B William Lindesay, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. Sun hats, backpacks and sneakers (运动鞋) — these are the day-to-day must-haves for the family. Most of their trips seem far from relaxing — cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow. Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow as an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. “We crossed the city for saving money, communicated with local people, and saw they are people just like us, everywhere. We arrived at our destination feeling comfortable.” However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time. Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says. 4. How can we describe the Lindesays’ trips? A. Challenging. B. Conventional. C. Pleasant. D. Dangerous. 5. What does the underlined word “eschew” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Visit. B. Avoid. C. Compare. D. Evaluate. 6. What problem does the family meet when traveling? A. They have scheduling conflicts. B. They suffer from a tight budget. C. They are faced with language barriers. D. They hold different educational ideas. 7. Which statement may Lindesay agree with according to the text? A. Toughness is the best assistant of will. B. There is no royal road to learning. C. Actions speak louder than words. D. Man who travels far knows more. C Scientists have developed a new type of smart bandage (绷带) that can signal the type of bacterial (细菌的) infection it’s protecting, just like a traffic light, as well as release the right type of drugs on demand. The traffic light system works just like this: Green means no bacteria or a low concentration of bacteria, yellow means drug-sensitive (DS) bacteria responsive to standard antibiotics (抗生素) and causes antibiotic release, and red means drug-resistant (DR) bacteria that need extra help to be wiped out. In testing the bandage on mice, the research team was able to successfully treat both DS and DR infections using the new method. However, the common methods of sensing resistance are limited by time, the requirement for professional personnel, and expensive instruments. Moreover, the abuse of antibiotics causes the accelerated process of bacterial resistance. It’s easy to see how a simple bandage and light could overcome some of these limitations. Treatment doesn’t have to wait for a doctor to make a diagnosis, and the bandage can get the right sort of drugs applied at the earliest opportunity. What’s more, the person wearing the bandage gets real-time feedback on what’s happening with the infection, if there’s an infection at all. The researchers say it offers numerous benefits over existing treatments that make use of light, including photodynamic therapy or PDT. We’ve been seeing quite a few upgrades to the traditional bandage in recent years, thanks to advances in science — like the nanofiber mesh that attracts bacteria and draws some of it out, speeding up the healing process. Then there’s the novel bandage for treating burns, which stops bacteria from multiplying and lowers the risk of infection. The more work that a bandage can do while it’s protecting a wound, the better. Efforts to improve bandages continue and now we've got a bandage that not only releases antibiotics, but also tells the patient exactly what’s going on too. 8. What is the smart bandage mainly designed to do? A. Avoid the use of antibiotics. B. Clear out harmful bacteria. C. Detect bacterial infections. D. Increase treatment options. 9. What is the advantage of the smart bandage? A. It saves much time and cost. B. It removes the risk of infection. C. It prevents the bacterial resistance. D. It improves doctor-patient relationship. 10. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs? A. Traditional bandages are out of use now. B. More smart bandages will be developed. C. Progress in science calls for more research. D. People are urged to study medical science. 11. What does the text focus on? A. A successful test on mice. B. A colour-changing bandage. C. Sensing drug-resistant bacteria. D. Preventing abuse of antibiotics. D The human brain is a remarkable organ, especially when it comes to language learning. Scientists have long been fascinated by how the brain processes languages and the differences in language acquisition between children and adults. Recent research has shown that the brain’s plasticity plays a crucial role in language learning. Plasticity refers to the brain’s ability to change and adapt. In children, the brain is highly plastic, which allows them to pick up languages with relative ease. Their brains are like sponges (海绵), soaking up new words, grammar rules, and pronunciation patterns quickly. For example, young children can often learn a second language without an accent, something that is much more difficult for adults. One area of the brain that is particularly important for language learning is Broca’s area. Located in the frontal lobe, Broca’s area is responsible for speech production and language processing. When we speak, Broca’s area coordinates (协调) the muscles in our mouth, tongue, and throat to form words. Damage to this area can lead to speech disorders, such as difficulty in forming sentences and expressing thoughts clearly. Another key region is Wernicke’s area, which is found in the temporal lobe. Wernicke’s area is involved in language comprehension. It helps us understand the meaning of words and sentences we hear or read. If there is damage to Wernicke’s area, a person may be able to speak fluently (流利地) but may not make sense, as they have trouble understanding the language they are using. As we age, the brain’s plasticity decreases. This is why adults often find it more challenging to learn a new language. However, it doesn’t mean that adults can’t learn languages effectively. Adult brains can still form new neural connections through practice and repetition. For instance, language immersion programs, where adults are surrounded by the target language, can be very effective in promoting language learning. In addition to the physical changes in the brain, cognitive (认知) factors also play a role. Motivation, for example, is a significant factor in language learning. Adults who are highly motivated to learn a new language tend to be more successful. They are more likely to practice regularly, seek out opportunities to use the language, and persevere through difficulties. As a whole, the brain’s structure and function, along with cognitive factors, all contribute to the process of language learning. Whether you are a child or an adult, understanding how the brain works in language learning can help you find the most effective ways to acquire a new language. 12. What can be learned according to the recent research? A. Children’s brains are less plastic than adults’. B. Adults can never learn a new language as effectively as children. C. Adults may face more difficulties in acquiring a new language. D. Both children and adults can learn a second language without an accent. 13. If a person can speak fluently but illogically, which is most likely damaged? A. Broca’s area. B. Wernicke’s area. C. The temporal lobe as a whole. D. The frontal lobe in general. 14. Which contributes to effective language learning in adults? A. Relying solely on textbooks for learning. B. Being absorbed in the language environment. C. Strictly following grammar rules from the beginning. D. Avoiding speaking until perfect pronunciation is achieved. 15. What can be inferred form the last paragraph? A. Children are better at language learning than adults. B. Adults should focus only on cognitive factors for language learning. C. Language immersion program is the best way to learn a language. D. Language learning involves both physical and mental aspects. How to become a morning person Everyone knows that early to bed and early to rise is good for your health. To me, they mean growth under the care of others. I learned this the hard way. I used to be very shy and often felt lonely. Although I did well in all the academic subjects, I was afraid of physical education. That’s because my classmates often laughed at me. “Look at that girl,” they said. “Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!” Their words always embarrassed me. Moreover, whenever the teacher organized some competitive games, no one in the class liked to have me as their partner or team member. As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoy their games. Things would go on like that if not for a sports meet in my high school. By mistake, my name was put on the list of those who would compete in the women’s 1,500 meters race. By the time people found the mistake, it was too late to change. One girl who was a natural athlete said to me, “I couldn’t run that race in your place, because I’ve signed up for three items already. This time, you should run for yourself.” Other athletic girls of the class said the same. I was utterly dumbfounded. 1,500 meters! Running against the best runners from other classes! And in front of students of the entire school! It would be the worst nightmare I’d ever have! Oh, my god! Giving up is out of the question now. What should I do? I was lost in a dilemma. Just at that time, my classmates noticed my awkwardness. “You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet.” They all said this to me, including my teacher. My deskmate patted me on the shoulder, “Cool! You will run for our class! And we will do training together.” Yes, “This is not just for myself, but for my class too.” I said to myself. But still, 1,500 meters to me was like Mount Everest to a beginning climber. I had no idea even how to start my preparation. Fortunately, my deskmate gave me a hand. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as 1 could, as if it were a 200-meter race. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 晋江市紫峰中学2025-2026学年(春)高一年级期中考试 英语科试卷 (考试时间:120分钟 满分:150分 ) 第一部分 听力 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题; 每题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 根据Antelope Canyon Navajo Tour标题下的“The company opens up online reservations one to two months in advance, so be sure to book early, as tickets sell out quickly.(该公司提前一到两个月开放在线预订,因此一定要提前预订,因为门票很快就会售罄)”可知,为了参加Antelope Canyon Navajo Tour,你需要提前订票。 根据Antelope Slot Canyon Tour标题下的“Discounted tickets are available for soldiers and children aged 6 to 12; (士兵和6至12岁的儿童可享受折扣票)”可知,Antelope Slot Canyon Tour为军人和6至12岁的儿童提供折扣票。 根据Antelope Canyon X Taadidiin Tour标题下的“Price: Adults from $40; kids from $30(价格:成人40美元起;30美元起的儿童)”以及“Photography lovers can sign up for Taadidiin’s Photo Tour, which spends three hours in the canyon and permits participants to bring a tripod and a camera bag. Additional fees are $125 per person.(摄影爱好者可以报名参加Taadidiin的摄影之旅,在峡谷中度过三个小时,参与者可以携带三脚架和相机包。额外费用为每人125美元)”可知,除了基础费用外,摄影爱好者还需支付额外的125。因此,如果一个成人摄影爱好者选择此行程,他将支付基础费用40,加上额外费用125,总共是165。故选A。 B William Lindesay, a famous Great Wall expert and conservationist, and his wife Wu Qi have traveled the globe by the back paths, providing their sons with a unique growing environment. A 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第二段“Most of their trips seem far from relaxing—cultural study in the hot and dry desert, a 53-kilometer hiking tour of New Zealand, a one-day climb to three English mountaintops and a six-day train ride from Beijing to Moscow. (他们的大多数旅行似乎都远非放松——在炎热干燥的沙漠中进行文化研究,53公里的新西兰徒步旅行,一天攀登三座英国山顶,以及从北京到莫斯科的六天火车旅行。)”可知,林赛他们一家人的旅行很有挑战性。 【5题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“Many assume the family must be wealthy and can afford their global travel, but they are not. Lindesay says they just choose to spend money on travel and eschew pricey hotels and restaurants where possible. Lindesay mentions the trip to Moscow as an example. Instead of taking a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, they took the subway. 根据第四段“However, their journeys, which can last weeks or months, have sometimes been inconsistent with their children’s schooling. Wu remembers once Lindesay let their elder son ask for leave so that they could go to New York for a 45-day lecture tour. Therefore the son missed his final exam. Things like that bother the family all the time. (然而,他们的旅程可能会持续数周或数月,有时与孩子的学业不一致。吴琪记得有一次林赛让他们的大儿子请假,让他们去纽约做45天的巡回演讲。因此,儿子错过了期末考试。这样的事情一直困扰着这个家庭。)”可知,林赛他们一家人的旅行会和孩子的学习安排不一致。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Lindesay attaches great importance to learning out of the classroom, saying that children might score well on school tests, but traveling outside, in distant lands with different languages, cultures, and political structures, is the real test. “You can only get streetwise on the street. You can only get worldly-wise when seeing the world,” he says. (林赛非常重视在课堂外学习,他说孩子们可能在学校考试中得分很高,但真正的考试是在不同语言、文化和政治结构的遥远国度里外出旅行。他说:“你只能在街上变得有街头智慧。只有看到世界,你才能变得有世俗智慧。”)”可知,在林赛看来,只有远行才能让人更有智慧。 C Scientists have developed a new type of smart bandage (绷带) that can signal the type of bacterial (细菌的) infection it’s protecting, just like a traffic light, as well as release the right type of drugs on demand. 8. C 9. A 10. B 11. 12. C 13. B 14. B 15. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Fortunately, my deskmate gave me a hand. She drew up a detailed training plan for me. Every day after school, we would head to the playground. At first, I could only run a short distance and felt exhausted quickly. But she always encouraged me, saying, “Come on! You are getting better every day.” She ran alongside me, correcting my running posture and pace. Week by week, I gradually built up my stamina and my speed increased. With her help and the support of my classmates, I became more confident. With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as I could, as if it were a 200-meter race. But soon I realized I needed to conserve my energy. Remembering my deskmate’s words, I adjusted my rhythm. As I ran, I could hear my classmates cheering me on. Their voices gave me strength. When I felt like giving up, I thought of the efforts I had made and the trust they placed in me. In the end, I crossed the finish line. Although I didn’t win the first place, I finished the race, and I knew I had overcome myself. 1】As I ran, I could hear my classmates cheering me on.(运用了as引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】When I felt like giving up, I thought of the efforts I had made and the trust they placed in me.(运用了when引导的状语从句和省略关系代词的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
