新加坡的6.7%到德国的16.8%不等。)可知,对于好的生活的选择因人而异。故选B。
4.推理判断题。文章第一段中提出问题“What does it mean to live a good life? ”(过好生活意味着什么?)并指出“In the field of psychology, two main concepts of the good life have been quite popular: A happy life full of pleasure and positive emotions, and a meaningful life full of purpose and sacrifice.”(在心理学领域,关于美好生活的两个主要概念一直很流行:一个是充满快乐和积极情绪的幸福生活,一个是充满目标和牺牲的有意义的生活。)然后提出问题“But what if these aren’t the only options?”(但如果这些不是唯一的选择呢?)所以文章的目的是想提出一种不与传统概念相同的另一种好的生活的选择,并在第二段中提出“In recent years, a long-neglected version of the good life has been receiving greater attention: the psychologically rich life.”(近年来,一个长期被忽视的美好生活的版本越来越受到关注:心理丰富的生活。)可知这篇文章的主要目的是让人们注意到不太熟悉的美好生活。故选D。
C
Two of the world’s most common species of reef-building corals seem surprisingly able to survive and even cope well with climate change, according to a new study—at least so long as global warming is kept below 2 degrees Celsius, the target set by the Paris Agreement.
The world has so far warmed by 1.1°C. The Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest reef system, is currently in “crisis,” a recently published UN report said. That report warned that some coral reef ecosystems could face irreversible damage if the world warms more than 1.5°C. A 2018 report by the IPCC concluded that at 2ºC or more, 99 percent of all reef-building corals could be lost.
But that’s not what McLachlan and her colleagues observed when they subjected Hawaiian corals to a simulated (模拟) 2ºC world for nearly two years. They found that two common coral species were especially resilient (能复原的) : Two-thirds of those corals survived the simulated future.
To learn more about how both warming and acidification might threat reefs in the future, they collected samples of three common coral species and placed them in tanks where they would be exposed to the same weather as a reef just offshore. They filled a total of 40 tanks with sand, rubble, reef fish, plankton, and other reef features. The idea was to simulate ocean conditions as realistically as possible.
For 22 months, the researchers subjected some corals to 2ºC of warming, some to acidified water, and some to both changes. Overall, of the corals exposed to both conditions, 46 percent of rice coral, 56 percent of lobe coral, and 71 percent of finger coral survived. Many of the corals were even thriving.
“The paper supports what has been observed in Hawaii.” says Ku’ulei Rodgers, a coral expert at the University of Hawaii at Manōa. “However, although it is hopeful that some species will survive this century, unless significant reductions in emissions occur, corals will eventually lose their fight for survival.”
28. What can we know from the passage?
A. It seems some corals can adapt to a warmer world without limits.
B. The Great Barrier Reef will be lost as the world has warmed by 1.1°.
C. Two kinds of reef-building corals seem able to survive be free of global warming.
D. Living coral reefs would disappear from the planet if the world warms 2ºC or more.
29. Why McLachlan and her colleagues did the study?
A. To collect samples of three common coral species.
B. To simulate ocean conditions as realistically as possible.
C. To figure out how both warming and acidification might damage reefs.
D. To warn that reef ecosystems could face significant damage for global warming.
30. What does the last paragraph imply?
A. Ku’ulei Rodgers speaks highly of the paper.
B. It’s hopeful that corals will survive in the future.
C. Corals will eventually lose their fight for survival.
D. Humans should spare no effort to reduce emissions.
31. How did the researchers do the research?
A. By sampling and discussing.
B. By contrasting and observing.
C. By assuming and contrasting.
D. By observing and discussing.
【答案】28. D 29. C 30. D 31. B

Overall, of the corals exposed to both conditions, 46 percent of rice coral, 56 percent of lobe coral, and 71 percent of finger coral survived. Many of the corals were even thriving.”(在22个月的时间里,研究人员让一些珊瑚受到2摄氏度的升温,一些受到酸化水的影响,还有一些受到两种变化的影响。

Would you turn down the chance to become a smart cookie? We’ve been longing for quick fixes that could increase our intelligence (智力). Today, people’s hopes lie in brain training apps as a speedy “digital pill”. The more you play, the smarter you will get—or so some apps tell us. But is this digital-shortcut all that it seems to be?
The use of games for serious purposes has become widespread with the development of the Internet and smartphones. Brain training apps are typical, frequently featured by Apple and Google’s app stores. Many of such apps say that they are backed by “science”. Even if there were agreement around what makes general intelligence, the idea that increasing it would be as simple as practising a few mini-games every day goes against our current discovery about thinking and learning.
Several major studies, surveying users across a wide variety of apps, have found that they have little to no effect on users’ performance. A 2021 study by researchers discovered brain training has no significant effect on cognitive (认知的) functioning in the “real world”. The positive effects reported are limited to the very specific mini-games and tasks, such as memorizing lists of words or numbers, or performing mental calculation (心算). So, if your job or your calling in life needs summing quickly or remembering all your friends’ phone numbers, these apps will do. But if you are expecting them to improve your ability to write a novel or form a complex (复杂的) spreadsheet, you have to look elsewhere. Yet, despite the fact that they hardly work, brain training apps play a leading role, partly because they are regarded to be scientific and partly because users think they are fun.
As a co-creator of one of the most popular forms of gamification (游戏化) noted, what is especially disappointing about these apps is that they just aren’t that fun—at least, not compared with the various thoughtful board games and video games coming out every day. Puzzle video games, such as Baba Is You and detective games like Return of the Obra Dinn, see players apply their skill at reasoning, memory and concentration in a far more challenging and engaging (吸引人的) way.
If you aren’t into games, simply go for a walk or learn how to dance. They are likely to be more effective than a brain training app in sharpening your mind. These activities might not lead to an increased IQ, but they are sure to engage your brain deeply while having fun—something I can by no means say of brain training apps.
32. Which of the following would the author probably agree with?
A. Brain training apps are backed by science.
B. Creativity can be improved with brain training apps.
C. Gamification has little to do with increasing intelligence.
D. Increasing IQ is as simple as practising a few mini-games every day.
33. According to the passage, brain training apps are still popular because ________.
A. they turn mental exercises into quick games
B. they are considered both scientific and interesting
C. they are more effective in shaping our minds than other games
D. they have significant effects on the cognitive functioning in the “real world”
34. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. A Smart Cookie or Not? B. There’s No App for That
C. What will Games Lead Us to? D. A Digital Pill for Intelligence
【答案】32. C 33. B 34. B
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章提出观点称许多人认为借助一些游戏程序能够提高智力,但作者不这样认为,他通过呈现一些研究结果等信息佐证他的观点。
【32题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段最后一句“Even if there were agreement around what makes general intelligence, the idea that increasing it would be as simple as practising a few mini-games every day goes against our current discovery about thinking and learning. (即使人们对一般智力的形成达成了一致,但增加一般智力只需每天练习几个小游戏就可以了,这一想法与我们目前关于思考和学习的发现背道而驰。)”可知,作者认为称每天练习小游戏能够提升智力是不准确的,即可推测,作者不赞同通过游戏化能够增加智力这一说法。故选C项。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段最后一句“Yet, despite the fact that they hardly work, brain training apps play a leading role, partly because they are regarded to be scientific and partly because users think they are fun. (然而,尽管大脑训练应用程序几乎不起作用,但它们发挥着主导作用,部分原因是因为它们被认为是科学的,部分原因在于用户认为它们很有趣。)”可知,这些程序流行的原因是用户认为它们有趣且科学。故选B项。
【34题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段二三句“We’ve been longing for quick fixes that could increase our intelligence (智力). Today, people’s hopes lie in brain training apps as a speedy “digital pill”. (我们一直渴望快速解决问题,以提高我们的智力。今天,人们的希望寄托于作为一种快速的“数字药丸”的大脑训练应用程序们上。)”可推测,本文探讨的核心在于这些“数字药丸”;根据用于引出下文的第一段最后一句“But is this digital-shortcut all that it seems to be? (但是,这条数字捷径看起来就是这样吗?)”可知,作者对这些“数字药丸”有没有效果表示存疑;而最后一段一二句“If you aren’t into games, simply go for a walk or learn how to dance. They are likely to be more effective than a brain training app in sharpening your mind. (如果你不喜欢游戏,那就去散步或学习跳舞。它们可能能比大脑训练应用程序更有效地磨砺你的头脑。)”指出作者最终得出结论,没有app类的“数字药丸”对提升智力有效,这是本文的标题。故选B项。
第二节 七选五(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,共 10 分)
Poor Sleep and Loneliness: A Vicious Cycle?
The feeling of being lonely is the sense that you have less social contact with others than you want. It is not quite the same as the amount of social contact you have. Some people don’t engage that often with others, but they are perfectly fine with that, and so they don’t feel alone. ____35____ Being lonely is associated with poorer psychological health.
One area of research has focused specifically on the relationship between loneliness and sleep. There are several inter-related questions: Is feeling lonely related to the quality of people’s sleep? What aspects of sleep are related to loneliness? And does loneliness cause sleep problems, or do difficulties with sleeping lead to feelings of loneliness? ___36___
The relationship between loneliness and sleep was explored in a paper by Melanie Hom and Caol Chu in the September 2020 issue of Clinical Psychological Science. They analyzed the data of previous studies relating sleep quality to feelings of loneliness. ____37____ This relationship is stronger for insomnia (失眠症) than for sleep complaints like nightmares. In addition, the more loneliness people express, the less effective they think their sleep is.
Although poor sleep and loneliness are closely related, it is hard to determine whether loneliness causes sleep difficulties or the reverse (相反).
___38___ It is because you can look to see whether sleep difficulties at one time predict later feelings of loneliness or whether loneliness early on predicts later sleep difficulties. Interestingly, sleep problems predicted later loneliness and loneliness predicted later sleep difficulties. However, the connection between earlier sleep difficulties and later loneliness was generally stronger than that between earlier loneliness and later sleep difficulties. This pattern suggests that there may be a vicious cycle, though, in which poor sleep can increase feelings of loneliness, which can in turn increase sleep difficulties.
If you are someone who has trouble sleeping, be aware that poor sleep lowers your resilience (复原力) overall. Among other things, it may make it harder for you to appreciate the social contacts you have. ____39____ That added social engagement just might have a positive impact on your future sleep.
A. Long-term studies that follow the same people over time help.
B. If you have difficulty in social engagement, you may feel lonely.
C. Other people may spend a lot of time with others, but still long for more.
D. These issues are important because poor sleep can affect psychological health.
E. To solve the problem, you should monitor your sleeping quality and physical health.
F. If you have trouble sleeping, try spending more time reaching out to friends and loved ones.
G. The results indicate that the more sleep difficulties people express they have, the lonelier they feel.
【答案】35. C 36. D 37. G 38. A 39. F
【解析】
【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章对失眠和孤独之间的联系进行了研究,并且提出了如何解决此问题的建议。
【详解】1.根据前文“It is not quite the same as the amount of social contact you have. ”(这和你拥有的社会联系的数量是不一样的。)可知,下文应分别陈述不同的人对社交量的需求。根据前文“Some people don’t engage that often with others, but they are perfectly fine with that, and so they don’t feel alone.”(有些人并不经常与他人交往,但他们对此完全没有问题,所以他们并不感到孤独。)可推知,设空处应陈述与之相反的情况。选项C(有些人可能花很多时间与他人在一起,但仍然渴望更多)切合文意,选项中的other people对应上文的some people。故选C。
2.根据第二段第一句“One area of research has focused specifically on the relationship between loneliness and sleep”(其中一个研究领域专门关注孤独和睡眠之间的关系)可知,第二段主要是讲孤独和睡眠的关系,对应选项C中的poor sleep can affect psychological health。所以选项C(这些问题很重要,因为睡眠不好会影响心理健康。)切合文意,且选项中的These issues对应前文中提到的三个问题。故选D。
3.根据前文“They analyzed the data of previous studies relating sleep quality to feelings of loneliness. ”(他们分析了之前有关睡眠质量与孤独感的研究数据。)可推知,设空处应陈述他们分析数据得出的结果,所以选项G(研究结果表明,人们表现出的睡眠问题越多,他们就会感到越孤独。)切合文意,选项中的The results对应上文的analyzed。故选G。
4.后文“ It is because you can look to see whether sleep difficulties at one time predict later feelings of loneliness or whether loneliness early on predicts later sleep difficulties. ”(这是因为你可以看一段时间的睡眠困难是否预示着以后的孤独感,或者早期的孤独是否预示着以后的睡眠困难。)表明这是长期的对相同的人的研究,所以选项A(长期跟踪同一批人的研究会有所帮助。)切合文意。故选A。
5.根据前文“If you are someone who has trouble sleeping, be aware that poor sleep lowers your resilience (复原力) overall. Among other things, it may make it harder for you to appreciate the social contacts you have.”(如果你有睡眠问题,要注意睡眠会降低你的复原力。此外,它会让你很难享受你所拥有的社会联系)和下文“ That added social engagement just might have a positive impact on your future sleep.”(增加社交活动可能会对你未来的睡眠产生积极影响。)可推知,设空处应陈述解决这种问题的方法。所以选项F(如果你有睡眠问题,试着花更多的时间联系朋友和爱人。)切合文意,下文的that对应选项中的try spending more time reaching out to friends and loved ones.。故选F。
第三部分:书面表达(共3小题,共 32 分)
第一节 阅读与表达 (共4小题;第40、41小题各2分,第42小题3分,第43小题5分,共12分)
阅读下面短文,根据题目要求回答问题。
When most people think of the arts, they imagine the end product, such as a beautiful painting, a wonderful piece of music, or an award-winning performance in the theater. But arts groups bring broader value to our communities. The economic impact of the arts is often overlooked and badly judged.
The arts create jobs that help develop the economy. Any given performance takes a tour bus full of artists, technical experts, managers, musicians, or writers to create an appealing piece of art. These people earn a living wage for their professional knowledge and skills.
Another group of folks are needed to help market the event. “If you build it they will come” is a misleading belief. Painters, digital media experts, photographers, booking agents and promoters are hired to sell tickets and promote the event. According to the Dallas Area Cultural Advocacy Coalition, arts agencies employ more than 10,000 people as full-or part-time employees or independent contractors.
A successful arts neighborhood creates a ripple effect (连锁反应) throughout a community. In 2015, when the Bishop Arts Theatre was donated to our town, the location was considered a poor area of town. After investing more than $1 million in reconstructing the building, we began producing a full season of theater performances, jazz concerts, and year-round arts education programs in 2018. No doubt the theater has contributed to the area’s economic growth. Today, there are galleries, studios, restaurants and newly built work spaces where neighbors share experiences, where there is renewed life and energy. In this way, arts and culture also serve as a public good.
TeCo Theatrical Productions Inc. made use of Bloomberg’s investment of $35,000 to get nearly $400,000 in public and private sector support during the two-year period. Further, Dallas arts and arts-based businesses produce $298 for every dollar the city spends on arts programming and facilities. In Philadelphia, a metro area smaller than Dallas, the arts have an economic impact of almost $3 million and support 44,000 jobs, 80 percent of which actually extend to other fields, including accountants, marketers, construction workers, hotel managers, printers, and other kinds of art workers.
The arts are efficient economic drivers and when they are supported, the entire small-business community benefits.
40. What do most people imagine when they think of the arts?
_____________________________________________________________
41. According to Paragraph 4, what benefits can arts bring to a community?
_____________________________________________________________
42. Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
In Philadelphia, the arts have a huge economic impact and create abundant jobs, most of which lie mainly in the arts industry.
_____________________________________________________________
43. Besides economic development, what other benefits can arts bring to us?
_____________________________________________________________
【答案】40. They imagine the end product, such as a beautiful painting, a wonderful piece of music, or an award-winning performance in the theater.
41. Firstly, arts have contributed to an area’s economic growth. In addition, arts and culture also serve as a public good.
42. In Philadelphia, the arts have a huge economic impact and create abundant jobs, most of which lie mainly in the arts industry.
According to the passage, most of the jobs actually extend to other fields.
43. Arts enrich people's spiritual life and offer abundant cultural education resources. They revive community energy and strengthen harmonious relationships among local residents greatly.

D
