You’ve asked me why I came to work here. Well, there’s a funny story actually. You see, this job wasn’t actually the job that I’d applied for. I had been offered the post of a lecturer in a university in Kuala Lumpur. I was very excited, so I’d made all sorts of plans. I’d done all my boring medical checks. I had bought the guide books and of course I had given all my coats away, as I was going to be there for two years. What did one need winter coats for? My bags were practically packed. But ... well, their business failed and they cut back on their budget and there was no job. That was a month before I was due to leave. So there I was. I practically didn’t have a home to live in. So at that moment I was mad. I was looking in the newspapers to find another job. And it was a terrible time of year to be a job seeker, believe me, and then I couldn’t believe it. I mean, suddenly here was this job in Madrid. It was a total change of plan because actually it does get very cold in Madrid in the winter. So of course I bought new winter clothes and there I was. But I’m glad it worked out like that really because I love Madrid and I’ve been there for three years now, and I may stay for longer, you know. A Best royal (王室的) palaces in Europe you can visit There are some royal palaces in Europe that often open their doors to the public. The news changed the family’s life right away. As a writer for a magazine, Wildman decided to document her daughter’s long and difficult journey, hoping to show others what it really meant to live with the disease. In her articles, Wildman described the pain Orli went through during her treatment. Wildman believed she understood pain, but seeing her child suffer made her realize how deep and heavy pain could be. It was something she had never truly known before. However, the story was not only about illness and pain. More importantly, it was about Orli’s strong spirit and love for life. Despite the great challenges brought on by her condition, Orli chose to face them with a smile and tried to enjoy life in her unique way. “Hope is a driving force,” Wildman said. “It is hope that pushes us to seek out new treatments, to fight for more days, more months, maybe even years.” Throughout countless rounds of treatment and surgery (手术), Orli never let go of her love for life. She repeatedly reminded those around her that every single day was worth living to the fullest. In the hospital, Orli refused to let life become dull. She played music, danced in the hallways, and invited nurses to join in the fun. She even chose her favorite songs before surgery, turning scary moments into something warm and familiar. Orli never allowed herself to be seen only as a patient. Through her energy, joy, and hope, Orli touched the lives of everyone around her, showing the world that even in the face of the greatest challenges, one can still choose to smile and embrace (拥抱) life with open arms. 24. Why did Wildman decide to write about her daughter’s illness? A. To share a personal experience. B. To praise doctors’ endless efforts. C. To highlight medical knowledge. D. To show how to attend to sick kids. 25. Which of the following best describes Orli? A. Humorous. B. Determined. C. Easy-going. D. Sharp-eyed. 26. What does the underlined word “dull” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Lively. B. Boring. C. Restless. D. Peaceful. 27. What can we learn from Orli’s story? A. Family support solves all problems. B. Illness always brings people closer. C. Music is the best way to reduce pain. D. A positive spirit can give value to life. A 25. B 26. B 27. 根据第一段“As a writer for a magazine, Wildman decided to document her daughter’s long and difficult journey, hoping to show others what it really meant to live with the disease. (作为一名杂志撰稿人,威尔德曼决定记录下她女儿那段漫长而艰难的历程,希望能向其他人展示患有这种疾病的人的真实生活状态。)”可知,威尔德曼决定写关于她女儿患病的事情是为了分享一段个人经历。故选A。 根据第三段“More importantly, it was about Orli’s strong spirit and love for life. (更重要的是,这体现了奥利坚强的意志以及她对生活的热爱。)”可知,奥利的性格坚强。故选B。 【26题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“She played music, danced in the hallways, and invited nurses to join in the fun. She even chose her favorite songs before surgery, turning scary moments into something warm and familiar. Orli never allowed herself to be seen only as a patient. 根据最后一段“Through her energy, joy, and hope, Orli touched the lives of everyone around her, showing the world that even in the face of the greatest challenges, one can still choose to smile and embrace (拥抱) life with open arms. (通过她的活力、快乐和希望,奥利影响了她周围每一个人的生活,向世人展示了即使在面临最严峻的挑战时,人们依然可以选择微笑并张开双臂拥抱生活。)”可知,奥莉的故事告诉我们积极的心态能赋予生活以价值。故选D。 C “Practice makes perfect” is very popular. However, can you really understand it? It is believed that if a person practises for at least 10,000 hours, they will reach “perfection” — or become an expert in their field. It was made famous by Malcolm Gladwell in his 2008 best-selling book, Outliers: The Story of Success. He gave the examples of the music group The Beatles and Microsoft co-creator Bill Gates, who clearly put in over 10,000 hours of practice before they became successful. However, although Gladwell’s work was largely based on research done by Anders Ericsson, Ericsson said 10,000 hours was just an average figure. Some people needed fewer than 10,000 hours and others many more. More importantly, Ericsson said that just practising a lot was not enough; the type and quality of practice were also important. He went on to explain the importance of “deliberate practice”, which is when a person practises a part of a skill in depth rather than practising a skill as a whole. Deliberate practice is much more effective, though more tiring. Many other studies prove practice alone is far from enough. In fact, a more recent study from Princeton University stated that practice only accounted for (占) about 26% of reaching an expert level. Many other factors are needed to become experts. Natural talent is an important factor, which is obvious in sports. For example, many baseball players have amazing eyesight that allows them to see the ball much sooner than others do. Besides, IQ, personality and attitude are necessary. It is also important to note that becoming an expert is not a quick success. Success also depends on social factors, environmental factors, and even just being in the right place at the right time! All in all, practice may not make perfect, but deliberate practice has been shown to lead to improvement. 28. Why does the author ask a question in the first paragraph? A. To let people think over it. B. To stress his opinion. C. To make a comparison. D. To give the meaning. 29. What can we infer from paragraph 3? A. Different people may need different practice hours. B. Practising a skill as a whole is much better for improvement. C. Ericsson doesn’t support deliberate practice. D. Gladwell’s work has nothing to do with Ericsson’s research. 30. What makes many baseball players perform so well? A. Their personality. B. Their talent. C. Their attitude. D. Their practice. 31. Which sentence will the author probably agree with? A. Attitude is everything. B. Patience determines success. C. Talent is the most important. D. Practice makes a difference. A 29. A 30. B 31. 根据第一段中““Practice makes perfect” is very popular. However, can you really understand it? (“熟能生巧”是很流行的。然而,你真的能理解它吗?)”可知,作者通过提问引发读者思考,让读者反思“熟能生巧”的真正含义,从而引出下文的探讨。故选A项。 根据第三段中“However, although Gladwell’s work was largely based on research done by Anders Ericsson, Ericsson said 10,000 hours was just an average figure. Some people needed fewer than 10,000 hours and others many more. (然而,尽管Gladwell的研究主要基于Anders Ericsson的研究,但Ericsson表示,1万小时只是平均数字。有些人需要的时间少于1万个小时,有些人则需要更多。)”可推知,不同人可能需要不同的练习时间。故选A项。 根据第四段中“Natural talent is an important factor, which is obvious in sports. For example, many baseball players have amazing eyesight that allows them to see the ball much sooner than others do. (天赋是一个重要因素,这在体育运动中表现得尤为明显。例如,许多棒球运动员有惊人的视力,使他们能比其他人更快地看到球。)”可知,许多棒球运动员表现出色得益于他们的天赋。故选B项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“All in all, practice may not make perfect, but deliberate practice has been shown to lead to improvement. (总而言之,练习不一定能造就完美,但刻意练习已被证明能带来进步。)”可知,作者指出刻意练习的有效性。由此推知,他会赞同“练习能产生影响”的观点。故选D项。 D With digital learning gaining popularity, some students choose to learn from home using computers and the internet. They used websites and digital books instead of paper ones. But are they learning as well as they think? Studies show that reading on paper is easier to understand than reading on a screen. Anne Mangen, a literacy professor at the University of Stavanger in Norway, says reading on paper is calm and attracts our attention, unlike the reading on a screen. Experts say that while screens are good for quick news, complex texts are better on paper. They help us remember details better. A study by Lauren Singer Trakhman found that students understood the main ideas whether they read on paper or a screen, but they missed small details on screens. Reading on screens might make us read faster but not as deeply. Our brains might be getting used to quick information from digital media and not thinking carefully about what we read. Some research shows that our brains react differently to paper and screens. Reading on paper can make us feel more and understand the space around us better. So what can we do? We shouldn't stop using screens, but we should think about what we read on them. Singer Trakhman says she uses her Kindle for fun but turns to paper for serious reading. To remember what we read on screens, we can try writing down the main points by hand. It might help us remember better than typing. And sometimes, turning off our devices and reading a real book can be very nice. 32. What does Anne Mangen think of reading on paper? A. It is better for reading quick news. B. It brings peaceful reading experience. C. It provides a new adventure for readers. D. It helps to improve communication abilities. 33. Why might students miss details when reading on screens? A. Screens make the text harder to read. B. The text on screens is usually less detailed. C. Students tend to read quickly and not think deeply. D. Screens make it difficult to understand the main ideas. 34. What can be inferred from Lauren Singer Trakhman's reading habits? A. She hardly uses screens in daily reading. B. She likes using Kindle for all types of reading. C. She thinks Kindles are suitable for serious reading. D. She prefers to use paper for challenging literature. 35. Which is the best title for this passage? A. The Advantages Digital Learning Brings B. Reading on Paper vs. Reading on Screens C. How Reading on Paper Shapes Students D. The Importance of Online Learning at Home 【答案】32. B 33. C 34. D 35. 根据第二段“Anne Mangen, a literacy professor at the University of Stavanger in Norway, says reading on paper is calm and attracts our attention, unlike the reading on a screen. (挪威斯塔万格大学的文学教授安妮·曼根表示,与在屏幕上阅读不同,在纸上阅读很平静,而且能吸引我们的注意力。)”可知,纸质书更能让我们静下心来阅读。故选B。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“A study by Lauren Singer Trakhman found that students understood the main ideas whether they read on paper or a screen, but they missed small details on screens. Reading on screens might make us read faster but not as deeply. (劳伦·辛格·特拉克曼的一项研究发现,无论是在纸上阅读还是在屏幕上阅读,学生都能理解主要思想,但他们会错过屏幕上的一些小细节。)”可知,屏幕阅读速度快,但不利于深度思考。故选C。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Singer Trakhman says she uses her Kindle for fun but turns to paper for serious reading. (辛格·特拉克曼说,她用Kindle是为了娱乐,但在严肃的阅读中,她会转向纸质书。)”可知,她习惯用纸质书阅读严肃读物。阅读挑战性的文学读物属于严肃阅读,所以可以推断在读挑战性的文学时,她倾向于用纸质书。故选D。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“With digital learning gaining popularity, some students choose to learn from home using computers and the internet. They used websites and digital books instead of paper ones.( 随着数字化学习的普及,一些学生选择使用电脑和互联网在家学习。他们使用网站和电子书,而不是纸质书。)”及全文可知,文章主要比较纸质书和电子书的不同之处,所以B项“Reading on Paper vs. Reading on Screens(纸质阅读vs.屏幕阅读)”作本文标题最佳。故选B。 三、阅读七选五:每小题2.5分, 共12.5分。 It has been shown that watching English movie trailers(预告片) can improve your English vocabulary and thinking skills. ___36___ The first step is to find them. Go to YouTube and do a search for something like “official trailer”. Several film trailers will appear. ___37___ Animated films can be an especially good choice for English practice no matter how old you are. These films are usually humorous and relatable. To find animated films, try doing a search for something like “animated official trailer”. Make sure the video you choose offers closed captions(字幕), which you will use later. You can find the closed caption mark at the bottom of the video. It may be listed as “CC” or something else. Keep in mind that trailers more than five or seven years old may not offer closed captions on YouTube.___38___ Next, watch the video at a normal speed without closed captions. Try to understand what the story is about overall. Then watch it again to seek more details. ___39___ It will give you an idea of whether the dialogue is too fast or difficult for your skill level. ___40___ Find the “CC” setting at the bottom of the video and click the captions. This can help you in several ways. You can confirm whether you understand the dialogue in your first viewing, make clearer any dialogue you do not understand, and connect the sound of words with their spellings. You can also write down a few of the new words in a notebook or on your mobile phone. A. So choose newer videos. B. You can choose some that look interesting. C. They may sound a little strange at a slower speed. D. With this method, you are testing your English skills. E. Then watch the video again, this time with closed captions. F. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did. So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try. I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice. What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them. When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care. A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!” I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. You see, this job wasn't actually the job that I applied for. I had been offered the post of lecture in the university, and while a one poor, I was very excited. So i'd made all sorts of plans. I've done all my boring medical checks. I had bought the guide books, and of course, I had given all my coats away as I was going to be there for two years. What did one need? Winter coats for? My bags practically packed. But while their business failed and they cut back on their budgets and there was no job, that was a month before I was due to leave. So there I was. I practically didn't have a home to live in. So at that moment I was mad. I was looking in the newspapers to find another job. And IT was a terrible time of year to be a job seeker, believe me. And then I couldn't believe IT. I mean, suddenly here was this job in madrid. IT was a total change of plan because actually does get very cold in madrid in the winter. So of course, I bought new winter cloth and there I was. But i'm glad that worked out like that really, because I love madrid and i've been there for three years now, and I may stay for longer. B In 2019, Sarah Wildman’s daughter, Orli, was only 10 years old when doctors found that she had hepatoblastoma, a serious illness. C “Practice makes perfect” is very popular. D With digital learning gaining popularity, some students choose to learn from home using computers and the internet. The Importance of Online Learning at Home It has been shown that watching English movie trailers(预告片) can improve your English vocabulary and thinking skills. ___36___ The first step is to find them. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
