No matter what you’re into, you’ll find a festival that fits — even the most particular tastes are covered. Meatopia This three-day, London-based festival takes place at the end of August and is a meat lover’s paradise. In addition to a range of legally sourced meat products, from juicy burgers to tender steaks, attendees can listen to live music, watch butchery demonstrations, and attend informal meat-based workshops. The National Honey Show If you have a sweet tooth, then it could be that the National Honey Show, which started in 1921 and is the largest event of its kind, is the place for you to be. This three-day event attracts many local entries who showcase their sweet golden honey, some of which is sold globally. The Orange Sauce Festival Have you heard about a festival that is devoted only to orange sauce? Held in Cumbria, this sweet, fragrant festival has been running for 3 years. What attracts people most is a competition to find the best homemade orange sauce. There are thousands of participants from over 30 different countries across the globe, bringing their local snacks to share here. The Ginger and Spice Festival If you’d prefer something with a little more kick to it, then you could attend The Ginger and Spice Festival held in Market Drayton. Unlike other food festivals, it celebrates its town’s historic connection to Robert Clive, who returned from India with ginger. Because of this, they specialize in baking gingerbread, but also sell a range of traditional spices from mild to hot. 21. What do Meatopia and the National Honey Show have in common? A. B For one woman, a quiet walk in the neighborhood turned into a life-saving task. All was calm until a weak sound cut through the quiet. At first, she thought she imagined it — a soft cry, almost too quiet to notice. But then it came again, clearer this time: a small, frightened cry. Her heart jumped a beat. She stopped. Something was wrong. A dog was in trouble. She looked at nearby yards, fences, and sidewalks — and then realized the cries were coming from below. Leaning over a storm drain (泄水沟), she saw at the bottom sat a dog, wide-eyed, shaking, and badly hoping someone would hear her. Without hesitation, she called Animal Law Enforcement for help. Corporal Rollins arrived quickly, looking over the situation. The drain was too narrow for a simple rescue, and the space below was small, making it impossible to climb in safely. Then Rollins noticed a nearby well cover. After the cover was lifted, a dark tunnel (通道) appeared, and almost immediately, the dog carefully walked toward the light, as if sensing that help had arrived. Officer Moore soon joined Rollins, and together they formed a careful plan. With patience, calm voices, and treats in hand, Rollins climbed down and slowly earned the dog’s trust. Dirty, frightened, but unharmed, she finally allowed herself to be fixed and lifted safely out of the tunnel. The frightened dog, named Kita, was brought to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region. Her photo was quickly posted, and almost immediately her family recognized her. They rushed to the place, overjoyed to be reunited with their beloved dog. Before leaving, they made the right choice to microchip (植入芯片) her, making sure she could always find her way home in the future. Another life has been saved. Another happy tail has returned to the home where it rightfully belongs. 24. What was the dog doing when the woman found it? A. It was calling for help. B. It was lying quietly there. C. It was running in the street. D. It was searching for food. 25. Which can best describe the method of the rescue? A. Proper. B. Costly. C. Stressful. D. Strange. 26. It believed in the rescuers. 27.Which saying best fits what the dog’s owners did at last? A. Every dog has its day. B. Love me, love my dog. C. Better late than never. D. Every coin has two sides. C The Fahai Temple, located at the southern foot of Cuiwei Mountain in the Shijingshan district of Beijing, houses Ming Dynasty frescoes (壁画) dating back nearly 600 years. Today, a brand-new Fahai Temple Mural Art Center has been built at the foot of the mountain. “By using digital modern technology, valuable digital resources have been created, allowing the inactive frescoes to come to life,” said Liu Xiaobo, the art center’s curator. First built in 1439, the Fahai Temple is known as one of the “three major frescoes in China” together with the frescoes found in Dunhuang and Yongle Palace. “The frescoes depict 77 figures, including ordinary people, Buddhas and bodhisattvas, each with different postures and expressions,” said Liu. With the fall of Ming Dynasty, the prosperity of the Fahai Temple too came to an abrupt end. However, in recent years, the development of a high-tech industry featuring creativity services and digital technology has given the Shijingshan district government more confidence in the digital display of frescoes. At the exhibition of Fahai Temple Mural Art Center, the original mural paintings are displayed on a 4K HD screen, presenting them at their actual size. Each of the 77 figures is portrayed with thorough attention to detail using 3D modeling at the pixel (像素) level. The facial details of Water-moon Avalokitesvara, one of the most representative figures on the frescoes of Fahai Temple, are hard to make out in dim conditions. However, after using 3D modeling, the figure’s face, which measures over 3 meters tall, can be seen clearly on the 4K HD screen at the mural hall of the art center. “Through technological means, we can zoom in on them to show specific details and introduce the content of the frescoes item by item, offering the audience ample time to understand the frescoes,” Liu explained. 28. What can we know about the Fahai Temple frescoes? A. They were built during the Qing Dynasty. B. They are among China’s three major frescoes. C. There are altogether 77 Buddhas in the frescoes. D. They remained prosperous in the Ming Dynasty. 29. Why is 3D modeling used for the frescoes? A. To reduce the actual size of the figures. B. To make the figures move like real ones. C. To change the facial expressions of the figures. D. To show the details more clearly and completely. 30. What does the underlined word “zoom in on” probably mean? A. Enlarge B. Decorate C. Restore D. Appreciate 31. What is the main idea of the text? A. The long history of the Fahai Temple. B. Ways to appreciate the Fahai Temple frescoes. C. The introduction of three great Chinese frescoes. D. Application of digital technology to ancient frescoes. D We grow up eating the food of our cultures. It becomes a part of who each of us is. Many of us connect food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it ties us to our families, holding a special and personal value for us. When I was sick as a kid, I couldn’t eat rice because I was too weak, so my mother would cook soup and bring it to bed for me. Now, whenever I feel tired or stressed, I remember the soup my mum used to make for me. Food is an important part of culture. Immigrants (移民) bring the food of their countries with them wherever they go and cooking traditional food is a way of keeping their culture when they move to new places. Many open their own restaurants and serve traditional dishes. However, the food does not remain exactly the same. When immigrants sell food in another country, they have to change the original dishes to satisfy a wider range of customers with different tastes and flavour (味道) preferences. Changes to original dishes can create new flavours that still have the cultural significance of the dish. In China, harmony is an important character in almost every side of life. This is mirrored in Chinese food, where almost every flavour is used in a balanced way creating delicious dishes with flavours that go well together. Additionally, they believe that food not only needs to be nutritious (有营养的) but also needs to look attractive, so they put a lot of effort into beautifying the dishes and making them look colourful. The food of the United States mirrors its history. The European colonisation (殖民) of the Americas introduced European ingredients (原料) and cooking styles to the US. Later in the 20th century, the arrival of immigrants from many other foreign nations developed a rich variety in food preparation throughout the country. As the world becomes more globalised, it is easier to have food from different cultures. We should hug our heritage through our culture’s food, but we should also know about other cultures by trying their food. 32. What does the author want to tell us by the soup story? A. He has a memorable childhood. B. Food reminds him of his family. C. Food plays an important role in our life. D. He has a great mother good at cooking. 33. What do immigrant restaurants do with their traditional food in new places? A. Create new dishes from it. B. Change its flavours. C. Replace it with local food. D. Change its cooking style. 34. What do we know about the Chinese food? A. It mainly focuses on nutrition. B. It’s time-consuming to prepare. C. It is influenced by other cultures. D. It stresses nutrition and appearance. 35. When you go jogging outdoors, natural light and distant scenery help ease eye strain and improve your vision, which is exactly what you need! To get the most out of it, wear comfortable shoes and stop if you feel unwell. In addition, always warm up with some stretching before running. Give jogging a try and you’ll see visible changes in your health! Yours, Li Hua 第二节 读后续写(共25分) 参考范文: There was a phone number on the flyer. My dad called it and someone answered; it was a lady. My dad asked whether she was the one who put out the flyers. She said “Yes! ” with excitement and told us Coby, who was very dear to her, had been gone days before. Then we told her that we had her puppy and we would take him to her. She told us her address at once; then we went to it. We found the lady’s house, and then we knocked on the door. A lady opened the door, and when she saw the puppy, she screamed with joy. We handed her the puppy, feeling proud. She wanted to give us a reward for taking care of her puppy, but we said it was OK because we were really happy to help. We went home tired but content, telling my mom the whole thing. My family became friends with the lady, and we usually visited her, and of course, Coby! 词汇激活 行为类 ①告诉:tell /inform ②有:have/possess ③照顾:take care of /look after ④拜访:visit/pay a visit to 情绪类 ①疲惫的:tired/exhausted ②兴奋:excitement/thrill 【点睛】[高分句型1] My dad asked whether she was the one who put out the flyers. (运用了because引导的原因状语从句) 听力材料 第一节 1.M: I have no idea whether my workmates will come to the party or not. W: Don’t worry. We have enough food for all of them. 2.W: Hey George, you look tired. What have you been up to? M: I’ve just got back from the Philippines. The flight was long, but it was great; the beaches were beautiful and the hotel was really relaxing. W: Wow, amazing! 3.W: Are there any other requirements for this position? M: Yes, you have to master several languages. W: Well, I can speak Spanish and a little bit of French. And I am attending an English class now. 4.W: Excuse me, is there a bank nearby? M: Oh, yeah, it is just past the tennis court. W: The tennis court? M: Yes, it is near the back wall of the bookstore. 5. W: How is your brother doing? M: He’s great. He’s been training hard for a 42-kilometer race in June. W: That’s fantastic. What’s he doing to prepare? M: He runs about 10 kilometers every other day and he watches his diet carefully. 第二节 6---7.M: It is so quiet here. W: I know. Isn’t it beautiful? M: Are you serious? I do not want to hang around here. Let’s go. W: Why don’t we go to the top of the hill? M: Do I have to? Let’s go back home and watch a movie. W: Relax. Listen to the birds. Look for animals. Nature is fun to explore. M: I would prefer to go back home and watch a movie. 8---10. M: Excuse me. I’m looking for a video camera. I’ve never had one before, and I’m wondering if you could make some suggestions. W: Sure. It’ll help, though, to know what your specific needs are and how much you’d like to spend. M: Well, I plan to use it most when I go on vacation. I have a couple of trips coming up, and I’d like to record my experiences. I’ve never operated video equipment, though, so I’d like something that’s basic. W: In that case, I’d recommend the Sepler 83. I personally like this one the best because it’s very easy to operate. 11---13. W: Hi, Jane calling. I’m on the bus headed to the restaurant for the customer dinner, but I’m running late. My meeting was longer than I expected. M: Oh, right—the sales meeting. So do you know how to get to the restaurant? W: Well, I just know it’s near Cloverfield Park, but I’m not sure how to get to the restaurant from the bus stop. Could you meet me there so I can walk over with you? M: Sure. How soon? W: I don’t know, but right now we’re passing the City Museum. M: Oh, so it’ll be about ten minutes. I’ll see you soon. 14---16. W: Mr. Green, you have been on the road for over ten years. Have you ever had any problems? M: Yes, we’ve had some. The car has stopped working a few times. But there is always someone who can fix it. W: Have you ever stayed in a hotel?
